This episode is fine imo.

They had dungeons and a simple art style. Clay seems to the main protagonist they are focusing on this episode and she has useful abilities including one being able to sense monsters. Kinda wish they didn't introduce goblins into this episode...as they are so overused in fantasy anime these days.

Otherwise, it looks like this show is going to be a lot of dungeon exploration. Hopefully they bring in some variety.

If you've been fretting on that Dungeon Meshi greatness, mangaka Sui Futami has got you covered with his 2nd anime series of Dungeon no Naka no Hito a.k.a Dungeon People. Don't ever watch 2016's Mahou Shoujo Nante Mouiidesukara, that short series is just bad.

Ooh, a TrySail OP after quite sometime, and it's OK though. Akari Nanawo's ED is the same story here.

Clay reminds me so much of Rougo 8-man's Mitsuha Yamano in her character design, though if she's trained in combat to face the challenges of the dungeon, killing monsters and collecting dropped loot, all in the pursuit as an expert thief to find her lost father for 3 years since. As she goes deep into the dungeon into unknown territory, she encounters intelligent monsters...and deals with them ever the same. The stronger monsters beneath that, however, give her quite the surprise because of a thin wall that shields...a private room?

To think that the administrator of the dungeon is this dingy looking girl with a rather intense aura, taking care of what seems to look like residentualresidental quarters, Beilleheila Langdass may look normal, but her wanting Clay to work together since she needed help, the latter is essentially looking at the boss of the dungeon and challenging her to a duel, not just wanting to prove herself, but how far her lost father had come along...and the results speak for themselves. Rather than staying an adventurer, Beilleheila wanting Clay to manage the dungeon alongside her, it's a lot of work that the latter doesn't understand, but the former has connections that would make it seamless, and a regime that would get her acclimated to the dungeon.

VA Sayaka Senbongi comes back to tackle the dungeon once again from her adventures as Dungeon Meshi's lovable elf that is Marcille Donato. That said, it's definitely an interesting take on dungeon crawling, though how will Clay survive this with Belle?

We've gotten Dungeon Food, so now we have Dungeon People. Also, what a 180-turn for author Sui Futami to go from a Magical Girl anime to this lol.

TrySail's OP is upbeat. I'll give it that. Same thing could be said about Akari Nanawo's ED.

Chasing after her father who disappeared into the a certain Dungeon, a young thief named Clay has been tackling its depths alone. After a long search, she finally reaches the unexplored 9th underground floor. Raised strictly by her father, she calmly continues her exploration of this new level. However, in the midst of a battle with a monster, an accident occurs and the dungeon wall collapses. From behind the crumbled wall, a living space emerges. As Clay stands bewildered, a girl claiming to be the dungeon's caretaker appears before her.

Dungeon concept is basically like any other dungeon, multiple levels with each having a boss to defeat, to which after defeating you go to the next level rinse and repeat yadda yadda yadda. Ripoff Rin over here is a pretty bland character at least as of now. I think like Dungeon Meshi, this will be carried by it's worldbuilding and characters, because other than Ripoff Rin, or Clay, Belle seems and looks like an interesting character, with her being the final boss basically. Animation isn't anything crazy, but for an OLM show looks rather good for some reason.

Decent start, all things considered. Just keep on expanding the world and the characters, and this could easily be a hidden gem of the season.

My most anticipated new series of this season.

I read some chapters of the manga and it was quite dialogue heavy. OLM did a great job with the adaptation. Potential hidden gem of the season.

So this episode didn't answer what's happen to Clay's father yet. But well, it's the first episode so I'll forgive it.

Pretty dull premiere as a whole. It looked okay but felt almost soulless watching this. Hopefully it gets better now that Clay's now working at the dungeon and there can be a bit more interesting stuff happening over there since this episode just felt very flat to me as a whole, including the setting there.

Idk, seems pretty basic and doesn't have anything especially interesting going on. The MC also doesn't have a lot of personality and is pretty taciturn.

Seems like promising story and first episode.

It was funny when floor boss just started talking to Clay like it was nothing.

I thought Clay was a boy, but I guess Clay is a girl?

If so, why such a low boyish voice for the character Clay?
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

@DizietSma

OK, I've found it under the begins with "D" section of Fantasy in Hidives library, but the app is so poor that I can't actually start it. When I press play it just plays something else instead.

Great job Hidive.

I'm seeing a lot of people say this was just alright for them but honestly I loved it, tied with senpai is an otokonoko as my favourite of the season so far. I love the cute simplistic art style and the opening is great too. Definitely isn't what I was expecting, but I'm also definitely not disappointed in the slightest. Compared to some of the other slop I've seen this season this is honestly great imo. I can't wait to see the next episode, very interested in what route this anime's gonna go down

I really hope this doesn't have her wait until the end of the season before she finally asks what happened to her father.

Though I have suspicions that the "previous administrator with ties to the thieves guild" is him... but I'm not sure how that could fit the timeline. Unless he got promoted to another dungeon fairly quickly.

The dungeon have a lot to explore!
I need somebody who can love me at my worst
No, I'm not perfect, but I hope you see my worth
'Cause it's only you, nobody new, I put you first
And for you, girl, I swear I'll do the worst

If you stay forever, let me hold your hand
I can fill those places in your heart no else can
Let me show you love, oh, I don't pretend, yeah
I'll be right here, baby, you know I'll sink or swim

Not sure what to expect out of this. Generic fantasy setting, generic dungeon... Hopefully this first episode was just setup and more interesting things will happen later down the line. I'm getting some tsukkomi vibes out of Clay, so I'll see where this anime takes it with its comedy.

I will say that it was not what I was expecting just from a glance at the poster and read of the synopsis. I was under the mistaken impression that the longer-haired, lighter blue-colored hair girl (the actual dungeon administrator) was the main character looking for her father and that the shorter-haired, darker blue-colored hair girl (Clay) was actually a boy that she met along the way in the dungeon.

So there was that having to dispatch with and disentangle away from preconceived notions to get my head around the actual dynamic at play.

Overall, this is a perfect example of a series which could be something very interesting and special or extremely mediocre to lower tier generic slop. The first episode doesn't really give a good indication. It has a promising enough premise and basis from which to do interesting things (but that could be gleaned from the synopsis alone even without watching the actual first episode), but the first episode was pretty by the numbers and plain and simple; nothing especially creative or extra fun, intriguing, etc. execution-wise. So we'll see. Series like this are often why, for a lot of series, I watch two or three episodes (sometimes even four) before even formally adding it to my watch list (unless it was something I added to the PTW list long in advance of its airing, unlike this and many series where I only first learn about them as or right before they start airing).

A lovely and interesting first episode. What wasn’t clear to me is whether Clay’s father died in the dungeon because of Belle, but it seems that doesn’t matter much to him anymore. I liked the OP and ED; they are both nice.

Wow, what a cute series, and I didn't expect the MC to be a girl. This is a surprise, but also interesting.

Looks like another series like how to build a dungeon.

The 2nd girl that appeared is especially lovely. Awww
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

underrated one actually, came to know about this one while checking summer seasonal anime, the story is rather unique. I usually don't like cute girls doing cute things specially if it is a dungeon anime but damn this anime really made me invested in his story as for the first ep it's was good not outstanding or not something u will write home about but it was not bad as well the episode don't bore me and the cute expression just sold me to watch more i really am excited for its 2 ep (P.S-the animation was not up to the mark)...
