That was the most bizarre sumo wrestling contest I've ever seen.

Episode is still quite surreal following the challenges Nagara has to face. Mizuho's connection to cats is still very evident and an unique part of the show. I also kinda respect her courage and facing her challenges head on in this show.

I feel like this is an accurate depiction of how cats use their superpower, if they have one.

But what's happened to the twin?

Now the cats are talking, what is this weirdo aspect lols?

This episode we get to explore the connection between Mizuho and her fascination of cats, while the trio of Nagara, Nozomi and Mizuho are wrapped up in Seiji and Sou'a This World of a brotherly feud that's resolved with bizarre sumo wrestling duels and ice caps.

And apparently Aki-sensei sought Sou to retrieve Nagara or Nozomi's powers to get them back to whence they were. The twin brothers' "Reverse" cheat power is quite deadly depending on the circumstance, but they're not twins, just more like fragments of each other in slight copy.

The Nyamazon cats are doing the copying??? Yamabiko calls these cats out for their own personal gain being witnesses to whatever the students were doing, just for the gratification of "protecting" Mizuho if the truth ever got out. To think that Rajdhani was THAT close to figuring out the reason why they went adrift, he's a smart one to inspect them of their game, but alas with the solo journey, the rest are left without that important evidence.

Nozomi getting shunned by Asakaze, and the cats' relationsuip with Mizuho, plus the fact that Seiji defeated his own copy and himself by almost using the white cat Sakura, this reminds me of Abraham's biblical sacrifice of Isaac on the stone. I still think that Aki-sensei may be the antagonist to this whole scene, and while nothing is set in stone yet, this has still aways to go.

Every episode gets me intriguing at the very least.

schrodingers cats episode ye they split the timeline in to 2 branches thats how they get copies of anything

so ye confirmed again that they are in a multiverse particularly the many worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics

Mizuho might be the culprit of splitting timelines aka adrift or making copies then

i still see the ending of this being Nagara creating a new world for all of them copies

when Rajdhani comes back with the gang im almost sure he will explain all the multiverse and quantum mechanics stuff happening on this last few episodes

this show got way too much exposition but is not too specific on what message it wants to show

the first 5-6 episodes are about society and how to adapt or deal with its rules

and now its about the whole multiverse (or simply reality) and how to find or make your place on it

but ye im sure its another coming of age story that anime loves to tell

A lot of things happening in this episode. Quite frankly, I was confused on my first watch but it became clearer on the second.

  • Mizuho's Nyamazon makes her another prime suspect for the cause of the drift as it's revealed that her cats can copy anything and everything.

  • Asakaze has a crush on Nozomi and because she's powerless, he wants to guarantee her safety by joining his clique. Asakaze probably tried to recruit Nozomi multiple times, but he probably switched gears and now makes more aggressive (assholish) approaches.

  • Nozomi renounces her pixie girl status as she's the one with the existential crisis now as she tries to find her own self worth with her being powerless.

  • Philosophical battle in the backdrop with the white cat at stake. I would gladly read people's interpretation about this. Teacher tries to help by rigging the fight so that she can use the "Reverse" power to reverse the timeline to their own world. Didn't work for it was a hollow victory and the guy just committed sewerside. Teacher's plans is foiled, and she now seems more of an asshole because of this.

Nice episode, not as good as 6, 7, 8 but lots of world building and characterization. Hopefully they can pull something big with the last 3 episodes.

This show continues to keep getting more complex. This episode focuses on 2 copies of the same person fighting each other over and over again due to their "Reverse" ability. The cats are now suspects for the causing the adrift. I'm still trying to figure out Aki-sensei's underlying motivation. She's so menacing and manipulative.

Somehow gigguk's evangelion video helped me dealing with these kinds of shows. Don't get me wrong, I fucking love Sonny Boy, but I feel like my head can't keep up with this show. So I just found it best to just experience it without thinking a whole lot. "You don't have to understand it"..darou? It is still mind boggling though, what they present to us every week, hope the comlpexity doesn't damage the ending.

Love the "on the snout" allegory of Amazon's working conditions. Nyamazon indeed!

On a more serious note, the cats were surprisingly well rounded characters. For having voices for the first time, a lot of depth came across and I found myself genuinely caring about what happened to the white one. Somehow the cats are more like real humans than the humans themselves - they can get hurt, they have relatable motivations, and original thoughts. They aren't going through character development, a redemption arc or anything so storytelling archetypical like that - they simply are themselves, and it's brilliant.

On the flip side, I found the story of the twins a bit... Hollow. There seems to be two orthogonal ideas at play - one is that they started as the same person, and their long lasting conflict made them diverge until they became irreconcilable, and the other is that their fight became so defining of them (or at least of the twin that won) that once done, there was nothing left of them.

