The exorcism is similar between the two. The method of storytelling and main characters feel pretty close as well. They both have a scratchy art style.

Another dark shounen title where it starts of somewhat happy and quickly turns dark. They strive away from the normal shounen formula and goes against the hero always wins norm. Both titles have very interesting and likable characters as well as a real good power system where they actually makes sense and are well thought out.

Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man. A pretty common recommendation on this site recently. But it’s true. The two are very similar.

Both began in Weekly Shōnen Jump in the year of 2018, and are darker and edgier battle shōnen manga. Both have a horror theme, similar art styles and both also take place in modern day Tokyo.

However, there are differences. Jujutsu Kaisen is more traditional, having more clean-ish art than Chainsaw Man, and isn’t as dark, messed up and morbid as that manga is. Jujutsu Kaisen is really reminding me of Chainsaw Man the more I read it. Fans of one should really check out the other. read more

So, you finished part 1 of Chainsaw Man and you're eagerly waiting for part 2? I can't think of a better series to pass that wait time than Jujutsu Kaisen. It scratches the same modern-setting, horror-action, occult-centered itch that Chainsaw Man appeals to without being so similar that you've already seen it before. 

The two series' plots premises are remarkably similar at a glance, but they diverge well when it comes to their themes and how they handle their "edginess." Like CSM, JJK makes time for humor that generally lands, but its humor is far less morbid and lends JJK a far more typical-shounen feel. However, JJK doesn't pull its punches - this series is just as dark and its conflicts are nearly as costly as CSM's devil exterminations.

A similarly rough but otherwise distinct artstyle makes JJK easy on the eyes as well, with great paneling and distinct character design to boot. If you're a fan of the messy-yet-organized feeling Fujimoto's art brings to the table, Gege Akutami cranks that up to an eleven with thick lineart and liberal use of dark ink and hatching, creative use of forced perspective, and exaggerated expressions to give its art an even more chaotic and intense feeling.

Overall, while JJK and CSM both have dark, edgy, and supernatural tones JJK stands apart from CSM as a distinctly separate approach to these similar themes, and I would call it a must-read for anyone who enjoys Chainsaw Man. read more

Firstly, the protagonists have +/- the same objectives: They are used as guinea pigs to eat "Fingers / Demon Parts" that if they survive they gain power / remain alive, if they cannot die or be killed !!! If you start reading Chainsaw Man having watched Jujutsu Kaisen you will see that they are very similar YES.

This is an obvious recommendation, but it's obvious for a reason!

I think of Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw man as sister mangas, kind of. Besides coming out around the same time, they are extremely similar plotwise and there are a lot of parallells between characters and the roles they play in the story. There are some crucial differences though. CSM is a LOT darker and grittier than JJK, in style and theme. CSM's main character Denji comes from a shitty upbringing and his life gets progressively worse. If you, like me, thought the jujutsu sorcerer kids were having a rough time and wanted them to catch a break, Chainsaw Man will make you tear your hair out. 

The story might seem like your standard, shallow, punch-slash-explosion-boobs-bloodsplatter shonen manga, but if you want to get into it, the story has a lot of hidden (or not-so-hidden depending on whether you possess basic reading comprehension skills or not) depth! It's got some of the most interesting, sympathetic and honest takes on psychological trauma that I've ever seen. (You can also read it just for the fight scenes and tits if that's your thing, it does that well too!)
The characters are also, just like in JJK, wonderful, and despite (or maybe because of) their abrasiveness and moral ambiguity/straight up lack of morals, they are all very charismatic!

Similar ish story.

Jujutsu Kaisen has cursed spirits while Chainsaw Man has demons.

You get the same feeling from both manga's.

Both of the main characters are under some organization that involve killing monsters.

Art styles are very similar as well as both main characters being portrayed as "ticking time bombs". The roles for some of the main characters from each series are almost identical for example fushiguro for jjk and aki from chainsaw man are almost the exact same when it comes to personality and the roles they fulfill. Both are amazing series.

Jujutsu kaisen is similar to Chainsaw man due to:

1- The organizations that fight against evil.

JJK: We have the sorcerers that fight against the curses (spirits) that threaten humanity. Sorcerers are controlled by the Jujutsu Technical High Schools which assign missions to the sorcerers.

