Themes of survival, escape and strategy/game are prominent in both, along with psychological insight and the aftermath of decisions and deaths on the young characters. Plot twists and secrets, deranged adults and traumatized kids, friendship and betrayal.
The settings and protagonists' ages are slightly different, but the feel of hopelessness and desperation is the same, making these manga two of the darkest shounen titles around.

They both have a main character whose life is practically destroyed one day by death. Both have a main character who is trapped in a prison and wants to get out. While the characters in The Promised Neverland are fighting their "mom" to eventually escape into a hostile world they must escape from or change (or be eaten), the main character of Deadman Wonderland, Ganta, is trapped within a prison that will kill him if he doesn't do what he needs to.
