Seihou Bukyou Outlaw Star

Space cowboys anyone? Although at heart these two anime are completely different, they both have themes involving space, bounty hunting and drifting along in life. 

Fun to watch, adventurous space headhunters anime . Can't beat Cowboy Bebop , but very entertaining =P 

I feel as if these two anime are very simular. Mainly because its about the world in the future. Spaceships etc. The other reason would partically be because there both quite serious anime while having mild humour bits through the series. The main character in both series also have very simular personalitys being very good fighters while having a rather laid-back attituted. If you liked either of these animes i'd recommend watching the other. -Dwayne :) 

Both are in a sense space vigilantees who refuse to coform by the world's standards; but instead find their own way. Both shows also offer the establishment of comfortable life on other planets. Infact, I have never met anyone that saw Cowboy Bebop that didn't like Outlaw Star or vice-versa.  

Both share the genre of sci-fi. The comedic appeals are evident in both shows and the characters make the plot and action all lively. 

Both of these anime are set in a sci-fi universe and they each have an adventurous feel to them. Although, Cowboy Bebop has a slightly more gritty flavor to it than Outlaw Star does. The two series each have their own memorable characters and in the end most people that enjoy one would probably like the other. 

They both have a similar cast of characters such as Gene and Spike being the main characters, Jim and Aisha forming a mixture of Ed while Suzuka resembles the personality of Faye. Their mech action is alot alike whether it be the characters are using guns and swords or fighting in spacecrafts. They both originally aired in 1998. And the two of these shows are seinen, targeted towards the older viewers. 

like gun blazing bounty hunters in space? Not many old school animes can hold a candle to something like cowboy bebop but this is very similar and surprisingly very very good as well. 

A grand mix of the freelancer attitude, the sense of adventure, the comedy and shear awe of space travel.

Both series focus on a man who is wondering in space,looking for some quick money ,and kicking some butt.Cowboy bebop is more stylish and Outlaw star is more funny both are tottaly worth seeing 

Both cover a similar topic of a lone bounty-hunter with a small crew iin space, trying to make a buck where ever they can. Both start out this just one episode stories, but soon spread into the main story arc. 

Both have stellar bounty hunters, explosive battles, and femme fatales.  

Both are about space bounty hunters dealing with space pirates and criminals. Both are very exciting and have great characters. Most people probably already know this but I have to throw it out there. They are both great series.

Bounty Hunters, Bounty Hunters, Bounty Hunters! in the future of course! 

Both involves bounty hunting to make ends needs and drifting from planet to planet doing odd jobs here and there to get by. Plus, both ships are old and run downed heaps of scrap. 

Of course the main similarity is that it's in space :P It also tells a similar story of Outlaws that have a strict moral code. There is a lot of action like Bebop and the storytelling is very similar. 

A 'space cowboy' show. Albeit not nearly as mature or profound, Outlaw Star excels in its mastery of numerous genres, switching from comedy to psychological to action within minutes, yet with a skill and flow that few series can match. 

Both involve an eclectic cast of characters traversing the galaxy and having misadventures. Both are episodic in structure.  

If you're looking for a space adventure with crime and action, then Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star should definitely be something worth taking notice of. For these two series, they both have science fiction themes dealing with criminals in an adventure like setting. The atmosphere of the shows has intensity and bits of emotions at various points. The style of both series also gives off a similar mood. There's also bits of comedy and humorous dialogue that ensure entertainment. For the main characters, they are both laid back, straight forward, and takes charge on various situations. Outlaw Star is sometimes compared to Cowboy Bebop - they are really very similar. This is what would be Cowboy Bebop with drama removed... 

The space adventure is the main theme of these anime. Also both have include a bit of comedy and drama component.

Similar plot devices, similar stories of main characters riding a well tuned state of the art spaceship. Even though because of the similarity you will think that Outlaw Star is a copy of Cowboy Bebop, it's more light hearted and it will surely grow on you. I definitely recommend it and I definitely think that you will become a fan of Outlaw Star if you are already a fan of Cowboy Bebop.

Same kind of space adventures by a somewhat dysfunctional crew of outlaws. 

Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star are both space westerns featuring a crew containing bounty hunters that attempt to make a living off their jobs. In both anime, the crews' attempt to "make it big" through high paying bounties or jobs is often foiled. Both are episodic anime that concentrate more on individual stories, while the overall plot is an undercurrent that compliments the series rather than dominating it. Cowboy Bebop's individual stories tend to be deep or compelling, while Outlaw Star's individual stories focus more on comedy instead, but Outlaw Star does not lack in emotion and Cowboy Bebop does not lack in comedy. 

They are both sci-fi anime where their protagonists are both bounty hunters who engage themselves in space adventures with lots of action and drama. Outlaw star is not a masterpiece like cowboy bebop but it's certainly good and you will enjoy it.  

Both have that 90s atmosphere of anime, and both deal with a group traveling space doing various tasks. It's like a weird but quirky fantasy/space slice of life kind of? Both deal with group of characters/friends traveling space doing spontaneous but adventurous things. 

