Both stories involve a friendship between a kind-hearted human and an innocent fish (taking on the appearance of a human). Ponyo is about an innocent love between two children, where Tsuritama is about creating friendships and working hard to understand each other.

These movies share a similar plot in a sense of boy meets mermaid and magical endeavors ensue. Ponyo and Lu over the wall are two very differently stylized movies respectively. If you enjoyed Ponyo and want to see a different approach to boy meets mermaid with added musical elements I would recommend Lu over the wall.

both from Mizayaki Hayao's Ghibli Studio, both story & art have warm and 'cuteness', ah, I just think anyone who love one of these will love the other,,

Same director. Both are visually stunning and have a distinct Gibli, magical quality to them.

Relationship between a human boy and non-human girl, involving one of them turning into a fish. Both movies have amazing visuals.

Both films are similar in themes of unlikely love, characters from different worlds meeting in love in conflict, and similar character design.

Howl's Moving Castle is much more interesting than Ponyo, especially the plot, but the drawing style is the same. Also, they are similar in gender.

These shows are similar in that they portray a kind of romance story (in a very innocent way). Both shows feature a girl transforming into a different species to get closer to someone, and they face a choice of choosing which species they prefer to stay as..Amazing fantasy world designs, sometimes 'creepy' or 'scary' vibes and they share similarities in the parents section as well.

Both are directed by Hayao Miyazaki and from Studio Ghibli. Lovable characters and great art. A girl chasing her dreams, with lots of adventure! If you like one, you'll definitely like the other.

Both stories about little kids and their adventures with the sea.

I'd recommend Ponyo more than Deji Meets Girl, but if stories revolving around weird people having water powers are to your interest, I'd give both a go. They have the drama and "magic" necessary and encaptivate an adventure-type story well enough to make it feel as if you too are riding this wave. Or so I'd hope.

Both are movies where a duo chooses the regular over the extraordinary with a theme of environmentalism. Ponyo is more lighthearted as it is more geared towards younger viewers

Wolf Children and Ponyo are alike with both having the theme of a parent left with the responsibility of caring for two young children.

it's just like ponyo but in 5 mins.

Both One Piece and Ponyo have: * A setting that’s mostly the ocean * Friendship themes * Fish people * Main male characters with disappeared dads * Red-haired female leads * Supernatural elements * And dramatic scenes

"Ghibli vibe". That's all really. I suppose the two connecting factors with the anime are the entanglement of the normal world and the preternatural world. With characters from the two worlds colliding to come forward to a cause they believe is in their best interest. Both anime also contains a duo consisting of a guy going through, usually, any means to support his female friend. A nice kind of teamwork. Ghibli movies. If the name doesn't do anything, I don't know what will. Fun with the family.

Literal "fish out of water." Anklet to Aoi Umi and Gake no Ue no Ponyo are films that depict the power and beauty of the ocean; they're like the gender swapped versions of each other. In Ponyo, a goldfish morphs into a little girl to interact with a little boy whereas in the short film Anklet to Aoi Umi, a whale turns into a boy to save a little girl.

i feel like the connection between the two is pretty obvious, guy meets girl, said girl also happens to not be a normal girl and the reason why has something to do with water and also they fall in love because of course they do i'd recommend Bubble if you're in a mood for action but if you're in a mood for something more relaxing then i'd recommend Ponyo, just expect to see alot of water in both

The ocean doing some weird, bizarre, and unnatural things in the background while the story primarily focuses on the great adventure towards the discovery of a young girl in the world she lives in.

The human protagonists befriend magical creatures.

all of miyizakis fantasy work is very similar to mushishi, aswell as the natsume yuujinchou series. Also if youve already seen the above mentioned then i would also watch both seasons of moyashimon, its got a very similar wabisabi effect based around simplicity and the mysterious beyond.

Hinata no Aoshigure plays off of the same child like whimsy that carries the charm in Ponyo. Strong imaginative visuals and childlike wonder are heavy themes in these movies and if you enjoyed Ponyo, Hinata no Aoshigure is worth the watch.

Both story about the adventure and friendships of the main characters, with a lighthearted plot that will warm anyones heart.

Very similar in their core plot points, but very different in execution.

They have very similar elements and themes; a young magical girl, an adolescent love, a seaside fishing community and how a disaster that struck that community was magically resolved.

Both are very kawaii and directed by the famous Hayao Miyazaki. Castle in the Sky and Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea both have that classical feel and same art style with the two lead characters as a boy and a girl. Ponyo by the Cliff by the Sea is a bit more on the childish side, while Castle in the Sky has a deeper meaning and story.

Same as kappa, this story is adventurous. I you like a magical creature adventure, like Kappa *well aside kappa being a demon God* You might love Ponyo x3

Ponyo consists in a plot aimed at a younger audience while Nagi no Asukara's targets the older, but both display some similarities: - Beautiful sceneries and unique animation. - The heroine is from the sea and is in love with a human. The story takes place when she is fished by the human boy. - There is a kingdom underwater where mystical beings live like a god/goddess who are able to cast curses. While Ponyo focuses on friendship, fantasy and adventure, NnA centers itself in a love polygon and is able to give more depth to the characters. If you liked one and enjoy the theme  read more

I don't know how to explain, but the feelings after you watched these movies are somehow resemble each other, so... I'm sure it won't be just a waste of time, if you'll watch it. Actually, The Cat Returns is more interesting.

This may just be IMO but... there ARE some similarities. The endings are different (obviously) but, if you look at it like this, IMO, you will see the similarities Sousuke- May Ponyo- Manaphy Fujimoto- Pokemon Ranger Jackie Walker So... yeah... do whatever you want

Both are about a guy who fishes out/finds a mermaid who immediately falls in love with hime. While Namiuchigiwa no Muromi-san is more comedy, Ponyo Ponyo on the Cliff by the See is more fairy tale.
report Recommended by abystoma2
1. It has the same innocent child-like feel to it. 2. Filled with strange creatures.
report Recommended by RedvelvetDaisuki
Both stories revolve around water.
report Recommended by Hstar
Both feature idilic locales of a seaside town. And a magical person of ancient lineage who wants to follow their own path against the wishes of their mentor, and that person being influenced and changed by the experiences of a normal, mortal life. The visuals, especially the magical effects, are a sight to behold in both.
report Recommended by okurokichoki
Both are very cute anime movies, great for children but also enjoyable for adults. They are heartwarming, with great art. Major difference is that Leafie IS SO EMOTIONAL. If you want a good type of cry, watch Leafie.
