Hokuto no Ken

Great action scenes in every episode featuring: -Rapid punches and kicks. -Gory violence. -Theme songs that get you really hyped up. -Osamu Dezaki-style pastel/pencil freeze frames. Plot-wise: -Noble protagonists who care for the helpless and those weaker than him -Sadistic antagonists who used to be comrades/friends with the protagonist. -Both go in depth with the side-characters and make them likeable. 

Both have the same manly/badass hotblooded shounen vibe to them, and both are based off manga from the late 70s-80s. Hokuto no Ken has a more diverse cast of characters, because this is only 1/8th of the JoJo's Bizarre adventure series which is still ongoing. Well it's 1/4th of the series if we continue on to battle tendancy and make this a two cour anime adaptation... which would probably make those of us who've been into the series for over a decade such as myself jizz. 

-Both series have a good amount of fighting -Both series have a male main protagonist (except for part 6) -Both series have been around since the 1980's -Both series tend to be very over-the-top (HnK in it's depiction of violence, JJBA in a lot of the concepts presents, such as the ripple/stands) 

Both anime have muscular, justice giving protagonists, blonde, charismatic villains, and high quality martial arts action. Their settings are different and were produced in two completely different eras, but they do have similar roots. Hokuto no Ken and Jojo are both manga series from the 80's and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure was influenced by Hokuto no Ken. Any self- respecting martial arts fan has to watch both because they are both amazingly fun to watch. 

Both are MANIME with buff men and lots of punching. Be warned, you WILL grow a beard after watching them.  

If you come from Fist of the North Star and are looking to get into JoJo, you will very likely feel right at home and should load it up to give it a try. If you enjoyed JoJo's more recent anime adaptations for the first 3 parts (Phantom Blood, Battle Tendency, Stardust Crusaders) you will almost without a doubt enjoy Fist of the North Star. Both the "Fist of the North Star" and the "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" series are perfect examples of what one would define as a "manime." They are both originally old school 1980's shounens that go hand in hand. They each feature huge muscles, heavily overblown dialogue with deep manly voices, explosive sound effects, and testosterone pumping fight scenes that you can't take your eyes off of. The combat in the fighting scenes of Fist of the North Star is closer to that of JoJo's earlier parts like Phantom Blood, and both usually have some level of narration during the fight scenes, whether it be a bystander or the narrator himself. The overall aesthetic of Fist of the North Star is more similar to that of Stardust Crusaders. More specifically, If you liked the overall look with the colors and character designs in Fist of the North Star, watching Stardust Crusaders should feel especially familiar upon checking it out. If you like one, you HAVE to check out the other. If you don't, you are doing yourself a disservice by missing out on some high quality, dope-ass manime.  read more 

Hokuto no Ken was one of the main inspirations that made Hirohiko Araki write JoJo, that's why both series share a lot of similarities.Both series feature characters with very masculine builds and designs, with Jonathon and Dio having designs heavily inspired by Kenshiro and Shin respectively. Both series are also infamous for having numerous gory scenes on a level not seen in modern Shonen, and are less heavy on providing Shonen tropes than most other series 

-Both series are manly -Araki took inspiration from Hokuto no Ken -Both series are good 

Both action shows feature burly, manly men fighing against equally buff villains. Both also are quite cheesy (in a good way) and have a penchant for overdramatizing, though Jojo is fairly stylish as well. While I liked Jojo more than Hokuto no Ken I think fans of one will definitely like the other. 

Both have the same style of characters, fighting, and overdramatic dialogs. They also portray friends & enemies in a similar way. 

Jonathan is clearly based on Kenshiro. Hamon works on vampires like Hokuto Shin Ken works on regular people, they both got marks on their bodies that's directly connected to their destiny, they're both famous for their rapid-fire punches. Jonathan, Joseph, and Jotaro's uncanny resemblance to the manliest man of anime. Essentially, it's become very clear to me that everything about Dio was based off Shin, at least during Phantom Blood and with Araki's own twist on it. 

Really similar art style, Similar powers. Oh and i forgot! totally badass characters :P 

If you love JoJo, then you're gonna love this. Both animes having buff dudes, MCs with similar designs and sense of justice, and mostly, a metric ton of punches.

