Tenki no Ko

Love stories with a touch of supernatural. Both done by the same director and are awesome movies everyone should watch. They share the same universe(Tenki no Ko has cameos from Kimi no Na Wa's characters) which is irrelevant for the plot but fun fact to know.  

Overall, Makoto Shinkai's films tend to complete themselves, since all the films are set in the same universe. Also, in the search of a visual experience at same level (spoiler: its very hard to find) or if you just want to watch a more deeper story, Kimi no Na Wa probably its the right choice to you 

If you enjoy romance anime with exceptionally beautiful animation and a touch of mysticism, Kimi no Na wa and Tenki no Ko are excellent choices. Both films are created by the same author and share a universe, presenting stories that delve into a magical and superstitious atmosphere.

This is an obvious comparison as both share the same visual style and director, but Your Name and Weathering With You are well-animated anime films with themes of romance and the supernatural (the latter is even set in the same universe as the former, though it's not necessary to watch the former to enjoy the latter). Several other similarities are well-done musical montages (as well as RADWIMPS), family problems, an emotionally charged climax, and a touch of Japanese culture. 

Other than the fact that these two were crafted by Makoto Shinkai and his team thus having the same art style and animation, they also contain the same formula and elements. Both revolve contain Shinto religion, both are love stories with supernatural aspects revolving around them, both contain extremely similar story/plot and pacing structure (especially during the climax), and both have RADWIMPS for the music. 

Tenki no Ko takes a more cynical approach to the supernatural, showing what happens when the will of the gods/supernatural interferes in the lives of the modern age. Instead of going on a desperate love quest to look for his destined one, he finds her at the beginning, easy right? Wrong. Life is simply unfair, and much more punishing than that. Overall, I feel like the flow of the story was much more fluid than Kimi no Na Wa. However, I would say the emotional parts aren't as powerful. Granted, this movie works wonders as a sequel, occurring 1 year after Taki and Mitsuha get together. The movie includes more realistic themes than Kimi no Na Wa but requires less knowledge of Japanese culture, because of how the details are strongly implied to you. The movie is even more realistic than the Kimi no Na Wa because of the fact that it's more connected to the city, but the protagonist is just so unintelligent it's sometimes painful to endure. Overall, I would recommend just sitting back and letting the movie take you in. The flow is just so well done. The sound design is brilliant, and the music is just so good of a match. The ending is an acquired taste, but I think a certain appearance will make you grin in your seat. read more

A transcendental love story. Your Name and Weathering With You are both great boy meets girl stories around two teenagers who are caught up in supernatural affairs. Your Name follows Taki and Mitsuha as they continuously body swap with one another leading to a journey to find one another. Weathering With You follows runaway Hodaka and 'sunshine girl' Hina on their journey of helping others via weather changing powers and finding a place to be. Both simple supernatural romance but are visual eye candy with amazing OST, made by the same director Makoto Shinkai. 

In both: - there are two teenagers, which are main characters - director is Shinkai Makoto - tags are Drama, Romace, Supernatural, Slice of Life - amazing music by RADWIMPS - beautiful art 

Both films have similar themes and pull at your heart strings. Both have beautiful visuals and musical scores.  

To start, both movies are made by the same director and have a very similar art style. They're both absolutely stunning. Also, both of them follow a male+female duo who fall in love over the course of the movie. They also both revolve around the boy saving the girl from some supernatural happenings so she won't die. 

Kimi no Na wa and Tenki no Ko are both created by Makoto Shinkai and Radwimps did both of the stunning sound tracks. ~ Both are romance, drama, and fantasy/supernatural ~ Both have really unique storylines ~ Really pretty visuals and amazing music ~ Both are really bitter-sweet and are full of feels ~ They also both have appearances from characters in other Shinkai works Overall they are both really amazing films that I think almost anybody could love.

Both of them start using the logic of the real world (meaning that everyone know that time traveling or super powers are not real for example) and then they start being illogical like allowing time traveling for example. In both of these anime the same band sings. Both will make you cry. How the story flows and everything else are really similar in both of these animes.

