These two shows make me think about what it means to live a meaningful life, to prevent myself from wasting it, and to appreciate the people around me. The characters go through relatable struggles, they strive for what was missing in their life previously (breaking free from fear and uncertainty to go on an adventure, in the case of Mari, and making human connections, in the case of Haruki). These yearnings (whether the characters realize them or not) hit close-to-home for me, and they are some of the most inspiring stories I've seen, so I'd highly recommend both of these shows.
