Started off as your typical slasher manga. Very akin to older horror/ slasher films like I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scream where all our characters get picked off one by one in gruesome ways.
Plot was basic and our main "antagonist" Pumpkin Night had kind of an interesting backstory. All the characters are idiots, especially our main male protagonist, but I could overlook it. It's the same formula over and over so none of it really mattered or stood out in anyway. What mattered was the art and the gore and that was 10/10.
However it all took a down hill turn when

This review is regarding an unfinished manga, and there will be no spoilers here.
As of this review, this manga is only up to date on chapter 14, and when the manga is fully finished and i have read it all, i will write another review on it. This manga may seem like a story mostly just there to give it's readers the most disgusting depictions of death possible, but that's not all. This manga is not just a gore-fest, and it's not just about some random high school girl going rampant. There is a reason to why she's doing all of this, and trust me, ... Mar 14, 2019
If you arrived to this little gem with any hope for a compelling story of F I N E spooks, drama, betrayal and thriller, you can throw those expectations right out the proverbial window, because this one goes above and beyond to make sure you're reading a well-made thrash black comedy.
Now, to make things clear, I was indeed reading a scanlation. You might wonder why this is important. Now, I don't know if the author over there originally put any memery into this work of art but the boys and gals in charge of translating this beauty seriously went out on the town, ... Oct 20, 2018
This manga has been really popular on instagram so i thought i would check it out. I was kind of disappointed because the art was great and i would've thought this would've been at least a volume. The story wasn't really fleshed out across the manga and we barely got to know the characters, although the cliffhanger gave a slight bit of interest and i could only hope that it might be a bit longer but unfortunately that probably will not happen. Basically if you're looking for a manga with barely any backstory and barely any info on the characters that is mostly full of

I found out about Pumpkin Night through a Discord bot after the design of main character, Kirino Naoko, struck out to me. From looking into it i have found the most brutal, gory, torture-porn piece of media i've seen since Saw 6. And I fucking love it.
Pumpkin Nights is if you take every single 80's slasher film and combine them into some sort of gory cheesy amalgamation and shove it into a japanese comic book form. Of course this also means it has a lot of the downsides of those movies. Almost every single character is stiff and two-dimensional, making it so you're never really attached ... May 22, 2022
66 chapters when I read it, and I read through it all in about 2 hours. As someone who loves blood, this was the most perfect manga I could find.
Story - 6/10 At first the story is actually quite interesting, as it looks to be some sort of revenge story about the girl who got bullied mercilessly just because she was pretty and had her own individual personality. Unfortunately though, I will say that by the later chapters the story dropped down a lot, and the plot got quite confusing. It has a "villain of the chapter" type vibe, but if that gives an ... Story: 1
Art: 5 Character: 2 Enjoyment: 1 OVerall: 2 This is torture porn. Well, ther'es no porn, but ton of torture. The manga is about a crazy killer running around murdering people in most cruel way possible. All of it is depicted directly. The artist is skilled, I can give him that, but the story basically revolves around endless onscreen mutilation, dismemberment, torture, cruelty, etc. with every tiny bits of torn gore depicted as accurately as possible. The story weakly attempts to justify such behavior, but this is not noteworthy. Basically.... avoid. The level of gore is extreme, the manga attempts to throw people's guts at your face in order ... It really doesn't take Inspector Gadget to realize "Pumpkin Night" is a grotesque slasher with the sole aim of illustrating as much gore and intestinal carnage as possible. In regards to characters, they seem to exist for the express purpose of enabling Kirino Naoko, or "Pumpkin Night," to torture, ravage, and eviscerate any living thing in her path. The story is at least capable of evolving through different plotlines rather than remain at a complete standstill. Points for adopting creative ways where Pumpkin Night can make use of any object and manifest grisliness akin to your most twisted subconscious thoughts. Recommended to anyone who relishes

Naoko kills all of the medical staff in the mental hospital that she is in and escapes. Now, as Naoko wanders around town wearing a disfigured pumpkin head, all that occupies her mind is exacting revenge against those who cruelly wronged her. It is time for revenge. Nobody can escape, "Pumpkin Night" seeks to kill them all.
Hello, dear readers, weebs and otakus! Today I am going to be talking about a horror manga known as pumpkin night which is essentially inspired by western slasher films. It is basically a slasher horror manga with the slasher being the crazy girl with a disfigured face wearing a ... Feb 5, 2021
I'm writing this review, because upon looking at the manga initially on YouTube, it truly was something else, scary and interesting characters, but it all went down the shithole when they introduced this character which is literally just Trump, yep Donald J. Trump, it ruined my immersion, but I still fairly enjoyed the manga, but what really ruined it for me was how every translation had memes just forcibly written into the panels, no matter where I looked, everywhere was filled with these shitty translations with memes like there's no tomorrow, I had never seen such an interesting story ruined by the translations, and not