The first idea is kinda interesting. It's the age old nature vs nurture debate - how much of ourselves is a product of how we lives our lives, and how much is intrinsic and unchanging? At which point two versions of the same person become separate people? I don't think this episode added much to the debate, but it's a good conversation starter.

The second idea is less interesting. It's been seemingly approached from all angles by countless stories about revenge, war, conquest and the battle of good and evil. If one fights for too long, he becomes fight itself, and whatever original motivation is lost in the process. But perhaps there's an interesting connection to the first idea - when does that transition occur? When does fighting become one's raison d'être, their own identity?

Whatever the answers we may come up with, the episode's conclusion is rather nihilistic. In the end, all that was left was a gaping hole - absence itself. So what was the point of any of it?

In contrast to that dreadful outcome, Nagara has now started to become a beacon for Nozomi, showing that people can find purpose - in each other. Perhaps the moral here is that one person alone cannot live a fulfilling life - it will always be empty. But we can find meaning and encouragement in each other.

So the copies were made by Mizuho's power and those went adrift, still doesn't account for the huge amount of students and some from different times. Well, doesn't matter, not expecting them to go into detail about that either.

Another episode with a specific message; independence and dependence.
Only thing that bothered me was the sacrifice thing with the cat, no idea what meant in relation to the twins.

Also, OPM in Sonny boy style:

all of the episodes have been pretty trippy and odd but this is definitely the most confusing one for me, like .#?!$+

all i got was that the cats.. can talk. what the fuck. but we have tsuda kenjiro talking wolf like dog so whatever. and apparently the cats are the one that caused this drift..? kinda? maybe?

asakaze's still an ass, an even bigger one this episode especially to nozomi. that teddy bear thats given at birth was kinda..? i wanna know more abt that, he said he threw it away but its there. did he want it again? or? i hate how im so interested in his character

tora staying beside nozomi all day was really cute tho what the hell ;____;

How did I not realise the three cats belonged to Mizuho! I assumed they were like Yamabiko—humans turned into animals.

Damn, Aki-sensei is awful!

I was so worried for Sakura! I really didn't want her to die.

We learnt a bit more about Nyamazon. That was very interesting. Mizuho's power is Copying, and she may have been responsible for the Drifting. But, since Nozomi is considered dead in the real world, I am guessing she's missing there, and the Nozomi here is the real one, and not a copy.

I know that in fiction, a guy and a girl can never have scenes together without there being something romantic, but I still never guessed Asakaze liked Nozomi that way. There was really nothing to give that away!

Out of the "twins", I felt only the younger one was attractive. Guess that extra hair makes a huge difference. lol

I feel bad Sou had to die.

Team Aki-sensei seems to be travelling. I thought they were returning home, but they're still wandering around. Now, I am curious about Hoshi's group and Rajdhani.

Aki-sensei seems like the antagonist, so far.

If the cats already joined the talking something's big must be happening. So thats it, all the ruckus caused by the two copies, and the whole copying things that did the tricks of the Nyamazon. Hope its answered some people's about how the hell Mizuho got everything she wanted. Copy cat copied everything, even the alive one can be. Which means? Well, one order of Mizuho to copy everyone back to home, might do the tricks. But, since Tsuda the dog, keeping a silent and there's more episode ahead, i don't think it can be end that simply....

On another note left: Nagara and Nozomi bits of romance kinda off-guards me. Well, dude, you finally can talk nice to that girl. Idk with that Asakaze dude that knewing all of his evil figure kinda late, cause she literally killed all the copies of that reverse dude. Rip for them tho, and, yeah, hope they be good while goin to another trip. Or else....

3 episodes remaining seems not enough. But, lets see....

I am not even surprised anymore that the cats talks as well lmao, holy shit. So Nyamazon is one of the reasons that they drifted, not the sole reason, but one of. It's pretty much confirmed now that Asakaze does have a crush on Nozomi, what an ass though. He should just stick with Aki-sensei's big honkers.

Best boy Raj was really this close to uncovering the truth with the power of lie detectors lmao. The whole Sou vs Seiji was pretty interesting though, how'd that happen though, why is there 2 of them at the same place, was it really just an accident by the cats? Nice way to die though, death by pew pew. Looking forward to the next episode.

If the dogs are able to speak then cats can too. No wonder lol, and they're a shady bunch of cats. This episode brought up a lot of questions again. Love how much screentime Mizuho gets. Favorite character forever, well seems like her ability was a part of the drift and the cat's know the reason. Pretty interesting and amazing how Radjhani almost discovered the truth. He's a level ahead of everyone else.

IN BOLD EPISODE 8 DISCUSSION THOUGHTS. See below for episode 9

Nagara and Nozomi background stories. It can either be done in one or two episodes. What we know so far is that Nagara looks like he was going through something at home before they all drifted. He met with a counselor at school that thought he was taking his anger out on a bird that was found dead in the schoolyard. His home is a mess and his mother was unwilling to come out her room. I'm going to assume his father died. As for Nozomi, we know she's an exchange student. Some event in her life taught her to go head first into scary situations. I'm going to assume she lived in a home of domestic violence.

