My apologies for the unusually late reply. I had to take a temporary break from the Internet on the whole to handle some personal problems.

I have not seen Elusive Samurai yet but i've been meaning to. I was introduced to it through Sakugaboard accounts I follow lol so i knew straight away the animation was peak. So i know what you mean, in Frieren there's a lot of brilliant action scenes but animation cuts that stuck with me the most are simple things, like the dancing, Stark putting on his coat with a level of flair the way he runs and stumbles over himself. That kind of character acting is my favorite thing to see animated. there's a lot of it in Bocchi. I always think of when ichika says "oh you'll make my dream come through" she jumps and hops around with this cute lil flourish.


XD well i hope you liked TTGL i was hooked on it the moment i started it. It's sadly fallen quite far on my top 10 list so i've been meaning to rewatch it, see if I can boost those numbers again. When i was younger because of like AniTube and blogs i followed i had this bias AGAINST like shounens and action shows. So i only watched SoL and iyashikei cause that's what got all the praise and awards. Turns out those shows are boring and I liked action shows cause a lot of those iyashikei like Mushishi got put on hold forever (now i love them genuinely) and when i reluctantly watched action, like Black lagoon I just adored the style. So yknow we all make strange decisions XDD

I've also been known to write whole essays to people lol either here discord or facebook messenger lol if you don't want a huge wall of text in your comments the MAL email thingy will free up the space lmao

Bocchi was def my AOTY too it was so well made the animation was like creative and heartfelt. I think my favorite girl was Ryo because her eating weeds was the funniest anime gag i've in awhile. She's also a weirdo and i like weirdos xp

Aw thank you! I try my best to like all kinds of stuff. I really don't understand people that can dismiss a genre like "I just can't watch Mecha shows" or something. Like the fact there's robot in it doesn't determine if it's good or not XD some things are harder to get into so i understand but c'mon. There's cool stuff everywhere!

That's an amusing story you have with Hi no Tori. At first, I also found Tezuka artstyle quite weird but it later grew on me as I was absorbed by the plot and its ideas. About Usogui, I don't think it's similar to Alice at all. Usogui is a dedicated high-stakes and gambling with a boring Gary Stu protag while Alice features a heavy amount of drama, char dev, and philosophical themes. I myself also dislike Usogui, some 7-score death games like Gamble Fish, Battle in 5 secs are even more enjoyable to me.

Anyway, I suppose you may want to give Hi no Tori a try. It's the source of inspiration for Urasawa and also the closest Manga to Houseki no Kuni I can think of. Stylewise, they share the unique framing, composition of panels, the clever use of black and white, scenery, and silence to depict atmosphere. Substancewise, they both incorporate Buddhism elements into the setting and exploration of theme.
