In both anime there are: * Brutal worlds where characters have to kill to stay alive. * Revenge for the lost ones. * Beautiful visuals (same studio). So if you like the elements mentioned you should definitely check them out.

Looking for more angst-ridden protagonists that are out for revenge? Excellent, because these are two of the best. Both are about characters that have had something taken from them, and are out to get them back (Dororo) or get revenge (Both). Great action scenes, beautiful worlds, and enjoyable characters to follow. In both of these series, you often end up rooting for the side characters just as much if not more than the main characters. This is nothing against the main characters, but rather an applause of actual development of the supporting cast.

Both shows that are very serious, gritty and down to earth and based on somewhat classic manga series. Berserk in particular was a huge trend setter and has had a major influence on the 'dark fantasy' genre.

both are historical and has one purpose, in vinland saga the protagonist father killed by a viking on the other hand 91days his father killed by the mafia

Stories about revenge, as after a loss of parental figure the protagonist trains under the villain in order to be able to exact revenge on said villain, becoming extraordinarily physically strong in the process.

While Golden Kamuy is much more comedic (Vinland Saga has basically no comedy at all) they are both great adventure tales about burly men in the snow. If that sounds appealing to you, then either show will probably feel right at home on your completed list. They both have fantastic and interesting characters, and both feature lots of moments where you aren't quite sure who you should be cheering for. I found myself rooting for both the protagonists and antagonists in both series.

- Both focus on tragic cruelty of war - Both has the same serious/dark tone through out the whole story - Both the narrative is as good - Both focus on character development. - Both has good pay off moments - Both has a very human characters - Both leave cliff hangers at the end of each episode.

If you're looking for another action packed historical seinen with war and bloodshed revolving around royalty for the sake of land, power or ect, then look no further. Both of these series have likeable and distinguishable characters that stand out out from the rest for us to get attached to. Each have their own type of "OP" or stronger characters that clearly stand out from the rest of foot soldiers and make each of the battles so enjoyable to watch, vikings in the case of Vinland saga or war generals for Kingdom. So if you want to see some strong muscle boys duking it out  read more

These are two medieval war stories about politics, heritage, and beliefs. They have believable and distinct characters, most of which go through lots of character development throughout the story. They also both, unfortunately, do not yet have animated endings, as the source material is not finished. However, the journeys that are here are meaningful and enjoyable. Lots of well animated battles that feel impactful, as well as plenty of slice of life moments for contemplation.

Both anime's main point is showing the growth of characters, similiar to Vinland Saga. Both Rudeus and Thorfinn shows big character developments in the series, both mentally and physically.

The setting is European and the story is totally grounded to reality with no fantasy elements just like Vinland Saga. A 10/10 classic anime that is a must-watch for every anime fan.

A child soldier has no choice but to join a group of mercenaries led by someone involved in the death of their parent(s). Despite the grudge the protagonist ends up travelling with their very mortal enemies. For Jormungand it's gun dealers and for Vinland Saga it's Vikings.

Both have a medival badass rampaging around, they also both contain alot of blood and violence. Both are a good watch and share common links

-Both feature a group of rogues as main characters who don't shy away from hacking and slashing their way to victory -Both deal with the corruption and toppling of an empire -Both have the main character adapt to the atmosphere around them, and we see them stripped of their childlike innocence from the first few episodes

I enjoyed both of these series significantly. While Vinland Saga has countless differences from Demon Slayer, including genre (historical), violence level (far more violent than Demon Slayer), and protagonist personalities, one will likely enjoy both as: - both are shonen (to my knowledge) - both protagonists are talented in combat - both are motivated by their family relationships in the main plot. In Demon Slayer, the protagonist is motivated to save/work with his sister despite her inhuman nature, and Vinland Saga was born out of the protagonist's desire for revenge for his father. - There are quite a few combat scenes in both. - Both are newer shows, so they  read more