Both stories center around a crew of bounty hunters travelling the stars on a spaceship, and have many similar elements to how their plot develop... as well as similar antagonists. The major differences between the two shows is that the characters in Outlaw Star tend to be more goofy and cartoony, while in Cowboy Bebop, they generally remain serious and realistic. 

These anime have many similarities. Both have main characters who are bounty hunters, both take place in the future and involve space travel, both have a group of friends that travel with them, both anime are named after the spaceship's the MC pilot. They are great anime and I highly suggest both! 

These two anime share similar tones of action and mystery when it comes to adventuring in space with a crew for the sake of finding answers. Their main stories don't evolve until near the end as there are a lot of side plots along the way that are meant to expand on the world you've been thrown into.  

There are many similarities between these shows: - Spike and Gene Starwind are space bounty hunters. In Bebop, they are called "Cowboys", and ''Outlaws'', in Outlaw Star. - Faye Valentine and Melfina don't remember their pasts. - Both have similar animation style. - Both were released in 1998. - Seinen animes, although they have comedy sometimes. - Both were produced by Sunrise. - Both are episodic. 

They both cower space adventures, love, strange aliens and goofy jokes. 

Similar general tone, sci-fi adventure with ragtag team of characters. Made by same studio. 

Both are dark themed sci fi crime stories, with lots of violence,action and also a focus on philosophy as well too. And a focus on friendships between characters as well too. 

Strong cast, space themed, great battle scenes and music. 

Both are mostly episodic stories about a crew of people living on a spaceship who every now and then travel to different planets and space stations. 

Better than Black Lagoon, Trigun and Baccano........Outlaw star actually has a very similar vibe to Cowboy Bebop. It's not as good, but honestly this is the only show that actually comes close. Trigun has this very immature feeling to it and the main characters problem with morality is quite tedious/cliched/annoying/overly-obsessive. Black Lagoon is for edgy 13 year olds and Bacanno is for edgy 15 year olds. Lagoon has some seriously cringe melodrama throughout and Baccano is just a massive pretentious ruckus which compensates for a lack of good storytelling and characterisation, by constantly switching between time periods and characters to keep you from falling asleep. Outlaw star has more class. The dub is also great, i was watching the dub.  read more 

Same company put these two Space westerns out the same year, Outlaw Star coming just a little before Bebop. Not as well polished but an entertaining and exciting journey for anyone lucky enough to find this sentimental gem. It is worth a watch no doubt.  

Episodic, flamboyant and great fun. Outlaw Star offers us a diverse environment of charismatic characters who face various enemies during their journey. With a badass protagonist, able to remind us of the beloved Spike Spiegel. Very good adventures, bombastic and with great chances that you will remember it as a good series. 

character-based anime where with each episode you get to know more about the characters. in both shows a good amount of action takes place in space, both of the main characters have a special weapon, caster in OS , psychogun in Cobra, in both shows main characters have a trusty sidekick, in both shows there is a plot involving a search for a mysterious artifact, 

-Similar premise and setting. -Artstyle is also very similar. -Some similarities in the Main Character 

While not identical in the storytelling, style, or progession they share many core themes. Both feature protagonists/charaters in a space travel setting that overall builds up to a final big ending. Both have a journey, character growth, filler episodes, etc. I feel that if you watch one (and like it) you should watch the other. Which one you watch first is not important. Take both of these classics in and savor what they are. Classics. 

- Main characters piloting a red piece of machinery that exceed the potential of all other ships - A younger guy following around some older guy calling him his aniki - a soft spoken girl who first appears encased in a box - a homosexual who handles ship parts - a vicious furry who tries to kill the main characters but ends up as part of the crew It's practically the same thing. 

Outlaw Star has a similar character structure and epic battles, with a less whiny kid sidekick! 

Remarkably similar crisp art styles, camera angles, themes (doing crazy stuff, exceeding expectations, pumping music, melee combat in space, having a unique ship, etc) make it a sure-thing that if you like one, you'll like the other. 

Gurren Lagann took everything Outlaw Star did right and improved its story on it. There are too many similarities both plot wise and character wise. 1- Both are stories of two brothers without a bloodline. 2- Both have epic space fights. 3- Both are stories of a crew that built for same reason 4- Both are making philosophy on human nature and machines 5- Both are road stories with their own way 6- Way too much similarities I can not list in there because of Spoiler restriction generally plot wise 

In an epic tale, there are epic characters and storytelling. For both TTGL and Outlaw Star, they offer exactly what you hope to get. The main cast of both series consists of characters who excels in combat and various arts of war. They involve a setting with science fiction themes. There's a lot of humorous dialogues but also the same time tragic moments. From those moments though are memorable events that captures the mood of their perspective settings. In both series, the characters do own their own weaponry in the battle consisting of their own signature names/brand that allows them to go head to head against various adversaries. read more 

The character archetypes and interactions are so similar between these series. Older hotblooded guy Young rational kid who has a brotherly bond. A girl in a box, essential to the overarching plot. Strong/skilled female team member (two in Outlaw Star).  

