i don't fully understand - from your description, it seems like it does what's MAL's own copying (using that white-on-blue "Quote Reply" control) is supposed to do?
Do you mean that their own functionality does not copy everything properly?
Do you have some kind of "unpacked" version - to better understand what's being done there?

also, you use the "Inspect BBCode" button - this is probably the right thing to do lol :D
I just realized it recently myself that it's good option to get 100% correct BBCode
But i didn't even know about it, if I don't mistake, when creating the extension, so I just parse the html and convert it back to bbcode :D
I notice you have a delay - 2 full seconds, no less - is it necessary, to get that bbcode? this doesn't seem to me like it takes full 2 seconds to load?

also, can you probably do that ajax post request to /forum/{threadID}/quickedit/{msgID} (that the Inspect button triggers) yourself - then you won't need to use setTimeout at all?
I might consider to do that myself, actually, though now that the extension works well w/o any requests i am not sure :D

i suspect this has something to do with the asterisk in brackets as list marker and should be an easy fix, so hopefully I will fix it soon
