Another anime series where two top students constantly bicker and compete to be the best. It's also similar in the way that they're surrounded by a group of friends who are quirky and fun, mostly to offset the tension between the two main characters.

both main characters are academic rivals and boy seems to be a natural in terms of looks and brains while the girls works hard to get where she is. Kare Kano like Kaichou wa Maid-sam is a must watch.
report Recommended by Mwu
The main girl's secret life is revealed to the main boy, as they develop a relationship over time. Other relationships around them develop between the supporting cast, while they each deal with varying levels of trauma. Said supporting cast is very lively, balancing the sad vibes with their happiness.

How do you compare a mecha and a school romance? It's quite easy to do when they both have the same director ;) . I always viewed "Kare Kano" as a companion piece to "Neon Genesis Evangelion", and I'm sure there are many who agree with me. Both should be watched to really get into the head of one of the best anime directors of our era, Hideaki Anno. While "Neon Genesis Evangelion" slowly and steadily broke down and finally destroyed it's characters, "Kare Kano" starts with some broken and empty people, and truly brings them up. It slowly raises up these oh so  read more

The main character is also a female student, whole initially has a rough start with the male lead.

Kare Kano begins with two characters who don't realize that they have fallen for each other. As the series develops, the characters learn, grow, and come to accept themselves (and each other) just as they are. The theme of character growth is similarly laid out in Kimi ni Todoke.
report Recommended by chisaki
They both have comedy and the school life setting. Also there's a pair (Miyazawa and Arima) who are against eachother in the beginning but end up falling for one another.

both of these shows are really artsy and deep and have a nice plot

They're both shoujo titles which possess a very believable romantic theme between It's two leading protagonists. Also, similar jokes and animation are used throughout both series which denote how similar these two titles really are.

The plots of both anime series are quite similar. Two high school students compete to be top in their class, while learning more about each other and slowly growing into falling in love. Both series also feature prideful and stubborn main characters, who are admired by the rest of the student body. They can be charmingly dorky in certain situations, though. While His and Her Circumstances is an older uncompleted animated series, the manga will is worth a try.

Similarities: The highly ambitious girl meets the genius and slowly falls in love with him after his confession, while rivaling for 1st place in grades. Differences: Kaibutsu-kun's genius is a rowdy in stead of a calm everybody's darling.

Both have great characters and story, each keeps you wanting for more. watching those series made me read the manga of each because both don't really "end" where they should. even if they are shojo i recommend them to anyone

old school cliched predictable storylines. overly confident/energetic female protagonists, turning to hate male protagonist. some character development, and romance. comedy slice of lifes, with similar humour (slap stick kind).
report Recommended by sugarplumfairy
Both have conceited main character's who are completely different people at home and inside school. At home they have their selfish side while at school they are Mrs. Popularity.

Also about a group of friends in high school dealing with love, family, growing up, and other changes adolescence brings.

Hideaki Asaba a man who's background grows roses and who loves entertaining ladies... and who we love to laugh at. If you liked this character from His and Her Circumstances, You will love Ouran a show filled with " rich young men with way to much time on their hands who entertain beautiful young giels who also have too much time." His and Her Circumstances is a light Romance, Slice of Life, Drama and Ouran is Comedy Parody, they still have this in common!

1- Both couples has two Character.. one at school, one at home.. and no one know about it.. or in another word: they are hiding their true selves.. 2- The comedy, romance, peaceful style. with some little problems they help each other on it.. 3- The story is Better than the Art.. 4- The girl is kind of strong, tsundere. and the boy is calm, shy, and cool.

Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou is most likely one of the inspirasons to Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji they have many simmuler trades, and if you have seen one you are sure to remeber simuleretis from the other one

There are very creative visual gags and overall good direction, similar to Karekano. If you appreciated this aspect of Karekano and are not turned off by the idea of a 4 girls cringe comedy focused on single character narrative, you will probably really enjoy this show.

Both these anime's compose of different characters involving their different sets of love stories. Both anime's have high school characters as well going to the very same school, at least majority does. These anime's are thirst quenchers for those romance-themed anime seekers.

