Hey there Sal, it's been a little while. Done/watched/read/listened to anything new lately?
Fuchsia Mar 13, 2019 1:12 AM
I've now listened to all the songs you recommended, here are my thoughts on them..

  • Wait more: Black skirts huh, I've had this guy recommended to me by a friend before. Quite a relaxing slow paced song, reminded me a bit of a hyukoh song.
  • Ending scene: Oh hey, it's IU. As much as I love her as an actor, I've never listened to a song from her. Decent song, but probably not something i'd listen to much again. Felt a little unmotivated and generic..
  • Not love..: Haven't heard of HIGH4 before but I enjoyed all of their performances, especially the first guy that came out. I have to say though, haven't liked IU's singing thus far, her style of singing where she's almost whispering just hasn't been too appealing to me.
  • Reset: Pretty good but nothing too notable :0
  • Kataomoi: I've heard this one before, quite a lovely song. It's very simply but it still sounds great.
  • Akane-sasu: Also heard this one before. Quite slow paced yet refreshingly so.
  • Labyrinth: Also heard this one.. I've enjoyed a few songs from MONDO GROSSO, she's quite good
  • Starlight Parade: Also heard this one, used to love these guys :p. Not the greatest song but enjoyable nonetheless. I like when he says "Welcome to the starlight parlade!".
  • RPG: Also heard this one..... I found this song to be a little monotonous but it's still SNO so that counts for something.
  • I'm about to cry: Ay it's a Radwimps song, I love these guys. I enjoy almost every single song these guys produce, mainly because of the variety in their songs. This one's pretty good also, I like the back and forth.

Unfortunately I knew too many of the songs but thanks anyway!

And hey, I've made a playlist that i'll be continually updating with korean/other asian songs that I'm enjoying this month, check it out if you'd like. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0H9T4c8elTWgKN7_cCNpIkyzoM670x7h

Heh, I ain't binged anime in ages, I haven't even watched an episode of anime in months :0

The Korean version of Scarlet heart has IU, but I would argue that the Chinese version is a little better. Of course, Korean version is pretty good too. IU is indeed pretty great, her performance in My Mister is easily one of my favorite performances in a Kdrama. Seen My Mister?

Yeah I've heard a looot about BTS, they're like almost synonymous with Kpop at this point from what I've seen..

Those BTS songs were quite good, especially the first one and Undelivered truth which I especially enjoyed. IDOL though.. I found that one to be quite mediocre in both sound and video. No offense but I could never imagine myself listening to that again, it just sounded so bad and is the kind of song I imagined when I previously avoided kpop as a whole ;_;

I'm really liking Haize and DEAN more and more. I even watched a few videos of Haize on those reality tv/talkshows which I never do.

I've heard some good things about Cheese in the trap, both the webtoon and drama. It can not hide forever, one day I will eventually consume it :p

As for those recommendations at the end.. I'll check them out and get back to you asap! Appreciate them regardless :J

Scarlet heart is indeed quite tragic, but the tragedy only comes in during the final-most episodes so it's not too bad. The premise is quite simple, a girl from modern day gets transported into the body of a girl from the qing dynasty (aka best fashion time period in china), from there a whole bunch of shenanigans ensues from her meeting with the various princes. As to where to watch this.. not too sure, I personally torrented it from a private tracker, which if you know anything about private trackers isn't the easiest thing to get in to (they have time periods where they randomly open for registration, but other than that it's hard to get in). Two versions as in the chinese and korean version?

I've never heard a song from BTS before, but that was pretty good and the dance routines throughout the video are impressive. I just personally don't like the whole pretty boy shtick that much of these kpop guys adopt, but that doesn't mean they don't have nice songs and videos, the later is becoming increasingly perfected these days. If you have any more of their songs to recommend don't hesitate to do so, especially if they have good dance routines :p

I quite liked that Mad Clown/Jinsil, I don't think I've heard another song from either of them but this reminded me of an old eminem song, an artist I used to love.

I believe that the second Loco song is indeed about him doing military service, quite a nice farewell song.

