Hello! Thanks for accepting my request! ^^ Mystery and psychological are also my favourite genres. And I love BL too~

Hey! No worries - I'm not on MAL as often either anymore. Yes the story did take a drastic but outstanding turn :). As a manga fan first, I remember being confused when the farm arc started but eventually it clicked (around the time when Thorfinn realized that violence should not be the answer) that this story was about his development and learning lessons through his lens on life (although Canute's change into being more like the father he disliked is interesting as well). Yeah, I really liked it. Einar is a good partner in crime for Thorfinn, and I like how Thorfinn and Canute both do a 180 and become the opposite (Thorfinn went from more violent to more peaceful, and Canute went from more peaceful to more violent.) However, I do think that Canute's and Thorfinn's conversation / meeting was important and had a strong impact on Canute. Overall I really enjoyed season 2, and the only *super minor* thing was that the manga was more scary than the anime - King Sweyn's dead head was terrifying in the manga. Maybe it was because I didn't expect it in a first experience but did in my anime experience? Did it scare you lol?

Also, did you watch Hell's Paradise too? What did you think of it?

Edit: Oh my gosh I just realized you sent this message on June 13th not June 30th! Sorry for the really long delay!

Hey hey! Hope you're doing well :). I'm actually watching seasonal anime for once, and I see that we are both watching Vinland Saga season 2! How do you like it so far?

Hey there! Seems like I was the one taking a lot of time to replay this time, sorry about that! Hope you've had a great time traveling and meeting up with friends, seems both stressful but also very nice :) My past few weeks have been as full as they've never been, but I am grateful for having my first day off of any obligations regarding uni, work and my studyproject. But dude, I'm so very grateful for you taking your precious time and giving me such well rounded recommendations! I'm sure this was a process that took some effort, so thanks for that! I will definitely check all of them out. I think I'll probably start with Serial Experiments Lain, but I am honestly fascinated with how much you seem to love Mononoke. I've come across it's cover quite often and never really thought much about it, other than knowing that a few people who are really into "underground" shows hold it in very high regards. Guess this is the time to watch it aswell!

In the last few weeks the only notable things I've watched and read was Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! or The Eminence in Shadow which was really hilarious and so on the nose cringey op main character with chuuniybou syndrome that it kind of got me hooked in the beginning, lost me towards the first half of the middle but I am so glad that I continued watching! It seems so selfaware that the cringe got me actually laughing pretty good with a little bitter note of knowing that people may take this MC seriously and idolize him like some kind of Patrick Bateman from American Psycho (sigma male grindset). And while I was in Prague for a concert of my favorite band I've read Jigokuraku or Hell's Paradise which was really tropey but with some really good character writing and this fascinating mix of very beautiful scenery and symbolism but mixing it with an eeriness that was very captivating. But thanks again for writing these reviews, will definitely work on it when I find myself craving something to get invested into! Hope your april has been good so far and hope to hear soon. ♥

Thanks for describing your thoughts on the Chainsaw Man manga :) I can totally understand your criticism, and sometimes I feel like my opinion on the mangaka is a little biased by public opinion, nevertheless I agree with you on him taking risks with a very stale genre that most of the time pay off for me, but sometimes they do not.

I still haven't started reading after it the first season has ended and I am unsure of whether or not I can just jump in because it has been some time since I've read. Maybe I'm gonna watch a comprehensive yet detailed video recollecting all of the things that happened so I don't feel lost with certain details.

And I'm really happy to hear that your start of the year has been good! Mine has been so&so, but mostly because of habits and patters I started to recognise and am trying to change, which of course takes time. But I'm a little impatient on that note so let's see where this journey brings me :) I haven't been watching that much anime recently as well, but your list is a great source of inspiration to me. Just watched Perfect Blue since I was in the mood for an older movie and you had a pretty high score for it, and maan! I must say, it made me doubt my own reality for almost an hour after having watched it. Little anxious about how everything is perspective and still not really sure what's been really happening in the "movie/actress" side of the story and what was actually a psychological murder drama. But the way it picked up the pace in the second half really got to me!

Do you have anything else you'd recommend me to watch/read? Hope you have a good week ♥

It's totally fine, as you can see I didn't log into my account here since I haven't really watched anything recently. Just finished Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and I have to say that I don't really get why people are all over it. But topic for another day :D And have you started reading the Chainsaw Man manga yet? Would also love to hear your thoughts about it! To be honest there are not many memories attached to it, can't even seem to recollect how it ended but I think it was a blast?

Summertime Render only has similarities about the mechanics of the MCs power, but other than that it is kind of an original. And I totally understand why you didn't like Re:Zero. At the time of it airing, me being the edgy juvenile that I was, I thought it was pretty intelligently written in it's dialogue and last year I just felt like catching up with the second season. That's a problem for me oftentimes with anime, that I really enjoy it as soon as I finish it, but like one year later my opinion kind of drops, at which I'm too lazy to reevaluate the shows :D

And yes! Sonny Boy hooked me in with it's artstyle and it was a really enjoyable watch! But in the end I think you're right. It has a really nice vibe of surrealistic fantasy yet also some "I'm 14 and this is deep" vibes. Like it wasn't actually saying all that much, but looked and felt cool anyways.

