THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
This is getting better and better. Is it just me or Erin looks more and more like Soyon?

New students have now entered the school and Erin is an instructor...New young girl Shiron (?) is rivaling against Erin <_< But she is a bookworm and rely too much on what's written in the books. Actual experience is more important though. And she seems to be motivated by the wrong reasons (well, you can blame her father's sexist attitude)

And she learned an important lesson by watching the birth of a young Oujuu...

Then, the Shin-Ou herself is coming to Kazalm to visit the newborn Oujuu. I can sense something big coming.....

Beautiful episode is all I can say.

From the preview, as expected, bad things are going to happen. And I have heartache for where this could possibly lead to. (Having read the ominous summaries of the third and fourth novels didn't help, even though they will not be animated for now - probably)

the next episode looks like it's gonna be a good one. This show keeps getting better and better. It's probably one of the most unnoticed shows of this season.

I could see the royal family finding out and then using her idea of the harp to control beasts again. Iaru needs to do some face pwnin again.

I'm surprised more people aren't watching this. It's one of the best this year.

One of the best episodes of the series. It was simply beautiful, and the next ep will probably as good.

Ah! Aru is super kawaii! You would think the idea of a "wolf chicken" would be ridiculous, yet they really are adorable and majestic all at the same time. Love it!

Blah, that evil guy from the palace creeps me out. Iaru definitely needs to swoop in and rescue Erin again.

I agree, this is one of the best shows of the year. Can't wait for the next ep!

One of the best? Which are better or at least as good as KnSE? I would gladly watch them because I consider KnSE as one of the best shows I've ever seen (and I've seen quite a bit).

As for the episode, it was brilliant, I loved it. It's a shame that only 13 episodes are left.I wonder too whether poison-guy spilled the beans about Erin or not. Personally I have no idea. It would be consistent with his character if he didn't tell him but on the other hand this is sth that is hard to conceal since the prince will go to Kazalm anyway. So it would be safer for him to tell the prince.

I disliked this episode. It might be the only one that I've given less than a 3. Shiron really tanked it for me. Using her as some kind of vehicle for something was a terrible idea. She reminded me of the kid with glasses when Erin first got to Kazalm.

Oh well, the Queen is coming, and I'm sure there's going to be some great drama.

Don't worry, Shiron is not playing an important role anyhow.

...for now, at least.

I dunno, I chalked her up as a 2-D "abused anime character" about the second time she repeated herself about stuff being in books. She obviously has no mind of her own, and I'm sure by the end of the series will be singing a completely different tune, and be feeding it to others. It's sorta obvious how she'll end up.

More disappointed that there even was a character like that in this series to start with than anything...

They're lazy sometimes, like with the recaps episodes... Guess they didn't want to put much time in new almost not-appearing faces.

Nice episode. Glad to hear that Shiron isn't important... I prefer to Erin and her beast-lords. The Queen will visit and so will Damiya. Gawd, seems like Damiya is going to do something with Erin and I don't really like that idea. T_T

Erin is a master at Kazalm there was bound to be a student or two who would be bringing their own little conflicts into the story. So, Shiron's role was understandable for me and honestly, I felt bad for her. I'm glad though that she was able to get the advice and reassurance she needed from both Erin and Professor Esal.

Regarding the preview, shady uncle might reveal his true colors. About damn time~

As someone else also said: definitely not just you. She's really starting to look like Soyon, though she kind of already did before - as in, even when she was still just a student. I remember Nason (Nasson?) - the guy who was supposed to be Soyon's fiancé, who's a part of the Mist People or whatever they're called - telling her that previously as well.

It seems to me that Shiron actually got more screentime in one episode than any of the kids Erin studied with got cumulatively over several episodes. o_O It's almost enough to make you think that Shiron has yet to play a bigger role in the story.

I'm getting the feeling that something big will happen in the next episode too... or at least in future episodes. With regards to Erin and her whole secret, of course.

I don't like this. The queen is coming over for a visit and there a chance, the queen/princess will take the baby or the whole family away.

At the same time, its good a thing, because Erin can now face the Queen and move on with the story.