God tier animations and probably the best art styles you will see in animated movies. Both movies include superpowers as well as romance and some depression ⁀⊙﹏☉⁀ 

Very similiar theme and feeling. The characters from Kimi no Na wa also follow here a little. 

Both of the movies are directed by Makoto Shinkai, and they exist in the same universe. Bunch of references to the previous movie, similarly beautiful scenery and animation. Both movies are awe-inspiring in similar ways, you will be immersed so greatly that the fictional world will become real and you will wish to share the experiences with the characters yourself. Both movies TRULY AMAZING. 

Romantic tales are established through supernatural concepts, sharing a similar premise within an identical universe. In general, I would suggest simply pausing for a minute or two and allowing the film to take you in. The story in these movies is well done while being accompanied by a splendid soundtrack as the drift of its art style is presented. Almost all the people I know love these movies, and I'm sure you'll like them too! Give it a try and see for yourself!

The awaited sequel to Makoto Shinkai's highly praised and extremely well-received Kimi No Na Wa, or Your Name, Weathering With You has become another prominent movie in the early 2020 movie roster. I personally enjoyed Weathering With You more-so than Your Name, but that might just be my craziness. While both films' plots are debated frequently, the soundtrack of Weathering With You is objectively better, as RADWIMPS have simply outdone themselves in this new story. It might not matter much to you, but the soundtrack of a movie is very determinant in my overall enjoyment of it, and in some cases, can carry a movie the whole way through. read more

Its another Makoto-goddamn-Shinkai movie, need more convincing? He manages to somehow perfect Your Name's visual fidelity, by some voodoo black magic make it even more detailed than before, with even the skidding of a shoe launching into a sprint off a floor slick from heavy rain looking perfect. RADWIMPS makes a return, orchastrating only another perfect fitting OST for Weathering With You. The only concern you should have is to not ride the tsunami of hype that Your Name brought over into your watching of Tenki No Ko. Its not a sequel, it wasn't written to be one, and should be respected as its own film. You'll want this over any blue sky. read more

Both are great romance movies with a side of supernatural on them, they're great starters for people who just got into romance anime/movies, if you have watched the one, you should watch the other certantly.

With the same studio and director, both movies give great detail to the scene and surroundings, making it really enjoyable to watch. The two stories are based on a supernatural idea witch carries the story of two students and the adversities they have to go through. If you've watched either and enjoyed it, the other is a sure must. 

Same atmosphere, same director. Happen to be on the same page, but different timeline. Both about romance, both have some supernatural stuff. 

This is probably the closest you are going to get if want something similar to Your Name. Its got the same artstyle, director, band doing the OST, and type of plot (romance/supernatural). A definite recommendation! 

Both explore relationships in a fantasy manner and the main protagonists fall for people who seem close but are also quite far away. The animation for both are also really pretty

Yes, this is quite obvious since both were written by our beloved Makoto Shinkai. In my opinion, "Your Name" outclasses "Weathering with You" since the latter has several plot holes, somewhat of a disturbing message (sacrifice), and an immature and irresponsible main character. HOWEVER, regardless it is still an amazing watch as the animation is breathtaking! Anyways, if you haven't watched either I strongly recommend. (Also, as a side note, watch "I want to eat your pancreas" if you haven't already:) )

I recommend this anime and Tenki no Ko because they are pretty similar exactly since the director is the same person. At the end of the anime of Kimi no Na wa it really gives you excited vibes and makes you want the director to make movie 2, following on from that. It’s the same with Tenki no Ko. They are so enjoyable and entertaining. That’s why I recommend these anime’s and the similarities. Please don’t criticise or start a argument over things I’ve said or spelling because it’s not necessary. Thank you! 

when it comes to animation both movies have exactly the same awe-inspiring visual style amd even the characters feeels the same . 

Tenki no Ko and Kimi no Na wa both have the same director. This results in almost exactly the same style and feel in both movies. The plots are also very similar. They both depict a teenage romance with some supernatural elements thrown in to spice it up. They are both near the same length, have some of the most gorgeous scenery in anime, and, of course, the animation slaps in each one.

if you like Tenki no ko, then you'll 100% like kimi no na wa. Personally i think its the best Anime Movie of all time. And its my personal favorite anime of all time 

Compared to previous Shinkai works, Your Name resulted to me more fast paced and intriguing, so of all his works, I found Weathering with You to be the most similar one. 

