This is a story of two people who have autism and are trying to just live. This story will make you cry, laugh, and make your heart hurt. If you are neurodivergent and have gone through abuse (... like me) this story will hit close to home. I stayed up till 2 am trying to finish this manga as i was completely hooked emotionally in these characters. Although I will say at times this relationship can be toxic, i do truly think these characters are learning, and growing together. The portrayal of mental illness was done pretty well for the most part, I do think ... that the self harm at times was a bit harbored on. overall do highly recommend this story to anyone.

Hi, this is my first manga review in here. I found this manga by chance and amazed by author's portrayal of relationship with mental illnesses. At first, the intro seems not much to tell but as the story progressed, I really like how the characters develop. I thought this will be another manga who glorified mental illnesses as a topic (which I found hypocrite) but surprisingly, it touched my heart sincerely to see Yokoi and Saitou build up their relationship.


I put 10/10 for the story. I find it rare to convey the life of mental illnesses, especially to make it so thoughtful. Not only ... about living mental illness, the story also able to understand how other people dealing with people who have those kind of hardship.

I have no complain about the art, although I don't really adore Saitou's hairstyle.

I kinda agitate at first to put 8/10 for the character because in the beginning, I cannot really like both Yokoi and Saitou's personality. Yet, as the story progressed, the character development is changing my perspective. I began to found more personality from both of them, and side-characters, that I really like.

Although i really want to put 10/10 for enjoyement in reading this manga, I dismiss one point just because I am still anticipate the development between two main characters.

All in all, this is really a manga worth recommending. I can't wait to see the next chapter soon.

Asper Kanojo is not a story for everyone. It can often times be hard to depict such flawed characters and make them still relatable in a way that doesn't cause self-deprecation. This book definitely toes the line by no means does anyone want to say they affiliate with Saitou or Yokoi but these people are feel truly real in a way I haven't read in many media. Their interactions are so interesting with all the side characters throughout and the new turmoil's they face. One reading one of these sad works of fiction could possibly feel like its just a trauma dump and you should ... feel sad because life sucks. Asper Kanojo isn't that, we see stories told with quite a bit a nuance, and despite having some similar topics spoken on throughout it never felt like a stale read or like a monster of the week equivalency. The struggles Saitou and Yokoi suffer through they all feel like real things and this very loud forefront struggles Saitou deals with we always see what Yokoi deals with in the background.

Aside from a very interesting story written well by Mr. Hagimoto. The art is frankly stellar the way they show the pure terror of things is done so well such as several scenes related to Saitou which are harrowing to see for the first time they just manage take her stare freezingly terrifying.

Overall I can't recommend this work for everyone as it covers some very heavy subject matter and also it's quite hard to read for Americans for free to the end but I would strongly recommend support the artist at Kodansha where you can read the final 2 volumes which give in my opinion one of the more complete endings I've read

10/10 life changing piece of media (for me)

I could have rated this a 10 honestly but the ending was kind of abrupt but then I guess thats a symptom every slice of life has. Anyways the entire story is a very compelling read and it doesnt fail to make you feel that coping with developmental issues just cannot be solved by some flowery prose and it will constantly remind you that it is a process that you just kind of have to tiptoe around hoping to find the correct rhythm to both address and prevent issues caused by the aforementioned developmental issues.

I also guess this is the author's love letter to ... his audience that may have experienced similar things to tell them that they are not alone that have experienced the same pains and that one can be hopeful for a future like this.

Also the comedy can be hilarious at times - its not a lot but once its there, youll appreciate the break and realize that the FL is as human as anybody else. Lastly, it is just a very sweet series. Its full of hopes & dreams that gets slowly realized as time goes on and I guess thats because thats what the author intends us to interpret.

Anyways, 9/10. I just want more content honestly.

Underrated doesn't even scratch the surface. I believe this is one of the best of all time.

Hard to describe. Boy meets girl, but then you add mental health issues, and extremely realistic ones at that. You add a horrible past of abuse, and another past of loneliness and isolation. We keep adding, we keep changing, and we get a full picture of two, deeply hurt people, trying to live “just one more year”. It's a message about the world surrounding an autistic girl; a message about a man who hates people, but doesn't want to, a tale about life and finding those people we ... can travel with, towards a happier tomorrow.

