Both are emotional stories with great characters and a lot of thrilling character development.
While both are in vastly different worlds, both are very well developed and lived in. Side characters who normally wouldn't be memorable are and the soundtracks for both are iconic. Both protagonists go through some sort of pain and are accompanied by violent people who you still love and have depth. However, unlike other darker shows, they both still don't glorify violence and have an ultimate theme condemning said violence. Also, the animation for both is fantastic.
