if you don't want to read my entire review, here it is summarized: talentless nana is good, you all are just mean.

with everything i read, it's never about some god-like realization i get. it's always enjoyment factor, down to the core of it. talentless nana might not make you a believer, but you're going to love it or i'm going to take you out.

talentless nana, at its core, isn't really about world building. from what i've seen, it's a psychological type of manga, and gives focus on connections. i don't meant to be so vague, but read up until chapter 5 before you make a ... judgement. for one of my friends, she read an article from someone who put dissed the manga after two chapters just because of world building and unrealistic qualities. those holes do have a reason that is built up to later on, so it's about actually getting to the bottom of the iceberg. guess who really likes it now?

ultimately, there's so much to gush over. personally, i love the foreshadowing and subtle hints across the story that help you form an idea; and because for me and my friends, they turned out true, it only proves that the writing is good enough to give you an idea of what's going to happen. the manga doesn't rely heavily on shock factor, and there's a sense of satisfaction you get when your prediction clicks just right. there are twists, of course, unpredictable ones that just get you more into it.

also, the characters, or at least the main one, grows throughout the story. it's like watching your own child develop. very good, though i'll say no more. the art also improves just after a few chapters. and have i mentioned the enjoyment factor is killer?

I don't care what people say, this manga is peak. It's fucking amazing, with really well written twists and characters I adore dearly. I wish it were more well known and more respected, because it's easily one of my favorite stories of all time.
Every chapter has a cliffhanger to leave you on, with every twist genuinely being well laid out in advance without also being obvious. If you like thriller, this is PEAK thriller. I'm a thriller junkie, so I may be a tad biased, but still. The mind games, the mysteries, the twists and turns. This manga has it all and never lets up.

And ... that's the best part for me, is this manga never feels to me like it loses its way. Other thriller mangas and stories like this I feel often write themselves into a corner, where they don't know exactly where to go from here or how to up the stakes. But Talentless Nana from the very beginning you can tell they *knew* where they wanted their story to go and it works. The first arc of the story, that being covered by the anime, starts off being pretty standard, but slowly shows it's deeper complexity as it comes to a close, and suddenly this whole narrative that had just been constructed is taken apart, but in a way that makes sense *and* continuously raises the stakes. The story doesn't get stale because it allows itself to change, but unlike something like The Promised Neverland, it doesn't stray so far from what made it's first chunk so special in the process. I'd argue that as it goes on, this story just gets more and more interesting.

Really the only downside is that it's monthly releases which can suck to wait for, but it's honestly worth it if it means getting the level of quality writing that we have.

[Spoilers Ahead] Short on Purpose

Act 1, The Story & Characters: 8
The story sounds generic, but in reality it really isn't. It starts out like another chosen one story. Monsters come somewhere and reek havoc on earth. Then transfer girl called Nana, who supposedly can read minds, comes in and the first chapter does the obligatory chosen one stuff until the end. Nana kills the boy and said that the ones on the island are the true humanity's end. This was a mind fuck. Absolutely a mind fuck. Nana goes on the quest on killing the students on the island. She is very smart in ... killing the people she is targeting and knows what to do. She leaves very little traces and is very good at it. But she also fails to kill one student that is immortal and v=can sometimes be outsmarted. I only want to spoil Nana only.

Act 2, The Art: 7
It's really well done with some errors. I really liked Nana's design and her face when she almost gets figured out.

Act 3, Enjoyment and Overall: 8
It was really good in my opinion. Really just read the manga and decide what the score is. Once again, I enjoyed it and thought it was well done.

The story itself is interesting but poorly executed thanks to the severely unlikable characters. If they were unlikable in a realistic manner then this wouldn't be a problem, but they are as unrealistic as they are disgusting. There are very few characters that don't make you feel sick to the stomach but even they are poorly made showing some pretty severe inconsistencies already.

The art quality varies drastically having some panels that are amazing and some that are total crap with clutter and overused 'emotional' expressions. On top of the layout being uninteresting the art style itself is one I personally don't enjoy.