The story starts with some newspaper carrier, and hentai artist that makes extremely bleak manga as passion projects that almost nobody reads. One person knocks on his door, and it's a fan of those projects, a girl that, for all intents and purposes, doesn't really plan to go away from this house. They start living together, getting to know each other, and it spirals into one of the deepest manga I've ever read. Life continues for these two as they become the only ones that understand each other, or that at LEAST try. It turns into a story of healing, but about the realistic repercussions of the process. It isn't easy, it isn't pretty, and the author shines a light into every aspect of it. Awkward, strange, heart-breaking, even hilarious. The good times, the bad ones, it comes and goes, and it feels like something special. I believe it's something special.

You won't have it light reading it, and you'll always hope nothing bad happens to anybody, but life is always about tribulations. We fight for the good times, and people like here will always want the easier way out. They speak about killing themselves, they almost go through with it sometimes, but they always come out on top, not with roses, and rainbows, but through the grit of their teeth. A constant battle against life, but one in which we have somebody to hold our hand, and fight with us. Themes of loneliness, autism, abuse, bullying, revenge, forgiveness, situations where you'll never forgive, retrospective, love, sex, mental health, suicide, self-harm, it's so many, and it's all through the lenses of real, unforgiving, life.

It's all shown with art that focuses on the close-up. Faces, the eyes, the expression, the piercing looks, the warm ones, the smiles, it's entirely focused on the human. It never decorates the frame, not does it intrude in a horrible moment when it happens. It happens as is, and the good moments are just as paid attention to. I love the art, and even if it becomes slightly sloppy with page-spreads, I still love it for what it is. It's got problems with perspective shots and showing a whole body doing an action, but since the rest is perfect, I have no qualms.

The characters are perfect, the situations are perfect. If anybody needs to be used twice, they will, but if not, they don't need to be here. It's laser-focused on the elements that matter, and I love stories that do give us time to breathe, but understand the need for a story to be effective. It doesn't waste your time, and any lighthearted moment that needs to be there, will be there.

This manga changed my life, my outlook, my feelings towards people. It touched my heart, and it broke me at many points. I've re-read it so many times while waiting for chapters to release, but yesterday it finally ended (with the Spanish scan, thank you Waifuswithsalsa for your work). It was perfect, that ending was perfect.

10/10. I firmly believe the story IS perfect. No other manga has made me feel like this one, and I recommend you read it. It's fun, but mostly very not fun. Worth every page turn.

The manga keeps a very well balance between the romance part nd the psychological part of the story . its praiseworthy how author manages to fit simple cliche but wholesome romance materials into this serious setup that deals with mental illness .The story goes into enough depth to make u feel empathetic for people with mental disorder by taking u through some day to daylife inconveniences that they face but still manages to keep room for some wholesome romcom scenes . i legit feel more sympathetic for people who deals with disorder after reading this manga . From suicidal thoughts to problems ... regarding communication with strangers , all these hardships faced by people with disorder has been really well depicted in this manga .

Characters:
The 2 main characters r interdependent for Character growth. The author very skillfully brings them to life by using clever metaphor nd figure of speech in their conversation. Since both of them don't feel comfortable talking to outsiders, most of their Characters growth ND introduction occurs while they makes conversation with each other. But their conversation never gets boring coz rather than introducing their problems nd stories directly, the author often does it in an indirect manner so it's not so hard for the audience to stay engaged.
This manga has a decent amount of side characters nd they played their part really efficiently . The main role of these side characters was to highlight the behavioral changes that the main characters were going through . beside that , some of them had their own backstory too which adds depth to their personality nd makes them feel more realistic.

lets talk about the art now. tbh, i think its decent.but the poses of the characters sometimes fells stiff. i heard complains about anatomy but i don't think that's a big issue. i think more than accurate anatomy, this manga could really use some good gesture . what i mean is some scenes had poses which could be lot more dynamic nd it would make the event look more interesting nd eye catching. but its not like its a problem that appears in every pages. yet i m mentioning this issue explicitly coz this seems to b the only negative part of the manga (at least for me).

