A non-traditional romance because it barely counts as romance. I don't want to spoil too much but the "twist" seems trivial and anticlimactic. Despite that, the humor is good and the story is interesting enough.

The characters themselves were convincing and distinct enough from each other. The MC first of all is confident, but not a ladies' man. He's a loner by choice but he is proud about it and is NOT socially retarded. The three other supporting girls are refreshing as well as they're not your token harem girls either. T

As for the writing, the humor is punchy. The perspective switches can be confusing at ... times because you only figure out which eyes you're looking through after a whole paragraph or two.

I recommend it only because it's short. To be clear, it's interesting and it's still a good read. It's not everyday that you get an MC that doesn't dwell in either extremes, neither a pathetic wimp or an ikemen. But personally, reading it is like walking on a treadmill; you don't really go anywhere. Matter of fact, nobody goes anywhere.

Reading the description gave me the impression of West Side Story, where it's two lovers against the world, or some overly dramatic romance, or even one of those borderline ecchi manga where it's an alpha guy seducing the girl.

It's none of those.

Instead, what you get is just a simple yet beautiful story. The devil is in the details, and if you've already read a lot of manga, I can tell you that the story here paves its own paths in its own special way. You won't be disappointed if you remember that these characters are still technically kids. If you're an adult and self-insert yourself ... here, you'll only get disappointed and quickly dismiss this manga as melodramatic and mediocre.

But if you want a pleasant, easygoing story about romance, friendship, and what it entails, this manga is definitely a cut above the rest.

I also have to mention that the english translation is punchy as hell and is way better than most typical manga. The characters and dialogue are smart but not absurdly smart like Hachiman in Oregairu (which I always thought wasn't too believable).

The art style is better than usual and the characters are easily distinguishable from each other and from other manga. It resorts to chibi sometimes but rarely.

Initially, I would give this series an 8/10. It's simple, and it's clear that it never intended to be more than that. But a simple story by itself will not warrant a 10/10, hence the initial 8/10.

But then we see the main guy, Hajime, and this series goes down to 6. I absolutely hate the character. He has no redeeming traits all throughout. He is just constantly rude. He's smart, but that actually counts against him because of how inconsiderate he is with other people. Granted, he's just a high school boy, but he is a ... severe and unexplainable outlier with the other characters surrounding him who all seem smart as well but considerate. They brand him a loner but he clearly doesn't seem to be since he talks with a lot of his classmates and already has the witty chops to retort. The whole setting just doesn't justify his character being so rude and unlikeable. While a good story will have characters, circumstances, and dialogue to steer the story, the main pair got together ENTIRELY because the mangaka willed it to be.

I am fine with the most absurd core premises. But what I can't abide by are the ridiculous and unbelievably MORONIC paths that some mangaka take from there.

How am I supposed to believe that a character could be so IDIOTIC to think his life is doomed when he kills a guy in what clearly is self-defense? And this happens TWICE in the first 6 chapters. You have at least one witness on both events that can attest to it. And in one occurrence, it happens while INSIDE THE DEFENDANT'S OWN HOME! How retarded can a character be to send away the ONLY WITNESS that he ... has to prove his innocence??! It is fucking laughable. This is pretty much the only condition I have on whether I'll finish a manga or not. At the very least, the characters have to be believable. There is no way in hell, no amount of suspicion of belief I can muster to believe the idiocy of the main character here just for the sake of drama and tragedy.

If you are going to make a story, regardless of nature, refrain from insulting the intelligence of your readers please. This is bullcrap and is the lowest manga I have ever rated. Everything else you do and write after having this trash of a character is contrived for drama and tragedy's sake and I absolutely refuse to swallow any of the garbage that comes after such an absurdity of a character.

I have to say this is the most fun series I've ever had the pleasure of reading, and I'm only 17 chapters into it.

Yes, a girl like Miton in real life would be hell. She is psycho cranked up to 12. But to be clear, the presentation here isn't dark at all but funny as fuck!! It is so incredibly absurd that literally every chapter has made me chuckle to no end.

There doesn't seem to be an overarching plot here, yet. It's just simple, cracked-up fun so far.

The characters are, yes, one dimensional, but they are all equally hilarious.

The art is simplistic, but then again ... given the nature, not much should really be expected on that aspect.

I couldn't wait to finish this whole series just so I can rant on the single thing that dragged this series down from a 9 to a 7.

First, the story is simple enough. Pure luck favors the MC when an accident happens that lets him make a connection to the talented, beautiful, and kind FMC. From there, they slowly build their relationship from friends to something more. There are also two side couple stories which really aren't that interesting.

