Average wimpy school boy meets friendly-but-sinister girl. Lethal games start. Mayhem ensues. Bloody and edgy 'battle royale' type of stories with plenty of deaths and psychopaths, they share several genres and themes. Both manga were also serialized on Shounen Ace and consist of almost the exact same number of chapters/volumes.

Both mangas are the story of a group of people who have a "virus" and have a power for the virus. In both the main character have a bloody past and are reject by the society and are enclosed. In both a girl meet a boy in the childhood and after years they see again. And in both very people dead cause the "virus" and the powers.

Categorize with horror themes, Deadman Wonderland and Tokyo Ghoul tells the story of a young boy as their life changes forever after one faithful event. They discover their newfound powers and must adapt in order to survive. At the same time, they struggle with their humanity and is constantly a target of other supernatural beings. Mystery also envelops the stories of these two series as we learn more about the origins of their settings. Both series convey graphic violence to depict the reality of a world bound by horror. Both these manga revolve around characters who are constantly put into life-or-death situations.

both gantz and deadman wonderland are sci fi stories in which the main character is wrapped up in something he doesnt want to have to deal with. Both mangas are also very bloody so if you enjoy the gore either will fill your needs.

Confinement, gore, and desperation encompass the psychological framework in these two series.
reportRecommended by radiantfire
Both have people that acquired some kind of power after a certain disaster that occurred in the city they lived in. Because of that, part of those people were sent to prison. A special prison.

Despite the fact that both series don't share a similar focus about zombie, there are some similarities I noticed when I first read Apocalypse no Toride. + Both protagonists are weak (atleast in the beginning) + They were also wrongly accused of a crime they did't committed, which got them thrown in prisons. + The events happened after that would completely change their lives forever as they try to survive and adapt to their new environments.
reportRecommended by MatchaDantat
Both have similar character design and contains a lot of gore, since they're from the same mangakas. Undoubtedly if you like Deadman Wonderland, you will like Smokin' Parade too.

Deadman Wonderland and Psycome have a lot in common with one another. They're both set in a prison-like setting, they both follow a falsely imprisoned protagonist, and they both feature a mysterious female character who is hiding more than she is letting on. Where they differ is in their genres. Deadman Wonderland caters more towards the supernatural crowd, whilst Psycome is more ecchi/harem-based. They both make for enjoyable reading, offering plenty of tense, insane moments throughout.

Deadman Wonderland and World Embryo actually share very little in terms of plot except for in both cases the leading female character has a rather rough past. The main similarity is found in their tone, they both are what I would classify as "Dark Shounen" meaning they both maintain many of the qualities that make them shounen but have a much darker tone than manga like Naruto or the like. Another similarity is that in both manga you have a male MC who starts off weak but is extremely determined to rise up to the occasion.

Starts off fairly normal when something out of the ordinary appears and shatters the normalcy of the main character's life. Cue pandemonium.

Prison setting, crazy powers, strange characters and awesome heroines.

Akame ga Kill is a better version of this story, much better and that is why i want to recommend you akame ga kill if you liked deadman wonderland. Both shows are atrocious in the amount of gore they pour down just for the sake of it. However in akame ga kill it has greater meaning, it's a way to push the plot forward. You will see a much more effective way to make use of gore for the sake of story telling. You will see elements that are rather cartoonish and unrealistic in both shows, but overall a serious and creepy, sinister atmosphere is persistent in  read more

Both innocent boys encounter a strange situation which leads them into another world. In that world, they both met a girl friend, and also, the world follows a rule, it's like a game.

Their premise is unquestionably the same: a group of students/criminals is sent to an island/prison and forced to take part in twisted games. Each individual is given a collar, which either could explode any minute or constantly injects a poison in the person's body. They will fight to the death whether they want it or not. Despite being of different demographics, they are both violent, bloody manga set in the future, with a focus on the characters' psychology. Both stories also revolve around the specific time of three days: in BR, the students must kill each other, and after three days there has to be only  read more

both are dark, gore-y, psychological, horror, mystery, and well, awesome. Pandora Hearts is about a guy named Oz, who on his 15th birthday, is banished to the Abyss by the "red shinigami". Quote," We judge you now using the chains of conviction. Your sin is your very existence." then chains shoot out from under the ground, dragging him into the ancient prison known in fairy tales as the "Abyss". If I say much more I'll be giving spoilers but it is a must-read.

Both series have a very similar premise: An average boy accidentally finds himself in a very unusual setting among people who use parts of their own body (blood, tattoos) to fight bloody battles and ends up not only joining their ranks but possessing skill beyond anyone's expectations.

