I completely understand what you mean about how our views change as we grow. It’s amazing how, as we get older, we can look back at something we loved years ago and notice layers or insights we missed before. It sounds like your journey with anime and manga has really shaped how you approach stories, and it’s really cool to see how much reflection and growth is involved in that. A lot of people miss out on that deeper level of connection when they just casually watch things.
I really admire your open-mindedness when it comes to genres outside your usual ones. It’s easy to dismiss something that doesn’t fit our preferences, but your approach to giving every show a fair shot shows a lot of maturity. You’re totally right that each show can offer something to the right audience, even if it doesn’t always click with us personally. It must give you such a better appreciation for all kinds of narratives.
The fact that you've been watching anime since 2004 and reading manga since 2006 is remarkable! You’ve witnessed so many changes in the medium over the years! I’m really curious though. How do you think today’s anime and manga compare to the older series you loved? Do you gravitate more toward the classics, or do you find yourself drawn to newer, more experimental series?
It’s fascinating that Full Volume explores such a complex topic, especially when it comes to how men and women are perceived online. The way appearance and identity are shaped by societal expectations plays such a huge role in the online world, and stories like this do a lot to challenge and break down those stereotypes. What’s really powerful is how it shifts the narrative, with a male character experiencing the pressures often placed on women. It’s amazing that you connect with the characters so deeply, especially given your own experiences in the streaming world and how those dynamics shape your own journey.
As for recommendations, I’d like to share a few that I think you might enjoy, too. A Silent Voice is one I can’t recommend enough. It’s got that deep emotional resonance and deals with themes of redemption and understanding, which I think might really speak to you given the way you describe the importance of realism and empathy. Another one that comes to mind is March Comes in Like a Lion. It’s not just about a guy who's struggling, but it’s about how he learns to deal with his emotional battles and how people around him help him grow. The emotional depth in both of these is something I think you’d really appreciate.
It’s clear you’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on the impact of streaming and the online world, and that kind of insight makes conversations like this really rewarding. I’d love to hear more about your thoughts on how stories in general reflect real life, especially ones that deal with identity. I think it’s easy for a lot of people to just passively consume content, but your perspective shows how much you engage with it.
I really appreciate the recommendations. I actually took some time to read a little about The Warehouse, Cold-Blooded Beast, and Full Volume, and they all sound so intriguing in their own ways. The Warehouse especially caught my attention with how intense and psychological it seems. Cold-Blooded Beast has such a unique premise, and Full Volume sounds like it has a lot of depth beneath the romance and comedy, especially with the backstory of the main character. hat must make it even more interesting for you as a streamer to see a story explore that kind of world, even if your own content is different. I imagine certain aspects of the streaming lifestyle in the story might still feel familiar in some way.
I also completely understand wanting to wait until a series is fully released. The wait between updates can be frustrating, especially when a story is so engaging. It is nice to be able to experience it all at once without the suspense of waiting.
By the way, no need to apologize for spelling. I really appreciate you taking the time to write such a detailed response and share your favorites with me. I will definitely check out your list when I have the chance.
lemme know about your fav yaoi manga/manhwa/manhua
