Anime where high school girls go on adventures. -Yurucamp is more lighthearted and funny, and it focuses on camping and adventures within Japan (especially in the prefectures near Mount Fuji). Also it has more of a focus on cooking. -Yorimoi, however, is more serious and dramatic as it involves high school girls risking their lives trying to reach Antarctica.

Similar moods, good character chemistry, and both are generally quite jolly with a sprinkling of sadness. While the characters in K-On are certainly less focused on a specific goal, both series show character development, growth, and meaningful/believable relationships between them.

While these two anime are about two totally different things, they are also fundamentally very similar. They are both what I would call a true "adventure" anime. Where the anime is about setting off on a journey to go somewhere important to them, they are both excellent and highly regarded anime.

These shows are both about people trying to get to a specific destination (the moon and antarctica). They go into great detail to show the struggles and hardships required to achieve these dreams. The characters are very fleshed out and enjoyable to follow. They both leave you with a feeling of wanderlust, and a desire to better yourself. these are some of the most motivating shows I've seen. Watch either if you are in a slump and need some encouragement.

The way the relationship between the characters is built is very similar. The mood of the story is also very similar, from the drama to the lighter parts.

Both Sound! Euphonium and A Place Further Than The Universe seem to be typical cute-girl slice-of-life shows on the surface, but in reality they are heart-felt coming of age stories that go well beyond slice of life anime (not that there is anything wrong with that genre). If you look closely, you'll notice that neither of these anime actually have the "Slice of Life" genre tag listed for them on MAL. Both are about reaching for a goal which first seems unreachable: turning around a school's concert band program to be the best in the country, and being part of an expedition to Antarctica.

Both series are largely about dealing with the loss of a loved one in various ways. They are about the main characters discovering who they are and what they want to do in this world. These stories are heartwarming and heartbreaking. The characters are great, and the adventures they go on motivate you to get out and do something with your life. I enjoyed both greatly for largely similar reasons, mostly the atmosphere, the stories, and the characters.

Done by the same animation studio and while that doesn't really mean much the two anime still share a lot of other common factors, such as the slice of life atmosphere and the theme about challenging yourself by following your dreams even when they seem impossible to others.

Both series focus on high school-aged girls working together to achieve an seemingly impossible task and feature very strong soundtracks.

here between Hanasaku Iroha and Sora yori mo Tooi Basho, Kimari and Ohana face brand new challenges. While Ohana was not looking for them necessarily, both girls harness their inner energy and cheerfulness to try and tackle the daunting tasks in front of them. Friendship is more present than ever as Ohana and Kimari absolutely have to not only make and keep these new friends but rely on them heavily. Ohana did not choose this journey like Kimari did, but they do both face it head on. This anime is one from P.A. Works that you cannot miss!

Not only are both about cute girls doing cute things, they are also about discovering something you're passionate about and overcoming the fear of taking the first step forward. Both Koguma and Mari initially have little meaning in their lives, but once they take that step forward, the world opens up to them. While Sora Yori is a bit more comedic, both have dramatic elements that keep you invested and cozy moments that make you feel warm and fuzzy.

I felt Shirobako was the closest anime I've seen that felt tonally similar to A Place Further Than the Universe. All girl main cast, striving towards a goal, primarily dramatic, but has lighthearted jokes throughout the entire thing.
report Recommended by LoveIsAbyss
Both are slice of life shows with well developed, realistic characters, and both involve friendship helping to deal with the loss of a loved one.

a coming-of-age story about cute girls trying to achieve their dreams

Simply put they both heal your heart. Perfect for when you want something wholesome with a good plot.

Both shows involve a protagonist with a lofty goal, and the group of people she ropes in to help make the dream a reality. The series' revolve around how they can achieve and realize the goal, along with the antics the groups get into along the way. They both have a sense of adventure (though Sora yori more so) and and have theme of youthful hope and achievement.
report Recommended by DrowningEel
Both, Sora yori and Idolish7 may seem as simple and forgettable shows of characters doing cute things, but in reality, both are fantastic stories with memorable characters, a well-handled balance between drama and comedy to tell the stories behind every character, and their motivations to do what they do. They are really two of the shows that impressed me the most in this industry.

Two groups of 4 girls on a long trip. While these two anime don't share much in common, they provide the audience with some stunning visuals and an adventurous atmosphere, protagonized by cute, charming girls.

A group of 4 different young girls aspiring to achieve their dreams by working together to do so

Shows with predominantly female casts in which the lead characters aspire to do something unusual or bold out of a desire to "shine" or stand out from the norm.

Both involves shoujo whom were out on a journey of discovery, both also have that discovery which would prove to be an uncertainty.
report Recommended by Whoahoho
The main casts of Sakura Quest and Yorimoi are similar in that they are young women who meet and quickly bond by working together and overcoming hardships. But these shows are more than "cute girls doing cute things" - they inspire an appreciation for everyday life and a desire to try new things. Kimari and Yoshino both yearn to do something meaningful with their lives, and gain a new perspective through making new friends and having new experiences.
report Recommended by Neko-Hoshishima
Group of friends, outdoors, comedy and adventures, very similar both anime but with different atmosphere. They certainly convey the same feeling of tranquility and you have the same essence

Group of four girls struggling against near-impossible odds, with equal parts cute moments and feels.

