I was looking forward to this one because it seemed different, but the characters so far, or rather the one character, feels way too flat for me to really be invested. Literally everything she does is for books, and there seemed to be nothing else of note personality wise. And I'm not asking to know everything about her, but I should be able to say something about her than "she's obsessed with books".
You have shit taste, and then I have taste so shit it makes your taste look good

I would appreciate recommendations, though I guess this is already out of the scope of this topic, so that should be done through direct messages. The LNs I've picked up are Rakuin no Monshou, Genjitsushigisha no Oukokukaizouki, Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei, Saihate no Paladin, and Ore no Pet wa Seijou-sama. I'd appreciate anything close to the first two, I'm specially thirsty for Isekais/Medievalesque Fantasies, but I'm still open to suggestions.

Damn this girl has a one-track mind. She has a serious obsession, but I guess that helps her not panic and feel totally dejected. She's too busy thinking about how she can find/read something.

I sorta get Kemono no Souja Erin vibes, but with only 14 episodes it probably won't live up to it.

Aaa no Action. What bliss

So it's an isekai set in medieval times. MC a young frail girl that loves books, but is born in a... not poor but.. in a social stand that is far from owning books.
But we did see her in the beginning.. Probably in the noble part of the town with a priest.

Well.. Looking forward to where this heads

live posting:

i feel in love reading the manga, so the fact that it started off with a character that hadn't been introduced in translated chapters spooked me, but I really wanted to see the "ew, forced religion" line from the manga, omg.

i totally forgot they lived in a multi-floor building tho, whoa

aaand they didn't do the line, fuck.

oo~ nice ED!

and i laughed at him saying "no spoilers, fool!" in the post-ED chibi segment

EDIT: oh, and I'm not sure about the MC's voice, but she's supposed to be a 5y/o girl, so i guess it'd be high-pitched anyway

The first episode definitely not letting me down as a LN reader but it might turn off a lot of people and I can understand why.

The protagonist is smart and hard working, she works her way up bit by bit and build her own career step by step in order to achieve her simple goal. I like these type of isekai alot, it reminds me of Outbreak Company.

And because there are literally no action in here, the pacing will be extremely slow. I mean, 14 episodes will not be enough for her to see her first book.

How's the pacing (asking people who know the novels or manga)? I heard about this and someone said there was alot of details (people in winter staying in the houses and their activities described) in the novels. Seemed slow paced to me.

While the setting seems unusual for an Isekai it seems refreshing - not your usual annoying main character hero fighting monsters.

Then again: We have tons of other shows in this strong season (I could only watch sequeals and had already enough stuff) and I bet this show has less focused plot ... more slice of life. Which I'd find boring. Pacing would have to be pretty fast for me to even consider it. (But I heard she ages slowly without timeskips - meaning slow pace - in the novels.)

that was kinda boring, tho I like the concept of the mc reincarnated into a child of a family (reminding me of mushoku tensei) the rest of it was a sleeper. It's kinda cute and looks like a more lighthearted story but I just get the feeling that this series is made for a younger audience

5 stories is actually the tallest i've seen in historic paintings without it being some kind of epic tower or cathedral. A lot of stone structures would end up being connected by wooden terraces that eventually just got walled in and became independent facilities themselves. Things also to consider that in the western area, they weren't known for incredibly tall ceilings in living space structures. Average height of a person being around 5 foot 5-7 inches, no need. Were they similar to this anime, who knows, but don't go thinking the world was all huts and hay bells even in the middle ages. A lot of epic castles, temples, even mountain side etched palaces were all fabricated during or predating that period.

My point here is: while there were tall buildings, they were all made with bricks or stone, with wooden parts, yes, but not ENTIRELY from wood. Here they have like 2 stores from something that at least looks sturdy, but 4 stores after of pure wood - they wouldn't hold long cause of the material, and if the climate is not ideal - it will crumble even faster. Also it looks like those are "housing for the poor", wich would more likely look like slums, not like wooden barracks of soviet design.

the loli librarian its ok the girl is tender and the dream she has is interesting, this anime started fun and the fact that the thoughts in her mind are even more tender makes it better, good start <3

if it is a pity that animes like these arrived too late, people have a huge prejudice that can not be easy removed, but at least there is other isekai with girl protagonist in the season if him have better luck and it is a success maybe it will motivate to japan release more isekai's like these ^^

As a manga reader, I keep forgetting how colourful the hair is. Not that I mind; but every time I see it I'm surprised. Might as well ask, but what chapter is the first part of the episode? Kinda forgotten about it.

Still, even know, I could not imagine the pain of a world with no easy-access books. What the hell would I drink my coffee to? What if there's no coffee!?
Although, it makes me think what a fantasy reader would do in this scenario? 9/10 would probably be RIP.

Just to list a couple of biases.
Likes: A good story, characters, writing, romance, a good plot twist or something that breaks expectations (In a good way), 'backstory' and justice.
Dislikes: Bad romance, too much fanservice, the harem genre, yuri, yaoi, and bad writing.

That a slow, straight forward start. There's comedy here and there, but nothing eye catching.

well, its a new form of isekai, might take some time to digest it after all that typically isekai series. 5Episodes rule then.

I have 2 theories.

1º theory: The original Maine died. She seemed to be a very sick girl.

2º theory: Both Motosu Urano and Maine became one person.

I realize now it's not common at all in isekai animes for reincarnations to occur, instead of summoning. I assure you it is way more common in mangas. But that is just a minor detail in this.