Both feature similar ideologies and long journeys to find a person who wronged the protagonist but without a clear motive for revenge. Both fight countless enemies with little mercy and grow stronger slowly over said fights, much unlike shows where characters jump in strength. Both feature strong quiet main characters and likable antagonists who started as the protagonists best friend. 

Both shows are very violent, include very "GAR" manly-men characters, have a love side-story in them, and are full of action.  

Lonely warrior with a warrior spirit fights for freedom and justice to a point.  

Take Kenshirou from Fist of the North Star, without his overpowered martial arts, but instead give him a giant overpowering sword able to cut down dozens of people with a single stroke. Put him in a middle-age semi-fantasy world, and let him act as a mercenary under a strong and charismatic general with the strategic ability of Lelouch from Code Geass and essentially you have Berserk in a nutshell. Similarities: - both are very mature anime - they share a strong leading character fighting against powerful enemies - they both have romance and epic fights - they both have a revenge theme (which is however more pronounced in Fist of the North Star) Dissimilarities among the shows: - Berserk is military centered and has a cast of several recurring characters - Fist of the North is mainly focused on Ken alone and has more shounen elements to it - Fist of the north has many more episodes to enjoy read more

Both series are expressive in 80's shonen tropes being MANLINESS!! While Fist Of The North Star is more story based, Sakigake Otokojuku follows in its footsteps with masculine ideologies, manly tears, & the friendship of men. It should be noted that many characters of Otokojuku are direct inspirations from Hokuto characters such as the lead Momotaro being modeled after Kenshiro. These animes are meant for manly enthusiasts who wish to see larger than life characters engage in deadly combat while retaining a brotherhood among their friends & foes. -Both protagonists Kenshiro and Tsurugi Momotaro look almost the same -Manliness -Similar art and character design in both anime adaptations -Both have redhead short goofs who add the comedy into the mood 

Comically muscular men fight each other with “2000-year-old” martial arts with a strong emphasis on honour, camaraderie, and masculine bonds. The fights are made to be as dramatic and manly as possible, with lots of stare-downs and bulging muscles. Otokojuku is more comedic and has self-aware gags regarding the excessive manliness, while Hokuto no Ken takes a more serious approach. 

GAR anime made in the 80s mainly focusing on exaggerated manliness. They give off a similar vibe and are definitely fun and action-packed. One gives a post-apocalyptic type of manliness, the other a delinquent school type of manliness. Seriously, expect a few more chest hairs to grow on you just from watching either of these. 

Both series were created in the 80's and share the epicness of the 80's: over the top action, violent scenes, epic fights, the power of love and friendship, overpowered characters and manly tears (yes, Saint Seiya IS manly in its way).  

Battle shounen from the '80s with muscular warriors doing battle using martial arts tied to stars and/or constellations. There is a big focus on fate, destiny, and inheriting them from a previous generation. The fights follow a similar pattern involving punch-barrages, a life-aura effect, and lines like “now I’ll show you my ultimate technique”. 

Saint Seiya is not very similar to Hokuto, but the last arc of Hokuto no Ken when the Goshasei protect Yuria, we can see that they are very similar, both history, plot, powers and characters (Juuza = Shaka, etc.),Etc. 

Manly tears, bulked up enemies and friends,, loyalty to one's comrades in arms. Both shows are gory and at times silly, but have genuine emotional moments spread across. 

Both anime are very violent shonen adventure stories, They both have over the top action, similar characters, and sre just really fun. 

Both are bloody action series with many touching moments. Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin is often considered the "Dog version of Hokuto no Ken" and that's not entirely far from the truth. Both series are about heroes who protect people from the evil that threatens them.  

Jojo bizarre aventure's author has been inspired by Hokuto no Ken so their anime adaptation have some common point, and especially with part 3 : Stardust Crusaders. Both anime are really MANLY. Kenshirou and Jojo's group will travel between cities in order to save the world and especially a person close to them. Also both shows take place in a "desert" . 

Battle aura? Blowing up heads? Aw Hell yeah, time to roll with the punches and watch one of these classics of Shonen smackdown. Throwing blows with colorful characters and forceful vengence. Outrageous outfits and fantastic over the top action. Seriously, even at it's age Fist of the Northstar might just be a title you can watch while anxiously awaiting next week's episode of Stardust. Consequently, if you saw Fist of the Northstar and said to yourself "man they just don't make beafy ripped dudes fighting eachother anymore, then look no further than Jojo. 