Any enjoyment I ... had was instantly replaced by annoyance at the idiocy of the characters and by my own mind deconstructing the world and dismantling anything to the point that being up to date, I have accurately guessed the outcome of everything before it happened so far.

As I said, the story itself is interesting. Once you get a grasp of the characters and the way they take the story (after the first two chapters) it becomes incredibly dry.

The manga can redeem itself in the coming chapters but it has already drained me to the point that I can't continue reading it.

This manga really got me on edge.. Not in a good way. I absolutely hate the main character. At first the story starts off focusing on a boy called Nakajima, but he is not the true mc. The true mc is a emotionless, serial killer who just wants to kill people because they supposedly are going to murder millions from the data on her phone which only shows two things, their name and how much they could kill. [spoiler]

Nakajima dies and the girl was the one who killed him. There are also several other characters in the story who try to figure out her motives ... but it is so poorly executed. I mean really? She can't just get away with everything. She is also a poorly developed character, so detestable because she supposedly is to kill the enemies of humanity, but those 'enemies', are merely students. It just goes on and on with her killing spree. Ridiculous. The art isn't that bad but the story is badly executed. Even the good guys aren't that likable.

I'm writing this review in response to the confirmation of the anime adaptation, I was going to post this on that notice but it ended up becoming more of a review and wayyy too long so I decided to post it here.

I have mixed feelings about this.

On one hand I'm a manga reader that has kept up to date with this series, and just as the other reviews of the manga say, the first episode really gets you excited but then after that the story can get a little samey fast. There is little substantial character development that doesn't get... uuuh... to avoid any spoilers ... lets say cut off, and even then 'most' characters are not very like able and though that may be what the the writer was going for, there weren't many characters that could be empathized or sympathized with (in my case anyway) so it's hard to feel anything for them when they inevitably... go fishing.

Therefore if you didn't like it's big gimmick, the theme or you aren't a massive sucker for these kinds of stories then there wasn't much reason to continue reading after the first handful of chapters because after that you could kinda see how things were gonna go from there, and you'd be right, because despite hints of things possibly changing for the characters or story, it didn't.

But then something DID begin to change, down the road when you thought it was going to be the same shtick over and over, as if the writer did a double take and when you were least expecting it, kicked you in the nuts. Suddenly it felt like the story was moving, there was character development that had me interested and actually FEELING something for said characters. It felt like everything that preceded it was to place the main character in this moral dilemma, where they show their changes for the better but are struggling to cope with their past actions and doubt towards whether or how to deal with things from there.

However of course this doesn't automatically eliminate much of the problems, despite the change things seem to still follow the same "so and so of the week" formula. The issues people will experience before getting to this point are still very much there. And at this point in time I still don't know if it will be able to keep this up, if most others will appreciate this change or if it will return to it's roots and go back to being its old self, that for the most part, only people who are into this genre would be able to enjoy.

That's why I'm afraid an anime adaptation would probably fall into a similar pattern the manga did. People would be enticed by the first episode and continue watching from there but then get bored and leave before things get a chance to pick up. And even then that's a mystery in of itself because a single chapter of this book is L O N G dude, not anything crazy amounts but enough that there's actually more material than you'd think just by looking at the chapter count. Anyway there's a lot of material to cover before things to get to this point and unless the anime is willing to omit a lot of things (which they could probably do, there isn't much things you could skip over and have it negatively effect the story) or, trim the fat as they say, then I doubt it would get the chance to shine as an anime.

But all in all, these are just my thoughts, maybe the anime would be totally different and surpass all my expectations and I'll end up looking like a bumbling dumb ass and I hope that's true, because personally I can see this becoming pretty damn good given the correct circumstances and changes and would want it to be. But right now there's too much I don't know so I'll just be waiting too see how it is I suppose.