CSM: There are the demon hunters who fight against the demons that threaten humanity.
The demon hunters are commanded by the organization known as the Public Security Demon Hunters who assign missions to the demon hunters.

2- Powers and abilities.

JJK: They use ritual techniques based on cursed energy (what curses are made of) to fight curses (hypocrisy).

CSM: Demon hunters make pacts with demons to fight demons (hypocrisy). read more

when i started chainsaw man i immediately had to check if jjk was by the same author-they are VERY similar and are both funny and follow different patterns than your usual shonen
-they both have similar protags (very straightforward, earnest, innocent, not your “typical” shonen protagonist full of lofty convictions)
-similar character interactions + same comedic sense
-the art styles are both sketchy and a little rugged (more so for jjk) so if one doesn’t bother you the other most likely won’t
-both are about demons and have very similar premises

If you like Jujutsu Kaisen I believe you will also like chainsaw man. So much is similar I really don't feel like naming them all off. I would not call this a rip off of any sort. The differences between the two are also easy to spot.

As mentioned before, it is also a part of the dark trio. Has similar pacing to an action shounen and the art is amazing. The plot twists are incredible and it is definitely one of those stories you can reread and uncover more things about the story the more times you read it. I personally thought the callback to denji asking makima if a perfect world will have bad movies is absolute genius writing. If you have read it you know what I am talking about and if you didn't then read it!!! It is a piece of art, go indulge in it.

They both have similar concepts like creatures being created from the fear of humans and uses Shōnen tropes in a unique execution that differentiate from the rest new gen. Also both of the authors of these series are friends and borrowing from one another.

There are countless similarities between Jujutsu Kaisen Chainsaw Man, we can mention the similarity between the characters, Itadori is like Denji, the kind and funny protagonist who doesn't want to hurt even the demons, Nobara is like Power, the protagonist's friend excited and outgoing, who often steals the show, Megumi is like Aki, the quiet boy with black hair who is a friend of the protagonists who had his family killed and wants revenge, Gojo is like Makima, both are very strong with incredible powers that can finish off any enemy, Miwa is like Kobeni, the two poor comic relief from the countryside.

Another point to highlight is the relationship between Mitaka and the War Devil in Chainsaw Man part 2 which is very similar to the relationship between Itadori and Sukuna. In addition, the pace of the narrative is similar, both work with demons and curses and are shounen manga. read more

Honestly, it’s shockingly similar. While Jujutsu Kaisen is a darker series and Bleach the lighter one, it’s clear that Gege Akutami was influenced heavily by Bleach. 
The relationship to death as a concept is very much pulled from Bleach, as well.
Incredible fights in both.
One of the larger differences is simply that Tite Kubo is a much better character designer and artist. But, Jujutsu Kaisen does well enough.
Definitely suggest Bleach, though, if you haven’t already read it. Some amazing fights and just a fun time overall. It’s not as long as its chapter amount, simply due to a lot of panels just being for fights. A quick read for such a long series.

Akutami is a Kubo fan since middle school, as she admitted in one of the interviews. Her style, especially character design, is heavily influenced by the techniques of Kubo. If you are a Bleach fan, there is a lot of fun in reading JJKS, since there are just so many close resemblances of Bleach. In fact, long-time JUMP readers will definitely feel nostalgic while reading JJKS. Akutami is paying homage to many JUMP classics, as she also admitted in the interviews.

This will contain slight spoilers for both series and a major spoiler warning later on.

The manga starts with Yuji having to awaken powers because of a life and death situation by eating Sukuna's finger. Similar to him Ichigo had to awaken his Shinigami powers because of a life and death situation where Rukia transferred her powers to him.

Afterwards we meet Gojo Satoru aka "the sensei" who is very similar character wise to Urahara Kisuke. They're both seen as very powerful entities in their worlds and are hated by many people.

Yuji was first meant to be executed but he got away with it for a short time given so that he can collect all the fingers of Sukuna which are indestructible. People didn't want to trust Yuji at first since he had Sukuna inside of him which is why he received a lot of hate from the sorcerer society and was even hunted down for it later in the manga. As a parallel to that, Ichigo was seen as an enemy by the Shinigami during the Soul Society arc and was almost killed multiple times while trying to save Rukia from getting executed.

