YOU KNOW THE SHOW IS AMAZING WHEN YOU HAVE 3 CHARACTERS ALL STANDING IN ONE SPOT FOR AN ENTIRE EPISODE DOING NOTHING BUT TALKING AND STILL HAVE IT BE EPIC. "LIVE UNTIL YOU DIE" No1 HUNTER X HUNTER 1999: For me it is better than the 2011 version at least until the Greed Island arc after that 2011 is better imho. Well maybe better is not the right word, I just personally prefer the execution of the original anime. The atmospheric music and dark animation used in 1999 version create an atmosphere and a feeling of a more mature and deep anime which suits better for this show. Some details are done differently in the old version, other details are completely left out in the new one. This has as an effect different character characterizations which seem more deep and more fitting for some of them plus the fillers of the 1999 version are really well written and enhance most of the characters of this show. My preference is not based only on nostalgia and you can deduce that by yourself if you have watched the 2011 version try the 1st episode of 1999 and see for yourself ( how the music and animation create a more dramatic and mature feel). That being said I think 2011 is incredibly well done and guys who are biased and dropped it because they liked 99 better should really reconsider it and give it a try.To clarify, HxH 99 isn't my top favorite because it doesn't have the Chimera Ant arc but for the arcs it does have I consider it better than 2011 one. As for arcs go I prefer Hunter Exam arc, Zoldyck Family mini-arc, Yorkshin City arc of the 99 version. Heaven's Arena and Greed Island arcs are better handled in the 2011 version. *FOR THOSE WHO ARE NEW TO THE SERIES WATCH 2011*(it's a safer recommendation if you know what I mean). Also it has animated the Chimera Ant arc which wasn't in the 99 and this arc is one of the best things I've had the privilege of witnessing in anime and all media in general. MY TOP5 COMEDY ANIME School Rumble Great Teacher Onizuka Golden Boy(sub and dub) Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou Gintama ABOUT ME Hello everyone I am Alex and i love anime as means of entertainment. I was 22 when I saw my first anime. Death Note was introduced to me by a friend and I was hooked for life :). How amazing some of them can be? I watched 43 episodes of Naruto in a row one day(my second anime) and I wanted more!!! That's just crazy... Can I have an Amen here :P !!!??? Seriously that's not healthy. Balance is the key!!!( I am just reminding it myself here). If you want a recommendation just tell me what genre do you prefer(if you want to cry or laugh a lot) and I'll suggest an anime to you. I hate when a show assumes that its audience are idiots and won't notice STUPID OBVIOUS FLAWS----> Yes I am talking about you SAO,Mirrai Nikki,Guilty Crown,Btooom especially the last 3 which are rated for 17+ (so treat us like 17+ you retards...) When this happens my overall enjoyment drops at a free fall rate, I feel insulted in a way. Hope we share with each other what anime we've seen and liked in search of the best of them. Have fun and don't hesitate to contact. Thx. HOW I RATE SHOWS---->"Don't Judge a Fish By It's Ability To Fly" I RATE STRICTLY SUBJECTIVELY(BASED ON PERSONAL ATTACHMENT). I created this account having watched 90% of the shows a long time ago so I rate on general enjoyment I had as I can remember it. I do understand that I overrate some shows but the 8s,9s and 10s are there just to show what shows I enjoyed the most, what level of personal attachment I had and how much I could relate to what I was watching or reading. There are shows that I rated 9 or 10 which "objectively" don't have an original story or good character development or they might have plot holes or stupid characters and story but I PERSONALLY enjoyed them. Example: Black lagoon(standard hollywood shit),shingeki no kyojin(stupid mc,char development is low),angel beats(bad char dev., fanservice),highschool of the dead, kaichou wa maid sama(cliche, but i liked it), elfen lied etc... Not to mention that objectivity can't and never will exist in any form of art. Also there are shows that I rated with a high score that if I were to rewatch them they wouldn't even get a 6 from me now but I rarely rewatch stuff so they will remain as they are. One last thing. My criteria for rating a show differ from genre to genre. For example I will consider different things when rating something like Monster,Death Note, Mushishi and I might take into account other criteria for School Rumble or Chihayafuru or Kaichou wa Maid Sama. For the latter the criteria of enjoyment/comedy is highly taken into account as opposed to shows with a more mature/serious story/plot. Although personal preference(subjective taste which raises the enjoyment levels) is taken into account at least at a 50 per cent proportion. (50 per cent enjoyment/personal attachment, 25 per cent story+animation+sound, 25 per cent chars) I dislike hypocrites and conceited people that judge an anime on something it wasn't supposed to be or "hate" something just to seem "cool". Some "elitists" provide sound reasoning on why they consider something bad but others just miss the point entirely, it's worse when they actually enjoyed something and to seem "intellectual" and "intelligent" bash the anime for irrelevant points. For example I've seen quite a few "elitists" or not who watch a battle shounen (eg HxH, One Piece, Naruto) and judge it badly giving reasons like..."well it's too shounenish"...That's not a sound reason and for a guy who tries to be "intellectual" is quite stupid, they either enjoyed it and bash it to seem cool or they didn't enjoy it because they don't like battle shounen in the first place(how retarded is that? it is like saying I don't like drama and this show has a lot of drama therefore it is bad and I'll rate it a 3/10). I have no problem though with people who genuinely disliked sth who can formulate an argument and provide good reasons. Although I don't really take MAL too seriously cause 93% of MAL users think that 93% of people here are idiots, well.... If I had to create a rating system it would probably be something like this... 10. This is a must watch by my standards. This anime has something really unique to it. If it's a comedy I laughed my ass off, if it's an action I couldn't stop watching, if it's a mystery and mind games I was intrigued and kept guessing, if it was a drama I probably cried or felt really sad,if it was slice of life/philosophical/psychological I scooped some really great life lessons.Generally the enjoyment level is over 9000. 