THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
A battle broke out and all the major players made it out alive. Kazuho is proving to be a very effective antagonist and Ichise, despite having next to no dialogue, is proving an effective lead. Actually, I think the cast in general is great if not exactly likable.

Listening closely, it seemed like I could hear the sounds of rats during the riot.

I'm still not exactly sure how Shinji-tachi fit in to all of this.

Ichise went berserk for no reason at all, what's up with that? Anyway Oonishi is one cool boss, I like him!

This series is getting really interesting as the story moves on and all those who stopped watching the show in the first ep, because of the silence don't know what they're missing. Extra material of the rat having some dialogue to the female doctor was pretty hilarious.

That was pretty messed up! Were there three parties involved? I could only identify 2, Organo and the gang that wanted revenge. I mean I didn't notice the cult guys!

And Ichise just let himself go or what?? O_o

The brawl scene near the end was absolutely awesomely directed. With this, Shigurui and Steins;Gate Hiroshi Hamasaki is proving to be one the best anime directors out there. Can't wait to see what he's going to direct next.

But great episode and this is shaping to be a masterpiece. It indeed does seem that it is greatly underrated in MAL.

Pretty much messed up episode for me... I hope the mess will get cleared up n the next episode... First of all I didn't recognize the third gang.
I wonder if Oonishi's secretary is... human?
Ichise went berserk and the... wait, what?
Kazuho is close to the point where he'll get on my nerves.
Oonishi totally owned Shinji

Great Episode, action packed and really interesting specially if you try to figure out why did Ichise went berserk.
Is Organo controlling him somehow?

Kazuho is one evil dude! :)

Maybe Ichise went nuts because he's been through so much and he's losing it a little. Anyway, he was a boxer. Punching is natural for him.
I love how Eriko is totally oblivious to what's going on. She just wants to experiment. She doesn't care what's going on.

Does anyone know if Kazuho's roll in the story is an allusion to the ronin from Yojimbo? The stories aren't exactly the same, but each story contains a lot of the same elements.

Anyway, I guess I have to rewatch Yojimbo. It's been a long time so I can't quite make the complete connection.

They were the ones responsible from the union explosion. She was punishing them, I guess.

So far, I can't find myself getting attached to Ichise whatsoever.
Maybe it's his impulsive behavior and lack of internal dialogue (or much spoken dialogue)?
Though, I don't think the latter is the case because I find Ran and the first episode rather interesting.

Other than that, I really enjoy the three gang dynamic and Kazuho's antagonizing plots.
It seems Oonishi has found interest in Ichise's bravery and fighting skills. I think I'm finding some hidden respect for Oonishi and I'm hoping he doesn't completely shred that with whatever intentions he has with Ichise.

Ichise isn't quite right in the head it seems and might never get over the texhnolyzation procedure. And Kazuho is the devil himself after having manipulated everyone this way.

It's interesting that you brought the film Yojimbo up. From what I understand, Kazuho is trying to incite a war between the two main factions of Lux for reasons unknown at this point. This is similar to the situation presented in Yojimbo, where the main character wanders into a town occupied by two gangs and decides to make them fight each other, because he thinks the town would fare better with both gangs dead.

Great episode.
If Kazuho's motive is to let the 3 gangs tear each other apart, its going pretty well XD
Well, Ichise finally seems to get used to his texhnolysed body parts. His roar clearly indicates the frustation he is in.
And, Onishi knows his trade alright.

Ikr, i muted that scream. Got annoying after first 2.5 seconds.

Is this what the rest of the series is? Some shithead started a war and the two sides fight the whole show for no reason? Waiting for Ran to have some major significance.

Why's he throwing punches at people for no reason at all this episode.
Actually I don't find much to like about his character in any episode.

Didn't watch this for a while and I'm not exactly sure who the biker gang faction are, besides appearing in the last episode and being on some sort of terms with Kazuho.

It wasn't very clear but I think Onishi chopped up some of his own guys and delivered their limbs as a peace offering before the big fight. Not sure what they were supposed to have done as I thought everything was Kazuho.

I used to try and over analyze this series but I find it much more enjoyable when I watch it without pausing and such, letting it all soak in as it comes. I may be missing out on some specifics but I'm still keeping up with who's who, what they're doing, and why. So I'm happy.

Old old post I know, so sorry if you get an unwanted notification. Doing this more so to clarify these questions for later viewers as a lot of people are confused.
Anyways, I think he's releasing anger from the texhnolyze process, from what it did to him and all he's been through, he can't control himself. I'm assuming maybe Yoshii even sent him there somehow, maybe that's too far, but he definitely seemed to influence him by telling him to use his anger in a more effective way.

Yes, they were the ones that came forward about blowing up the place, but either 1. they came forward for the prestige of it, or 2.Yoshii set them up and they took the bait. Either way she cut them up and Onishi brought them with him to meet the Salvation Union as an offering of peace, to tell them he's so against the war that he'll kill the people who tried to start it and offer them to him.

Is Onishi the only person in this show that's sane and reasonable? lol. I'm surprised he hasn't been killed off yet. It's usually what happens to these sort of characters who are the voice of reason in a conflict/faction.

Those are the guys who went out of control and burned down the crazy flesh cult guys' hideout. He removed all their prosthetic limbs and offered them to the cult guy for peace, but then Shinji's gang shows up. Then, when Ichise shows up and starts punchin, one of Shinji's guys tries to shoot Ichise, misses, hits a cultist, and it winds up as an all-out brawl. The brawl seems to be primarily b/t the cultists and the Rakkan (Shinji's guys), with just Onishii and one or two of his bodyguards caught in the middle.

I do wonder about Onishii's wife?/secretary?/driver? whatever she is. Maybe she's also from the surface? Maybe she's one of the old fashioned Gabe people who can talk to the city like Ran? I didn't check if maybe her eyes were a different color? Supposedly the people of Gabe's eyes didn't change the last time the city ppl's eyes changed.

Huh, the politics are mad confusing, I don't really get it. All I know is that there's multiple factions in Lux that each hold their own ideals and beliefs about becoming technolyzed and stuff, but aren't actively fighting each other. Like this dude Shinji is like Onishi but representing an organization of a lower social status. I guess a lot of this show is going to be up to interpretation, at least in the beginning

rewatching I'm starting to think the mole rat always symbolized what Ichise represented in society - the nasty piece of shit u see in the streets. we saw it in early eps but not so much anymore iirc bc he got texhnolyzed and basically leveled up, that's my interpretation. kinda explains the shouting too since he's a lot less civilized with his speech compared to the rest of the cast