The story could had been good if only at least we as the reader would had a reason to care about the MC (Nana) but we got not such thing

She in fact had a walking plot armor for most of the story, the other characters are mostly morons and one in particular (Kyoya) becomes one when he goes againts Nana

Many of the character seem to fall head over heels for her and the most annoying one was only alive for a little minor character development

The other thing I noticed is the fact how some characters are deemed as evil and dealt with but others ... for no reason can be redeemed only because Nana says so and at least for me this was pretty bad

My enjoyment was pretty bad because I was cringing so hard at some parts and others were plain funny because of how bad they were

This can be good for many if you don't analyze many of the parts because if you do, you will see how they make no sense

I admit. I totally underestimated this series. After watching 4 episodes of the anime, I was surprised at how much I'm enjoying it. I had expected it to be your average series that relied on that twist at the end of episode/chapter 1 and then went downhill after that without the element of surprise. I'd even admit I had thought the author was for sure riding on MHA's popularity by introducing a setting that's so similar to MHA and a "main male lead" who's basically Izuku born with a quirk. So when I decided to check out the manga, I was ready to just skim ... through and drop it after having seen what it has to offer. To my surprise, it has everything it needs to make me enjoy it. The best way to summarize it is Death Note meets My Hero Academia meets Among Us: The Animation.

Story: 8/10
It relies on a simple concept: a talentless protagonist is sent undercover to a school full of talented kids to slaughter them from the inside. For the first few chapters, I thought it was going to be a monster (murder) of the day type of story. Nana finds a new target, gets close to them, finds out their talent, kills them, Kyoya suspects her but can’t find any evidence to support his claim. But then I was proven wrong when these first few murders actually have foreshadowings for later twists that I never saw coming (and they totally make sense when you think about them), and the causation of the events are all connected and make sense. Nothing just happens for no reasons. The methods used to kill the characters aren’t asspulls and can be logically foreseen with all the pieces presented to us. It’s like a mystery game of solving the murder except we’re the killer and we’re trying to use the information available to us to kill these OP characters.

The author isn’t afraid to push Nana into a corner that seems like there’s no way out, and then come up with a brilliant way to get her out of it. It’s like Death Note where Light and L’s cat and mouse games often ended up with Light in a pinch and it seemed like it’s game over, only for him to come up with a way out that’s so simple and effective yet we didn’t foresee that. I also like how the author isn’t afraid to change settings to further the worldbuilding and raise the stakes. There are still many things that haven’t been explained yet about this world and how it works, which is why I merely gave the story an 8/10.

Art: 8/10
It’s a simple art style that fits the type of story it’s telling. It can be cutesy and bubbly when Nana is blending in, and can also be horrifying and chilling when Nana’s being murderous and savage. It reminds me a lot of Kaguya-sama: Love is War, where the art is good and cute most of the time, but can also make the manga seem like a horror manga whenever Kaguya’s been all yandere-like.

Character: 8/10
The characters started out as your usual tropey characters. We have the cute pink-haired girl who’s secretly a psycho, a kind, naive girl who always puts others before herself no matter how much they bullied her, we have a playboy with long hair, a violent guy with a fire power, a boy with ‘no power’ who’s bullied by others… (now how many times have we seen these before?) I expected these characters to be like MHA’s Class-1A where they all have one or two personality traits unique to them and get no development afterwards (except a few key characters). This is not the case with Talentless Nana. Characters are affected by their situations, and their goals, motivations, and personalities also change accordingly.

Nana, surprisingly, got the most character development. What I thought was plot holes (how many of the estimated kill counts don’t make sense, yet Nana believed them) were brought up later on. She went from your typical pink-haired psycho killer to a girl who gradually began to suspect her orders and superiors after being touched by the kindness of others and drowned in guilt after seeing the sacrifices others are willing to make for her. The changes weren’t instant. Nana went through denial, hesitation, acceptance, and finally rebellion. Her development made her more realistic, and also more likeable. I found myself rooting for her more later on than I had in the beginning. She’s not just a mindless puppet. She’s her own person and has her own view of the world. And even if it contradicts what she was told, she was willing to put her bet on her own judgement and take control of her own life.

Aside from our protagonist, some of the side characters also received developments of their own. I can’t explain in detail without spoiling, but just know that a certain character actually defied their cliche personality traits after being affected by certain events (people change, what a surprise) which led to them taking a darker route and playing a completely different role than I had expected from them.

