Manga that feature:   realism, magical realism, symbolism, pessimism, tragedy, acid humor, trauma   Manga with characters that are canonically/heavily implied to be mentally ill and also treated like real humans rather than freaks or villains. Each manga has at least one character in the main cast who is neurodivergent.   FEMME FATALE  People forced to abide by the laws of "the system". Willing or unwilling, whether the system be legal or illegal, whether they be victims or perpetrators, they are all characters forced to play a role in the grand scheme of things.  If Patrick Bateman had a manga list, it would be this one!  Manga featuring figures navigating dystopian societies under the threat of or carrying out state-sanctioned or state-colluded violence.   Manga with a militant vibe   Some of my personal favorite manga that are underrated/underappreciated or are regarded highly but nobody seems to mention. Some manga lack an audience in the west while others struggled with translations during the times of publishing, however every manga listed is amazing and truly works of art that need more attention. |
