My MAL uses "Tags" that describe the Anime to help search/sort them. In addition, The translation of many of the Anime titles are included as the first tag.
The Tags are broken down by Group (Use shorthand to search):- Genre: Action (Act), Adventure (Adv), Comedy (Com), Drama (Dra), Fantasy (Fan), Horror (Hor), Mystery (Mys), Parody (Par), Romance (Rom), Sci-fi (SFi), and Thriller(Thr).
- Content: Violent (Vio), Ecchi (Ech), Historical (Hst), Mecha (Mech), Slice of Life (SoL), Supernatural (Sup), Video Game (VGm).
- Tone: Dark (Drk), Emotional (Emo), Psychological (Psych), Silly (Sily)
- Type of Anime: Reboot (Rbt), Season 2 (S2), Special (Spcl)
- Well Done Technicals: Visuals (Vsl), OST (OST), ~dub (~db), Dub (Dub)
- Other Tags: Awesome (Awe), Classic (Clsc), Old (Old), Ghibli (Gbli), Favorite (Fav), Reading (Read), Rewatch (Rwtch)
Some less defined tags are as follows- Emotional (Emo): These are probably going to tug on your heart strings.
- Psychological (Psych): These "make you think," may or may not be a thriller that messes with your head. (i.e. Plastic Memories makes you think about what you would do if your life had a set end date.)
- Silly (Sily): Goes beyond Comedy. These Anime don't take themselves seriously, so you shouldn't either.
- Visuals/OST (Vsl/OST): Really high quality art or soundtrack. Pay attention when watching.
- ~dub (~db): Primarily means that I haven't watched the English dubbed version of the show. In most cases I would suggest watching the subbed version. If ~dub and Dub are tagged, both versions are good.
- Dub (Dub): Primarily means I've watched this show with an English dub and it was really well done and enjoyable(possibly more so than the sub). If ~dub and Dub are tagged, both versions are good.
- Awesome/Favorite(Awe/Fav): Pretty simple, but I enjoyed these a lot. Would likely appeal to a wide audience.
- Classic (Clsc): Not necessarily an Anime from a long time ago, but one that you should definitely watch when you're really getting into Anime.
- Old (Old): Older art style, almost all of these are from the '90s - early 2000s.
- Ghibli (Gbli): All Anime by Studio Ghibli. They are not tagged, but Disney has made amazing English Dubs of these. They are highly suggested
- Reading (Read): These were either so good I had to get more of the story or so bad that I ended up totally unfulfilled and had to get the source material. Either way, I'm reading/read the LN/VN/Manga.
- Rewatch (Rwtch): I will/have rewatched these Anime multiple times. All of these are good in my book.
Rating System:- 10 "Masterpiece" = Personal favorite with very few technical flaws
- 9 "High Favorite" = Personal favorites with some technical flaws or very well executed anime, regardless of personal taste
- 8 "Very Good" = Enjoyed watching, but not a personal favorite. Few problems, but didn't affect enjoyment
- 7 "Good" = Anime that don't have any major flaws and are overall enjoyable
- 6 "Nothing Special" = No problems watching through the entire anime, but didn't have anything that really stood out. "Average"
- 5 "Struggled" = Had a lot of trouble watching the entire show, took breaks, but didn't want to drop at any point
- 3-4 "Should Have Dropped" = Forced myself to finish because of some reason, typically because of an "Anime Contract" or to understand a sequel/parody/reference
- 1-2 "Should Be Removed" = Seriously? Why would you watch these? Without my anime OCD these wouldn't make it on my list...
Recently Reccommended Anime: Overlord, Shinsekai Yori, Code Geass, Kousetsu Hyaku Monogatari.
My future plans include adding:- Age Groups: Shounen, Shoujo, Seinen, Josei
- Further Content: School, Harem, Vampire
- Further Impact: Uplifting, Motivation
- Fixing Thriller & Drama to accurately represent the anime