These two shows make me think about what it means to live a meaningful life, to prevent myself from wasting it, and to appreciate the people around me. The characters go through relatable struggles, they strive for what was missing in their life previously (breaking free from fear and uncertainty to go on an adventure, in the case of Mari, and making human connections, in the case of Haruki). These yearnings (whether the characters realize them or not) hit close-to-home for me, and they are some of the most inspiring stories I've seen, so I'd highly recommend both of these shows.
report Recommended by SAniyoukoso
They are both character driven, and mainly girls in the cast. They both center around friends helping eachother reaching a goal and overcoming obstacles together.
report Recommended by Aurakin
Both of these shows have similar moods, character chemistry, and mood. They have their fair share of jolly and goofy moments, but aren't afraid to get a bit serious at times. K-On is less focused on characters achieving a specific goal, but both are clearly more about the journey than the destination. Character dynamics are believable and often relatable.
report Recommended by Xaeveax
Both series focus on themes of family, friendship, and finding the joy in our lives.

Both stories shows the journey of young girls that go in the adventure of reaching their dreams, no matter the risks and hardship they would face. They both give this feeling that everything is possible if you put your mind to it and work hard to succeed.

Both of these series involve four ordinary girls going on an adventure/quest together.

Though the subject of each anime is completely different, they both are a tale of random people achieving great things, things they never dreamed of doing, things that inspire. Both anime are a lesson of how ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things. They are about a journey of a lifetime.

Both have Character Development, Teens going through Puberty and Friendship problems. I would highly recommend this for those who are new to watching anime or for the people love to watch Slice of Life anime!

Although these two animes are very different on surface, both protagonists are on a journey with a somewhat similar ending.

They're both anime from Madhouse, where the inherent message in both is that it's not too late to do something in life and that it's important to move from one's comfort zone.
report Recommended by eblf2013
Both are anime that let me in awe on how drama is developed in the series. The characters, albeit a bit sterotyped, feel realistic and human, especially their struggles and moments of joy. Not to tell both are excellent coming of age stories featuring a protagonist who initially had no ambition who turn into a passionate person by the end.
report Recommended by eblf2013
A girl who wants to achieve her dream despite of being disparaged, that's the main concept of both shows. If you're interested about their journey, all of their struggles, their endeavor to make sure their dreams be achieved, I recommend it.
report Recommended by KatsumiNV
Both shows involves a group of friends on an adventure out in the world. Extremely wholesome and heartwarming.

Planetes captures the feeling of longing for the Space similarly well as Sora Yori does with Antarctic.

Characters coping with loss and trying to find their path into the future: these are two of the main points these two anime deal with. Having a similar cast of characters, both Sora yori mo Tooi Basho and Tari Tari are bound to make its audience laugh and cry, while providing them some beautiful visuals, great soundtrack and, most importantly, an emotionally deep story.

Very similar feeling and atmosphere to both shows. Both are more plot driven "cute girl" shows.

Shouldering a very heavy responsibility - the fate of the world - and the emotional trauma that can come from that. Being different from the other children, and not necessarily in a good way; and how their newfound powers can affect the people around them. These are some of the themes explored in both works. Moreover, they also explore the fundementals of human

Both feature a high school girl who is overly passionate about something and dragging her friends along.

Both have the chill and relax vibe Both have very pretty and therapeutic visuals Both are about a journey and exploration; Sora Yori explores the real world as tourists, while Somali explores its own version of Wonderland Both have a tad of a dark reason that kickstarts their adventure, yet not have the story surrounds itself on said dark reason

Both have heartwhelming stories with beautfiul animation and cute girls as main characters. If you liked Akebi-chan's Sailor Uniform, you will love A Place Further Then The Universe. The story is more mature and it's in someway extrremely relatable.

The type of the anime is the same. Also the main characters in the story will have their own problem. The event of viewing and solving problems are touching.

Yama no Susume has the outdoors theme, cute girls and a theme of overcoming indecision/maturing as a person/seishun suru! - the character relationships and characters themselves are less deep or complex but it's very enjoyable.

Both animes feature a friend group of cute school girls and bring you into a good, wholesome mood. Also they both deal with one girl having lost her mother in the past and now wandering in her path a bit and exploring for themselves what has been their mothers passion.

I'm quite puzzled that everyone is giving just default "cute" slices in recommendations. Unlike all previous seasons this one doesn't feature a lot of cuteness and mountains, it features more actual slice of life and some character development as well as development of interactions between characters - which is what it makes probably the closest series to Sora Yori mo Tooi Basho.
report Recommended by Vizvezdenec
In Hakumei to Mikochi is two girl and in Sora Yori it is four girls, but they all spend their time in ways that are meaningful to their life and both, I believe, are great iyashikei anime.

Both shows deal with girls traveling to an extreme environment.