Initially, the story line is quite strong and substantial, following the cliches of your run of the mill slasher flick. However the English translator for the manga greatly deteriorated and diluted the plot as he attempted to infuse a plethora of racial and political comedy. An example of this would be the introduction of the character of Naruto's father, whom the reader will discover to be a representation of Donald Trump.
I believe that the manga had potential to constitute the unfairness of the aristocrats/upper class, however by the cheap and offensive comedy, the meaning behind it completely falls apart. If you enjoy graphic gore ... Dec 17, 2019
This manga is nothing more than the movie "Carrie" if she wasn't psychic, had 100 Stealth, and could dismember people with the flick of a wrist.
You think there's more than that? There's not, I've given you the entire premise. The characters are forgettable, none of them have a very distinct personality and only serve to push the meager plot forward. Gotta give credit where it's due, the art is absurdly well-done for such a poorly written manga. Edit: Upon reading chapter 16 I take it all back, the sheer brilliance of having Naruto's father as Trump not only makes this the greatest political critique since Watchmen ... Jul 28, 2024
4/10-On one hand this series is written very poorly, none of the characters are likable and the author has no idea where to take the plot, but the art and gore is phenomenal and it's undeniably fun to see what crazy direction it goes in next, so it could be worse. From the five volumes I read the story is mostly your average slasher fare but written by an author with some very obvious emotional hang ups and a seemingly detached sense of how the world works. The unofficial translation by Chillock is incredibly edgy and unfunny so I would recommend the guro-man translation if

“A manga that’s so bad it’s good” Is the best way to describe this series.
I don’t know how seriously the manga takes itself in the raws but the scanlator turned it into one big shitpost after Trump turned up in the story. I get that some people don’t like his humour but if this story was taken seriously, it would be boring and repetitive as hell. Also the characters are psychopaths for no reason, like most the school kids decide to commit attempted murder on the Pumpkin Night girl because she was slightly annoying and it was a prank. Also they are dumb even by C-movie ... Sep 8, 2021
a lot of people didnt like the manga because of the scanlations being racist and transphobic, and kinda just butchering most of the lines by trying but epicly failing to make it funny, which is a shame for the author, but if you're willing to look past some hiccups in the language throughout, I definitely would recommend this. it does go downhill a little after part one, but I believe that it'll pick up again soon
only because of the quality drop after p1 where they kinda transformed it from a revenge story to more just general justice, I give the story a 6. also, ... Oct 7, 2022
For now it's tentatively recommended because I see potential in the story (because it has one apparently) and the art is great. 10/10 art. The art is impeccable. This is definitely more of a gory thriller mystery story then it is any type of horror. The only remotely horror element is the fact that the 2 main characters are serial killers with superpowers a la CreepyPasta or Freddy Kruger or Jason. The trope slasher movie villains that can't seem to die. But here they are the main characters and the ones we are set up to agree with, which basically looses all the horror parts

One of the most positive things about the manga is its dark and unsettling atmosphere. The author is able to create a tense and oppressive environment that really helps to build a sense of fear and discomfort. Additionally, the plot is well-developed and has several unexpected twists that keep the reader engaged.
Another positive point is the author's ability to develop interesting and multi-faceted characters. Each one has their own unique personalities and fears, making them more real and emotional for the reader. The artwork is also very well done, with detailed and expressive illustrations that truly capture the essence of the story. The art is somewhat ... Feb 27, 2023
To quote another piece of media that I also recently enjoyed, Pumpkin Night can best be described as "a concept." The concept in this case is a loose series of ideas that serve as the plot in order for artist Seima Taniguch to showcase his absolute mastery at depicting the annihilation of the human form. Make no mistake, the pornographic (no other way to put it) depiction of gore is the heart and soul of Pumpkin Night, and on this front it absolutely delivers. Every way that a person can be mauled, shredded, gored, and much more is depicted with a merciless eye for detail

Great Binge read material
The story is filled with pretty interesting developments, all the while being accompanied with pretty gruesome slasher violence and gore. This, and the fact that there is a somewhat intriguing plot in the background, makes for a manga that's a solid pick if you are looking for a binge read session. That said however, if you are like me, and won't be able to finish 30-40 chapters in one sitting, the story can get a little boring. Especially after you come back to read it after a day or something. What kept me going was basically the crazy slasher moments, and overall ... May 3, 2021
Ok, this is such an all over the place rating for what is one of my favorite manga so far.
The story isn't anything really new or groundbreaking, can kind of see it as if Carrie started at the prom instead of ending at it. A girl named Naoko gets pranked on the night of prom, however it goes horribly wrong and ends up causing her severe mental and physical scarring. The series then proceeds as a revenge tale while our now Naoko going by "Pumpkin Night" stays as the main slasher throughout. The art is outstanding. The level of Gore, violence and pure carnage is ... |