Also, there are nearly no fanservice so that’s a plus. And the tiiiiny bits of fanservice (literally just Nana and Kyoya taking off their shirt, and a few others) all make sense. They’re not your typical “ahh i tripped and face-planted in your boobs”. They all happen for a reason and are integral to the plot.

Enjoyment: 10/10
Let’s just say… I expected nothing and got everything.

Overall: 8.5/10 (but since it’s MAL I had to put 8/10)
This story has MHA’s setting and characters but with actual development, Death Note’s cat and mouse game between characters who are more relatable than the #1 detective in the world and a sociopathic straight-A student with a God complex, and Among Us’s “there’s an imposter among us!” concept. I caught up with it in a day after watching episode 4 of the anime. The last time I was this into a manga was when I read “My Home Hero”, which is honestly a masterpiece imo.

Don’t judge this manga by just the first few chapters, or by the cover and synopsis alone. You will find yourself enjoying more than you expected, and you will also grow to love the characters (Nana especially). The twists are unexpected but if you piece together what’s been shown to you, you can foresee the twists 90% of the time. They’re not asspulls, or too difficult to understand. They’re the perfect amount of difficulty for the readers. You’re not going to see intricate plans like most of Yagami Light’s plans, but that doesn’t make Nana’s plans here any less entertaining to watch. They’re more...suited for average people like you and me who don’t have an IQ of 150+.

Nana also isn’t a sociopath like Light. She’s just a normal girl brainwashed into seeing the talented kids as the enemy. Deep down, she still cares and can sympathize with others, though she would even fool herself into believing she doesn’t.

And lastly, I ship Kyoya x Nana to hell and back! Though there hasn’t been any romantic developments between them, you can’t stop me from liking their rivalry. So if nothing else, ‘enemies to friends to lovers’ shippers should check out this manga so you have one more ship to ship.

PS: those of you who contributed to this manga getting such a low score needs to reevaluate your decision because this manga deserves at the very least a 7/10.

PPS: If you come in expecting a MHA version of Death Note, then you're going to be disappointed because this isn't supposed to be like Death Note. This story isn't solely a battle of wits, so don't expect every single character to be smart. They're not, just like in real life there're some people who are so stupid it isn't even possible. Death Note casts are mainly the police, FBI, or geniuses, while in Talentless Nana the casts are all just high school kids. So don't think ill of this story solely because certain characters are stupid or not able to piece together clues.

Story: 7

I haven't read much manga in my past so in my opinion, this is a good start if you're starting out. I have found the story to be enjoyable because of a balance between loss and mystery within the series. However, the character still managed to get away scotfree no matter what the character does, so that throws me off a bit where she wasn't caught no matter what.

Art: 4

Not very consistent, but delivers the purpose. There are parts where they're so detailed they can't really be compared to the rest, especially comedic moments. Overall 4 in comparison to other manga I've read.

Character: 3

Here ... comes the bit where the character gets away scotfree no matter what the character does, whenever someone's killed, the detective just believes it. This part I detest the most. There are a lot of characters in this Manga that stand out and have a good righteous heart, but in the end, the MC kinda thwarted them. What's worse is that their backstory needs a lot of refinement.

Enjoyment: 7

Even though there are bad aspects within this manga, it still managed to make me sob up a little from a certain scene within the Manga. I wouldn't say this Manga is a complete failure filled with cliches and such but I've gotten my share of entertainment reading up the entirety up to chapter 40 so far.

Overall: 6

Well, combining the bad aspect and the enjoyment together, this manga deserves a 6 as it did touch my heart a little from a certain character, it emphasised loss to the MC (Even if that scene could be a little more developed), and there is just that typical sinister organization behind of all this. Obviously, this feels cliched and I can already predict what's going to happen. But overall, the story is still quite enjoyable, just lacking a bit of pain for the MC that didn't get in trouble whatsoever whenever the MC murders someone.

