Have u watched rascal doesn't dream of a bunny girl senpai?? It's one of the best romance anime I have seen .... You can try that one though it may not have female lead but all the female characters and their development is very good... If you watch it don't forget to watch the movie that is just perfect.... And it's second season is coming so it's the best time to watch it if you haven't

If you ask why, then the simplest answer would be it is not an anime it's a emotion.... I cried and enjoyed while watching it, I hadn't even cried this much while watching FMAB which is my fav anime ....
there are some people who says the ending might be not as good as u think but to me she deserves that much at least... 10/10 (if you haven't watched it already then watch it, you won't regret it)

Hi, thx for the request too! Talking about anime with female leads, I would recommend Chihayafuru, a shoujo/sports/romance anime, and Wave, Listen to Me, a seinen/comedy.
Chihaya is a great story overall, with gorgeous animation, engaging characters and also good focus on the 'sport' it talks about, which is karuta - rather a card game than a sport but whatever. Its main flaw is that the pace can be a bit slow sometimes, but since you love Fruits Basket this might be your piece of cake.
On the other hand, Wave is a kinda crazy mature comedy that shines thanks to the charisma of the MC, Minare Koda. She is like the most fucked up irresponsible 30yo girl imaginable and ends up being involved in a radio program cause she has that innate talent to speak about a lot of funny stuff that she just made up in her mind. Not as great as Chihaya but it's a faster ride and with solid story and an incredibly funny and charismatic female lead.
