If they don't even kiss after they get married, I'll be pretty upset.

Part of me wants Tomoya to forgive his Dad, but the other part of me is really mad at him. I can't say Tomoya is unjustified in his behavior.

Great episode - CLANNAD is really getting better and better and this point with it's slice-of-life being painfully realistic, as I could relate to a lot of situations.

Till just a few months ago I would have been of the those that are annoyed by the fact they haven't kissed before the marriage proposal - but recently I've reconsidered my definition of love... till now, like most western people, I've considered real love a mix of physical and emotional love. But to realize true love, I think the focus should lie on love that's pure and doesn't rely on physical conctact. If there is a feeling of inner peace and fullfilment with the one, if you feel complete with her - then she is the one. Never lose focus!

CLANNAD makes me reflect on my own life a lot, I kind of wish I watched it earlier, as it's giving out quite some lessons of true love. Anyway, beautiful episode with a surprising end.

That's the best Episode so far, there are many points where I was really on the brink to cry out loudly.

I think in this episode happened nearly to much for just 20 minutes, but maybe it should show us that at some points in the life, there comes everything at once good things and bad things.

This Episode makes the anime to my favourites.

We got a backstory on Yoshino's life which was good.

Okazaki is doing good in his job and got a recommendation but his father's issue just
ruined it.

I know it's kinda sad for Okazaki's condition but I don't feel crying or teary at all. Maybe, I'm not in the mood to watch :/

The marriage thing came out of nowhere. I wonder how things will play out.

Damn Tomoya's father!!!! He ruined his right arm and now he's ruined the opportunity for Tomoya to get a promotion. And all he could do was sit there with that shit eating grin on his face. Damn, I hate that man for what he's done to Tomoya's life!!!

No wonder Yoshino seems to be a bit devoid of emotion...he had a hard life after his music career.

This was amazing... I can relate to some things in these last episodes of Tomoya's life.

This was indeed a very powerful episode, and I'm really afraid that the life Tomoya and Nagisa have won't allow them to be happy in the true sense of the word. The fact that they will be together might be sufficient enough to allow them to go through the obstacles (I'm afraid to think) that will eventually come.

Yoshino's voice seemed pretty good during the back story.
Matranga failed when yelling at his dad though.

the proposal wasnt random, it was simply at that point that tomoya realized that he needed nagisa in his life (forever), and vice-versa

personally i find that proposal much better than the normal orchestrated proposals here in western society

Wow things just got horrible 4 Tomoya... but at least now he'll be married 2 Nagisa! Yoshino has a pretty interesting story... i loved his enthusiasm with the music he preformed =} i feel bad 4 him though... i didn't cry 4 some reason but i felt like i should... it's hard 2 believe he injected himself with the drugs... he's lucky he didn't die! and 2 come back 2 the girl who loved him... after all that time... he has it good lol but anyway... poor Tomoya hit the wall with his right arm! OUCH! his cuts looked horrible XP i had a pretty bad face seeing them... i can't even imagine what Nagisa was like... and it sucks his dad's in jail... but i jus wanna look 2 the future! Nagisa and Tomoya are getting married! ahh it's so cute!!! =D

Wow, Yoshino rock star back story! And then comes home and (eventually) marries the teacher who inspired him!

It was totally cool that the ealier episode with Misae's back story was at the same time and we unknowingly saw Yoshino in the background and being referenced in the student council meeting.

I dread to think what Tomoya's dad got arrested for *shudders* but Tomoya will have another chance sometime in the future! He is still young!

And proposal out the blue! Yey! Tomoya can finally have a happy family life.............. -_- I fear the Clannad plot style will have something to say about that.

Oh my gooddddd what an emotional episode. You know, even though Tomoyo's father isn't exactly the ideal father, I can't help but feel bad for him. Just a little bit. He has done a lot to destroy Tomoyo's life, it's true...but every time I see his face in any episode, I can see a little bit of guilt. While I can understand Tomoyo's anger and frustration, I really wish they could just sit down and try to talk things out. Then again, maybe I am just overly optimistic.

I was definitely surprised with the proposal at the end. I knew it would eventually happen, but I think the timing is weird to ask such a thing after you've just punched a wall and there's been no signs of kissing, or any intimacy past friendship. My guess is that it's because the Japanese culture is different. I think Japanese are a lot more conserved with their relationships and don't show it much in public, or before marriage...maybe it is reflected a lot even in the animation.

Um, this anime was a tear jerker. Especially during Yoshino's story...it was sad but beautiful how he found love that way.