Both KareKano and Hana Yori Dango focus mostly on the life of a group of high school students. UNLIKE ALL the general drama/comedy anime, in both Karekano and Hana Y Dango we are shown the troubles DURING the relationships, instead of watching a bunch of guys racing in circles troughout an ENTIRE season of episodes just so they can wind up the same as they started: STILL not dating, STILL no development, STILL chacing eachother! Both bring the feelings of the characters to us in a heartful way. It lets your heart into their. In both animes the main character is a simple girl with great character and  read more

While KareKano has much deeper character depth that will satisfy anime veterans, Sukitte iina yo is more on the cutesy side and brings nothing new, but it's fairly well exexuted, and felt good even for a veteran like me. Both do a rare feat in anime. Follow an actual developing relationship, and focus on the characters, instead of wasting the viewer's time with the same old "we love eachother and we know it but we need to make up crap to keep us appart or there's no plot".

Overall comperable approach to the interior monologue of the characters, and many similar directing tricks. Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou has a much more up front romance and Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei is much more overtly wild and experimental, but both have substantial comedic elements and confront themes of self image and self acceptance, and the subsequent moving forward.

Intriguing characters framed tastefully with humor as an integral and necessary element.

KareKano romance is extremely wholesome and fullfilling, honestly believable, modest in scope and hilarious. NHK deprives you of romance and then gives it to you in powerful, selfish bursts. Whereas His and Her Circumstances lives up to its name, giving you a two person perspective of a blossoming love, NHK is the chuunybyo virgin's expectations of what a depressed romance could be like. It's heartbreaking and breathtaking. Emotions grow and collapse much more compared to KareKano's (uncertain) linear line up of happiness. tl;dr the opposite feel

They are both a slices of life anime that has a deep meaning in it and it has comedy and romance.

The animation style created from the budget cuts that the 2nd half of this anime had was clearly a very large influence on creating the distinctive style that Bakemonogatari is known for.
report Recommended by safffjjj
Both animes focus on two characters that have one thing in common! They are actually opposites in personality but have 1 thing in common! Now this might sound very vague but both animes have very eccentric characters that are very self centered or have some sort of problem for example problems socializing or being too deceitful or simply going the wrong way about life'n'things and in the end end up learning more about themselves from the opposite person of themselves and potentially even fall in love with them!
report Recommended by Eneitilyn
Both are rom-coms where the female main characters are really good at academics and looked at by everyone as the perfect role model students but have different sides in private. Both have the main characters meeting and beginning to get close early in the series, proceeding to spend a lot of time together. Both have main characters who have mental trauma (explored more deeply in Kare Kano, especially the manga.)
report Recommended by ryzxgum
Down-to-earth high school romance/dramas (although Skip and Loafer is definitely more slice-of-life). Both have a high-achieving yet naïve female mc and a very sensitive male mc.
report Recommended by SaiteiDaOrette
Romance that develops in a relationship quite early. Stories of success in life and relationships. Romcoms about overcoming problems with the support of your partner, friends and sometimes relatives rather than focusing mostly on melodrama.

I was reading the recommendations and noticed that nobody has mentioned this anime, so I decided to mention it. All the opinions given here are my personal opinions. Both of anime are romantic and based on highschool environment. This show is more focused on comedy rather than romance, but the romantic scenes in the anime are really good. If you are looking for a romantic-comedy anime series, then I would highly recommend this series. And most of all this series is quite enjoying.

Okay hear me out. Both have realistic depictions of romantic relationships between high school couples. There's bits of comedy in each (more so in Kareshi kanjojo) but i also think they have very similar art styles in that they draw from manga by dividing the screen into panels and animating bits and pieces instead of trying to show off. I think in kareshi kanajo that's more a budget thing than intentional but it still pays off and looks really beautiful but simple. Both shows are also really tender with their characters imo which makes you love them 10x more. They're really patient and the pacing  read more

Both shows focus on characters who were masks day by day to secretly hide their problems. As the story progress', the characters begin unraveling their masks and being more true to themselves

Both are very exciting and fast-paced shoujo school dramas! Both are very classy. Both have incredible visual design by directors of the highest acclaim in the anime industry. Kareshi Kanojo no Jijo's use of melodrama is more subtle, and the whole thing is more family friendly, while Onii-sama e is more likely to suit the fancy of a diehard shoujo fan. Onii-sama e really packs a punch with its melodrama. Both shows offer some of the most exciting experiences I've ever got out of anime.

Once again the main character ends up falling in love with another main character.

Both traditional school life, shoujo, romance anime. Main characters have crushes on the main character and are ambitious in becoming the best in their sports/education so that they can be worthy of their crushes.

