Sorry! Been a bit busy recently, just moved back home and had no access to PC for few weeks while redecorate my room and now I'm going to fly out again in a week for holiday (back to Japan wew).
For some reason I really want to visit USA but at the same time kinda afraid (cause of guns and news surrounding that), but honestly I would love to visit as many places as I can while I am still able to do so. I think top off my list of South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand would be nice too.
Oh yeah I have heard a lot about people doing host exchange but it can be hit or miss, like if you get put into a family that doesn't really care about you etc. Another thing you could do is going to that country as a student under language school? I know Japan does that when I was originally looking to go there for university. Right now I decided to pick up self-learning Japanese again so went out and got some textbook to grind into.
Oh no yeah, just be wary a lot with how times have changed and since lots of things are now online. Likewise the same with flat hunting because I know of some places where the landlords asked for a deposit to view the place, which is like uh red flag. But then I also know of agency where they required you to apply and put a deposit down before you're allowed to view the place (because they only want serious applicants and I guess that's how they narrow the list down). One of the place I was trying to view had that procedure, and my bf's family got their current place through that as well, so I guess take some things with grain of salt but just be cautious about things!
But that's good that your job like you, do you think you will get a chance of progression soon or would you be jumping the boat to somewhere new anytime soon?
I think if we do end up going together, he know he's just going be drag everywhere and just have to bear it, but at least he get delicious food at the end! Though I have a long list of countries I want to try tackling with him so hopefully we will one day see the end of that.
I wish schools had more language options tho. I think they really only offer the European and more popular Asian (think Japanese and Korean) language in college or you would just have to go for language classes. Any plans to try self-learning spanish now?
So a banana in this context is like someone who can't speak/write the chinese language (referencing the yellow on the outside, white on the inside). I think some people might think of it as a negative term cause it could show that they reject their own culture, probably because they were raised in western setting (like asian americans etc). I just think it's a harmless way to identify myself since I can't really speak my mother tongue language.
Haha, that's good that at least you get to have some time for yourself since you thought you would probably be swarm with work. I'm currently in the unfun-employment bit of life, been job hunting for a bit but the market is bad right now so just got to get through it.
It has the high school students development - falling in and out of love, individuals finding out what they want to do, characters development, building friendship. I'm near the ending and for me I think it was a lot of nostalgia but it has been a great read so far. So you can see if you want to give it a chance or not from that!
I like window shopping (at times) but I think it's also the things we like seeing that are different so there's that too. So hopefully when I get to go with my partner the next time I will try to see it as my first time and see how that goes. Though my partner is the type that just go with the flow while I'm the one doing the planning so hopefully he will enjoy it then, with all the walking I'm going put him thru.
I would say I grew up speaking it? My parents only talk to me in English but it's my mother tongue language, and some of my older relatives only know chinese, plus in our schools they make us learn our mother tongue languages as well so I would have eventually pick it up. But I never did enjoy the language, it was easy when you're young/in primary school but it got more complicated in secondary so I kinda just gave up on it. So now my mandarin skill is really bad, probably can speak it to a conversational level so I consider myself a banana.
I thought they would have more chapters from when I last stopped but there wasn't much since then, but the storyline is easy to remember what the plot was about. And that's totally understandable! Work is work so just reply when you have the time to. Hope you have a good week and look after yourself since work is getting busy.
If you're into romance comedy then go for it, but if that's not your type of thing then I don't think the manga will be something you enjoy. It's one of those typical high school romance main character finding herself sort of plot, just with more green flags around.
I liked the characters development, Yukine probably the biggest but Bishamon as well- I think they all have their own shine just a pity with the ending but not something I regretted picking up and finishing.
I read one few months ago where a group of japanese guys did the nasty things to a high schooler girl years ago(which also lead to her death), and then when the guys got reprimanded for their actions one of the guy's mother blamed the victim for destroying his future. So yeah, influence from upbringing is probably one of the biggest factor since they were never taught what is consider right and wrong from the young age.