this is one is one of my most fav romance manga nd a very different one at that . i mostly read manga coz of art but art isnt this mangas strongest point but almost everything else is. If u ask me " why should I read it?" I will answer"coz its a relatively rare kind of romance manga that does a very good job at being what it wants to be" . I personally rate it 9/10. But honestly, rating isn't the most important thing here.
The manga shows how people with disorder has to face different kinda challenges in places where a normal human being might feel totally comfortable . But even after all those hardships, at the end of the day they r just as much human as u r, the person who is reading this right now . They deserve to love nd to b loved.

Ya habiendo pasado un día de finalizar la lectura de este manga, me veo en la necesidad de escribir una reseña que muestra por lo menos una pequeña fracción de la grandeza de este manga. Lo lamento por los que no hablan español, pero esta review amerita que escriba en la lengua que mejor me permite desenvolverme, sin tapujos.
Sin dar más vueltas, Asper Kanojo es la historia de un joven mangaka el cual ve en su puerta a una fanática, la cual le pide quedarse con él, y esta es la historia de sus vivencias.
La peculiaridad del mismo radica en el turbio pasado de esta ... chica, y como sufrió una gran cantidad de violencias en su vida debido a su trastorno del espectro autista.
La grandeza de esta serie radica en los pocos pelos en la lengua que tiene el autor al momento de contarte la realidad de sus personajes, y como ninguno es realmente bueno o malo, sino que es una persona más.
Lo que suele tirarme para atrás en la mayoría de historias creadas por japoneses es la existencia de esos típicos personajes que son buenos porque sí, y que harían cualquier cosa por otros de manera desinteresada. En esta historia no existe esto, cada acción y suceso tiene una razón de ser vinculada al psique de cada personaje, lo cual es un soplo de aire fresco para la industria.
Lamentablemente no todo son halagos, porque debido al poco éxito de la serie, no duró lo que debería, y se siente. Hay demasiadas subtramas que se fueron planteando brillantemente a lo largo del manga, las cuales no pudieron ser desarrolladas debido a su abrupto final. Abrupto, pero no errado, ya que al fin y al cabo, en el contexto de esta historia, la realidad es cruda y las cosas no suelen ir como uno espera.
Me habría encantado darle un merecido diez a Asper Kanojo, pero los cabos sueltos que dejan la historia eran demasiado intrigantes y buenos como para dejarlos pasar. De todos modos, denle una oportunidad a este manga, que por crudo y cínico que sea en la mayoría del tiempo, es una carta de amor a la vida, la autosuperación y al no dejarse vencer por los otros.

This review may contain light spoilers, but I will try to keep those to only general things involving the general concept of the manga.

If I had to describe this manga in one word, it would be "Brave."

The main story is fairly simple, and probably one you've seen before. The male MC is a loner living a stagnant existence. The female MC shows up and integrates herself into his life, shaking his situation up and forcing him out of his routine. It's a classic blueprint that a million different stories have been built from, from My Dress-up Darling to Insomniacs After School.

The main story itself ... is also not that unusual. The two main characters are both dealing with a form of mental illness, which causes them to interact with the world atypically.

But, its in the presentation of this story where Asper Kanojo sets itself wholly apart. It shows absolutely no restraint, no sugarcoating. The female MC has Autism, OCD, PTSD, and Suicidal Ideation, and they are only presented to you in the harshest and realest light.

They are not cute problems. They are not romanticized, or shown as tragic. They are ugly, and they hurt her and everybody around her. She does things to other people that destroy her relationships, and which would drive almost any person away.

Which is what makes the romance angle of the story so deep. The male MC (who is also dealing with unspecified mental illness, possibly mild Autism or ADHD), is the first person to truly understand her. He immediately sees that her actions are not the result of her wants, but the result of her disabilities and traumas. He is patient with her, understanding, and introspective. He never stops trying.