Both revolve around a seemingly perfect girl with a shocking secret that is accidentally revealed to a boy.

these series have 2 main characters (one of the heroes and heroines) who keep up fake images of "perfect" role model students, though the reasons for them are different in each anime. these 4 characters also fall in love.
report Recommended by Staria
Nothing is really the same about them. However, both use simple but effective animation styles such as manga cut-outs and cartoon-like action that doesn't ruin the quality of the anime but enhances it.
report Recommended by DreamerofDreams1
The interaction and chemistry between Kaoru and Kenshin is almost exactly the same as Yukino's and Arima's. Similar art style and slapstick comedy with a dash of romance and a very dark childhood past haunting the male lead. If you enjoyed RK's somber yet funny atmosphere, Kare Kano is a recommended watch. Make sure you read the manga to follow up on the story.
report Recommended by arimakenshin
The most striking resemblance I see in these two anime series is in the characters Arima and Chiaki - their background, character and weaknesses (which are all further explored in their respective manga series). Both are laugh-out-loud funny at times but have similar themed dark moments. If you didn't like the wait for Nodame and Chiaki to finally establish their relationship, Kare Kano is refreshing in that their romantic relationship hits off pretty early in the series. If you loved the romance between Nodame and Chiaki and wanted more, Kare Kano is for you.

another great drama, slice-of-life or what have you.. it's centered mostly on the romance between just two characters which leaves more room for character development.. some interesting comedy thrown in there too-not exactly what i've seen in other series but it works.. it doesn't give me the same sort of feeling as honey and clover, but i just wanted to recommend it because it's highly entertaining.

Both of the main characters pretend to be something they're not in order to maintain a good reputation with their classmates.

Ami really reminded me of Yukino in this episode: being obsessed about studying, wanting to be the absolute # 1, discovering to have a rival, and then starting to feel somewhat in love with him. All in the most hilarious way possible.

the mood of both is relaxed mellow with some humor and a little melancholy. Both are slow paced and focus on slow growth. The warm and slightly awkward, loving and appreciation Natsume and Arima have with their parents. Both worry about being burdens. Both struggle with scars from the past but want happiness. There is light humor/goofiness in both of them from Nyanko-sensi and Miyazawa Yukino who each have strong personalities. both nyanko and Yukino start off as enemis to the main guy and then their relationship changes. Both are slice of life but His and Her circumstances is has drama and romance where Natsume's  read more

Both deal with emotional scars and have a guy and a girl who's interactions are quite comical to watch. Both main guy characters have situations with their families and scars from the past. Psychic detective yakumo is a horror, shoujo, romane and His and Her Circumstances is a drama, romance, shoujo

These two anime are very similar for their biggest main difference. While the main character from Kareshi is hiding behind a facade of perfection, the protagonist in Ao Haru Ride is avoiding persecution from her fellow female classmates by acting in ways that she thinks her male classmates will find unattractive. Alas, potential love interests enter their lives, and become well aware of the girls' false pretenses.
report Recommended by PandaBree
Both are romantic comedies that focus on two people (mainly). Both are sort of "classic" shows which are older than 10 years, but awesome shows nevertheless. Love Hina is more "harem" and Kare Kano focuses more on character-relationship growth. Love Hina focuses more on comedy and absurd situations while Kare Kano is a bit more serious and mature.

in both the girl doesnt like the boy at first but soon falls in love with him. in both, they completly fall in love and many things like going to a far away place for a while, push their relationships to the limit but in the end they manage to over come their problems.

Both animes have a beautiful love history and part of the history its about a theater act in the school. Also both animes have developed characters and some of them are pretty similars ( Nashisa/Yukino fathers for example).

The premise is exactly like the last arc of this show, now as the protagonist of his own story.

The plot is very similar and both characters are very ditsy and well liked, and both have a love/hate relationship with a guy that they can't stand, but eventually start falling for.

Whenever I was watching His & Her Circumstances I also felt that the anime outlined the importance of family similar to that of Usagi Drop, even though Usagi Drop has nothing to do with romance, but the development of a happy family.
report Recommended by Rayn3698
Both series contain the romance theme hence may appealing to the shoujo demographic. There is humor, interesting characters, and has a similar style that gives off a nostalgic feeling of the old school atmosphere. Both series also takes place at a school setting with other characters involved with the typical gags and drama.
report Recommended by Stark700
The similarities between the two are present throughout the entire series, but appear more prominently in the movie. Both are fundamentally about the construction of an ideal self, a persona that is shown to the world, while concealing internal feelings and the true self. Both show romance as a struggle for similarly ambitious minds, finding resolution through authenticity. One is shoujo while the other is seinen, but both are romantic comedies with a dose of drama and just as much wit as their leads, and a supporting cast that is multifaceted and interesting enough as to not let the two leads become overbearing.