Touda lay eggs and Lilan gives birth, like a mammal.

Regarding the bookworm girl, I thought Erin had to be hurt, so she can understand why Erin was chosen.

I have a feeling that the visiting queen is going to screw up this little happy life they have going on with the Beast Lords . . . I just hope the queen isn't stupid enough to say something like "Wow that beast lord baby is so cute, let's take him/her back with us"

It was a great start for the new phase in Erin and Lilan's life, the birth was as beautiful, and special as expected, no seriously, I was moved. Erin is also looking great, I like her uniform!

I didn't like how bratty that girl was though, but we got to know her reasons for being so desperate, like her relationship with her father, that doesn't care about her potential at all just because she's a girl, and I couldn't help but to sympathize with the girl. Although it was pretty annoying the way she was directing her frustration at Erin. I liked how Lilan growled at her showing that it isn't just anyone that can get close to her though. But then again, she's just a kid, so it's okay. She has a lot to learn with Erin, and it would be cute if she became her fan, but I still hope she doesn't get that much spotlight. But she really reminded us how amazing it is for Erin to be where she is. It's funny, and sad how the country is basically a Queendom, but the women are not regarded as the equals of men, they are just good for marrying somehow.

Also the Queen is going to go check the baby, and I wonder what kind of development this will bring. it's seems like a prime chance to attack her outside of the castle too. I also disliked how the preview showed Damiya so close to Erin, he's dangerous! But I guess the Queen wouldn't go out without Ial, the best, coolest Sezan, so he's going to meet Erin again too, and I can't wait!

Aru.. eh?
Weird name, but so far all Ouju have 2 syllables for their names

I feel like that was too scary experience for maybe 10 years old girl?
I don't know her age, but she handled it well
Now we have another character, I hope she'll grow up well like Erin

Uh-oh the Duke seems like going to do something about this

I like Shiron, she's adorable and strong willed, I liked how she fought off sexism from her father. But mostly I liked how she was able to cheer Erin and Lilan on in giving birth.

Erin, your daughter just gave birth, maybe it's your turn now...

The queen wants to see the baby beastlord, I would prefer they carried the mother and the child to the capital instead of her and her granddaughter making a trip to Kazalm, something bad is going to happen.

I was unsure about this episode at first, but as soon as Lilan started giving birth, it turned out great. This show knows how to be impactful when it wants to be, it's one of those that manage to make me cry for no apparent reason other than real emotional investment and this is one of the reasons why I keep watching it despite my criticisms. It really can be great, and here I loved the message about learning not just through books but through life itself. Plus, it was nice to see how much Erin has grown ! I didn't expect her to become a teacher so quickly but she seems to be very good at it while being aware of her weaknesses so it's gonna be fine.

It's interesting that Erin's concerned about her role as a teacher, plus the well-being of Shiron, as much as Lilan and her baby. This shows that while Erin is focused on caring for beast-lords as always, she's also considering things beyond herself. She now has multiple roles to fulfill, but I didn't expect the show to go so in-depth into also developing her character. She really does seem much more realistic and well-rounded now, akin to an actual person.

Also the issue of gender roles in the show was brought up early on before Jone helped Erin enroll into Kazalm. I almost forgot about that, but it's finally brought back in full force now. I'm wondering how much it'll be explored. That being said, I don't like how Shiron being buried in books is portrayed as a bad thing. Books and real life experience should be given equal importance in the context of Kemono no Souja Erin. For Erin, she came into Kazalm with some knowledge of literature, but primarily had hands-on experience with plants and animals. She had to work hard to adjust and compromise her own unstructured life style and the academic institution. Shiron's going into Kazalm with the opposite challenge, and I don't like how the use of books is treated so callously. I get what the show's trying to get across, but I think it's a bit too much.

I have fairly large issues with the pacing of this episode, but Lilan’s birth was so beautiful that it makes up for those problems. I also quite enjoyed the differing viewpoint offered towards learning. I’ve talked at length about Erin’s natural curiosity, and I liked the way it was put against pure book learning through the lens of Shiron. Queen and Damiya are coming to town. That’s not ideal…
