I'd recommend Ponyo more than Deji Meets Girl, but if stories revolving around weird people having water powers are to your interest, I'd give both a go.
They have the drama and "magic" necessary and encaptivate an adventure-type story well enough to make it feel as if you too are riding this wave. Or so I'd hope.