Both Thorfinn and Casval serve the murderers of their fathers, making a name for themselves as skilled merciless warriors on the battlefield in the hopes of an opportunity to take revenge upon their own leaders. Thorfinn lived humbly with under a caring father Thors, a Jomsviking war hero. We see his childhood as having fun, enjoying a naïve conception of fighting and war. They are forced to leave their life of peace and this impacts Thorfinn the most. Eventually, he joins Askeladd's band of Vikings to fight the Saxons, yet retaining his vengeful agenda. Casval, on the other hand was the son of a powerful political figure  read more

These are two shows that have lots of similar story elements and themes. Both are about people trying to survive and fight a war in a land that is not their home. Battles between armies, warships, sword-fights, and tactics. I would argue that everything Angolmois does, Vinland Saga does better, especially when it comes to characters, but both are still enjoyable if you are looking for a historical war series.

The theme of honor is quite frequent in both series, treated by warriors, both swordsmen and giant Vikings. Even the latter believe in the god Elbaf, whom they pray before the battles, in their own "little garden" arch.

-Both feature distinct and well defined characters -Both have a band of adventurers on a journey, though the Jojos have significantly less company -Both have settings based on the real world, though of course Jojo's is much more exaggerated than Vinland Saga's

Let me explain before you type l + ratio + bad recommendation. In both animes, the main character wishes to kill someone; Nagisa wishes to kill his teacher in order to prevent the end of the world, and Thorfinn wishes to kill the person who murders his father. But there's a catch: Nagisa's teacher is a monster capable of flying at speeds of up to Mach 20, and the person who murders Thorfinn's father is extremely powerful and experienced. Both anime have a distinct vibe, but that doesn't mean you'll only enjoy one of them.

-Both place a major emphasis on travel and exploring new places -Both also place major focus on politics, though Magi's kingdoms are fictional -Both focus on corruption, though Vinland Saga has a more direct approach to it -Both feature similar character development

• After watching Vinland Saga if you are carving for most realistic history drama set in Europe than watch Orb: On the moment of the earth. • Both the anime are quite philosophical and feels very real since both are inspired or loosely based on real life events. • Both the anime have similar vibe. The art and animation in both the anime is beautiful as well.

Now, before I start, let me put a disclaimer that the shows are inherently different. However, if you love the adrenaline-rushing fight scenes in AOT, I am positive that Vinland Saga will NOT let you down in those regards. Vinland Saga has superb animation and a deep message that lies underneath the badass fighting, tying in interesting perspectives on religion and what it means to be a "true warrior." Also, Vikings!

Lots of action, fighting, gore, language, sword fights, Thorfinn and Magen similar in attitude

I think if you like AoT you will also like Vinland Saga because you will get similar experience. The main character of each story wants revenge for the death of a family member. Both stories have lots of action and are well written and explore similar themes.

These are both dark anime that have some gore, both have great psychology ingrained in the story, both have heroes you can questions the morals of and villains you can question the morals of. Not saying the stories are similar, but both have characters that you can understand, rather than the generic shounen, "My mother has been killed, but the killer should just go to jail, no need to be drastic."
report Recommended by Wallodoom22
There is an undertone of romance in 86 that does not exist in vinland saga, however both animes have the ability to draw out pathos in its audience. You are not just invested in the storyline and plot, you become deeply invested in the characters, their backstories, their growth and ultimately their redemptions. Two really great animes.

Both are anime which revolve around a young, powerless protagonist who works hard and pushes themselves to greater strength. Both are very good anime for new watchers.

Note: There's a number of spoilers for Shingeki no Kyojin in this review, so if you haven't already finished SnK Season 3, I recommend you ignore this recommendation. Vinland Saga and Shingeki no Kyojin may look like different stories from the outside-SnK is a post-apocalyptic series set in a world where the last surviving humans hide behind massive walls from giant humanoid monsters called "Titans", while Vinland Saga is just about some Viking guy who wants to kill somebody, set in medieval times. But there's more to it than what meets the eye. Thorfinn is like Eren. A lighthearted little boy lives a happy life with his family  read more

Besides the fact that both series' names begin with a V, on the surface it doesn't look like there is a whole lot in common between these series on the surface. However, Thorfinn and Violet are strikingly similar characters, in many ways. They're so similar in fact, that I almost think that Violet is directly inspired by Thorfinn. This comparison will make a lot more sense when Vinland Saga season 2 comes out.

