Cute girls transform and fight. Similar tone, themes, some leaning into mecha. The main difference is Nanoha relies a bit more on it's drama and Symphogear has more action and plot twists. And I guess that symphs sing when they fight but that's a superficial difference. I'd be shocked if somebody liked one and disliked the other.

I'm honestly kinda surprised no one has made this recommendation, considering a lot of the plot, or at least general ideas of the plot are extremely similar. Both shows feature a group of magical girls (or at least sth similar) working for a secret organization, both have a main character who rather wants to solve the conflict with talking and understanding the opposition than fight them but will still fight if she has to. And most importantly, the whole relationship of the antagonists for the first season of Symphogear is pretty much exactly the same as the one for Fate and her mother in the first season   read more

The MC characteristics of these two anime are similar. Both anime use relics as a source of magical girl power.

Where do I start...both shows have very similar plots: magical girls who work for a military-like organization with somewhat mecha character transformations. Nanoha's battles are more about firing huge magic beams whereas Symphogear is basically human mech battles with lots of singing. I also have to mention how both have a classic "Nana Mizuki character" (Tsubasa in Symphogear and Fate in Nanoha)

Magical girls that have high tech weapons and suits they use for combat against other magical girls that have conflicting ideologies.

If you like girls chosen by fate to become magical guardians. Symphogear might be for you! There's ton of good fights, cute outfits, and tons of magitech. The music is also a plus.