I decided to catch up to the manga before watching the anime. So here's a summarization of the rambling I'm about to write: Talentless Nana is amazing, you're just too lazy to continue reading it

I've been reading a lot of reviews saying that it's bad because the "characters are stupid" or "the world-building is trash" let me break it to you, sonny, the characters are meant to be stupid. They are meant to be arrogant. If they weren't, the story would end with Kyoya figuring out that Nana was the one who killed Nanao. There wouldn't be much of a story if that happens, now would it? Kyoya isn't able to put the blame entirely on Nana because he can't find a motive, and without a motive, he could very well be accused of falsely accusing her. I've also read that the MC doesn't go through character development, which is completely false. She went through character development. After Michiru died, she ended up feeling grief. She grieved the death of her friend. After that, she ended up wondering why she needs to kill them. Why she was being ordered to kill them. The people she has met and gone to school with were genuinely good people (well some of them.) That's some really good character development for a serial killer, don't you think? Regarding the art, it is average, nothing too special. You can tell from how I wrote this that my enjoyment of the manga was really great. I caught up reading it in a day. Anyway, I don't want to keep this too long so I'll end it here. While reading this, it made me stop, look away, and try to process what just happened. If you continue reading, i can guarantee you'll experience doing something similar.

This manga had a lot of promise after the first chapter in my opinion. But after that 1st chapter it just became really repetitive. [SPOILERS] It basically followed this chain, 1: Nana would be caught and have almost no way to BS her way out the situation. 2: She BSes her way out of the situation and avoids being found out anyway. I hated that every single time she got found out she just managed to pull something out of her ass anyways. The art was nice imo simplistic, didn't really do too much. I did like some of the twists however that happen in ... the later chapters. Overall for my 2nd manga that i've ever read, it was just meh. I can't seem to find any information about whether its still going (i would assume so since chapter 35 was left with many questions) so i would hope that it gets better and the story stops repeating itself. It can be enjoyable at times but for now i have to say its only alright.

What can I say...

This is "The boys." but as a one girl crew. There are lots of plot twists, some you see coming from a mile away, others you don't.


I read a lot of comments about "plot armor" or stuff like this, because the MC gets away with her game of Among Us.

This is a villain Protagonist with a lot of combat experience (and training!) fighting against literal childern with nukes. Of course she's smart and they are dumb, that's how it works.

I bet a lot of people are pissed because they got tricked by the first episode of the Anime. Read the gerne next time.


If you've ever read "the Boys" from Garth Ennis - this is exactly on the same level. Maybe less brutal.

This is a remarkable story with many twists and turns have have you at the edge of their seat. I know it’s cliche to say that but this story is everything but cliche. You start to grow on the characters, their back stories, their powers, their personality.

If you like a big cast as well, this story definitely holds its place as having many characters, unlike a lot of shows with many characters, you tend to forget about characters and their names. Not in this story.

The character balance is fantastic, each character represents their place and part of the story perfectly, there ... is no character that is represented poorly.


I would 100% recommend, I’m quite new to manga and reviews as well, I hope you find this helpful and give the story a try.

But when you read like 20+ chapter, you will realise that the characters are stupid and can't notice how sus the Nana is. Everytime she cling with someone that person will die, her classmate didn't notice and care about that.

Even 5 year old kids who play Among Us is smarter than this manga's characters.

- Even the smartest side character is still stupid


I rate this far from good, and i can't enjoy any chapter of this manga.
But if you remove all the dialogue and see only the art, maybe you can enjoy it.

Tl;dr This is pulpy, edgy fun. It's no masterpiece by any stretch, but it's entertaining and therefor fine.

Story:

This section is pretty hard to do without spoilers. For starters, this story involves superpowered high school students in a unique take on a monster of the week formula. It gets edgy real quick as students go missing. The story has many plot twists and big reveals as we uncover what's really happening at this school...

Light spoilers: The story is like a game of among us and the protagonist is the killer.

The plot is pretty formulaic, but every new opponent is interesting in their own right and ... it's fun to watch our under dog protagonist go up against tougher and tougher odds. (I'm trying to be as vague as possible) There's a problem with it being a mystery in that all the characters are stupid enough to prolong the story, even characters that we're told are smart don't really do much to effect the plot. It's more of a feeling of tension that this manga brings rather than anything super substantial actually happening and that's fine if you enjoy the formula.