While Yuji is able to "transform" by letting Sukuna the King of Curses take over his body, Ichigo can transform into a hollow and also communicate with Zangetsu who lives inside of his Zanpakuto and lends him power.

Spoilers for Shibuya Arc (JJK) and TYBW Arc (Bleach):

In the Shibuya Arc we find out that Kenjaku had transplanted his brain into Kaori Itadori's (Yuji's Mom) body which is why Choso ends up calling Yuji "brother". Yuji was revealed to be related to Kenjaku which also explains his supernatural physical abilities in the first few chapters. This is a big parallel to the plot twist with Ichigo's mother not being a human but a quincy and him being related to Yhwach because of that. read more

Both of these manga deal with spirits and the occult, but Dandadan has the added benefit of ALIENS. Also instead of having a Sukuna, a demon lord with insane power, stuck inside the mc, he has TURBO GRANNY, a horny overpowered super speedy grandma spirit, that makes the mc of dandadan super depressed. If u want sick action and hilarious character chemistry, and you like jujutsu kaisen Dandadan is for you.

The operant word here is vibes. Jujutsu Kaisen gives of a lot of similar vibes to Yu Yu Hakusho. Be it similarities between Yusuke and Yuji or the fighting of demons or the overall aesthetic of both series. Yu Yu Hakusho is even referenced a couple of times in Jujutsu Kaisen, the author offering up clear nods to an influence of hers. I’ll go so far as to say Jujutsu Kaisen is the modern Yu Yu Hakusho so if you like one I guarantee you’ll like the other!

Extremely strong MC made to face odds that he shouldn't be able to overcome, but does so anyway when he finds strength from his friends.  Ayashimon boasts a more refined art style, but Gege Akutami knows how to express himself through the dynamic paneling and figures shown in Jujutsu Kaisen.  Jujutsu Kaisen also has more developed character dynamics, but that's natural when something has a longer run than just 25 chapters.

Similar Power system, and is a very fast paced battle Shonun similar to JJK. Art wise, both Mangakas are fairly new and use similar techniques in the art style for creating characters giving it the same feel. Also replicates the same darker tone.

Both manga deal with the supernatural as if it were part of everyday life. There are complex linkages between practitioners of spiritual skills and government and business organizations. The characters, despite being powerful practitioners of magic, have to deal with day-to-day bureaucracies, such as salary, employment, personal relationships, etc. In both, there is a character who is much more powerful than the rest of the cast. And every structure of alliances and conflicts takes place trying to entice or stop this character.
In both series, anyone can die, even if is a important supporting character.

Geto and Gojo's relationship and past is similar to Ranmaru and Principal.Gojo and Principal are both senseis and covers their faces for a reason.They both deal with emotional storytelling that is sure to make you cry!

If you liked Jujutsu Kaisen, this is an unpopular manga that's very similar to jujustu Kaisen. (+ The author doesn't do us dirty like Gege lmao) The story is about an organisation that hunts beasts called Maga. In this world, people who die can come back as evil spirits called Maga with powers that are tied to the persons cause of death. Since these beasts eat humans they need to be terminated. 

Gokurakugai tells the story of Alma and Tao-san daily life. This adorable duo is simply to die for and the humor and vibe this manga conveys is very similar to pre-Shibuya Arc Jujutsu Kaisen. There are a lot of lovable characters with great potential and so far I love where the story is going.

The story starts of relatively light within the first few chapters which introduces and makes you wanna squeeze all the characters. However, it gets really deep into semi-disturbing/dark back stories of some of the characters so far. So if laughing about everything is your coping mechanism and you like dark stories with a lighthearted touch this is THE manga for you.

You love Saitama? You love well handled overpowered characters, then you'll find Gojo interesting. Also, have you noticed Saitama is more of a side character after the first season? Yuji might be strong but he's not overpowered in his universe where there are so many more powerful sorcerers. That's why, even though in the opposite way, he ends up like a background character just like Saitama. You get to learn more about both main characters bit by bit.

Jujutsu Kaisen sort of feels like a slightly more grown-up version of Soul Eater. 
Both have a fun cast of quirky characters and lots of funny dialogue. These series both also manage to incorporate their humor into a story with a lot of more serious action and horror elements, without sacrificing the drama of those more serious elements.