Both anime are TV series with an extremely strong main character who wanders wasteland in the world that once felt into ruin. They meet other characters along the way, and those characters are similar in both series in terms of tropes they represent. Naturally, most of such encounters in general enrich the personalities of those series' main characters. 

Both are post apocalpytic series that features main characters who wields powerful fighting strength. The major villains also appears to be the people the main character's knew before the apocalypse. Though Fist of the North Star focuses more on the fighting then it gradually focuses on the characters, whereas Casshern had an entirely different storytelling than Fist of the North Star and even it had well animated fighting scenes, it's not the main focus of the story  

Congratulations adventurer, you've reached Mount Manly. Enjoy your masculine stay. An idea of what we have here: over the top violence, names and references of western inspiration, resident stars with big biceps and even bigger super powers, flashy hairdos, despicable villains and all the odd folks you want in a hot exotic landscape (we also have fresh beer). The whole package - art styles, characters, storylines, vibes - is akin to the point it looks like it's from the same creator. Blood, drama and unintentional laughs aplenty. 

Both series are pretty much frowning men beating each other up for their entire length, and both are unintentionally hilarious when watched with people who like to make fun of things that shouldn't take themselves so seriously. They're also both epic tales of manliness. That should count for something. 

One of the most influential shonen of all time, and perhaps one of Toriyama's inspirations for the type of drama found in the Cell saga? Both have exciting martial arts battles. Both had bad initial dubs. 

Both are from Toei Animation. Hokuto No ken influenced Dragonball Z majorly, in the supernatural and martial arts content Both serie´s were higly populair, and still are No rushed story´s , leftovers or crappy endings like Most of everyday anime Both serie´s , THEY NEED MORE PRAISE!!! 

Vintage Toei titles with more than one hundred episodes, in both you will find: - Brutal bloody fights - Legendary invincible leads - Antagonistic schools/organizations - Muscles, sweat, drama and manly tears. 

Manly martial artists fighting to right wrongs in mostly episodic format of in classic 80's style of action anime. 

In short, Toriko & Fist of The North Star contain very manly heroes with multiple battles against heartless villains. Toriko hass more variety due to multiple super powers with its food and animal based theme. Fist of The North Star is the more tragic of the two diving into an apocalyptic hell where a man battles against his kin. Toriko contains several references to Fist of The North Star which are: 1. The 4 Heavenly Kings are adopted "siblings" while Hokuto no Ken also has 4 brothers. 2. The characters Toriko, Zebra & Coco are inspired by Kenshiro, Raoh & Toki. 3. Both series were stricken by war and famine. 4. The concept of "Knocking" is similar to Hokuto Shinken as it stops a living being from moving. 5. The characters Acacia & Froze play a messiah role much like Kenshiro and Yuria. 6. Includes a sorrowful fight between brothers (Midora Vs Ichiryu and Raoh Vs Toki). read more 

The protagonists are very different. Kenshiro is more of a martial, "repent or die" type hero, whereas Vash is more of a mediating/pacifying, Hippocratic oath type of hero. Kenshiro is pretty stoic (in the anime) whereas Vash is very openly emotional and passionate. Both touch on spirituality and morality, although they approach the topic differently. Both are set in post-apocalyptic, barren desert settings, but the abandoned cities of Hokuto no Ken are starkingly different from the bustling Western-cowboy-ish villages of Trigun. Both are unbeatable warriors who are feared by their enemies, but the mystical Fist of the North Star style is the polar opposite of Vash the Stampede's cowboy-cyborg style. Both protagonists inadvertently cause a lot of trouble to the people around them by getting them involved in their battles, and both struggle with guilt over it. However, Kenshiro is seen as a hero by the people for his efforts, whereas Vash is seen as a villain. An in-depth look would reveal many differences, but at their cores, these two shows are both based on the same concept. Both tell a story of a troubled man deeply committed to his morals who works tirelessly to make his deserted world a better place while confronting his haunted past. Side-by-side, the opposing methods these heroes use in accomplishing their similar goals provide interesting contrast. read more
