Recommendations

They are both set in space and both deal with crime and adventure. Also the animation style is similar.

Similar character setting, older brother, younger boy, a girl or 2 at the side. They both inherit some universe beating machines and go far and wide throughout the universe for a girl.

Outrageous space opera. The male lead is a cocky and self assured type.
report Recommended by RodG
The two shows are 90's action-adventure comedies where a small group travel around, eventually having a cabal of ultra-elite assassins trying to kill them.

Everyone is forgetting the similarities between Neon Genesis Evangelion and Outlaw Star. Both animes was release upon about the same century and era, both have meccas, both the storyline and plot pretty much takes place in space. What more can you ask for? These 2 animes reminded me of each other when I saw anime for the first time when I was little.

Outlaw star revolves around protagonist Gene Starwind and his crew of an inherited ship dubbed the Outlaw Star, as they search for a legendary treasure called the "Galactic Leyline". The story has space crime syndicate that will do anything to get the treasure and Gene being a bounty hunter / delivery boy / bodyguard and what not with attitude will not take 2nd place. It has a lot of great action and character development that is again one of those anime that slipped under the radar for some people that once discovered will appreciate the gem this series is. Highly recommended.

wether space pirates on a payroll, or just doing a legitimate space police job, Both having the ambition to be the best in their profession, u don't see anime like this anymore for a long time sadly, pure classics
report Recommended by Shura-shurato
You will have almost the same feeling from both these animes. IF you enjoyed one, Im sure you will enjoy the other one as well. How ever OS has almost no ecchi scenes and low humor, however I guess the Effect is almost the same.

Very entertaining spaceship adventures with engaging characters.
report Recommended by drf
Both about space pirates chasing the main characters in search of a precious item which is almost related in the amount of value.

Interstellar action. lol, Spaceships, action, and comedy.

These anime are very similar, especially in their world aspects. Both feature a universe where there are multiple settled planets, each with their own unique customs and technology. Both feature very diverse and unique props, vehicles, and cultural designs. You will see props being used in these anime that are very unique. You could almost think that they are different stories about different people in the same world, though they have a slightly different feel. Iria is about a girl searching for answers about her brother who has disappeared, and her interactions with a strange creature that seems to have some political aspects surrounding it  read more

two gems for the lovers of stylish action about pirates and outlaws who just keeps getting mixed up in someone else's veeery dirty business.
report Recommended by sillyfang
Both are noir themed action stories that focus on hunting down criminals as well as lots of sci fi in it as well too.
report Recommended by Disapeared_Ghost
Both of these have a really similar sort of atmosphere, I can't really put my finger on it, but I'm pretty sure it has to do with the art, the futuristic Western setting, and the comedy thrown in to each episode.

If you like action and comedy, then you'll like this show. Outlaw Star is sci-fi, while Kenshin is more of a historical samurai deal, but you'll definitely notice a similar feel between the two.

I'm kinda surprised no one recommended this. Outlaw Star is about pirates and a treasure hunt just like Mars Daybreak. To compare the two: Outlaw Star does not technically have "Mechs" but the star ships are sorta mechs themselves. I would say that if Mars Daybreak had the more complex story line like Outlaw Star does they would be mirrors of each other just in different universes. Most of Mars Daybreak seemed to developed the love relationship over the quality of the story line. Outlaw Star develops the story line with a quieter approach to the love interests. Overall I would say Mars Daybreak is  read more

Basically people just going around trying to get cash.

Because I think so ;) Fun space anime, carefree badass main characters. Other fun characters, but more steady plot in it.
report Recommended by Vuyo
I think these shows have somewhat similar art styles & story structures. Obviously there is a huge difference in setting, as Outlaw star is a space anime and Samurai Deeper Kyou is a samurai anime, but they have similar stories and pacing. Both MC's are excessively badass, and have a love interest in their crew, but the romance subplots very much take a backseat to the action. There is a LOT of adventure in both shows, the locale is changing every few episodes, if not every ep. Both main characters are seeking a legendary place/object that serves as the main objective in the shows. The  read more

Space adventures, wild shootouts, and enemies that make u think: WTH is that thing??? mixed with comedy moments, which differ because both are like 16/17 years apart from each other but still enjoyable!