Now and then, here and there was on my watchlist for way too long and when I was stuck with Corona over christmas, I've decided to watch it. To be fair from all the fever dreams, I'm not sure if I can give it an honest rating but yeah, main character has this amazing ability to live through traumatic after traumatic experience, without having any setbacks or anything. And the biggest buzzkill for me was when the girl that was mistaken for Lala Ru got r***d by the army guy, impregnetated and then gaslit into keeping the child by the motherfigure in the city this crazy king wanted to annihilate. So in essence way too simplistic in a world which could have had a really nice amount of politics and generally any explanations. I mean space humans on an unidentified planet somewhere.. Would have really loved to have seen how everything got to where they were.

Just checked my profile and when I think about it, I really don't understand why I gave it a 9 lol. Hope you've had a great start of the year though! And dw, answer if and when you want to c: ♥

I really liked the Chainsaw Man manga, it was a work where I did really understand why the mangaka is being handled as one of the top dogs of our current time. It definitely handles stuff differently than others of its genre and even though I'd have to admit that I don't quite remember how it ended, I for sure know it went out with a bang.

Guess I will have to start with the HxH manga too now lol. Just hope he's doing okay now and not overwork himself that much. Same for me though about Cyberpunk, I kind of get the theme of the second half being about how the city always wins and every individual always loses, but the first half had a different kind of charme. Summertime Render is one of those series to me that is really really bingeworthy, the mystery and suspense is definitely the biggest part of it that kept me going and at some point I just wanted to see how they wrapped it all up. Not my favorite ending but it's definitely worthwhile! It's like Re:Zero with it's mechanic of the MC to be unkillable, but he always gets transportet back in time a little later, so there's a different kind of suspense about that. And yeah, the ending of Lycoris wasn't picking up any of the shards it broke from itself. Even though I don't know how I was able to binge it that much anyways, must have got me on some levels. :^)

No problem! Taking stuff for irl stuff is way more important. I've read the Manga for Chainsaw Man and am up to date with Spy x Families releases andI would definitely say that they excel in their own regards! And really nice that you read HxH, I would actually wanna start it too but I don't think I have it in me to start from ch. 1 :D As of late I've only watched Summertime Render and Cyberpunk Edgerunners and Lycoris Recoil. The first 2 I'd recommend but Lycoris felt really annoying at times and had heavy feel bait imo.

Aah, no problems! And thanks for the kind words :) It was a manga i read since it released chapter one and it was the first manga where I've seen very unstereotypical representation of queer people, which really helped me through my youth! Most of the things I have rated are from when I was like 17 so maybe I look at it through pink colored glasses, nontheless a really good read! Anything you've been enjoying of late?

that's totally true! art pop is just as versatile as any other genre, def makes u feel lots of emotions, depending on the song ofc. & no omg i've never heard of them! great name tho LOL. greatest hits is TRANSCENDENT i love the backing track omg <3 the vocals are so dreamy, too! how lovely ^_^ thank u for the rec, i will have to check out the rest of their artpop album!

and absolutely, yeah. i know it's a huge, classic anime now but it's such a quiet & unassuming story filled with moments of poignancy. everyone's arc was so well-written and made perfect sense for their characters. spike is probably one of the most interesting characters i've come across so far... he seems so carefree but that's actually the complete opposite of the truth, he's just intensely focused on one thing. i really related to that and that's why the ending was so bittersweet. like you got what you wanted but at what cost... you're gonna carry that weight. sigh! just such an amazing show all-in-all.

and yep, for sure! vinland had an incredible story that was also very poignant and melancholic. i seem to be drawn to those types of stories lately LOL but it was a ride, for sure. hope season 2 lives up to the hype <3

but yeah idk! i'll prob watch pop team epic season 2 but idk abt anything else... have any of the seasonal anime caught your eye?
todiefor Oct 5, 2022 3:14 AM
YEAH for sure! that's honestly the best part of music is that there's smth for everybody, even people who only ever listen to what's on the radio. obviously there's TONS of more interesting musicians and genres and things to experience thru music out there, and we as people are just so lucky that we get the chance to find those for ourselves and figure our what we like! music is universal <3 but you're exactly right abt art pop tbh. it's just such a special genre and honestly it really puts me at ease? it's lovely.

but yea ofc! dude the colorsssss in bebop were astounding. anytime they had like a horizon at sunset/sunrise or smth i lost my shit tbh LOL absolutely gorgeous show. dude i won't lie, i was pretty weepy with the last few episodes (especially when ed and ein left the crew T_T) but the last episode was INSANE. "you're gonna carry that weight" is probably the most poignant phrase they could've used for that episode's summation, honestly. just... WOW.

AND YESSS!! vinland was wonderful! i honestly don't even really know how to describe my feelings about it because what can i really say other than that it was just incredible, y'know? THAT ENDING TOO... WAS WILD. i can't wait for season 2 omg (ALSO amazing op/ed combos)