But he also isn't a perfect saint. One of my favorite scenes in the entire manga (very light spoilers here) involves the male MC worrying about the morality of "keeping" her in his life. He realizes that she is depending entirely on him to survive. He knows that he's helping her in a way nobody else has, but he also wonders if he's truly the best person to do so. He wonders if he would feel jealous if somebody else could help her more than he could, and he feels self-loathing at the realization that, yes, he would be jealous of that.

And how does he deal with this? He channels this energy into helping her gain further independence, teaching her how to make money in a way that doesn't require her to leave the house or interact with people. He recognizes his own flaws and makes an effort to overcome them in productive ways.

It is the healthiest relationship I've ever seen, between two people who are struggling with deep mental illnesses.

The only reason I don't give this a 10/10 is the art. It's fine, but it's nothing amazing.

If you like romantic dramas that don't shy away from the darker parts of life, this is a must-read. It is dark, at times. Other times, it's pitch black. But that darkness makes the moments of affection and love truly shine.

Legitimately might be the best depiction of neurodivergence in all of fiction. It's so genuine and sincere yet also uncompromising in what it chooses to portray. A lesser story would constantly be fumbling its way through this subject matter but this is able to juggle so many different subjects without missing a beat, as well as go back and forth between being sweet and funny to depressing and gut-wrenching without any of these shifts feeling unnatural.

Content warning for self-harm, attempted suicide, and physical/emotional abuse, but if you're able to handle all of that, please please PLEASE buy the official release of this manga.

Story 9/10

Reading some reviews gave a new perspective look at this manga. How? well this manga is about people with mental disorders (basically every character you meet here has one or at least a flaw as a human being) and like pandaismnxx wrote - "I thought this will be another manga who glorified mental illnesses as a topic" well it isn't one and it is.
Story is about people with mental problems be it small or big they are shown here, we have our main leads Female lead - Megumi and Male Lead - Taku as well as ... few supports or and some background characters who also have some sort of problem going for them be it plain annoying personality or fright from loneliness.
The main story leads us to experience life of 2 people with problems how they strive to mend them, improve and adapt. How they mingle with others and how simply 2 young people start their weird relationship or more like how this weirdness grows up to become something wholesome (cute relationship between man and woman) a thing that everyone should strive to have in their life (to a degree there were disturbing moments).
The tone of the story is depression mixed with some sugar in between or you could twist it around and have a lot of sugar and some depression depends if you look at the story's present or character past.

Art 6/10

It was funny how author put some references that Taku is bad with Art (i think it might be the case of authors self reflection)(btw there are two authors i.e. story and art)
Ok so art itself now, characters are almost always gloomy with occasional smiles but for the most part characters seem not so impressive (comparing to other works of art) next we have backgrounds well i understand it's hard but a lot of blanks or shortcuts. Panel placement and speech bubbles up to standards.
Now......I saw a few really good drawings so it made feel like this artist knows and can write good characters and background but it might have been a simple cutting corners technique (to make scheduled releases) or to make the story more presentable (For readers to concentrate more story not the art).

Characters 8/10

First case Megumi, a troubled girl with bunch of problems historically and mentally with some unique skills. At first she may seem very likeable (like you don't understand why would she have history like that) but eventually you start to understand that she is not an angel in disguise but a troubled person who almost gave up but as the story goes on she tries to become someone better to adapt and it makes her seem human (unlike some manga characters who are narrow minded and one dimensional manga troupe morons<--Grew tired of it after reading over 500 mangas). Simply seeing how a troubled person climbs a mountain falls and gets up again gives you motivation to stand up in your life and can make you feel shame for giving in to weakness yourself.
Next case Taku a boring guy who after finishing high school decided to leave his paternal house and live independently, working part-time and drawing/writing manga and hentai commissions. At first glance he might seem like nicest guy in the world but the more story progresses we see slip ups and his flaws which once again brings us to the point that that simply makes him more human. Just as our girl Megumi, Taku also doesn't stand in one place he grows and cares (which was alien to him before meeting Megumi), as a guy he is somewhat boring with a rinse and repeat routine but never mistake it for a bad trait because while it might seem like so on the surface this routine is exactly what safes him from the cliff also he isn't a useless guy but a well managed grown up. He doesn't fuss about unnecessary stuff he thinks and he plans and most of all tries to empathize.
Though the biggest flaw i think he has he likes broken and he likes to repair them. Why a flaw? Usually people like that try to mask their flaws or at the very least try to shove their problems under the rug while helping other.
Next case supports, they play a small role here but they are like a nice compliment to the main dish. Some supports have issues and quite problematic ones which should be corrected (especially one girl there you will know when you read it). Supports are people people who live around them, not with them, they have their own problems to deal with and occasionally their paths intermingle with our leads and some memory is born.