The BOL4 video.. I'm pretty sure it's about unrequited love based on the lyrics and the video.

The Haize and DEAN song/video is quite a fun one. They must have had a blast making the video xD. And yeah, DEAN is quite talented, it's not a coincidence I hear about him so often. Have you heard many songs form him?

Yeah I could easily imagine it being a drama ost too. Do you know if some dramas adapt older songs for their dramas? Lee sung kyun is pretty great, though I think I've only seen her in Weightlifting fairy, though I know she's been in some other series. By the way, there's also Choi Tae Joon in that video, I didn't notice him at first but I've seen him in quite a few series.

Tfw you don't mention the second last long, one of the better songs and videos out of those that I listed D:

I have a commute to uni that's a little under an hour daily, feel free to also recommend me some songs!
Fuchsia Mar 8, 2019 7:47 PM
I've found a few songs/artists that you may be interested in !

  • Loco, Hwasa (MAMAMOO) - Don't (Above Live): Rnb/rap/pop heavy. First song I found with either artists and I've been listening to more Loco from this, nothing more form Hwasa yet, though she's pretty good.
  • [MV] Loco(로꼬) _ It's been a while(오랜만이야) (Feat. Zion.T): Another Loco song, this time it features another korean artist 'Zion T', first time hearing him but he's quite smooth in this and has an interesting performance in the video itself, definitely looking out for his songs in the future.
  • Bolbbalgan4 - Tell Me You Love Me: I've actually heard this one before but I don't believe I've told you about it. Quite a lovely song and the video itself is awesome.
  • 나만 안되는 연애(Hard To Love) - 볼빨간사춘기(Bolbbalgan4): Another BOL4 song, though this is a very different vibe compared to the first one. Def read lyrics while listening for a better experience.
  • DPR LIVE - Text Me (OFFICIAL M/V): This one's from an artist called DPR LIVE, first song of his I listened to and it's pretty good. Not sure how much you like rap heavy songs, but if you're fine with it, you may like this one. I find it interesting that he he raps like 50/50 English/Korean, even more so that his English isn't too bad.
  • 헤이즈 (Heize) - And July (Feat. DEAN, DJ Friz) MV: One of the first songs I've heard from every artist on the track. I love how unique sounding this song is for a korean song, and of course, Heize and DEAN have great performances. Heize is especially stand out for me, it's quite impressive how well she can both sing and rap, definitely will look for more songs from her.
  • [=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WybG8FesMc8]Colde (콜드) - Your Dog Loves You (Feat. Crush)[/url]: I love the chill vibe from this song, it's pretty much exactly what we were looking for imo. It features Colde, an artist I've never heard of nor seen before, aswell as Crush, an artist I've seen from the youtube channel Colors that I've previously mentioned. Each have pretty good performances, especially the first one, I think it was Colde? (Not quite sure which it is xD). Oh and hey, if you like dogs this is pretty much your dream video :p
  • 헤이즈 (Heize) - 첫눈에 (First Sight) MV: Saw this one in the sidebar of a video while typing this out. Pretty great song, featuring Heize exclusively singing as opposed to rapping as she did in the song with DEAN that I mentioned before. The video is quite different and aesthetic, I like it. Def looking for more Heize after this.
  • [MV] Urban Zakapa(어반자카파) _ When we were two(그때의 나, 그때의 우리): Haven't heard of this RNB group before but this song was very well-rounded. At first I thought that the singer at the start sounded a little odd but it grew on me and I didn't mind that. The thing I especially love about this song is that it changes between vocals so effortlessly, it's quite charming. The video also features Lee sung kyung from Weightlifting Fairy, so that's pretty cool. I'm looking forward to hearing more from this group.
  • [MV] Han Dong Geun(한동근) _ Amazing You(그대라는 사치): I haven't heard of this guy before, but I wish I had. A lovely performance coupled with a beautiful video.
  • 로이킴 (Roy Kim) - 봄봄봄 (BOM BOM BOM) MV: Pretty much as 'feelgood' as a song can be. I believe I've heard songs from Roy Kim before, but none come to mind atm. The video itself has rather odd lighting/saturation/color choices imo, but it doesn't really detract from the fun song. I think this song is a great place to end this set of recommendations!