9. Probably a must watch. An amazing show. Has some flaws that can't have a 10 from me. Overall enjoyment is over the roof. Watch this. 8.A very good anime overall just some elements wasn't that appealing to me or something felt off.An anime that you probably don't want to miss, the likelihood of you liking it is very high because what wasn't appealing to me might be appealing to you.Has some flaws but still greatly enjoyable. 7. A good anime and definitely not a waste of time, I enjoyed it pretty much. Although something was seriously off in this show( eg. bad ending, cliche story, bad char development etc..) or something just didn't appeal to me. 6.A decent anime that I enjoyed fairly enough, probably worth watching. Had some elements that made me want to finish it (eg. motivational story, good comedic moments, interesting premise, likeable chars etc...). 5.An average anime. We have seen this before(cliche story, mediocre characters, fanservice). Didn't have something else to watch so watched this. Probably not worth watching. But it was somehow enjoyable. 4.Overall it was quite a disappointment(plot holes, fan service, bad story and writing, wooden characters with bad or no development at all....). Had good animation and soundtrack mixed with probably senseless action so it was watchable at least to spend time, if you are really bored. 3.2.1.A total waste of my time, shit beyond shit. Stay away from those anime. FAVORITE GENRES If the series is good I don't really care what genre it is, I'll watch/read anything. Although I notice that there are 3 tags that tend to persist in my favorites, those are Drama,Psychological,Seinen, or a good mature Drama,Romance. I mean even HxH which is a shounen with no psychological tag surely in the Chimera Ant arc feels like a mature psychological drama. According to MALgraph my favorite genres are: Historical,Drama,Psychological, Sports,Slice of Life.... So there you have it feel free to recommend me anything good, but if its a Psychological, Drama aimed at adult audiences you will be double thanked!!! :) MY TOP 10 AMV LIST: 1.RS-Humanity http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jxRcGQM5Qo&list=PL0F9DFC49ACB2C5D6 [WARNING HXH SPOILERS] RS - Ignis Fatuus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiRtWEpt5N8 2.World of Conflicts IV- Kings http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJZbrN3Q7rA&list=LLB2aXo4PvB0fdsxxx5UkP2g 3.Mix Amv Get Up!-SCAVA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqbx8if4F3M&list=PL0F9DFC49ACB2C5D6 4.Noize http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vk8Krl_sPMY&list=PL0F9DFC49ACB2C5D6 5.Devil's Game http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmPhX9QEks8&list=PL0F9DFC49ACB2C5D6 6.Our Future http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLio-gFTvqk&list=PL0F9DFC49ACB2C5D6 7.Life is Beautiful http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0slhWiBVr4&list=PL0F9DFC49ACB2C5D6 8.RS- Butterflies http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9W1k3tl3xU&list=LLB2aXo4PvB0fdsxxx5UkP2g ***BIG HUNTER X HUNTER SPOILERS*** 8.Shatters Of Reflection http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KA-ziDSjAq4&list=PL0F9DFC49ACB2C5D6 9.Still Alive http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcbZt2Cw0QE&list=PL0F9DFC49ACB2C5D6 10.Heartshift: Phase 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKazlyl3B3I&list=PL0F9DFC49ACB2C5D6 QUOTES "DON'T CALL ME TO JOIN A MOVEMENT AGAINST THE WAR, CALL ME WHEN THERE IS A MOVEMENT FOR PEACE" Mother Teresa "Rule No1 of any game:The only way to get smarter is by playing a smarter opponent. I haven't finished the Yorknew arc, it's gonna be good I reckon from the reviews and ratings. I've given it a break to watch other shows, because once I get into HxH, it becomes the only thing I end up truly watching.
Rurouni Kenshin's first episode was quite good. I particularly enjoyed the first scene where bandits attacked the slaver party, the tension, the fear, the helplessness and lawless realism of the period. Do you have any recommendations on some good samurai anime?
On a side note, while I don't put much stock in animation and music, the 2011 version really did make the scenes far more epic compared to the 99 version, e.g. the fight between Gon and Hisoka was heart pounding.
It's something that never happened when Gon was getting tortured by Hanzo for three hours. Zepile even remarks that Gon was a dangerous enigma because he cares little about the morality of a person, rather he pivots towards 'indifference' because of his boundless curiosity. The same trademark that against all odds managed to strike a friendship with Killua. That is not to say that Gon is a psychopath, as shown with his friendships.
What did you think of that scene?
As to the HA arc, I found it rather similar but on closer inspection, the differences are quite remarkable. One thing that struck me was in the 99 version, Gon is overfilled with a jarring elation as he closely inspects THE fist that punched Hisoka. Hisoka alone walks towards Gon, almost with a caring stride, with a hand out, patiently waiting for the tag. A subtle but non-malicious smile is printed on Hisoka's face.
In the 2011 version is starkly different. Gon proves to Hisoka that he is a worthy foe. With eyes brimming with determination, both walk towards each other and exchange the tag. Hisoka's eyes narrow. Hisoka takes Gon seriously, what an embarrassing moment for Kastro if he were to see it.
Also they added additional roles and actions of iconic characters such as Illumi, Hisoka, Geretta, Siper, Pockle and Ponzu that really added to the character development. If only the 99 version covered as much manga material as 2011 it would of made for some exceptional twists and turns for these characters.
btw, I had a quick read of your hxh review. Nailed it mate. I was never a fan of shounen, because of the reasons you listed, but I can make HxH an exception.