Both are sci fi themed with lots of action and a colorful cast as well as lots of stlyish art and character designs to look at as well too. 

A young kid joins an older guy that he see's as a role model and refers to as his older brother on a journey exploring outside of their world.  

From the very first episode, these two series are very similar. Both have cheeky, reckless protagonists that work as a space/bounty hunter. Both have basically the same setting— a distant future, in galaxy far, far away. Both also have lots of great comedy. 

Outlaw Star and Space Dandy tie its themes together with the presentation of a space adventure. The main male protagonist has a partner that travels with them on a journey of discovery. Along the way, they encounter both allies and foes while making learning about new wonders of the universe. Both series adapts sci-fi themes into its perspective so expect action, drama, and an adventurous tone of delivery.  

Both Space Dandy and Outlaw Star have great animation, humor, and characters. Each takes place in a distinct, immense universe where space travel is of the norm and humans and other lifeforms reside among the various worlds within. But most importantly, both anime have a strong sense identity and purpose, and that purpose is to both enjoy themselves and entertain their audiences in the process. True, the methods can differ from time to time, but in the end, both want the same thing: to just have fun. And while both can get pretty silly, that's not to say they aren't without a somber moment here or there. But even when they do decide to get serious, they're very careful about when to act as such, and never stay that way for longer than absolutely necessary. They do each provide some depth and do possess continuity (once again, each in their own way), but the deeper tones are subtle and neither anime punishes those who don't pick up on those themes or watch the episodes out of order, be they casual viewers or dedicated otaku. If you're a fan of great animation, humor, science fiction, or a combination of all three, both Outlaw Star and Space Dandy are definitely worth checking out. read more 

Space faring, gun toting, womanizing men! Episodic shows where space bounty hunters chase after their fortunes in the vast universe. With their multi-species crews they traverse the galaxy fighting aliens and pirates while hoping to make it big and score some with the ladies.  

in both, main character is a young adventurer who gets himself in trouble as often as he breathes. both set in a world of spaceships and bounty hunters, and have great balance between comedy, drama, and action. 

Trigun and Outlaw Star brings together a sense of space adventure. They include decent action, drama, and comedy. For both main male protagonists, they often takes charges on the actions they do which often have influence around others. Both series also contain science fiction theme with a high degree volume of entertainment through its conventional way of humor. However at the same time, there's emotions pouring through in various moments especially with some of the later events. Both series also takes place in a setting of the distant future. 

Both shows involve the adventures of a gunslinging main character as he travels across many different places meeting and helping the locals who live there. They both also have a group of companions that help the main characters many times throughout both series. 

Both of these series are space westerns that mix action and zany comedy with occasional drama and thought provoking moments. If you liked one, then you will probably like the other. 

Both are Sci-Fi series with a decent amount of comedy that can get very serious at times. Outlaw Star is more comedic and doesn't have as many serious moments but still worth a shot if you enjoyed Trigun.

Similar kind of space adventures, with the same atmosphere and the search for a mythical treasure. 

Both shows have sci-fi opera inspired setting, and are mostly adventurous ones, with a pinch of comedy, also in both you have your varied crew of misfits, who ends up working and synching great together. 

both have extremely similar art styles and animation direction, both are set in space with a space opera kind of theme to them, both have practically the same genre's except for photon containing some minor ecchi (ye been warned) 

Both involve a team of space explorers fighting for what they believe is right. Good action, that classic 90s style, and their similar humor make these two a good match. if you like one than chances are you'll like the other. 

The similarities between two anime are too many to count but here are some: -Both anime have a semi-episodic structure with an emphasis on adventure in space -Both anime have an anti-hero as the MC and a female android as a companion/partner -In both anime evil pirates are the main enemy in addition to some other enemies -In both anime there is some sort of special police force; Galactic Patrol in Cobra, Angel Links in Outlaw Star -In both anime the main character has a special weapon Psychogun in Cobra and Caster gun in Outlaw Star -Both anime fall under the space opera genre and as expected from the genre the characters visit different planets throughout the series -In both anime characters use a specially built spaceship with some cool features -Both anime has a plot about searching for a secret treasure all the while competing against evil pirates to reach it first -In both anime the leader of the evil pirates is a mysterious character who wears some kind of mask -Both anime have an episode where the main character poses as a wrestler Last but not least, even though many people compare Outlaw Star to Cowboy Bebop (since it's much better known unlike Cobra) in fact the similarities between two anime are pretty much superficial like both having the space theme and anti-hero vibe going on, whereas similarities between Cobra and Outlaw Star make them perfect companion pieces .  read more 

Come on...HOW is this not already the number 1 recommended for vandread? Outlaw star and vandread have a far more similar plot than anything else on here.  

The world presented in both animes is very similar, in both the protagonists are bounty hunters of sorts, although themathically they have diffirent approach to the plot.Even if with some diffirencies, if you'd enjoy the diversity and comlplexity of the worlds, presented in one of the shows, go for the other as well.