It attempts to mix this up at a certain point with a big twist, but ultimately with the recent chapters, it's clear that it'll always go back to a familiar formula. Nana will always 1v1 a talented.

Characters:

Like I said before, a perceived problem with this manga is that all the characters are aggressively ignorant to what's going on. it's kind of necessary to make the series work like it does but I understand the frustration. Ok, got the obvious out of the way.

I like Nana as a character. I like how she progresses from the facade of a bubbly high school girl to a genuinely good person who just wants to save people. I like her resourcefulness, her guilt, and how her backstory plays into her character. That being said, she has godtier, grade S plot armor. Like you can kind of buy certain plots because she's clearly been trained very well. But damn this girl should not be alive, well, and sane after what she goes through.

Kyouya is cool but very underutilized. He's just used to peak up the tension and stand in as a sort of rival/potential love interest character.
I feel similarly about Jin, he's very cool but is primarily used as a mysterious exposition dump character.

The antagonists are alright. Generally serviceable for the amount of time that they're given and memorable for their different powers and deranged backstories.

Side characters are weak. Very mediocre in design and personality. Most are just there as noise or plot convenience.

Art:
It's got a distinct enough style. Its thick lines and simple designs give it this poppy cutesy look which contrasts with the darker material. It doesn't always look the best for the action scenes but it's serviceable.

Overall: I like it but it's just ok. This story won't change your life, but it's a fun little edgy read that's propelled by cliffhangers. It's entertaining if nothing else

I have to admit, I was expecting a My Hero Academia Walmart brand knock off going into this. In all honestly, aside the premises of a super powered humans, it averted many of my expectations. It's VERY good, and I highly recommend it. I was thoroughly shocked to see that it's rating is so low!

Story: 9/10
First of all, it has it's wham lines and shots, LOTS of it but it's coherent and linear that you're blown away but it's not out of left field. I absolutely loved the first episode, it really sets the scene and I really recommend it! I want to see ... what happens, I want to see how main character develops and where it's going with this.

If you especially like Danganronpa series, I would highly recommend this series to you.

Art: 6/10

I have to admit the art's not exactly the most stellar thing in the world. It's pretty generic, but it does the job well enough. The expressions, the designs, the backgrounds are all just enough to set the scene and translate what's happening. It's essentially 'oh that's nice art!' and that's really it, there's nothing very outwardly amazing about it. However if you're looking for some gorgeous studio ghibli or clannad stunning work, this really isn't it.

Character: 7/10

Stunning, I VERY much love the character set up for the protagonist and the tension set up they set up between them. If you like the set up of characters trying to outfoxing each other, THIS has it. I want to see the friendships form in this series and how the develop from each other. I'm not quite sure why, but many people seem to dislike the main character but I actually think the main protagonist is a very interesting person and I want to see the development happen as friendships and revelations are shown.

However, I have to admit side characters aren't used as much, while they have a big cast, only the main characters get the shine and interesting development and the rest aren't very much invested and I wish they used them a little more, and most of the rest simply get a 'one episode wonder' and fall to the wayside otherwise. Their use of side characters are simply plot and they're not interesting otherwise.

I have to admit, as a **warning, and a spoiler! Skip this if you don't want this! But I find it is important to note.** Characters do die in this series. And I have to admit I'm not fond of some of the few choices that they made on who died, but at the same time I can see the reason why. It's just one of the story decisions I don't agree with I suppose.

Enjoyment: 10/10

Oh I thoroughly enjoyed this series very much, the twists and relations between crucial characters, the plot, the curiosity of how it'll all be solved... It's VERY entertaining but admittingly a bit mind boggling sometimes. And just wondering 'I wonder how they'll pull it off this time?' It's just constant curiosity.

Overall: 9/10

Series Like Talentless Nana makes me wish there was a .5 you could add for anime scores because I would rate this an 8.5/10 instead of 9/10. Here's why...

