You haven't heard of Wale and CyHi the Prynce. Wale is one of J. Cole's best friends in the industry. They're real close. It's my ultimate wish to see J. cole and Wale do a joint project. More than any other collab, honestly.
CyHi the Prynce was with the GOOD Music family for a long time. It was him, Kanye West, Big Sean, Pusha T that kept things moving after Common left. He's a very mad lyrical guy with a lot of punchlines. You should watch his freestyles on YouTube. He's top tier. If you like King Los for his freestyles, you'll like CyHi the Prynce.
You want me to recommend Big KRIT songs for you? Hmmm well, I'll see what I can do, although that's a lot of work. I think I have an old YouTube playlist of his I created years ago. I'll update it and get back to you on it, if not, I'll just namedrop some songs of his in a list later for you to binge on YouTube. No biggie.
I'm out of wax on Capital STEEZ, Joey Badass and Pro Era. But around 11yrs ago, what got me going besides 1999 and the Pro Era mixtape was Waves, Survival Tactics, a few target jams of theirs and there's one specific long song of theirs I used to like, very grimey beat where they all hopped on, like 7-9mins long song. I always wanted me and my crew to do our own freestyle on that specific song's instrumental. It has been way too long mehn. I can't remember shit.
DLC has quite a lot of flaws and is pretty lacking, however its lore and environment are gorgeous.
I'm down to playing Tekken 8, so long as we won't have billion ms/ping.
SMT is a great franchise. Its bogged down by not having actual dungeons, but its best entries still stand out in dungeon design from most JRPGs. Sadomasochistic labyrinth of dungeons is what I really like about the genre alongside customizable parties/groups that require from you to map out the area and get immersed instead of experiencing some dogshit power fantasy stories that are popular nowadays in most JRPGs. However SMT compensates by having really cool ideological concepts that turns the game into horror high fantasy (or rather Dark Fantasy. I can see it being inspired by Devilman) with choices that lead to different type of ending where you can even become a religious zealot and all. In terms of gameplay it may not have customizable party, but what it has is amazing monster design and companion system that makes you weaponize/befriend said monsters, making you come up with specific teams for specific dungeons and bosses and so instead of grinding for levels, you usually grinding to come up with counter teams and mix said monsters in the lab to make more effective party. I am not really a fan of Persona cuz there you have actual characters in the story, so interactions with monsters take a backseat or are flatout removed, so the appeal of SMT is lost. I have only played a bit of Nocturne and I like how it capitalizes on individuality. Personally I would recommend the Cock and Ball Torture fan version of said game named "Nocturne: Hardtype". My favourite so far is Strange Journey, which is basically Doom turned into JRPG. I been also really liking Soul Hackers but I got issues with save files several times so I had to postpone it.
It's all good though. I gotchu covered.
Let's see. I'll just go by some of my current age favourite hip-hop artists and their projects I love, there's no need to talk about My GOAT List and all that.
1. Drake - Everything of his up until Views. I stopped paying much attention to Drake after Views. He was my favourite hip-hop artist during my highschool years.
2. Kendrick Lamar - Give me Overly Dedicated, Section.80, Good Kid Maad City and To Pimp a Butterfly. I haven't heard much of Kendrick Lamar after this.
3. J. Cole - Born Sinner is my favourite J. Cole album. The Come Up and Warm Up mixtapes are daily essentials!
4. Wale - Ambition nigga! 100 Miles and Running? The Album About Nothing? Folarin and Folarin 2? Summer on Sunset? Festivus? Mehn, I can literally flood this whole chat with my discussion about my obsession with Wale more than every other artist in this whole list. The only other artist that comes close (and eclipses this obsession) is Drake. I still listen to Folarin 2 till this day on a daily basis nigga! TO THIS DAY!!! TO THIS DAY!!!!! TO THIS DAY!!!!!!!! I don't play with Wale.
5. Ab-Soul - You see the whole Longterm series, it's a daily essential alongside J. Cole's The Come Up and Warm Up mixtapes. I'M JUST A REGULAR NIGGA, DOING REGULAR SHIT, GOT MY REGULAR CAR AND MY REGULAR BITCH!!!!
6. Big KRIT - My current generation favourite hip-hop artist. Above Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole over the years. I shouldn't go into his discography, its impact is almost endless. However, one album - 4eva is a Mighty Long Time.
7. Logic - Under Pressure and No Pressure. Under Pressure, in my opinion, is one of the best and most perfect contemporary hip-hop albums ever created. It's up there with Kendrick's GKMC and TPAB for me.
8. CyHi the Prynce - No Dope on Sundays and his Black History mixtapes? 'Nuff said boy!
Honourable mentions - Joey Badass. I used to listen to a lot of this guy back when I was in highschool with the Pro Era projects. I loved Capital STEEZ more than Joey back then haha. Oh the memories when me and my friends had plans of creating our own rap group. So groups like Pro Era, Black Hippy and Slaughterhouse were our inspirations. Unfortunately, I haven't listened to Joey since I finished highschool in 2013.
I guess I should end things here for now. We can talk about these artists individually if you want. I have done a lot of hip-hop convos with other friends on here, I'm trying to get those convos so I don't have to retype a lot of things.
Hm... My top 3 rap albums? I don't have such a ranking. It's very difficult to definitively rank albums (or projects in general). The only thing I can conclusively say is that Illmatic is pretty much my best hip-hop album of all time.
You do know when you say top rap albums and your personal favourite, those are two different things entirely. If the 3 you mentioned are your personal favourites, then what are your top 3 rap albums?
Btw, I just saw Nujabes on your favs. You're truly a man of culture