Both manga series features the theme of survival when the main male protagonist is certainly and abruptly thrown into a new environment like he has never known before. At first, the MC seems to be timid and afraid of his new situation but as time goes on, he begins to adapt and learn new skills as well as making both allies/enemies in his quest to survive. Both series features survival horror themes with violence, gore, and some emotional moments. Both series also has a strange background related to the origins of their settings as well as back stories involving the main female protagonist.

Ajin and Deadman Wonderland experiments with entities that are features non-human attributes. The main male protagonist's life also changes one day after coming face to face with death (near-death in the case for Deadman Wonderland). From there forward, they discover startling truths about their society. Both series also focuses on various mysterious entitles with supernatural abilities. If you are interested in a thrilling series about inhuman power and dark experiments, then these two series are a choice to consider.
reportRecommended by Stark700
Both series are heavy on characters with dark/angsty backstories, blood and death, stylized violence, and general crazy-awesome badassery. They have a very similar feel to them.

Children in a cruel, cruel world fighting to escape their grisly fate, while you wince and weep and cheer for them to succeed. Themes of survival and strategy/game are prominent in both, along with psychological insight and the aftermath of decisions and deaths on the young characters. Plot twists and secrets, deranged adults and traumatized kids, friendship and betrayal. The settings and protagonists' ages are slightly different, but the feel of hopelessness and desperation is the same, making these manga two of the darkest shounen titles around.
reportRecommended by RenaPsychoKiller
Although not entirely the same, both series involves humans with supernatural abilities which are considered a threat to society. They are feared and society regards them as monsters. Both series has psychological themes as well as gore, blood, and violence. Both series' main male protagonist also has similar personalities and their lives are changed forever after a certain event. Both series also has a mysterious like background regarding the origins of the characters, the setting, and how events came to be involving some of the supernatural powers presented.

Gripping Jinsei Kataoka x Kazuma Kondo works that are a mix of several different genres (sci-fi, drama, action, psychological, some romance). Both were serialized in Shounen Ace, but are more mature than most series of this demographic. Our protagonist is a kid with a monotonous life who suddenly encounters a strange girl, and sees his life change drastically - for better or worse. The characters will encounter friends and enemies, going through exciting and sometimes (or often) tragic situations.
reportRecommended by RenaPsychoKiller
Both follow teenagers who get framed for murder, and then get placed in brutal prison settings. While Deadman Wonderland is clearly more influenced by battle shounen (and has way more gore), Buraiden Gai is more psychological (with more mental brutality). Both also feature desperate prison escape attempts.
reportRecommended by bennitori
While these two titles may not be as similar as you think they are, it still deals with a main character that "gets trapped" in a certain place where they didn't want to be but still stayed for a reason (in a slightly different case for DW, though). Plus, both mangas have a character with a split personality "sealed" in them.
reportRecommended by Marbella25
MC forced into "sole survivor" role (kind of). "Befriends" a female within the "prison". Masked Villain whose intent is to kill the MC and others. A prison with deadly games. Yeah, sounds similar enough. Now let's read it.
reportRecommended by Schir
While the plots are not very similar, both have the same "feel" to them- suspense, gore, etc. While Reversal was short (and rather rushed) DW is pretty long and still publishing.

These two mangas share a kind of dark and tragic story, and the characters have some kind of special power they used to fight. The main character in both mangas has lost his memories of somebody very close to him in his childhood, and has a fateful encounter with her after quite some time. Ending is quite happy on both mangas despite all the events were pointing to a very sad one.

Both titles have themes dedicated to hopelessness and overcoming hardships. Both titles have characters that die in gruesome fashions as well as characters fighting for their lives every day. Both titles have twisted characters and plot twists at every corner.

Nanbaka and Deadman Wonderland both take place in a prison. Each series has one or two crazy characters. There is a very stern prison guard in each series. Deadman Wonderland is a darker, and more violent series. While, Nanbaka is a more light-harted, comedic series.

-Both are about characters fighting against each other in a facility to be at the top -There are different blocks and as you rise up your food and lifestyle gets better within the facility -There are characters in both manga that are two faced and reveal their true selves as a twist -They're both action packed -the fight scenes are climactic and thrilling

Both have dangerous inescapable prisons with protagonists trying to navigate their way through it. Ori no Naka no Soloist is about how a girl looses her brother in the prison as a baby, and is looking for him. The art style is very beautiful.

Both manga have hype action scenes with tones of blood and gore. Both manga also have a variety of different characters which are unique in their own way. Also both manga MC's are followed and tormented by a female protagonist.