I found all the characters here satisfying, or at the very least, tolerable. Except one. The fucking MC. Yuuto has got to be one of the most ... annoying characters I have EVER read about, and I've read a lot. He is absolutely pathetic and unlikeable. Why? He is the epitome of insecurity. You would think 60 chapters or so where he is constantly affirmed by friends around him as well as the very girl he likes would improve his view of himself little by little. There is no antagonist here whatsoever. Not one single person or even circumstance puts him down as a person. But nope. Until the very end, his droning monologues about how pathetic and insecure he is makes me want to puke. His neverending apologies to his imagined mistakes is severely annoying. His chibi panic mode stopped being funny before the 20th chapter, but you'll be getting that constantly on every single fucking chapter. This is a character that essentially remains unchanged for about 3/4ths of the whole series. The only times he steps up is when the mangaka arbitrarily gives him bursts of confidence when he confesses which is so inconsistent with the attitude the mangaka gave him almost all throughout the series. What are his redeemable qualities? He's a nice guy. That's pretty much it, and he's not even that good at it. He is even unintentionally rude to the FMC and other characters several times. He doesn't excel at anything. In fact, he is pretty much bad at almost EVERYTHING, be it people, communication, studies, handling stress, confidence, amusement rides, decisiveness. Oh, and all his pitifulness carries over to the sequel, so TWO YEARS AFTER THE ENDING, he is still the same laughably pathetic guy that even a friend outright calls him out on it. You think he's gonna change after that? LOL nope.

If it wasn't for the main character, this would have been so much better to me. After finishing this, the mere memory of Yuuto just puts a bad taste in mouth. If you can stomach this pathetic excuse for a character, then kudos to you.

This manga started out interesting enough. But towards the middle, it felt like it didn't know what to do with its characters. Or maybe the only character that I found interesting in the end is the MC, and he isn't even that interesting. If the other characters had less presence and were clearly made to be just in the background, it would have been better so the story had more focus on the two main characters. But for some reason, they gave the other characters a whole lot more "screen time" which in the end actually revealed how shallow and indistinct they are. The FMC ... initially had promise, implying there's some underlying reason as to her accommodating the MC, but as the story ends, you find that there's nothing there, no explanation to her motivation, which is a big reason why the start of the story even became interesting in the first place.

Overall, the story isn't necessarily bad if you approach it as reading slice of life. But if you read it as a romance, it starts good, then ends with you wondering what the heck happened and that a lot of the chapters were pointless. Even reading it as slice of life, at times, you'll be challenged to not think of paint drying as you read it.

It's mediocrity at its mediocritest.

Super diligent and organized MC gets entangled with the very free-spirited FMC. They influence each other throughout the story and gradually change into better versions of themselves. It's not the most original concept, but the way it got executed was exceptional for me.

The dialogue is strong and lean, as well as energetically paced. No walls of pointless text to decipher. A very easy and pleasant read.

The art is par, nothing too special, but still better than average.

The characters aren't too interesting except for the two main ones.

The story itself was engaging. Humor is smarter than average and doesn't go for the typical cheap manga antics. ... Unfortunately, the ending was really, REALLY tepid and possibly the weakest part of the whole story. I'm not sure if it was rushed. It's possible that the mangaka intended it to be this open-ended, but if he did, it was a really weak way to go about it. Yeah, that's pretty much the word that stands out to me when describing the ending. Weak. To be clear, it's not necessarily bad. Just weak and clearly should have been done better.

Overall, I'd still recommend it. It's just that it feels like taking a leisurely ride along the sea and then the whole trip ends in a ramshack hotel nowhere near the beach. But the drive is still good.

This is a complete antithesis of the pathetic MC trope who constantly gets manipulated and seduced by a gyaru.

Instead, the MC is confident and straightforward. The female MC's attempts to wrap the MC around her fingers falls flat every single time. But he's not some generic ikemen. He is still technically a lovestruck guy, and his face still somehow looks like a typical, shy MC, except for his ripped body. He is in completely in love with the FMC, but that is the only thing he is unwilling to admit. For everything else, like threats to kiss and hug and be close to each other, ... the FMC is the one who always gets flustered and is at his mercy. It's quite entertaining to see.

Rating manga to me feels like it doesn't always have to be completely original. It just has to do it does well, and this series does it does that.

My big complaint here though is the quality of the art. I barely see anything cute about the FMC. She's almost always portrayed as a caricature. Even her normal face isn't something that attractive. The supporting FMC looks a whole lot better than the main one. I'm hoping this is just part of the progression though. That took this from a 9 to an 8.

It's rare to find a series with plenty of reviews where every single one recommends it. After reading up to chapter 89, I am not at all surprised. I'm also surprised that this doesn't have a "Romance" tag here in MAL.

The core here is simple. Two people find something in common (insomnia) and bond through that. But later, they each open up about why they have insomnia, their bond becomes deeper through their experiences, and the dynamic of their relationship changes.

The slice of life presentation here is easy to skim through. No text spam, and the art is gorgeous. Isaki is the second 2D girl ... I have ever fallen in love with, not just because of how she looks but with her general demeanor. I am honestly terrified as to what the author will do to these two in the end.