South Asian themed Space Opera both scarred protagonist pilot a red Spaceship, and are strong in fighting

Both are late-90's space adventures of ragtag teams aboard waifu-powered ships.
report Recommended by Individuo80
Both are very much fun to watch and have a rag tag team that will blow your mind!
report Recommended by Chaosutopia
Both series have humor, a hint of fanservice, serious moments and a ton of action. Outlaw star takes the path of a space-age protagonist on a quest which ends in an epic battle. Check it out!

Space, Space Battles, Mysterious Characters, and the same general type of feel. Each are unique on its own, but similar in set up.
report Recommended by Aiege_Rikumaru
Lots of action, adventure and heavy battles, these animes are great. Both of them have great character design with a bit of shading. Even the girls that help them out are machine type...
report Recommended by y0l3itches
Well now lest see here hum........ they are similar because of Harry MacDougall. Since he turns his whole buddy into a mechanical machine. Kinda like the Elric brothers, but at least they don't wont to blow people up. Also by the fact that they both are searching for something, that they really wont.

It includes racing to a point, and it is very Scifi/fantasy.

Mospeada and Outlaw Star are both presented in an episodic fashion and involve a group of people traveling through their respective worlds(In Outlaw Star, space; Mospeada, North and South America), with an ultimate goal in mind(In Outlaw Star, unlocking the mystery of the Galactic Leyline; Mospeada, forcing the Inbit invaders from Earth). During their travels, they meet with various people and undergo multiple ordeals, while moving towards their goals.

Has the same space pirate theme, with a similar type of not your average crew and a ship that shows a resemblance to the Outlaw Star. May not be as action packed but brings you back that same feel of Gene and the Outlaw Star crew.
report Recommended by Siscokid
Outlaw Star and Arcadia of My Youth are all about space operas spiced with rebel ships and plenty of action to boot. Both are seasoned with plenty of cheese and take place in a distant future in which several factions are in conflict. Outlaw Star has plenty of humour and does not take itself too seriously for the most part while Arcadia of My Youth is greatly dramatic but there are enough space related battles going on to assure that these titles could share the same fanbase.

Similar concept but in different zones. Gungrave is done far better and has a very unique plot.
report Recommended by Eldar
Both series give off a similar feeling of an epic endless adventure. Outlaw Star however, was only 26 episodes long. Charimastic leads building up their crews, great female characters (somewhat rare in today's shounen titles), similar settings (Government, Criminals and Bounty hunters).

Both Mobile Suit Gunadm 00, and Outlaw Star have the meccha type anime and plot takes place in mostly from a galaxy far far away in outer space, =P. Not really but you get the whole concept that both animes pretty much takes place outside the world and use Mecchas. Anyways, these two animes made me realize you don't really have to be a hardcore meccha anime fan or a casual meccha anime person to be honest, but it's basically watchable to any people who are into anime in general. It's amazing to see the that Mobile Gundam 00 has more actiona packed and more Mecchas,  read more

Great plot, superb charaters, and a quest for knownlegde/power/ self discovery. Big O has everything that makes a show great.

If you're looking for absurd and hilarious adventures with eccentric characters, wacky weapons and visual jokes, then both of these shows seem to fit the bill - only one's steampunk and the other's space opera.
report Recommended by MS06FZ
Both are fun, entertaining sci-fi space adventure series with many interesting characters. Made in the 90's.

Main character (also macho) finds strange girl. From other sides difference 500%!!!' And Outlaw Star really recommended.
report Recommended by NeoMaximus
I made this recommendation for Outlaw Star because everyone is forgetting about this anime has a lot on Meccha and Space ship adventures and what not. If you like the concept of Meccha and animes that takes place in space then this is definitely the type of anime worth checking out. It has all the Sci-fi/Fantasy of a good anime. Both animes are definitely are really good to check out.

Great Sci-fi shows in Space.

Both main characters take odd jobs if the pay is right. Both shows offer plenty of gun slinging; though DMC is quite gory, keep that in mind.