From a tragic love tale to the soundtracks Tenki no Ko definitely gave me Kimi no Na wa vibes. if you have the time and if your one of those people who ranked Kimi no Na wa a "10" you wont be disappointed

Amazing visuals and a great soundtrack. Tenki no Ko and Bubble are similar in the weather aspects of the story revolving around Tokyo drowning in the process.  

~Both are aesthetically pleasing movies. ~Both have 'magical girl' elements (as in girls who have otherworldly elements, not as in Sailor Moon). ~Both are romances between a regular, human boy and the 'magical' girl. 

- Both of them is visually stunning and has a good soundtrack - Revolves around a weather phenomenon - Girl has special power related to the weather - Storywise, Weathering with You has a better story than Bubble 

Both have weather-related disasters happening in Tokyo, and a female lead directly linked to those events. 

It's pretty much the same story beats but the end is a bit different. Like Weathering With You it has an amazing OST (in this case by the GOAT Hiroyuki Sawano) that hits you right in the feels alongside great visuals.  

It is basically the same thing, if you liked one you will like the other. The main difference is the personality of the characters and that in bubble they do parkour. I personally loved both. 

The field around which these two movies revolve is water, definitely the best anime movies of all time and just the feeling after watching these two is incredible. 

Weathering with you and Bubble have a couple key similarities -both have to do with Tokyo being flooded by a strange weather phenomena -the male protagonist of the two are adolescents breaking the law -the female protagonist both have a special connection to the weather -both female protagonist's bodies slowly turn to water as the story reaches the climax -no spoilers, but the climaxes & endings of the two films are pretty similar Personally I thought that Weathering with You was of far higher quality than Bubble, but if you enjoyed the plot of one you might want to check out the other one. 

Bonds made through the rain. Garden of Words and Weathering With You features stories based on rain and two who spend their times in it. Garden of Words uses rain in a positive way to show Takao's and Yukari's tender conversations whilst it is raining, getting to know one another. Weathering With You uses rain to bring connection between Hodaka and Hina, and their time helping others remove the rain. Both are good romance with an exceptional amount of eye candy, made by the same director Makoto Shinkai. 

Having the same ambiance that sets in a rainy atmosphere, as it deals with the premise of a high school teenage boy developing romantic attraction and relationship towards a person older than them. There is not a crazy thing to see here, but it is a great experience to watch nonetheless, for both feel unique in their own way.

Both films are under conditions of weather. In weathering with you 'Taki Tachibana' calls 'Amino Hina' to make the sunrise after rain for the people while in "The Garden of words" describe the feel of rain when two love birds meet. Both films denoting the look, feel and theme of rain. 

Not gonna spoil anything but you'll know the similarities when you watch it. 

Very similar in some ways, both have beautiful animation, it's about water, romance and have a bit similar plots. Both are sweet and great visuals. 

Both of these are very emotional and romance forcused. They also strongly resemble each other from a story perspective. Those who have watched both of these will know exactly what i mean. I can't go into detail of exactly what for spoiler reasons. But i think it's safe to say that if you watched and enjoyed one of these two, then i'm sure you're going to like the other. I personally couldn't take my mind away from Nagi no Asu kara while watching Tenki no Ko just due to how similar they are. The two of these also feature soundtracks which i think they did a really great job with, if you are a music/sound enthusiast then i don't think you'll be left disappointed watching either of these.  read more

SciFi/Supernatural teen romance Tenki-like movie 

Presenting fascinating concepts dealing greatly with one's perception in life. Making anyone who watches these films go in awe as they indulge themselves in the wonderful aspects and insights that these films have to offer. So, are you curious about what it is about? Then give these movies a try! 

Both much or less are similiar drama fantasy. Like the MC and the heroine, they're helping each other to get out from the messed up situation. Even though both aren't much related (or even not related idk) you'll feel the same atmosphere when you watch both. 

