Hi! I am from Germany.
Currently I'm mostly watching airing anime with english subtitles. In the past I have watched some stuff with german dub. (Including a lot of old anime which were aired dubbed in german tv.) I don't like manga that much. (But I read books - mainly western fantasy novels.)
Mainly watching series. I rarely watch movies or short OVAs because I prefer the more time to develop characters and plot a series offers. Also I usually don't watch specials and stuff like that. I might watch the recaps that are aired but I usually don't add them to my list. Too lazy and there is too much "small stuff" with it's own database entries here on MAL where I consider it already "in my list" with the main series entry added.
I also like hentai. And I like the really hardcore and perverted stuff (with monsters, young girls and rape). That's mainly because I'm into BDSM. Dominant girls are also fine but unfortunately theres aren't that many hentai vids and pics with something like that.
If I score some hentai high it usually means I liked the sex scenes and/or the scenes contained stuffs with fetishes I like. Story isn't important.
For anime I'm mainly interested in good characters and story/plot. (That's why I usually don't like ecchi that much because the charactes and plot often suffer because of the forced fanservice.) Some pure action without a super good plot is also okay as long as there are a few chars I like and the music is okay.
Music/sound is more important to me than animation. Imo it contributes a lot more to a good amtosphere and feeling when watching the anime. Also art/character design is more important than animaton. I prefer good looking things that are animated badly over ugly looking things with cool animation.
How do I rate/score?
I try to inform myself about the upcoming new anime to avoid watching too many bad stuff. Since I'm good at this I usually end up mainly watching stuff I like which means higher scores. I don't even watch episode 1 of most of the stuff that does seem like something I wouldn't be interested in. If I'm not sure then I'll watch a few episodes and decide.
There are some anime that I scored low. Usually stuff I dropped early. But also some anime I completed because I hoped they would get better later. (Example: Lucky Star - but now I try to avoid all anime with female-only cast and school-setting if the description/summary indicates that it is slice of life without story/plot.) And if I have watched I certain amount of episodes I usually don't drop anymore even if I don't like it that much - only if it is very very very bad.
Scores 1-5: I didn't like the anime. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Even not to fans of the genre. Score varies and higher score indicates that there were a bit more/better elements that I liked. But usually only less important things. If important things like plot/characters are good I'd rate it higher.
Score 6:It was okay. I'd recommend it to people that like the genre. I just barely liked it enough to finish it. And probably mainly because there wasn't much better stuff. (Usually I'd like to avoid anything below 7 and drop it early. It also might have seemed better at the beginning and gotten worse later when I already watche too many episodes to drop it.)
Score 7: It was okay/average. I'd recommend it to people that like the genre. It was good enough to finish it. I wouldn't watch it again. I usually try to wach stuff scored 8 or higher only. (But since I don't know the score before actually watching it I end up with completed anime scored with 7.)
Score 8: I liked it. I'd recommend it to people that like the genre. This are anime I enjoyed watching. I might watch it again. And I might watch sequels and other stuff. (Depends if I'm in the mood and want more of that genre.)
Score 9: Very good anime. I'd reommend it to anyone. I might watch it again. I usually watch sequels/prequels if possible. I usually liked most of the important things (story/plot, characters, soundtrack, art design) but some things were not perfect and/or the ending wasn't perfect. (Adapted stuff that ends abruptly would never be able to get a 10 even if I it was perfect in all other areas.)
Shoujo / Romance:
This usually is too boring. Your usual shoujo is based on some manga (not finished with the anime only being made do advertise the manga of course) with super slow developement. It sometimes feels they only want to make it as long as possible to make more money. Every holiday of festival gets episode and then there are some unrealistic misunderstandings and beheviour that leads to absolute no progress in the relationship of the 2 main chars. Same for non-shoujo romance that is built like this- for example Toradora.
Exceptions here (which I liked): Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun (The male main was more interesting than usual.) Itazura na Kiss (A lot of progress in that 25 episodes.)
Slice of Life:
I usually don't like stuff without a plot. Especially the characters are boring and annoying. What I mainly hate are dose "cute girls doing nothing" anime with a female only (main )cast and school setting with some boring club where they are only talking and doing nothing.
There is other stuff that might be considered slice of life that I really like. For example Gin jo Saji (Silver Spoon). There ist at least some plot and goals and I like the chars and it is not female-only.
I also love episodical stuff with super good little stories per episode and excellent characters - like Natsume Yuujinchou.
It's really only the "cute girls doing nothing" anime I hate. (Unfortunately there are a lot of these anime.) And maybe other SoL based on 4-koma manga. There often happen to be boring probably because of the 4-koma format.
Splatter / Vampires and similar stuff:
These tend to have a boring plot. Splatter = only showing as much blood as possible. Boring plot and I often dont't like the characters. I also somehow dislike most of the vampires stuff. This is mainly because I usually (there are exceptions) dislike "modern world with fantasy elements" stuff.
Which means I like vampires in a different setting: Owari no Seraph was great. I liked the setting and the 2 factions with their different characters and politics and intrigues. I also liked some of the characters.
Genres I like:
Fantasy:
I mainly like fantasy with own fantasy world and medieval-like settings, magic and fantasy races - especialy elf-like races. Princesses. Kings. Nations fighting and a lot of politics. There are a lot of different fantasy anime and there are enough I don't like because they are too boring. If it's a good mix and at least a little bit politics, some action and a few interesting chars then I'll like it.
Mecha:
There exists a lot of cool stuff. But same as with fantasy: There is also pretty boring stuff. I lik space nations at war and politics and good characters. But I certainly don't like weird plot like in Gundam: G no Reconguista. I'm not a Gundam fan that wants to watch all the ever released Gundams and act as fanboy to the old ones. If it's bad then I just don't like it. And recently I preferred Sunrise's non-gundam Mecha (for example Kakumeiki Valvrave and Buddy Complex).
Action / Thriller /Drama:
All of these are fine if the plot and the characters are okay. I also like if it's a mix of drama + some action or other things.