Both MC’s are subjected to experience some pretty sad shit. they are both based in a historical setting, focused around a revenge story of sorts. If you can handle its cgi, mind me it’s awful, then I would suggest trying it out. It’s just a mere 7 episodes overall so nothings stopping you. Ok, it has Cgi tiddies. 3D tiddies I’m talking about, god bless those fat milkers.

As different as they are, a lot of Tokyo Revengers reminded me of Vinland saga and I genuinely believe if you liked one, you will also enjoy the other. The two shows are action packed, drama heavy, pain(emotional/physical), fighting/violence, and blood(Vinland saga in seinen and TR is shounen). Both deal with heavy themes of rivalry and a boy trying to fix things. Thorfinn wants revenge for his father and Takemichi wants to prevent the deaths of his friends. The characters are OP and half the time, you're so engulfed in the fights, you forget why they are fighting. In a good way. Both constantly remind  read more

The hatred and rage one bares within them is not to be underestimated, all is known too well for the characters Lucy and Thorfinn. Both Vinland Saga and Elfen Lied give a story of someone whose life when they were younger tell them the horrible truth of the world and how it takes away from you or gives you the worst. The two grow up to become killing machines in their respective anime, sometimes being exploited when they are at an intense state of destruction. Not entirely similar but they're both action packed and show a strong dynamic relationship between male characters. Both anime are in my top favourite anime as the plots are amazing and show a clear structure. The main characters are strong and independent and work hard at surviving in completely different worlds. Banana Fish is set in New York, America around the 90's, whereas Vinland Saga is set during the Viking Era in England. Check both of them out if you haven't already done so

Epic characters, historical drama (VS being set in 11th century and LOTGH being heavily inspired by political and social history), mind numbing violence, realistic (flawed) characters, war and misery while being anti violence and anti-war. Political intrigue and military/battle tactics is an important feature in both shows (its one of the primary focus of LOTGH, but imo secondary in VS). There are so many things in VS that reminded me of LOTGH at a micro level. While VS lacks the scope, it has the same attention to detail and realism, similar themes regarding the human condition, the greed and senselessness of war, exploitation, discrimination,  read more

It's becoming rare to find series that respect their characters as much as these two do. They are believable, well written, enjoyable, and most importantly they are very human, full of flaws and room for growth. The stories themselves, while they do involve lots of travelling, differ quite a bit, though the mood is similar throughout. Excellent immersive world building, fantastic animation, and constantly engaging stories make these two excellent recommendations for any action/adventure fan.

They have similar themes like revenge for father by joining the killer. Each have their own good plot!

A different genre for sure, but if you liked the idea of character's choices heavily affecting their future, Vinland Saga and Fune wo Amu use this idea very effectively as a main plot device and make seeing the difference later on very amusing.

Mahmut and Thorfinn are shaped by the loss of a parent in battle/warfare, but their responses to this tragedy are different. Mahmut pursued strength and power to ensured peace for his country. He views war as something distasteful and the cause of his tragedy. Thorfinn pursued strength for vengeance against his father's killer. Altair and Vinland Saga are loved for their historical settings, political subplots, and engaging plots.

if you like the end of naruto(the war arc I mean) then you might like Vinland Saga, A whole anime about war. It has a lot of cool characters and a lot of characters with different opinions about life, killing and war. Vinland in my opinion has one of the best character development for the main character and the side character.

Vinland Saga follows Thorfinn in his revenge against Askeladd, growing along the way to get stronger and stronger. Dorohedoro follows strong fighter Kaiman in his journey to take back his head and find out more of who dwells within his body. Both are good anime featuring the same amount of action on every detail.
