Although there are general differences between the animes the first time I watched Digimon on TV I thought immediately hey - those two animes are almost the same - the names of both of them are called after the creatures and those creatures are manually receiving orders from a human to defeat another pokemondigimon creature and in order to beat a powerful creature the digimonpokemon has to develop skills or evolve to another shape their form in order to win, and both of them (especially the adventure series) is an adventure in the world of the creatures to make some kind of goal, and that  read more

both main characters are stubborn, both involve battling and monsters.

When I first started watching One Piece I thought "wow, this is like a mixture between DragonBall and Pokemon." - main characters are similar (kinda slow, don't give up, their hats, their hopes & dreams) - strong theme of friendship, dreams and never giving up - similar art style and very similar music - lots of travelling and seeing new places - each new crew member in One Piece is like a new Pokemon or team mate is Pokemon If you like Pokemon you will hopefully like One Piece and vice versa

This series has the same form: A boy who wants to be a champion on some leagues, that meets his non human partner on the first episode, some guys who are supporting him, they both live only with their mother, a group of guys who wants to steel Pokemons/medals (such as Robrobo group/team Rocket) and the most important - the leagues.

These shows went hand in hand in the 90's and early 2000's as the go to popular children's anime both containing a plethora of amazingly designed monsters with beautiful art styles and character designs. Both shows follow young protagonists who battle/duel opponents with these monsters and aim to be the best in their field. They both have huge multi-media influence with masses of video games, card games & movies spawned from the original shows. The art style, characters, OST, humour & world building are all top notch in both of these classic shows.

Both invlove a variety of bizarre creatures that do battle and are based on video games. Monster Rancher's quite a bit darker than Pokemon, but still primarily directed at children.
report Recommended by MugiwaraSilver
Both iconic children's anime from the same era who feature young heroes who ally with their respective monsters and battle alongside them against various friends and foes.

Kids - heroes of the anime - are collecting magical creatures and fighting a group of bad guys that keep getting in their way. The creatures can either level up or otherwise get stronger and continue fighting each other.

Both of them are based off of a video game and they are both about a boy who learns more about his animal type friends and they both have alot of action in them.

Naruto is about a Ninja who is looked down on because he had the Demon Fox sealed inside of him. He progresses afterwards so he became famous in his home town. It's similar to pokemon because Ash wasn't good when the series started. He just had patience and was not lazy to achieve his dream, just like Naruto

Both stories are about kids, cute & powerful creatures and adventures.

Same vibes where the main characters are very similar. Although the premise of [C] might be dark, it's actually full of hope just like Pokemon. The main character Yoga is like Ash in a lot of ways. He also has a pokemon, in which it is termed as an "asset" in the world of [C]. Msyu is the said asset, who acts just like the pokemon Pikachu. Pikachu though the cuddly and cute-looking one, is actually the one who has a deeper and more human-like personalities than the humanoid Msyu. Both are very DEEP.

Both are aimed at a younger audience, and both have humans taming/training/ battling with a form of monster.

Both main characters have sidekicks that aren't human. They meet them at the beginning and fight together as partners.

Young boy catches warious monsters, stores them in portable device and then lets them out when needed. Both are episodical anime for kids.
report Recommended by abystoma2
Both are shows targeting mainly on kids. The main hero is a young boy who obtains some creature/hero contained in some device (pokeball/disk) and battles with said creature/hero against other device owners.
report Recommended by abystoma2
Both are mid/late-90s adventure anime about a group of friends travelling to accomplish a goal and their shenanigans along the way. They've even pursued by some bumbling villains along the way. Slayers has more serialized story episodes than Pokemon does, but the episodic episodes in Slayers are enjoyable in a lot of the same ways that Pokemon is.
report Recommended by ChangeLeopardon
Both are action packed supernatural stories that focuses around the characters taking on various misadventures and share a ya cast in them.
report Recommended by Disapeared_Ghost
In both animes, the main characters collect monsters to defeat other monsters on their journey. Also they have to defeat bosses. Persona 4 is a much darker anime though And finally both are amazing video game series
report Recommended by Tyler_Kurono
Both are based around notable video game series from Nintendo that tell their own stories within their worlds and have a focus on humor and what day to day life is like in those worlds too.
report Recommended by Disapeared_Ghost
They both are centered around one kid who becomes the hero and tries to make the world they live in better place.

While Pokemon is an older show, both feature very young adventurers setting out on a journey.

battling, but this time using humans, and you're called a conductor....

Both feature fictional sports. Keijo is a bit more edgy though

Unique, powerful monsters in an interesting land that leaves you wanting more. In Toriko, you capture food, which 9/10 times tend to be these awfully powerful beasts that even puts any legendary pokemon to shame.
report Recommended by minikobe27
In both shows, the main character (Minato in Sekirei, Ash in Pokemon) recruits new team members to use in battle after getting said team members to bond with him (in Sekirei, Minato "wings" new Sekirei by getting them to fall in love with him and then kissing them; in Pokemon, Ash catches new Pokemon after getting the Pokemon to trust him). Then the protagonist of each series has to use his new team members to battle other Pokemon trainers(in Pokemon)/Ashikabi (in Sekirei) in a tournament (although there isn't always a tournament in Pokemon). Keep in mind that Sekirei is not appropriate for kids at all  read more

Both of them feature young protags exploring in a slightly altered version of a normal world filled with magical creatures with each having their own personality and roles where sometimes could be captured and tamed. Both also features a more comedic tone though one is a bit darker

Monster battling RPG, except this anime appeals to teenagers a little bit better than Pokemon.