-Similar narrative structure throughout much of the manga. -Similar vibes. -An journey into darkness / the hero’s journey. Also, a piece of advice: Deadman Wonderland is more than just gore, and Summertime Rendering is darker than it seems. They don’t have much in common in terms of style or aesthetic, but the sensations they provoke are very similar. The only way to describe them is as sister series.
reportRecommended by gantrax
While Darwin's Game was focused on a deadly mobile game, Deadman Wonderland was about prisoners who were forced to fight (and kill) each other to entertain others. Both of the protagonists start out weak (and really pathetic tbh), but grow stronger (which is seen in...well, a lot of manga/anime but!! they really do turn badass :P). However, Deadman Wonderland has more of a (slightly) romantic theme (near the end), compared to Darwin's Game.

- Both have a pair of male/female protagonists that were loyal to each other - The plot mainly revolves around both of their troubled and harrowing past - OP MC ( Chrno, Shiro) - Both have likeable side characters that helped the MC along the way and were crucial to the plot development

What these two manga have in common is: 1. The survival factor. a. Both main characters are trapped in crazy situations that they didn’t ask for nor had they ever imagined. b. Their lives are continuously at stake. c. At both stories there is someone superior (with powers or authority ) who decides all those murderous insane games and fights and who treats people just as pawns or puppets. 2. The growth and development of the main character through the story. 3. The main characters of these two stories are very similar to each other a. They both lived in their peaceful and monotonous lives, but than everything  read more

Both series have characters who use blood-type abilities in battle, where each character uses their own blood to fight in unique ways.

Both series are around a prison, they have very violent scenes and a main teenager male character that has to discover the many secrets behind. Althought DW is not over yet, they both have a great plot and are very interesting. As well Fortified School is a "must" to be read, one of the pearls from the "old school manga" :3 If you liked one of those, u'll probably like the other as well !

Did you like the tripe that was DMWL? Damn will you love this series then!! Violence! Blood! Action! Humor! ACTION!! Fun characters that aren't annoying or whiney! All from the hands of the author who brought us Trigun! You can only find this translated on bookshelves though.

In both Deadman Wonderland and Immortal Regis, a fearful but determined kid is thrown into a dangerous world full of deceit and strange girls who tend to save the day. The main characters each slowly discover the supernatural powers they possess. Both stories have crisp art which looks almost cute... right up until the gore starts.

Shonen battle manga, young boy with super powers fights against evil organization, some friends become enemies, enemies becomes friends, similar abilities; in D. Gray-man they use innocence to form their weapons, in Deadman Wonderland they use their blood.

Deadman Wonderland has a lot more blood and violence while Air Gear has some of the markings of a traditional inspiring shounen series, but both series have a similar kind of action and kinetic feel to them, a similar unorganized non-tournament fight-after-fight structure, and the same 'find your own reason' motivation for the characters to keep going and base their choices on.

A group of imprisoned people have to fight for survival while trying to seperate ally from enemy, uncover the truth, and scramble for an escape plan.

Both series involve a young protagonist trapped in a "prison" setting and forced to fight for survival. Life is Money's use of depriving the senses is similar to Deadman Wonderland's bodypart harvesting penalties, the range of character types is comparable, and the art styles have similarities.

Both have a lot of action, a lot of gore. Both have the main character risking their lives in death or life competions and fighting the bad guys . In both mangas the story is unraveling little by little and you just can't stop reading.

The stories are not similar but both have blood-filled fight scenes and some kind of supernatural element (even though Haruka is the only one on UDDUP). If you enjoy the realistic art of UDDUP then you should try Deadman Wonderland. Both of the series have a hint of romance but very little compared to the action.

A VERY good read to those who like Deadman Wonderland. Lots of blood, violence, and very gorey scenes. Starts off similarly with the leads character's parents being brutally murdered by a strange entity.

In both Soul Eater and in Deadman Wonderland the characters are forced to struggle against insanity. While Deadman Wonderland is by far a darker tale, its twisted carnival setting sort of reminded me of the punk/halloween like style portrayed in Soul Eater.

Although not depicted in the same story format, (but nonetheless amazing in its own creative right) Franken Fran delivers as Deadman Wonderland delivers in terms of gore, unexpected twists in events, and ample levels of violence. Gore is not random in either manga; it is a price tag for the nature of both storylines. Happy endings are also rare. If you devoured chapters of Deadman Wonderland like candy then Franken Fran will be just as sweet.

Out of these two, I'm not sure which is the dafter: the one with a prison that's used as an amusement park or the one where a classy all-girl school has the students try to kill edge other for badges after lessons. It's a tough one. In Deadman Wonderland a class is slaughtered, some average-but-naturally-heroic midget gets blamed and then attempts to unravel the conspiracy in prison... while playing death-games in order to earn enough credits for food and death-aversion candy. In Tokyo Girls Destruction a girl transfers to a school built on a man-made island in order to discover the truth behind her older sister's death...  read more