Although Basilisk is based around ninjutsu techniques, and Jujutsu Kaisen around cursed techniques, the characters utilizing said techniques get extremely creative with how they can come through. Very imaginative and gorey from both sides. Two of the characters from both Basilisk and Jujutsu have also very similar techniques and character creation. In both stories there are also clans/houses that have specific bloodline.

Aliens Area addpermalink

Aliens Area is like an alien version of Jujutsu Kaisen but instead of the MC being in school they are a member of the Men In Black. 

I have only read the first two chapters of Aliens Area but I have been really enjoying the pacing, art, fight choreography, and characters.

I finished chapter 4 and there is 0 fan service in the manga so far, I hate fan service so I greatly appreciate its absence in this manga.

Both have a similar feel and the themes are overlapping. If you like either one of these two manga, you'll most probably love the other one, too. I'd say the biggest difference are the characters themselves and the tone of the manga.
JujuKai adds more of a comedic feel to it, while Kise has a tiny bit more gore (juuuust a smidgen... okay quite a bit but not too much).

Both series are urban supernatural fantasies based on the occult focused on particular families/groups that exorcise evil and deal with internal political strife. These series are also fairly intricate and have magic systems with fights focusing more on tactics and strategies.

At first glance, Alice In Murderland and Jujutsu Kaisen are nothing alike. One is a shojo title about a family killing each other for the position of heir. The other is a shonen series about exorcising curses. But underneath all that, thematically the trials Stella and Itadori face are quite similar. From the beginning, both protagonists share their body with an immensely strong but incredibly dangerous entity. They struggle with their own identity and who is in control for which battles. They have to deal with the ones they should be able to rely on wanting them dead. Ultimately, both series are about deciding who and when to trust. read more

Jujutsu Kaisen and Psyren are both their own series yet the two feel as though they’re related. Both series are written by authors that are clearly fans of Togashi’s works and those influences shine through in both. I can guarantee that if you like either of these series then you will also like the other, they’re two sides of the same good shōnen coin.

√ Clever depiction of fantasy prompt/concept. 
√ Overpowered characters in amazing character design. 
√ Diverse personalities that makes the story interesting, which lead to funny and entertaining interactions between the characters.

- Both series deals with the protagonist as something supernatural, but part human.
- Supernatural creatures.
- Demon/supernatural schools.
- Both main characters don’t have much, to any family left.
- Character relationships are kinda similar.
- Villains who wants power over the worlds.
- Interesting battles!
- Both are very underrated [Hopefully will both get more recognition when Jujutsu gets its anime and if Ao no Exorcist gets a third season].

To be honest these manga was really great when I'm reading Jujutsu Kaisen I think about Shingeki no Kyojin they had a lot of similarities between them, firstly they had a good art when it's double page, it has a really good gore for a Shounen manga and not only that they might have the same ending when these manga end, so if you want to read a bit of a gory manga then I recommend this they might not be that gory but it's really good I highly recommend it.

The main argument as to why I think these two manga are similar, is the energy that both Toriyama and Akutami bring to the page. Jujutsu Kaisen and Dragon Ball have the most vibrant panelling that I've seen in the entire medium, action scenes are incredibly intricately choreographed, but drawn in a way that is easy to follow, characters can pop out of their respective panels, and the two styles of actually constructing a page of manga (which are extremely important, but often unnoticed when reading) are energetic but digestible in the best ways possible. 
Another similarity is the fact that the action never stops in either of the two series. Akutami & Toriyama don't waste time by letting things build up more than they should and more often than not jump straight into the central conflict, which is very gratifying as a weekly reader (regarding Jujutsu Kaisen only). read more

-MC has high physical stats/is quick on his feet 
-Mc is more serious, brave and intelligent than you would think after a single glance
-MC lives his life in a certain way because of a family member (jujutsu kaisen: grandpa/ 23-ku tokyo majo: brother)
-Although there is a difference, MC would sacrifice his life to save someone else: Jujutsu kaisen: he wants to save as many people as possible before he is killed/23-ku tokyo majo: he will sacrifice himself for his brother) 
-The powersystems in both manga are unique 
-The art style gives me a similar feeling (subjective) 
-The authors give a different spin to well-known themes (demons/witches) in a modern setting read more