Enjoyment 9/10

While reading it time simply flew by, manga had a few disturbing moments but they were compliments to the story and our characters. I enjoyed it and was quite sad that that i caught up to scanlators yet again as always there are risks of it being abandoned (all in all raws are finished 123 chapters and i've only read to chapter 40 and damn once again i will need to wait a year to infinity to finish something).

Overall 8/10

I would advise to read it for people interested in phycology in romance without usual troupes and slice of life genre + drama there certainly is one and it's not plastic more like a home garden grown tomato (natural). I wholeheartedly enjoyed it and will wait until all 123 chapters would be translated.


Once again sorry if i wrote something blurry and unreadable, sleep deprivation is to blame also on a side note my motivation to learn japanese grows stronger day by day since i kinda understand now that a lot of good mangas or light novels will be dropped or untranslated due to seinen demographic being less popular than shounen due to age of readers in western world. Unlike eastern society, western society has a lot more bias regarding anything drawn so when reading something mature always take note that possibility of it being dropped are quite high.

I'm not exactly an expert on psychological manga having only read a handful of them but Asper Kanojo is one that keeps me coming back to check for new chapters quite often. Definitely something I can't say I feel compelled to do as much for other series I read.

The story is simple and charming at first, but it slowly grows into something beautiful to read. A girl learning to cope with her mental illness and how to deal with the people/environment around her due to a budding and developing relationship with a man who she admires. These two characters and watching them grow together as ... people.. their back and forth dialogue (which is 90% of this entire manga) is always a treat. Occasional chapters miss the mark here and there but simply because our main two protagonists are present it redeems those through their interactions.

The art is distinctive enough but it can feel a bit lifeless at times. Not a big deal or anything, it doesn't need to convey any crazy action or poses and it does get cleaner as the chapters go on. It grew on me and gave me this almost cozy sort of vibe. The small setting of the apartment lends itself perfectly to this particular feeling.

A good read that you should definitely give a shot. I can't wait to read more of Asper Kanojo. I think manga that delve this in depth in such a tasteful but deep way on mental illness, depression, etc. should be celebrated.

I can't recommend this story enough. However, I will warn you that this is an adult story. Not that this has R-rated content, but it deals with mature topics. I can't praise the mangaka enough for how they handle mental disabilities and heavy subjects like addiction and suicide. A lot of manga tend to dramatize dark subjects so they have more impact on the story or the readers. Not here, here it feels real. I don't think I've ever seen a panic attack depicted so realistically. Even through all those dark things, this is a hopeful story. This is a story about healing and acceptance. ... It has become one of my favorite romance mangas and, in my opinion, deserves that 10/10.

When you normally read or watch a piece of fiction, it is to escape to a different world, to leave reality, and to go somewhere where you can see and experience things that you’d never see in real life. Asper Girl isn’t like most media, it’s probably one the furthest thing from fiction that a manga can get. Rather than being taken to a new world, you’re taken down the street into a crevice of society that you’d normally overlook.

Tl;dr I’d recommend this but I will say that it’s not an easy ride. Asper Girl tells the story of two people with very different ... disabilities trying to coexist not only with each other but with themselves. I do not have a learning disability but this manga brings attention to a group of people it would normally be very difficult to understand or empathize with.