I was feeling wired for not crying with Yoshino's story, though I ended up doing so in the end, but I didn't expect to end up bawling once again. The proposal was great though! Loved it. As for Tomoya's father... I don't really get him. I think he loves his son (in some wired unorthodox manner but still...) but his actions and his imperturbable grin make me hate him. I'd like to understand him better... Poor Tomoya, not getting that position because of him. He deserved that job, he worked hard and got the results just to see it all shattered by his father. I understand why he'd feel that way.

Episode overall was very touching.

But ... I mean....at least SOME KISSES before MARRIAGE seem reasonable, no? T_T This part is not really what life is like...

Yeah, okay, you might believe all their intimate moments are happening off-screen, including kisses. I personally am not convinced of this because they still make a big deal of holding hands and being called girlfriend and boyfriend. Even considering Japanese modesty and reservation and stuff, this wouldn't be the case imo.
But even if we assume kisses are actually happening off-screen, then a kiss at the marriage proposal is what I'd be expecting in real life - sad moments and anger before that or not, this is just an emotional moment, how can you not want to be as close as possible?

I'm not really buying into the off-screen argument, but each to his own. Episode was still more than solid.

Re-watching this anime and it never fails to amaze me. Yoshino's story was very well portrayed. I like that it was naturally heartbreaking and wasn't shoved down your throat like some of the other stories in the first season such as Fuko's and Kotomi's.

Wow what a great ep. Too bad Okazaki couldn't get the job because of his father; i see him wanting to marry Nagisa as a way to escape his issues with his father. That emotional scene between Okazaki and his father gave me chills. I LOLd when Yushino thoight he was cool telling Ibuki that he was going to be a rockstar and hoping on the bus smiling; then when he comes back he starts crying LOL dark humour i know. Great soundtrack to his story as well. 8.4/10.

The proposal scene was kind of romantic.
It sucks that he lost the job because of his father.

O MY GOSH, TOMOYA PROPOSED!!!
Great episode! Yoshino's story was sad, but very true for many people. Tomoya's dad got arrested, and Tomoya couldn't hold in his anger against him. Sometimes I think that when people hate other people like that, they want to forgive that person, but their pride doesn't let them. And Tomoya proposed to Nagisa! I like how Clannad takes everything nice and slow instead of "Let's jump right into romance!" like some other anime, not that that's a bad thing, it's just nice to see a change once in a while. I love the advice that Clannad gives, real world stuff indeed. Next episode will be great, I just know...and a toilet seat cover.

I am overwhelmed. This is without a doubt the best episode in the Clannad franchise so far, and I hope the series follows this way in its second half.

The story of Yoshino is a master work on how to make a cliched moral tale and actually put enough strength and emotion in it. It was perfectly delivered, I just can't point at any flaw or weak element in this narration. The explanation on his motivations for singing was surprisingly eloquent and the last scene with him crying and kneeling in front of his future wife is one of the most devastating this series has managed to bring.

Tomoya in this episode displays a huge part of his character development through the series; he is clearly not the same guy who finished school. This episode makes a big effort at making him look mature and confident, which makes a great contrast with the later events and how he isn't able to deal with a thing from his past.

But my biggest surprise was in Nagisa, the scene at the swings in special... She showed an amount of sense and rationale in a very critical situation that leaves me amazed, it's as if she had grown a lot in these last episodes. The way she clips Tomoya's wings in that scene and moves him back to reality was something totally unexpected. And it's not that out of character: the discourse has still a touch of innocence that suits her. But she was really diplomatic in there.

The last part with the father was intense, not specially due to the punch, but because of how Tomoya immediately -almost as a reflex act- associated it with him ruining his life; I think this episode has shown what the series was lacking till that point, an actual measure of how much resentment Tomoya feels towards his father.

What can I say, a very spot-on episode in everything it brings, one that makes the characters look human and not just tools. I didn't cry but I felt the story more intensely and more deeply than I ever had. If I end up loving Clannad: After Story, it will be because it has kept making episodes like this by the end of the show.

Edit.- A kiss? Yeah, maybe, we can imagine it, right? The scene where the couple walked hand in hand is also something we hadn't seen till this point, and they seemed to do it with naturality. Maybe they are not showing things to us, because they are not considered relevant to show.

Very dramatic episode. Tomoya's anger at his father was captured perfectly. But I can't help but think that his marriage proposal was rather impulsive, like his idea of leaving town to get away from his father, like it was a culmination of everything that hashappened to him up to that point.
Showing them holding hands was not only natural but symbolic of their relationship, knowing that they would be there for each other. I don't think that a kiss was necessary.
Would love to know why his father has his attitude.
Despite the simple appearances, there is a definite real-world feel to this anime, and I am really enjoying it.