There are more, but I don't want to spam you too much in one day :0 Enjoy.

Sorry for the late reply, been a tad preoccupied these past few days.

Well, to be honest I might be able to stomach some tragedy series it just depends how tragic of an ending it is. In fact, even a few of my favorite series and movies involve tragedy, most notably Scarlet Heart, House of flying daggers (movie), Ran (movie) and Seven Samurai (movie).. Seen any of these?

Aye, it is quite a nice sight, especially when it's during the night and those lights highlighting the structure of the buildings are on. I myself have been to a few concerts, but not an atmospheric concert like that or Yanni. On that note, ever seen a Yanni concert online?

That makes a lot more sense, that final scene and its meaning is especially insightful. I'm a big proponent of the belief that kindness breeds kindness. I've had plenty of shitty days, only to be revitalized via someones good will. Kindness is like a virus, a good kind of virus :p

I've seen WINNER before too, though i'm not the biggest kpop fan. I find the whole kpop 'culture' to be quite exciting, though the music isn't always that great. I haven't found anything too similar just read, but you know, I will be unrelenting in my search, music is one of my fuel sources :J

By the way, I recently stumbled upon a song that you might like. Colors in general often showcases some pretty fun songs and their underrated artists.
Fuchsia Mar 2, 2019 7:06 PM
By the way, I don't think I've mentioned Hyukoh before? Check em out if you haven't, I think you'd like a lot of their songs.

This and this being my favorite songs of theirs that I've listened to ^^
Fuchsia Mar 2, 2019 6:45 PM
I haven't seen Mr Sunshine at all yet, mainly because I noticed a tragedy tag in the genres on MDL.. I try to avoid that tag whenever possible, do you like Mr Sunshine so far? I will check out Love lies though, probably soon, I've been looking for a movie to watch recently.

If you like Andrea you should check out the concert I mentioned before, if you haven't already :p

AKMU are indeed quite talented, I love seeing people with talent succeed like that, especially since their rise is well-documented. They also look like they're still having a blast and aren't letting the fame completely change them as I've seen with other artists in the past, I think this is quite a beautiful thing. I've seen that Give love performance previously, it's awesome to see that while they're talented, they still have kinks to work out at that point, it paints a lovely picture of their natural rise to stardom.

I just listened to melted. Good stuff, that video especially ;0 That said, I can't quite say that I understand the meaning of it completely, especially at the part where the kid gets walloped by the bartender so vigorously (just for not paying?).

Well, I went to AKMU's wiki page and found this

There's also this, https://www.reddit.com/r/kpop/comments/2denr6/artists_similar_to_the_laid_back_vibe_of_akdong/, which I'll have to rummage through!
Fuchsia Mar 1, 2019 10:03 PM
That's a lovely OST song, it fits my taste to a T, though I tried not to watch the video, lest I spoil anything :0

Love Lies seems like a rather interesting movie. I don't believe I've watched a movie or drama during that time period, so that'd be a new experience. The premise itself is also something that's rather foreign to me, that is to say I don't believe I've seen a story too similar. And hey, it has the female lead from W, Dong Yi and a bunch of other similarly great series/movies, that's quite promising..

Haha, I once went through a phase where I solely listened to singers like Andrea and Pavarotti for like a solid month. In particular I must've listened to Andreas Portofino 2012 concert like 100 times, so many great songs, such a great atmosphere.. I wish I was there ><

Definitely listen to Pavarotti's rendition of Caruso if you haven't already, it's such a beautiful song. Just make sure you read the subtitles, it's one of those songs where you kind of need to understand what's been said to appreciate it completely :J

Well, I've liked some country songs, but to me personally it just feels like a majority of the songs (at least the songs i've listened to) sound rather dated or old, in a way that music of similar age in different genres don't.

