So, no eye loss for Tahomaru? Will it be from Hyakki then?

As an episode from an entertaining medieval fantasy series, this was pretty good.

4/5

As an adaptation of Tezuka's work, from what I saw of the original and its 1st adaptation, it's now clearly a full-on reappropriation who lost its initial themes to the benefit of entertaining personal drama.
I guess the director didn't care for the thematic or thought nowadays TV consumers don't. It's a choice...

@Mormegil But you do care about the elder? I wonder how you reached that point...

finally a close up on Hyakkimaru's junk. that's what everyone's been waiting for
I actually really did wait for that, thanks MAPPA. Now i can die happily knowing he has a dong.

And I can't die yet as I also demand to see Tahomaru's too! Bonus point if he's together with Hyakkimaru in river or onsen.
And did I mention in previous episode that I also want to see more of Dororo's dad in less cloth....

Actually i started to sympathize with Tahoumaru right from the start: him feeling unloved by his own mother, desperately trying to make her recognize his efforts and yet getting nothing... I mean, lady, can't you go and pray for Hyakki AFTER you give some attention to your other child?? Even after Tahou blurts that it's him, not war, she seems not to like and she answers with "What mother does not love her child?", her thoughts instantly turn to Hyakki, and Tahou sees that distant look on her face again. Ugh, painful.

At this point i like both brothers so much that it makes me fear the next episodes. I'd like them to talk and sort things out and then have a brotherly hug, but then there will be no story :)

Me too. I think she doesn't love him so much or at all, but she thinks she should do as Tohoumaru's mother. She might consideres Hyakkimaru more as her child than Tahoumaru and with this sentence she meant Hyakki.

Although he has a face of a selfish character, Tahoumaru is a good guy after all ...

I'm glad they went this way with Tahomaru's character rather than making him one of those spoiled crybaby types

This episode really made me like Tahomaru. I think he acts the way a leader should, unlike his father who’s just power hungry. Tahomaru seems to genuinely care about the people. He and Hyakkimaru finally meet in the end. I wonder how he’s gonna react when he learns who Hyakkimaru really is?

Previous episodes, I used to think Tahomaru was simply the spoiled, full of himself son of an important figure, but this episode changed that. He's far more likeable now.

Tbh, I didn't like this ep as much as the other ones.

Tahomaru's pretty cool despite Daigo being Daigo and it's nice that he wasn't as unbearable as I thought he would be.

It would've been a funny twist if Tahomaru's crusade againt the giant enemy crab ended up giving Hyakkimaru one of his body parts back and accidentally breaking the pact with another one of the 12 Demons, making his father's situation worse in the process. That didn't happen but Hyakki went to see what the commotion was all about at the aftermath of the fight and ended up getting spotted by Daigo from afar instead.

I bet that he didn't count on his abomination of a son to look so handsome and stoic after so long~

Looks like the show is nearing its climax, I love how they shifted the focus on Tahomaru, a rare case of character that I happened to label him as the evil jealous younger brother that would want to kill the older brother for whatever reason, but now, he seems like a genius person with great potential to be a kind ruler to his people.
Too bad he didn't see Hyakmary's family crest when they were passing by him. I thought Tahomaru was going to be close in terms of fighting skills, but Hyakkimaru destroyed that crab with one shot, maybe because he was already worn out? Call me biased, but I'm' giving Hyakkimaru the edge here.

On another note......I only saw Hyakki missing one leg and two arms while he was "bathing" [*grin*] and of course he's missing sight...so everything else he's missing must be internal and we wouldn't necessarily see him getting it back...unless he winces or something.... (does he have like sense of taste for instance? I wonder....)

maybe he's missing his dick

it's hilarious that Tahomaru killed the monster that his dad is trying to protect lmao

Daigo would be so pissed if he finds out Tahomaru's helping his brother unknowingly

on the side note, the crab monster looks yummy...

It's kind of strange when Hyakkimaru deals a single killing blow and then everyone even the prince left the scene immediately, like NPCs going back to regular life, but maybe the rest is for next episode.

I imagine further down the road the prince will hunt Hyakkimaru in an attempt to make his father proud.

Weakest episode so far. Boss fight is such a bullshit.
First frame shows us strength of the crab's armor, and in the next almighty main character already cuts him with a flick of the wrist. Moreover, he beats not even in the unprotected places between the plates. This is sooooooooo sad for such a great anime.

So Tahomaru's sword managed to cut a giant crab's skin ? If it's wielded by Hyakkimaru it's understandable, but otherwise I don't buy this crab.

Tahomaru uses quite the tactics and teamwork to defeat the monster compared to his older brother Hyakkimaru who goes the brute force way of 'chop chop'. Man if only Tahomaru knew about what his dad really has done to get prosperity on his land.

The brothers finally meet. Sort of.

At first I was thinking, wow son 2 is gonna kill this monster and Hyakki will magically get a body part back without knowing why. Then I'm thinking, man, son 2 is a smart, capable leader and strategist.

I wonder if 2 saw Hyakki's family crest. Surely once 2 finds out Hyakki's true identity, having witnesses Hyakki save the servant dude's life, it will mean something to 2 and he won't want to kill Hyakki...

It was refreshing asf to see another battle, one of strategy and wit. But it was funny when everyone got overconfident and were on the brink of death. The fated meeting was awesome, and hykamura's brother is actually likeable asf.

I feel like Hyakimaru looked at him with sadness, I guess they are brothers, and Tahomaru is innocent still

Tahomaru is really getting suspicious about what's going on with his parents and rumors of a guy with prosthetic arms and legs going around killing monsters. The thing about him is he looks evil just like his dad, and he could have just been a entitled prince, with all the ruthlessness Daigo has but he's surprisingly thoughtful, honest, and deeply cares about his people. Unlike his father who got everything he has by selling his soul to demons, Tahomaru has earned the trust of everyone around him. It was incredible the way he first listened to the villagers' story and did not doubt it, then went to take on the sea monster with his companions, doing everything possible to not sacrifice a single villager- taking on the monster by himself even. I really hope his arc isn't tragic like his parents' is fated to be- Tahomaru is a really terrific guy and a true leader. Even though the monster itself was a bit silly, it's the story that counts. This was a great episode.

@CCC47 Yup! Every demon that is slain, takes something from the land and gives it to Hyak. So his son is his own undoing.

I also just realized the mark on his forehead. Mark of Cain reference?