Asakaze is going to make a move a Nozomi sooner or later, it's the only reason he's still around. He's always wanted her attention and has been jealous of Nagara's relationship with her this entire series. He's likely the most imminent threat to Nozomi, who I believe is the Kodama of This World.

Mizuho and her cats are a wildcard here.

Nagara will eventually have to save Nozomi from herself.

Above is where i thought the series was headed after episode eight.

Definitely didn't think we would need the background on Mizuho and her cats, but them being the reason they're adrift was a critical question the series eventually had to answer. For the series to maintain continuity, they'll now have to explain how "God" (the principal?) knew the cats were going to somehow send them adrift. Therefore, Hoshi will return and somehow connect the dots between the two.

Not much time left. We NEED to know Nozomi's and Nagara's backstory.

Yet another confusing episode but we can make sense of it somehow. I'm still not sure what happened with the twins and what was the motive behind Aki sensei in the case.

Also, I don't quite follow the powers of those cats. Exactly what was copied? Our Cast? Or copies of our cast in the real world? Or the worlds itself? And how could've they made it back to their world as the dog said? It'll be helpful if someone can fill me in it.

RAJDHANI MY DUDE. It is only now I realize what a charming character you were! Sad to see you go. Hope you come back soon to tell us about this complex plot.

Again, one has to wonder how nobody is questioning the bloodthirsty teacher who is handing out rayguns and goading people into murder-suicide. Well, it's a dude who was split in half, got into an argument with his other half over how much hair there was in a pile, and swore a blood feud over it. And because he (both of him) has the power of time reversal, that's somehow trapping everybody who enters their world because one always reverses, causing the other to re-reverse which… traps people. Okay, let's roll with that. Anyway, he kills himself, then realizes that he killed himself, so he kills himself. There's a sentence for you to parse. I'm not even sure if that's supposed to be the A plot or the B plot of the episode. I can say for certain that the C plot is the manic pixie girl getting yelled at by the other angsty boy, so she sulks, and then the primary angsty boy says "hey, don't be so sad," and she feels better again.

And I haven't even mentioned the cats. First off, they're fully sentient, and have apparently always been. Second, they can talk in the usual Disney animal telepathic way. The dog has apparently been aware of all of this and just keeping it a secret. Third, they're not ordering things from Amazon Nyamazon, they're just wandering away, using their power to duplicate matter to create things, and then bringing it back. Fourth, the Indian dude knew about literally all of this. He apparently hooked them all up to lie detectors off screen and interrogated them on their powers and their intelligence. How does all this fit into the episode? One of the crazy twins mentioned before grabbed the dupli-cat as a sacrifice to the Norse gods thereby tying together both things… sort of. Not really.

Why do I feel like this show is slowly losing the little direction it once had?

Anyways, another episode I find extremely boring. Codependency topic was approached in the most trippy way possible and now it results that Mizuho might actually be the main reason as for why the class started drifting in the first place. So... Nagara creates the new world/timeline and Mizuho the alternative copy of themselves to reside in said new world/timeline?

Did the white cat, Sakura, make copies of the original world because she wanted to ensure that Mizuho always needed her? She was insistent that Mizuho could not live without them, but to me it seems like Sakura cannot live without Mizuho.

Props to Yamabiko for calling Sakura out on her bullshit AND for stepping in and protecting Mizuho and Sakura. I love that dog!

This episode consists of two incidents concerning copy; one is the copy ability of Mizuho's cat and the other is the conflict between Sou and Seiji. Incidentally, souseiji means twins (but different kanji characters were applied to them).

When Sou and Seiji were copied in the same community, they should have been perplexed by the situation and insisted their genuineness. Since the battle between the twins are fierce, the other community members would have drifted farther and farther away from them and only the twins are left alone. Finally, one of them won the battle and only the void was left in his mind. The hole in his body would have been his mental view and not a physical one.

The subtitle might be derived from "This sandwich has no mayonnaise" by Salinger and such a thing means a tasteless matter or a depressing task. In the short novel, a dance party would be held but the protagonist had to reduce male participants to match the head counts to the number of female participants. It's a nasty task and kind of similar situation to "Sou and Seiji" (or the students copied to the parallel worlds).

So even cats have super powers in this world?? Or they somehow are connected to the real world that they are able to copy all those products?

This is getting even more confusing each episode. They also bring new characters, what was the point of those twin brothers and then revealing the other don't exist....

The cats might be the reason for why they went adrift. And if the Nyamazon thing is the cat's power then what is Mizuho's power?

The two twins, or rather two copies, Sou and Seiji have been fighting each other for a long time as their 'Reverse' ability makes them forget their previous fight.

Also, Rajdhani was real close to figuring out the reason for them going adrift. I didn't really understand the message behind this episode...
