Though speaking in terms of early to mid 70's i still think nothing beats Gatchaman. That was one of my favorites for sure and I think it was far ahead of its time. I like to compare it to what i am watching now with mazinger because they aired roughly during the same time. With Gatchaman, you can tell there is far more depth to its characters, the world has larger set pieces and locations that exist, better action, improved backstories and even a more overarching narative of sorts including the amazing epic finales of all three series. Not to mention the awesome villian that in my opinion even beats all the villians showns in mazinger so far. In any case I am going to be watching most of the 70's stuff but I am kind of doing it in order. So as of now im in the mid 70's I can't wait till i get to the Tadao Nagahoma romance series because I heard those are really good. One other series I am coming up to soon though that takes place in the same verse as mazinger is Grendiser. Have you seen this show? How does this one stack up to Mazinger and Great mazinger?
Btw, have you seen any other series in the Brave saga?
their designs are so similar..

I think I've never seen Grave of the Fireflies yet or maybe just parts of it at a friends at some point... because everything I've heard over the years makes it seem like an unforgettable movie. Sure sounds depressing as hell though, so I'll really have to be in the mood for it if I get around to it someday.
Yeah it was a little weird when they finally settled on this composer and stopped changing it up. All around he's seems pretty consistent at least, but peaked early. More rotating composers could have been interesting. The first two parts have totally different vibes because of it. Somehow that wack dubstep electro stuff in part 2 worked and was awesome. lol
Yep, I liked their Enslaved for the story/world, but it literally had like 3 combos from what I remember. I was just curious... since I refuse to touch DmC as well. In all the videos I've seen, you can apparently take damage and the combo meter does NOT drop down... which is like the polar opposite of what DMC is all about. You have to play flawlessly and you the player level up the more you play. I'm up to mission 13/20 in DMC5 and they truly made this for the fans, it's incredible with some throwbacks and I'm actually really getting into the story/characters haha. I am missing the more RE/Souls-esque castles of 1, 3, and 4 a bit, this one is a little more linear with the urban environments like in DMC2 or the hell-like gory areas. But yeah the combat and enemy/boss variety in this one is godly. I think I accidentally spoiled myself on the final boss but it just made me smile and will blow my pants off when I get to it myself.
I actually think RE2R's combat is more comparable to the classic games and REmake. The zombies are super bullet sponges and can be very dangerous in those tight corridors. Although they took the over the shoulder perspective from later games, the combat is honestly quite different and dialed back from RE4+. They made zombies dangerous again. They can do super crazy lunges and "bite" you like in the classics, though you can use knives or grenades again as defense items like in REmake. The Lickers were incredible, Mr X integrated amazingly well, the G fights and designs were incredible, Leon's tone and Ada both handled flawlessly, all the little changes were nice while it still felt supremely faithful. Capcom now have two of the best remakes in the business heh.
Exactly haha... oh I know who's buying them, Ollie Barder. Have you ever stumbled upon this guy? lol, at first I was "impressed" with him having obscure nerdy classic mecha articles on Forbes and stuff, but I guess Forbes is kind of open to public submission or something. Either way this guy writes a lot and tweets a bunch of cool stuff, he seems like a middle aged one of us haha.

He's even had some cool articles on Tomino and Takahashi, this dude is hardcore.

DMC5 awaits its time. Did you ever play DmC? lol, I never touched it.
I still have no idea what to say about YYH composer... think he did Flame of Recca and maybe Fushigi Yuugi too. Some good stuff in there... some WTF, lol. It's definitely a style like nobody else, that's for sure.
Great song, for some reason this talk makes me think of a friend who finished up part 3 recently and was telling me how he was tearing up so much during the finale. I don't know if it's just me, but JoJo usually just cracks me the hell up even when characters die, lmao. It's just so over the top and ridiculous I think it's just fun and hilarious stuff. I can't fathom how JoJo 3 is one of the most emotional shows out there for someone.
I didn't even know the Votoms BD set was coming until recently myself, got that one ordered. Was also shocked just today to see this and look at the back of the box, 20 OVA episodes so I guess this is like literally almost everything. I wonder if a collection 2 would include Mellowlink.
I scored big on Dunbine ($25) and Patlabor Ultimate ($65) recently. Got Xabungle and I'll get Ideon next. Last year I was thinking I'm still more of a downloader and prefer watching anime on my PC, lol. But I've got some extra sending money lately so what the hell. I figure all these Gundam releases can be low priority since they'll probably be around for awhile. But stuff like Baldios, Ideon, Xabungle, etc could go OOP in a blink probably.
So dunno if you still game much thesedays, but when Capcom lets Capcom make games again they just drop 10's. I know you weren't that interested in RE2R, but I'll just say if a long time series veteran told me it's their new favorite, I wouldn't argue. I beat it 9 times for the platinum and other in game unlocks like the rocket launcher, minigun, etc haha. And now I'm about halfway into DMC5 and can't believe it, could be the best one. Sekiro's probably gonna blow my mind next but my top 3 this year is probably cemented already. Capcom dropping new classics in 2019 like nothing. DMC5's still Itsuno.

I still can't take my friends who worship Bayonetta seriously. lol, at least some of them are seeing the light with DMC5.
I could maybe see Pillarman types in like HnK or something haha. But yeah even from the beginning the series had some interesting ideas. Never realized the part 4 and YYH connection, though now I think I remember you mentioning that before, lmao damn. I'm excited to rewatch YYH eventually.
Can't believe Discotek released Baldios, crazy hidden gem. It's living up to my expectations for sure and seems damn good.