This is not a "cute girls doing cute things" kind of lighthearted story like K-on, for example. Though if you're expecting any action out of this anime you'll be sorely disappointed. This is the story of a girl who is obsessed with books trying to survive in this world. There are a few problems she's going to solve to realize her goals, including a major one, but she won't solve them by fighting or anything like that. Think of this more along the lines of Ookami to Koushinryou, except with even less action.

Are you talking about the priest dude then that most likely intentional as he's popular in Japan and they did the PV at the end jokes about it

seriusly how can people so quick to judge with one ep? and such a low score at that? ok it may not have actiom or comedy or so dramatic but it is a nice set up so give it a little more credit.

Well interested in seeing where this will go, i never read it but the japanese and people who have seem to hold it in high regard so im hoping it lives up to it.

This a very very fresh start for isekai, not about op mc and harem.
It's all about girl just want book because she a bookworm.

Interesting

Also the animation perspective, they using old techniques similar to year 2000-2010.

It's not bad as long it's not CG. Seriously people should remember this anime using 0 CG so far and that's impressive.

This show's budget is meh but the dialogues and the setting is charming.
I laughed when Myne was like "can I break this?" and her sis went "that's my doll! you know it's my treasure yet- you meanie!"
Myne is thirsty for books lmao. The ED sure is melodic. I kind of like this show so far. Also, I wonder what happened to the original Myne of the world.

oK i don't like the pacing and structure... and that would make me drop this but...

BUT the main character is REALLY REALLY ENJOYABLE TO ME because

(1) like someone said, not a bland male overpowered MC
(2) best type of loli: grumpy loli
(3) this is probably the most important part TO ME -- I have the SAME obsession. I have glossomania (reading mania) and I'm hyperlexic, so... I can really relate to and FEEL THE ABSURD THAT IS WAKE UP IN A HOUSE WITH NO BOOKS, THERE ARE NOT EVEN FUCKING PACKAGES OR LEAFLETS TO READ AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGGH I really felt disturbed by her situation

1º theory: The original Maine died. She seemed to be a very sick girl.

I'm guessing it's theory 1 since you could hear the Myne complain that it was too hot and Urano later asking where did her voice go and after that both the mother and sister checking on her since she was bedridden with fever, so my guess is that the orignal Myne died due to fever(iirc not too uncommon in the past) at the same time Urano was sent into her body and since the body never died Urano gets to keep Myne memories and skills(language).

Intriguing premise, waking up in a world without books. Very Roald Dahl or Ray Bradbury kind of setup. Intriguing setting and premise and already a good sense of setting build up without the need of an hour long exposition dump.

Pretty disappointed on the music, I was excited it was Michiru doing the score because I really love her Izetta OST but this is is really generic, I feel like all light fantasy shows have the same template of musical style, vaguely Renaissance, highlander, European, perky violin music and a drum beat done. Theme songs aren't anything that great either.

Excuse me, but can SOMEONE pease explain, what book did she read to say "like Medieval European town straight out of all those photobooks" when there are WOODEN 5 STORED BUILDINGS? I know it is an isekai, I know this is a world with magic, but man, first she has no idea what isekai is while being a bookworm (if she didnt read Alice in Wonderland or something similar she is not qualified to be one), and after she sees some completely insane architecture and say JUST LIKE IN EUROPE. Like for real?

She said it's like being an a Medieval European town, she didn't assume that's exactly where she was. She used a comparison that made sense in her context of understanding, don't be so literal with it.

Eh, it's much more common in anime adaptations for the characters to be reincarnated than summoned to these days, same in the light novel as the original market. I think that it goes on reincarnation, summoning and transference in that order between Isekai.

Inmature LN lovers like me and people who are sick of isekai yet they still watch it are dragging the score down.

I saw many people complaining at "wtf 3 isekai in the same day" and im like "Men dafuq no one is forcing you to watch all of them".

Seriously FUCK this god damn pacing. I get that this is aimed at the japanese but fuck them.

Ruining the story telling and worldbuilding just to show the fan favourite earlier?

Hi, new user here, just finished watching this an hour ago. Far as isekai goes this is such a wholesome change of pace. Getting killed via burial of your books from an earthquake...ouch. Yeah I too was wondering in my head about the reincarnation of Myne here.

The one we see at the beginning isn't the transferred one per se...so then what happened to the OG Myne? I like that little hanging thread there.

Other than that, this world is vibrant and pleasing to my eyes. The protagonist is so hecckin cute and an informative projection to the viewer too. A more more down to earth, lighthearted isekai of it's kind was something I didn't know I wanted but I'm definitely keeping this on watch.

Kind of cute. Feels like an old-school anime, honestly. The isekai have been surprisingly decent so far, to the point that I'm almost disappointed I haven't stumbled upon the isekai trash of the season. Had no idea this one was well-known and highly regarded. And, you know, maybe if the anime industry actually adapted more quality isekai, perhaps there wouldn't be such a stigma surrounding them.

Bookworm isekai. That's No. 3 on the spot for isekai this season. A refreshing one however.

First things first. Replace that name to "Maine", that's the correct translation.

Transported into another world where your only ambition is to find and read books and only that? That's something.

I don't see why the hate to this series due to the calming slice-of-life and fantasy settings. It feels wholesome for a start, even as much as it is an isekai to its base.

Pretty good start, honest to God.

While another isekai still focused on MC guy featuring long list of cute girls, this one only consist of MC girl who thirst of book. Interesting, brave enough to take isekai on different experience.

So, what's on my expectation is, if this girl really trying to made a book, or even better, a letter and printing technique. Damn that must be great if really happen.