Story: 8 Starts a little weak but as the manga continues more and more effort was put into the entire story

As I mentioned earlier, this is a story about very real situations that people face every day. There isn’t some overwhelming threat, nor is there any grand event being built up to. The story focuses on major (and sometimes) minor events pertaining to two people just living their lives and their battle with their mind and their past. That being said, there are some situations where you have to suspend your disbelief as Asperger Syndrome (the developmental disorder that the main heroine lives with) often leads to sudden outbursts that turn violent. However for the most part this manga delivers an experience that is completely unlike anything I’ve read in a very long time if ever.

Art: 9 I’m not an artist

I can’t give a very in-depth factual analysis about every aspect of the manga but I can say with certainty that the author conveys the emotion of the characters (at least the main characters) with an incredible amount of detail which only adds to the realism of the manga itself. I didn’t give it a 10 because frankly there is better-looking manga out there.

Character: 10 If I could hand out 11s I definitely would.

The most important aspect when telling a story is the characters and Asper Girl absolutely delivers on that front. Personally, my favorite part of these characters is how well their character flaws are integrated into their personality. While Saitou is typically a very plainspoken character who is completely unafraid of hurling insults not because (usually) she harbors any ill will but because that’s precisely what she thinks. She shifts the way she speaks to people depending on how close they are or if she likes them or not. Yokoi normally acts like a very well-rounded character who just doesn’t like to speak to people but as the manga continues you see more sides to him some of them are great and some of them are… well are his fetishes. These characters, laugh and cry, they have their likes and dislikes, they get jealous and they experience pain, for all intents and purposes they very much act like real people instead of characters in a story.

I think that the part that ties all of this together is the way the main characters interact with each other. Without spoiling too much a major part of the relationship between them revolves around dealing with past trauma and figuring out new ways to make sure that they can look towards the future with hope. It’s hard because sometimes several weeks’ worth of effort can be destroyed instantly in one single event which makes the path they walk that much more perilous.


Enjoyment: 9 You gotta read through it, man

As I said, this manga is real, and sometimes that hurts its overall enjoyment. Sometimes I’d get to a part or chapter where I feel like I should take a break and I decide to get up and do something else… the only problem is that the story is so good that it draws you right back into it seconds later.

There’s so much I would love to write about this manga but almost all of it dives into the realm of spoilers. I’m a big fan of shock factor manga but this something completely different, its a unique experience but it’s not completely alien, in fact, it’s more of a window into the thoughts of people that we have no way of fully understanding.

Guy is a mangaka with his own set of minor mental issues. After writing a series of depressing manga that the girl finds on the internet and deeply relates to, the girl embarks on a mission to find the mangaka. Girl is supposed to have aspergers and a wealth of other mental complications. They find each other and they SEE each other.

This series is simply AMAZING. This is a rollercoaster ride that goes in directions beyond the tropey dimensions of any manga I've ever read. The core of the story is about mental issues and offers ... some really deep insights about it. Using this core, it conveys the quirkiest of romances, the smartest of comedies, and surprisingly, drama that doesn't really aim to break hearts but to actually educate readers in understanding the everyday faculties most of us have and take for granted, and how soulcrushing it can be for people who are missing one or more of those vital faculties to exist normally in society.

I've never bought a hardcopy manga before, but after reading this, I am determined to find a copy somewhere and buy one. And it's not because I or someone I know has mental issues and relate to it deeply but because this series is just DAMN GOOD. Not once, and I mean NOT ONCE did I even feel the need, much less actually skim any lines and panels. It'd be a book I'd be proud to showcase on a bookshelf.

well the story is about Yokoi Taku that is not good with people, one day a girl that read some of his work then came to his house, her name is Saitou Megumi she is not good with people and can't control her emotion. both started living together.

the story is really amazing, the way the ... author tells how the characters show their emotions, how they feel and what they think, made me tear sometimes. it is well written. uuuh sorry but I don't know how to write something about writing/story

art 8/10
the art is really good, very fitting for the for the story and setting. the best part of the art is how it deals with some of the more serious scenes. since the art is really simple and is very unique. simple. lovely and heart warming,

the best part of this manga is the characters, the characters in this manga is the best part of the manga, the main character =yokoi tahu is a calm dude who can handle tasks like a normal person that can control his thoughts and emotions , the character saitou megumi is the opposite from yokoi since she doesn't have a good emotion control of herself, acting strangely to normal situations. not knowing how to act to other people. the rest of the cast have also unique things about them but not enough time to write about that

Asper Kanojo is an absolute gem of a manga.

