Fair enough. I don't know how old you are now, but given you referring to middle school as your childhood, I'd assume it's been at least a couple years? I find it odd to leave a full review on a series you haven't seen in that long. You're allowed to have a differing opinion, but if I'm not wrong about how long it's been, it feels like you didn't give FLCL a fair chance. Especially since the biggest criticism in your review seemed to miss the point of the characters.
Also it's kinda funny that your brother liked it while you didn't since it seems like most diehard FLCL fans are guys who first saw it as kids/teenagers lol
Question: did you rewatch FLCL before making your review? I couldn't tell with how it was worded.
I disagree with your main criticism of the anime. Yes, most of the characters are terrible people, but I'd argue that FLCL is the kind of show where there's a point to it. A lot of what the show's about is what it means to be an adult and growing up; having all the adult figures in Naota's life be terrible role models is kinda the point. They're examples of adults who never grew up, and examples of what Naota could end up like.
That being said, I can't blame you for simply disliking FLCL. It's not for everyone and that's fine.
Bannana Fish is an outlier, one that I would be hard pressed to ever consider showing to young girls. However my point still stands, and I would probably take points off of Banana Fish, if I ever read it, for the very same reason I took points off of Children of the Whale.
As a side note, Children of the Whale and Banana Fish differ - from what I can see Banana fish doesn't have a female cast member in the main group, CotW does. Or well, CotW would if they actually used the women in the manga as anything more than ornaments.
My main criticism for the manga being labelled as a "shoujo" was not the action itself. As a child I loved Naruto with all my heart and that was full of action. MY issue with it being called a shoujo is because it doesn't feel like it's made for young girls - the only women in the cast are shoved to the side, the two literal main characters being men. THAT was why I said it felt more akin to a shounen.
I don't know where you find the energy to take on so many bigots simultaneously, but good on you for fighting the good fight! Don't let them bring you down with the insincerity and hate!
Probably best not to engage with too many ragebait replies in my currently reviving thread, though I appreciate you trying to keep the conversation relevant regardless of each of our personal stances on male audiences
Hey dude, your critique of 91 Days is the most disappointing review I've come across. I strongly advise against continuing to explore the world of anime.
After they got revealed to their true selves? You mean when they switch from avatar look back to themselves?
I don't remember anything of the sort, and if there were some asshats harrassing someone there definitely wasn't any fascination about it from Kirito ???

But yeah what you say now makes more sense, though i don't see anything weird with someone reminding him of his sister/cousin
And yes his cousin has a very unhealthy crush on him, but it's portrayed as that, unhealthy, wrong, disturbed, and she does ultimately realize that