Both series are about empowering highschool age girls to achieve their goals in fields not usually conquered by highschool age girls. The girls in both series have similar motivations - Both series best girls have something to prove. They want to prove the world around them wrong and show that a girl of their age can and will do something that the world said they couldn't.

To put it simply, both are show which tells the journey to achieve dream / ambition of main charas and how they overcome the problems that prevent they to achieve what they want (Moritaka and Takagi a.k.a Ashirogi Muto in Bakuman. and the four Girls in YoriMoi) Both have great drama, good comedies, Realistic Main Characters, and the storyline that become more interesting the more u watch it If you like this type of show, i'm sure you'll love both show

not similar in art style or characters or story or even music the only thing that i see is similar with is that both of them are slice-of-life shows involving similar themes of self-discovery and self-challenge witch is it for me something rare to see in an anime's in this time

Similarities: Both are about girls finding their own ways of coping with the death of a parent. Both give you room to appreciate the small beautiful things in life. Differences: Sorayori is more melancholic and less fluffy (mono no aware). Tamayura ~hitotose~ has a coherent philosophy of kindness at the heart of it which had a big impact on my life. While Sorayori tackles the feeling of feeling lost in life I don't think that it presents a (simple) philosophy as impactful as that which Tamayura ~hitotose~ radiates in every fiber of its existence. Both series, taking place in a snow-covered enviornment, focus on a group of characters helping each other with their personal issues and traumas. Kanon includes harem-esque aspects and has strong elements of the supernatural, while Yorimoi remains realistic and is more of a dramatic slice-of-life.
report Recommended by RiverSorcerer
Both series focus on young people, tackling grief and other issues in their lives, facing great odds to achieve their success, accentuated with beautiful visuals and emotional soundtracks.

Tonally very similar shows. There are goofs, gaffs, dramas and tears. Ultimately they are both optimistic. Sakura has more focused on romance and on the themes of purpose whereas yorimoi is more on friendship and breaking out of your shell.
report Recommended by PoLoBreak
Both are slice of life shows that have concepts which implicitly relate to themes of existentialism.

This work really reminds me of Angel Beats!'s spirit. Although the plot has nothing to do, the kind of humour is quite similar (crazy, but not absurd). The characters are very charismatic and they have their own little trouble. Also, once in a while, this piece offers you some sad and dramatic moments.
report Recommended by DHancock
Lots of self exploration and finding oneself. Cute girls doing cute things. Music score is fantastic and feels are there.
report Recommended by BestTofu
Both series center around exciting adventures in the antarctic and both are very wholesome. Just that "A place further than the universe" explores the exciting as well as exhausting aspects of a journey, yet Doremon on the other hand is your usual "Doraemon" theme, and it's great!

Both have the MC exploring the world Both have beautiful art Both have the MC wanting to achieve something Both have amazing supporting characters Conclusion: if you like the feel of well concluded story combined with awesome art, this is the anime for you.

Both shows give you a very similar feeling at heart. They give you a really warm-hearted adventure with struggles along the way. Both have a very similar underlying plot laced in Dr Stone ep 17 and Sora Yori ep 12. They both hit just as hard and deserved to be watched by people who love Dr Stone and people who love Sora Yori alike.
report Recommended by Rimzyy
Both of these anime are very well made with good animation character design and sound. Both have a high ranking on MAL. And last but not least, both are extremely boring and seems to just go on and on. Some people seem to like that so if you are one of thoses these are for you.
report Recommended by Hbarca
Both feature comming of age tales brilliantly and creatively mixing elements of tragedy, drama, hardship, and comedy on a very spiritual journey.
report Recommended by MontuBGTB
Both focus on a group of high-schoolers who work together to reach a goal deemed impossible by peers. Robotics;Notes does not have as much character drama, but drama still exists. Akiho (the female lead of Robotics;Notes) bears many similarities in personality to both Kimari and Shirase. Sora yori mo Tooi Basho was a little disappointing with its pacing. Robotics;Notes is paced better, and its longer runtime allows it to have a more complex plot that I personally enjoyed. Also, FYI, Robotics;Notes is related to Steins;Gate but so loosely that your Steins;Gate watch status is not important.

I feel like one thing that Madhouse took from Hunter X Hunter is that the story isn't about the destination but the journey. Because that principale shows in Sora yori mo Tooi Basho and it shows really well.

Both shows feature almost completely female casts who fight against all odds to achieve their dream. Gunbuster's lead character, Noriko, has the same types of goals and ambitions as the girls in A Place Further Than the Universe. Rather than going to Antarctica, however, Noriko is training to be a mecha pilot in space. Gunbuster deals with more adult themes, but the two shows seem very spiritually connected.

Very similar structure: A Place Further than the Universe looks at the journey of 4 teenage girls making the most of their lives by doing something they collectively want to do (go on an Antarctic Expedition). It's a wholesome slice of life that shows the audience it's okay to do something on a whim and make the most of your adolescence. Love Live! Superstar!! focuses on 5 girls who come together under one unified hobby (to be the best school idols and make a name for themselves through their love for music, performance, dance, etc).