-Both of these titles involve a supernatural background with the characters spending some screen-time in the air -The same amount of romance can be felt in both, albeit a bit more pronounced in Tenki no Ko -If you enjoyed the supernatural part of either, you will most likely love the other movie as well :)

High School leads, throughout the course of a absurd and supernatural plot, risk the safety and well-beings of others for the sake of a love interest whom they met fairly recently. Man vs. Nature story that primarily focuses on environmental threats which only the respective leads could solve, with the threats present being directly the fault of the protagonists actions. Themes of self-sacrifice, mother-like figures, and love. 

Runaway. TnK and Ponyo are quite similar to each other in other cases other than the motif of water, both featuring a runaway of some kind who ends up acquainting with their deuteragonist (could look at them as the protagonist as well), commencing forth on an adventure full of the supernatural miracles. Ponyo does this with a mermaid(-ish) girl named Ponyo living with a newly found friend of hers Sousuke, the two go on an adventure to make Ponyo become human, compared to a lively presented TnK which has Hodaka and Hina go around and change people's lives with this discovery of her superpower, dubbed as a "sunshine girl" role. Both are great anime movies you can watch with just about anyone, having an incredibly good production, made by awesome directors Miyazaki and Shinkai respectively. read more 

Both "Typhoon Noruda" and "Weathering with You" are stand alone movies, and they are pretty similar too -the plot of both involves Japan being hit by a unexplained weather catastrophe -there is a mysterious girl who is the cause of the weather in both -said girl is the love interest of the protagonist and wears a symbolic necklace -protagonist in both films has to reconcile with another character to save the girl There are some differences, Typhoon Noruda takes place in rural Japan while Weathering with You takes place in Tokyo. Also I thought the former was a bit rushed, while the latter had a longer runtime. But they both have nearly identical plots and the animation is also very similar in both.  read more 

Runaway. TnK and Princess Mononoke both feature a runaway who ends up meaning a girl of some quality in supernatural respect, whether it be due to a relationship or special power. The two pairs end up trying to make do with one another in both movies too, though Princess Mononoke takes into consideration all parties in the story. Whereas TnK is just teenagers doing dumb things but with one another, they can improve themselves for the better. Both highly acclaimed movies though I would say Princess Mononoke tries (and succeeds) at being more sophisticated. If nothing else TnK is for the visuals.  

The World Ends With You The Animation and Weathering With You are two fantasy anime with a 15-16 year old teenage boy as the main protagonist. The main character finds himself in the middle of Tokyo with no real idea of what they're doing there, and meets many people throughout the story. One of these people is a mysterious yet friendly girl who quickly befriends him and slowly means much more to the main character over time. Expect some sadness—the original TWEWY game is a better experience than the anime though. 

Beautifully animated movies with their own unique respective stories and themes that will likely make you feel emotional at certain moments. The main characters are a boy working together with a girl who has supernatural abilities that cause major events in their area which is reportedly newsworthy. The supernatural powers are a mystery and they must do their best to figure out how to come to terms with them. Along with side characters who try to help the two main characters achieve their final goal in the movie and background characters who try to stop them. 

First of all, they have the same author, second they are similar because it's a story that is really sad in romance 

Runaways. Weathering With You and The Boy and The Beast both feature children runaways who end up entwining their lives with some supernatural entity. Tenki no Ko is Hodaka and his fate with "sunshine girl" Hina. Boy and Beast is about Ren and his time as Kumatetsu disciple. Both Hodaka and Ren find new people along this way to aid them in their objectives too. Both are good fantasy anime movies with great visuals, though Tenki no Ko features romance compared to a father-son relationship in Boy and Beast.  

Air had surprisingly come to mind as soon as I finished watching Weathering With You, but in retrospect, I don't think this was without reason. Both gorgeously animated anime are about a traveling boy and a special girl who meet during the summertime; both the sky and family play a big part of the story; and there is a cute animal that occasionally shows up. It can be hard to further explain without spoiling, but it's safe to say that both anime are very emotional.