Honestly, I think my first trip was a bit of a let-down? Maybe I had high expectation like Tokyo going be great and all, but things turn out differently, like I wasn't expecting myself to like Kyoto the most of the three major areas I visited. Also maybe because I went with my mom and her friend - so with certain factors for me when I travel I like to walk and explore a lot, whereas because my mom and her friend is on the older generation, they probably couldn't do the same as I could. Also our interest in the trip was very different, like I said I like exploring the places if I could and try food, but my mom's friend is more into shopping? and she's also a vegetarian (bit laidback with her restriction) so there was bit of clash of things. I would like to go back again, I think if I do it again I would do things a bit off the beaten path? Since it was my first trip so I guess I did more of the tourist stuffs, and maybe if I could go with my partner the next time it would change my perspective of Japan.
It didn't really hinder a lot of my journey, but the big stations did make me anxiety with how busy they are, like Shibuya but I got over it after a bit so its manageable. With Osaka I guess it's because they have one station that is basically the 'main hub' and if you're visiting you're always going go through there.
I managed to pick up Japanese a bit faster, or understand some kanji easier than people who are freshly starting off since I speak mandarin, but the whole strokes do throw me off a bit since Japan follows the traditional way whereas I grew up learning simplified chinese. I hope you get to go one day, and yes planning is probably going be the biggest factor! When I went the yen was on the weaker side and often when you're traveling you don't track your expenses so you might run through them quickly too.
I'll let you know if I ever get to it, I caught up to Spy Family and finished Tomodachi Game recently and managed it quite fine so hopefully can pick up a new series in a bit.
Their latest season got release this year, and they always had a good size fanbase since the main leads are kinda green flag, so I guess people are really into that. Watched it really long ago so at least when I start the manga I won't have much memories of it so I can go in with a fresh start.
The ending did also kinda made the entire plot kinda 'well, why didn't that just happen earlier' since Hyori was always the key from start to end. Yeah, and Nora knows that so she use it to her advantages, seeing how he get easily flushed just from her being up close to him. Though it was nice to see Yukine's development, from how he acts in the beginning to him having more thoughts behind his actions.
Yeah, they do but it is interesting to read! Ultimately it's more of a 'wow I can't believe people are able to do that' sort of feeling, but then the people who also commit such things probably had some issues in their life that led them to become who they are. Guess it's also a 'well better be cautious of people cause you won't know!' I really love Kyoto with all the nature! Surprisingly Tokyo was okay for me, some of the busy areas made my anxious go off since I'm always bad with big crowds. Osaka felt really busy, even more than Tokyo (surprisingly), but I guess it's also because Tokyo is bigger so their population is more spread out.
I can speak and understand basic cause I did it for a bit at university as a degree before having to switch due to personal reasons, so I have friends from that course that have moved to Japan after their year abroad, so for some bit of my trip I did have someone who could help me with translation. I did survive with mostly pointing if I can't say the words + there will be a few phrases you hear a lot so after a while will pick up on so you will be fine if you do go one day!
I looked it up after you mentioned Fire Punch and it might be my type of thing so I might try to give it a shot, let's see how that goes!
I might try to start Kimi ni Todoke since that was on my challenge list (and it's been popping up on my tiktok feeds with the latest season release). If I manage to get through it that will be like a 'woo yay!!' so I guess Pandora is on a pause for now since I don't want to continue on it while feeling this way since I want to experience it fully.
Yeah, I totally get that! It was a good read regardless, but I feel like some parts did get rush - like the ending was a 'well that's it...?' since I feel like ending are one of the best/important bit since it close off a journey, which I couldn't really touch on since that would heavily influence your decision to read plus its spoiler.
I did think that the whole Yukine falling for Nora romantically was weird since I feel like if someone were to just kiss you suddenly you would be more inclined to be creep out. But I guess from another perspective Yukine never did experience youth and he die without having many knowledge of such things, plus Nora did come onto him with the innocent act that she got abandoned, which Yukine probably relates to in some way so he resonate with her which resulted in what we saw.