Asper Kanojo is in my opinion the best romance manga out there. Not only does it give us a believable and warm look at a relationship between two people who don't quite fit in, it masterfully represents neurodivergency in both of the main characters.

Megumi is especially important to me. As someone who struggles with similar issues, and who has always known and loved people with these issues, her character brings me tears with how realistic and non offensive she is. Having a neurodivergent character in manga who isn't treated as a joke or villain is rare, and ... I think Asper Kanojo does it brilliantly.

Watching Megumi develop and grow as a person is heartwarming and beautiful, and it's just as lovely seeing how kind and accepting Yokoi is. Both Yokoi and Megumi are "imperfect" in the eyes of society - but with each other, they can be themselves without any judgement or persecution from the outside world.

I love this manga so much. Please read it.

A review for this one is long past overdue. Imo, this is a hidden diamond in the rough. On that note;

Overall, I'll give this a 9. I will admit, the story starts off very slow but it gradually picks up after they've established who's who, and what's what. I think this one of the few blind manga reads that I've enjoyed for a long while. That being said, I'll give the author credit where it's due for trying to present some sensitive topics in a way that even people like me can understand. ... Would give this a 10; but the story hasn't finished yet and I'm really hoping to see some sort of resolution that works for both of the main characters.

Although I can't say I was ever seriously bullied, I can relate to the confusion Saitou feels when interacting with people. When I was younger (and even now I have to be careful) I would often say things too bluntly and hurt people's feelings without meaning to. People would respond negatively, and it would make me feel guilty and confused. I've gotten a lot better at keeping things to myself. I don't see myself as "atypical" in this respect, though. Learning to distinguish between "inside" and "outside" thoughts is a natural part of growing up for people. But what makes Saitou different is that she ... has to continually remind herself of this. I love how she and Yokoi work through her problems in a practical way and it's not just Yokoi saying something generic and her instantly getting better. It shows that it's a process that takes time and may honestly never be over, and the joys they experience in seeing Saitou's growth. I think one of my favorite parts is seeing how their relationship affects Yokoi in particular, and how even though he is very kind it is not all out of selflessness and he still experiences crueler emotions like jealousy. The characters just seem very realistic and that's what I like most about it.

I just couldn't stop reading! I'd never read anything like it, including all the trauma and negative things the manga kept on bringing it up. I can't even say I can relate to the characters, but when I see both of them keep on trying to improve themselves, it inspires me to try and socialize more.

I love how the characters are written. Their backstory and how Saitou-San has to get over her trauma in her daily life with Yokoi supporting and helping her. It's one of those manga's where it isn't about happiness and rainbows and sometimes, it gets boring when animes/mangas don't ... have any sadness, hardships, and deaths. Some start out happy and end it with everyone dying, but in this manga, from the beginning, you already know its sad and depressing and I love it!

I was recommended this be someone in AnimePlz123's live video comments. If you're reading this, thank you cause this is something I wouldn't have gone out of my way to read.

This manga is a hidden gem in a genre that's oversaturated with the romanticisation of mental illnesses. The author handles the topic of mental illness with breathtaking realism, highlighting the hardships those with a mental illness have to go through in their daily lives. It also doesn't shy away from the impact one's parents have on a person's development.

There are a few faults, but nothing too major. For starters, the art is fairly basic. The anatomy can be fairly wonky at times, which can detract the emotional impact of an important scene. The background art is also very rudimentary, but it doesn't affect the story ... as much as the previous. Also (this isn't a big problem for me, but it might be for others), the story is progressed mostly through dialogue, so don't expect for much development in dialogue-less moments.

The manga is still ongoing, but I cannot wait to see how the author will progress the story. If I can find a physical copy of this manga, I would definitely buy it.