Talentless Nana is a series that doesn't go above and beyond with a top tier innovative story and at least in the manga, the art style can either be 3/10 or 10/10 depending on the chapter. This is why if you would like to consume the series I would recommend the anime adaptation: at least for now. The anime makes some of the derpy manga moments more watchable and I think they stopped at a decent point ... to where if they never made a season 2 I would be fine with it. The problem I have with the manga is it's the type that's HORRIBLE to read at a monthly release. With the number of plot twists they throw in it is best consumed binged. It is really enjoyable but you will probably forget a lot of stuff that happened prior due to the release schedule and slowly lose interest in the characters (which are the SELLING POINT in my opinion).

TL: DR --> Watch the anime wait for the manga to finish then binge EZ 9/10 in that case.

The first chapter is a a real twist then after that it becomes fairly predictable what the MC will do, the main problem with the story so far is that we have no vested interest in the MC aside from the fact of her mysterious orders to kill the talented the MC is portrayed as completely unlikable and with no redeeming traits side from being clever were given no motivation for there actions side from looming have for this talented people called enemies of humanity it like minority report without the psychic people to tell them there going to commit a crime though there might ... be some hidden in the organization she works for don't know yet.

This is an incredibly divisive title - I'm on the side of liking it, though I think its author could stand to give its readers more credit. By nature of its premise, this review is going to be at least a little spoilery; I'll put the big ones after spoiler tags. Be warned.

THE GOOD
The character designs are attractive and colourful. Our protagonist is scheming and intelligent, but realistically out-of-touch socially - her fake sweet-anime-protagonist demeanour is (unlike what many internet commentators will tell you) a liability, which is easily seen through by the smarter characters after a while. Throughout, I wanted to spend yet more ... time in Nana's head; her thought processes were well-written and a hell of a ride to follow through. The [BIG SPOILER] exploitative hold her immediate boss has over her is appropriately tragic and fury-inducing, and will have you nearly screaming at the page. There are moments in which you WILL cry - one standout event is close to mawkish, but has a real emotional core amidst all the melodrama - and I quickly started testing myself to see if I could solve some of the mysteries faster than Nana did. You will probably connect in very different ways to each of the three (later four) leads. The battles of the mind are almost always better staged than the physical ones here, and there are some genuinely thorny ethical questions that get raised later on.

THE BAD
Most everyone Nana kills is proven to be unpleasant or evil by the end of their arc, which I'm not fond of as a development. I wanted them to put more thumbscrews on our murderess MC - having her manipulated into killing sincerely well-meaning students, and then dealing with her guilt over doing so, offers both her and the reader a much trickier conflict. The setting itself is an unfortunate combination of outlandish and underdeveloped, which is thrown into relief when [BIG SPOILER] the manga moves into the city: the backgrounds instantly get livelier and more interesting. I'd have liked to see the manga set at a normal school in a big city, with the superpowered kids forming a clique within it. The superpower-school setting seems like a poor attempt to ape My Hero Academia, and as many other reviews have said Talentless Nana suffers for it.

If you're OK with not always liking a main character, you take enjoyment in psychological mind-games, and you love a deliciously dark, B-movie story, you'll enjoy this manga just fine. It's no work of art, but it's a solid popcorn thriller.

It's not the best thing you'll ever read, in fact, it got me furious at some points because it feels like the author is really testing my patience as a reader. However, it's not terrible either. It has its gut-wrenching moments, interesting plot twists and intriguing cliffhangers. The plot is unique (at least for a manga), and the art style isn't bothersome to the eye.

I hated the main character at first but as the story went on, they became less of a villain and more of a tragic figurine. Their flaws are understandable and doesn't make them shallow or excuse their action (at least ... for the first quarter of the manga).

Most of the antagonists don't feel like real people. They're severely messed up individuals that to the point where their murder is justified, and this feels like a cop out to me. It could be written in a better way perhaps, but the author wanted to quickly kill them and move on to the next antagonist (there are too many of them).

Most of the characters don't stand out from the background and only act when they need to do. It's almost as if the author added them make their story *feel* like there are people in this classroom. They're stock characters at best, or insufferable who stagnates the plot at worst.

One big complaint of mine is that it felt like it's longer than it needs to be, and the author is just dragging the story for a reason I'm not aware of. I read a good chunk of it, but it's simply not interesting to read anymore.