I don't have specific genres of korean/japanese songs that I enjoy, pretty much anything that sounds good well do. I have noticed that I tend to listen to songs with primarily female vocals though.

I've listened to a few songs from AKMU, didn't really have much of an opinion on them before though. Those songs are quite refreshing, the second song, 200% being especially great. I love the vibe in the video, seems like they had a lot of fun making it. What would you call this genre? I've listened to quite a few songs like this, but I can't really pinpoint a genre, let alone find more songs like it ;_;
Fuchsia Mar 1, 2019 5:44 AM
By the way, I found this song on your 8tracks, quite a pleasant listen!

Fuchsia Mar 1, 2019 5:18 AM
Unwind sounds quite unsettling. While I'm not necessarily afraid of many things horror, the umbrella of existentialism is quite a scary one. That said, I do enjoy stories where a group is formed to fight against something, mainly due to friendship/kinship being an important theme in such. I've seen quite a bit of 'survival' stories and have even been quite entertained a few times, but it's not the kind of genre I would actively seek out.. Of course, this depends on the story :p

Well, in my opinion the best xianixa novel is Renegade immortal. It's got a somewhat slow start, but aside from this it's pretty much binge read material.

Folk huh? I don't recall listen to many songs in this genre, at least, I can't name any. Rock is one of my most disliked genres, I've tried listening to a fair amount of songs in this genre, but I just couldn't catch the groove. I've been actively trying to find some more ballads after listening to some recently and in the past, but I just don't know where to go to find such.. Well, at least I think the songs I listened to were ballads, here they are (1, 2, 3, 4)

I listen to mostly anything that catches my interest, generally disregarding the genre, though i'm less inclined toward rock and country. In particular hip hop and korean/chinese/japanese ost songs dominate my playlists :J
Fuchsia Feb 27, 2019 5:58 PM
Good luck with that, but a bit of a forewarning, don't watch the franchise on an empty stomach ;_;

Survival stories huh.. I haven't really read much if any at all with that genre as the main genre. Though, I have read a fantasy novel called The Way of Kings, which has a strong survival theme/element. What do you like about this genre?

I personally read mostly fantasy novels with an emphasis on a large scale. A novel like the aforementioned Way of Kings is a good example of this. Another genre i'm obsessed with is xianxia, a Chinese sub genre which is heavily inspired by taoism and buddhism and focuses cultivation toward immortality. It's basically like wuxia with more magical/spiritual elements and muuuch larger scale.

What kind of music do you like?
Fuchsia Feb 27, 2019 12:16 AM
Well, perhaps the other areas of the drama are good enough to make up for the lack of romance..

The heroine of 5-9 is a great actress and a beauty :p I've recently seen her performance in the film Mumom: land of stealth. Though she wasn't the primary protagonist, she had a pretty big role, and she did very well. Don't tell anyone, but I nearly shed a tear during one of her scenes in the film ;_;

'Fun' isn't a legitimate genre, but it's one that I use when talking about asian drama. In this category I would say that not many are as good as the Let's eat franchise. The series mostly entirely light-hearted goodness. If you're a foodie, it's a must watch for sure. If you're a fan romance, it should be pretty high up there on your 'romance to watch' list. If you're a fan of both food and romance.. I think you understand where i'm going with this xD

Oh yeah? What kind of books have you read/do you enjoy?
Fuchsia Feb 23, 2019 11:35 PM
"Borders on fake" Haha, they're actors :p But yeah, his is noticeably forced.

I looked Misaeng up and it seems good enough. It also has Lee Sung Min, big fan of that guy, especially in recent years. Bummer there's no romance though.. I mean, I do rarely watch dramas without romance, but I really enjoy the genre.

I believe I dropped 5 to 9, the male MC wasn't one that I was enjoying.

Oh hae young has been on my p2w since it aired, I've been saving it for the right time since I like the main actress, especially her performance in Let's eat 2. A love so beautiful was a pretty nice watch, up until the time-skip, where I felt the pacing suddenly sped up too fast.