I enjoyed reading up on history stuffs like real life cases of serial killers, find them interesting. Haven't really got into the podcast part of it but maybe one day. Also sometimes countries historical background - went to Japan and visited Osaka Castle earlier this year, didn't think it would be much but actually really knowing about the history behind the castle. And then sometimes I watch bits of kdrama.
I might be able to but I won't withdraw, most of the times when I try the challenge if I can't complete it I just don't hand it in, since it wasn't successful; which has been all the years I tried so was hoping this year would be the one.
This is so late and I'm sorry D: I've just not been getting much of that interest in watching/reading nowadays, I guess the mass reading has become a burnout (surprisingly tbf).
Since its been like 2 months have you end up starting Noragami, and if you did, how are you finding it so far? If you haven't that's also ok; what have you been reading nowadays? (beside the weekly/bi-weekly series you stated). I haven't really touch my challenges since then and honestly not sure if I will seeing how my progress is right now. Also relatable, I used to catch up with weekly release on animes but nowadays I touch 1-2 episode a day of some of the old series I started long ago, then never see it again till few weeks or months later.
Sorry! Haven't really been on the site. Yesterday could have been a good day to catch up on the manga since I couldn't really sleep but I missed the opportunity. Maybe today I will read double digit chapters.
Noragami was a good read for me as far as I can remember. I don't want to say much because it feels like it might influence your thoughts but if you liked the anime you probably would like it. I say give it a shot and if halfway in you kinda think it's 'eh' then you can say you gave it a try as you drop it.
It's manga music video, lots of editors do them and I think its been rising a lot more recently. I doubt it was but it was one of those sentimental feels video so I guess that's what got me wanting to read it, plus it just make me want to get to that scene faster. I doubt there was anything but since I don't really know the plot of PH yet it doesn't struck out as anything major to me (and honestly I have already forgotten what was in it).
But I got through some chapters, nothing major yet at my point so we'll see!
I'll give it a listen but recently I got through like 2 chapters so big jump! Also I saw an Pandora Heart MMV today that has kinda inspire me to pick it up again so we'll know in a few days time.
Sorry for the late response, I've been busy with some stuffs!
It just make movement on the screen smoother, so if I have to turn my camera perspective a lot, it gets to me and give my head a ride.
Anyway, I've been on a slow start with Pandora Hearts, but the beginning is also off on a slower end so it has left me a bit of confusion but I guess more will be explain at a later bit. I'm on chapter 4 right now,
at basically from when Oz got sent to the abyss and left with Alice and it's not yet explain in the manga but I'm assuming theres a bit of timeskip since when he woke up he was very obviously faced with an adult Gil, but of course Oz doesn't recognize him.
It's going off on a slow start so it hasn't fully drawn my attention yet but I'm hoping the fun bits start soon
No, just the usual gaming stuffs that has lots of having to move mouses about like L4D2 or Lethal Company. I don't get affected by fps but I haven't try Apex so I don't know how far I can push it. Surprisingly games like Honkai and Genshin also can affect me so I put the FPS on it down to 60 since my monitor is like 165fps.
That's alright, I hope the vacation was good and you had fun! I also officially started Pandora Heart today so I will tell you about my thoughts when I get deeper in.
The feeling is torture having to wait depending on which magazine the series is publish in. You will never know if you have to wait a week or a month or a few because of translation process too. And knowing myself, I have quite a few mangas that were still publishing when I started and is completed now but I haven't got round to it because it's been so long I've probably forgot the story plot thus not in my priority list (hello Haikyuu and Kaguya-sama etc).
Ngl I didn't think motion sickness would be such a big thing in my life, like I get it when it affect me while gaming but didn't realise it affects me in daily stuffs too. guess we find out in weird ways
I've not check online, but I've been into the physical libraries at some cities and a lot of times when they carry mangas, its normally the western version, so like Batman and those etc. They did have some japanese mangas but it was only 1/2 of the more popular stuffs if I remember correctly. But with how everything is now, I'm fine with just accessing it online.