If you... "enjoyed" the Aki no Puzzle experience, you shouldn't miss the uncensored episode 38 of the Pokémon's original series, "Dennō Senshi Porygon". There's strong seizure in both. I hope you don't watch this seizure stuff, too.

Both anime work in the same format. Meet a new girl/pokemon, has a good fight with them, beat them, and add them to the collection.

Both have Main Characters wanting to be the strongest person. Both start with Main character and the partner hating each but they learn to like each other.
report Recommended by deerock
Both have tournaments for becoming champions. Daigunder has robots that talk instead of pokemon, and actually ends in 39 episodes.

They are both fun shows that at their peak popularity, no other anime since has been able to reach, helping to familiarize anime to westerners.
report Recommended by 2Mainstream4U
Funny, long running kids anime that can still be enjoyed by older folk. They're both silly with similar animation styles and weird animal sidekicks.
report Recommended by CxttonCandyyy
I watched some episodes of this show back when I was a kid & the complete first season, last year. I found it very similar to Pokemon with the themes like never giving up, trying until you succeed, determination, self-confidence, team work etc. Although, Pokemon is the better show, Inazuma 11 is nowhere less, especially the 1st season. Also, the soccer shots are 🔥🔥🔥!!!
report Recommended by Kaibutsu09
-Both anime's have a similar type battle -Both have a similar league in purpose -The protagonist is little bit childish - Comedic in a particular way -Both have rivalry

They both involve some kind of animal getting out of a fighting box (in khr! it happens in latter chapters) the boxes in khr! and pokeballs in pokemon

In both anime, the protagonists are on a journey, where they make friends, meet weird creatures, and so on. Also, both are animated by the same studio.

Mushishi, if one is interested in vast philosophical questions, can be somewhat similar to Pokemon because it's about these mushi, which are like spiritual bugs, and the protagonist goes around managing them... other than that, though, it's more about dissolving conflicts than actual battling with the mushi or other characters. It's episodic too, so doesn't necessarily continue on with the same storyline as Pokemon, but still has the same atmosphere through the 50+ episodes. The music is really beautiful and appropriate too.
report Recommended by Seyfert
Dragon Collection is Pokemon in disguise. Hiro is Ash, the dragon pup is Pikachu, cards are balls, Green Pepper Gang's Meatmania is Team Rocket.
report Recommended by Nazgand
Both involve using monsters to fight and have collectable card games and such. also both based on video games. Though blue dragon has a more interesting story (not vastly) and reaches some sort of conclusion rather then just dragging it on and on for many years. It also has characters designs by the man who made dragonball and music from the composer of final fantasy games which should hopefully get you interested

Both are your monster fight of the day type shows aimed at little kids.

Build Strike Gundam, I choose you! Stay with me here. Both are well established franchises (one by Nintendo, the other by Bandai), where the focus has been to deepen their respective 'universes' with new various types of units that were added with each iteration. But with the addition of Gundam Build Fighters, both franchises now have championship style competitions where people of various ages fight duels through their respective avatars (pokemon/gunpla) to try to become 'the very best'.

Both of these feature young ones trying to become the best trainer they can be. Only main differences are that in Pokemon, the main character is a boy, but in Angelic Layer, the main character is a girl. Also, in Pokemon, they fight with little monsters, but in Angelic Layer, they fight with customizable action figure/doll gladiators. Angelic Layer is far shorter than Pokemon, though.

Both anime are about a group of friends that met on their road and that are travelling through the world or their country together. Also both anime are episodic and most of the episodes focus a lot on the costum, tradition, beliefs... of the country they're visiting. And friendship is one of the main theme in both anime.

Both iconic children's shonen anime with young protagonists who battle alongside/against sentient monsters and their friends. Both have great art styles, character designs and monster designs.

Both super popular & iconic kids anime. Both follow children heroes/mc's who befriend their own series respective versions of monsters (Pokemon & Bitbeasts). Monsters from both series seem intelligent and have many varied designs. Both series have battles where the humans use the monsters to battle against others.

Classic children's anime, likely both gateway anime for so many of the same demographic, they have fantastical and amazing world building, characters and monsters. They are both really good at selling dreams to kids of their respective fantasy lands, which in turn translates to insane real world profits.

Both have similar aged, heroic main characters that their target demographic is made to identify with and admire.

Yugioh and Pokemon are pillars of childhood for many anime fans and are often what can be thanked for interest in the medium as whole. Both series follow young protagonists with monster partners who seek to conquer the competitive scene in their respective worlds and come out on top (re: King of Games, Pokemon Master). The sense of humour and art styles of both of series' are top notch. Protagonist's from both shows are competitive however mostly seek friendly competition out of love and passion for the activity yet are destined to clash with many dark powers, people & entities that raise the stakes of  read more

Both have very simplistic plot lines. In Michel their are little creatures called "fairies", in pokemon, their are little creatures called pokemon. Their is also a side kick gang known as the "black hammer" that is very similar to "team rocket". Michel the main character along with her side kick kim must travel around the world to collect these fairies although for an entirely different reason then pokemon but both shows can be enjoyed by kids although michel is aimed for an even younger generation
