These are both extremely dark stories where the protagonist is extremely powerful, but also extremely confused and not sure what to do with their lives. The "feeling" of the setting and characters are also very similar between the series. A dark world filled with despicable, but understandable, people. No one is "evil" or "good" just a circumstance of the dark world they live in. I can't go into more details without spoiling but if you liked one you are pretty much guaranteed to like the other.

Both mangas do provide a social commentary on the complex mental issues that could occur in the human's mind. Also both does have a plot, but the point of interest from these two mangas is analyzing these mentally broken people's thought process and moral compass.

Violence, sex, humor, a mentally unstable character. They each offer insight into the mind and focus on the characters' struggle to live in their harsh world.

Both works features dystopian societies, very close to our current but yet again, different. In both works, the backdrop of the setting is the raging war, but in both mangas this is not the main focus, it's the ordinary, nihilistic and full of moral bleakness lives of the protagonists that we follow, and how they struggle with it.

Both series are set in a world in which murderers can be punished through retaliatory murders performed by representatives of a government organization. Freesia is more about a single protagonist and the gritty setting, while Sukedachi 09 forcuses more on the political side of things and the kind of people that are drawn to the job.

Distopian settings; rich world building with lots of politics

Freesia and Joshi Kouhei are done by the same author, and if you enjoy scraping the inside of your head out you will enjoy reading these as well.

The art and world-building its very similar, main characters live in their own reality in a messed up world where all values have been lost.

Freesia does not focus on the mental ailments of the protagonist alone, although also important, it has a more complex story (not that that makes it better). However it strongly depicts dark themes that are also very present in No Longer Human. In fact, I would say its even darker in some ways.

- Both are dark seinen titles that focus on mentally unstable youths. - Both are set in realistic world lacking any sci-fi, fantasy, or horror elements. - Both MC's slowly loose their grip on reality as the story progresses.

When it comes to annihilation and bad stuff, both mangas are close. In I am a hero, the bad stuff is on the outside and the MC tries to keep it all together. In Freesia the bad stuff is just as much on the inside as on the outside and it sets a nihilistic tone through out the whole series. Both are must-reads in my book.

Freesia is grittier than gantz, but they have the similar existentialistic theme where you can read it both for the plot and the action. I love both and if you can stand the sketch like art and darker psykological theme you'll surely love freesia.

Both have a similar creepy vibe.

It's weird enough to have a similar atmosphere as Jiro Matsumoto's works, specially Freesia, 'cuase it has similar comic-ish art and a thematic that enclose the characters into a wicked psychology, thou the violence is much greater in Jiro's works, GOGGLE definitely leaves you the same feel after the end... Great One Shot... Great Series.... Go try both of them n_n

Both mangas are situated in the same universe... or at least in very similar ones.

Both feature the introduction of a controversial piece of legislation that empowers a particular police-type force to execute criminals in the street, and the stories revolve around a new member who has to perform this task.

-Hard hitting themes rooted in reality -The females always get the short end of the stick -Psychological trauma -Nudity

While Ichi the killer is running for the "sickest manga in the universe"-award, freesia is a bit more restrained, well not restrained, but moderate in the sense that it never tries to be disgusting for the sake of being disgusting, it's a bit more focused on the storytelling. That doesn't mean that Freesia deserves a spot on the list of "sick mangas you should read before you turn sane and don't enjoy this shit no more". Freesia has a bit more humour as well.

Alternative Japanese society in which killing is legalized under specific circumstances, and how it works out.

Violence as a mean of self development, it's never I good idea, and these two explain why, painfully detailed. Also, if you're not insane enough after reading Freesia you can always jack it up a bit with The World is Mine, which is like a clockwork orange tribut.
