This episode made none.

He's a homonculous for christ's sake! He killed their buddies! And they decided to spare him? A serial killer (Scar), a mass murderer (Mustang), and a sniper (Hawkeye) decided to spare the life of a monster... Yeah, well, Ed was there too but he's an emo faggot, he doesn't count. Anyway, am I the only who thinks this is stupid?

They had no intention of sparing Envy- Riza was going to take care of him herself. They just didn't want Mustang to give in to his anger and bloodlust.

You really don't pay attention, do you?

His whole post was full of mistakes that where because of lack of attention. If you don't even get what you see then don't try to analyze shit.

On to the next scene, Alex (admitedly with a considerable effort) gets the upper hand on 1v1 fight against Sloth. Looked good? Yes, pretty much. Was it reasonable? No, not really... Was it PREDICTABLE? Oh hell yes! Or did anyone think that was any chance, even the slightest, that Sloth would succeed his objective and kill Alex and Olivier? Gutless show is gutless.

Next episode! The death of Sloth! Oops spoilers?! No, how can it be a spoiler when it's so predictable?

So the good guys won and because of that fact the anime is obviously shit since it's predictable.
Well then i guess 99.99999% of anime is shit because guess what, good guys fucking win. Yes that includes all the anime you loved and gave good scores also. Stop watching anime since well the good guys are gonna win in the end. Hell stop watching movies too.

I never understood the rationale behind intentionally going into a thread just to talk about how much you disliked an episode, when everyone else sat in utter awe and wants to share in that experience.

Expressing disappointment in an episode of a property you genuinely like is one thing, but when watching it causes for consistent complaints, why bother with even staying with it? I don't mind when the complaints are funny and can wittily point out absurdities in certain setups or situations, but a person rarely recognizes when they think they are funny over the internet when in reality they are being perceived as only very mildly irritating.

Must be tied into that pseudo anonymity thing...

In other news, HOLY GOD did I love this episode! Armstrong kicked an amazing amount of ass! Having 91% 5/5s is indeed earned in this case.

If I remember right, she mentioned that she's gonna take care of him, that doesn't necessarily means she intended to kill him. And really, can you imagine Ed, handing Envy to Hawkeye, saying something like "Ok, Roy has mellowed out. You can kill him now!" if Envy would not kill himself? No, there were no intention from anyone, save Mustang, to kill Envy there.

No, I don't hate good guys winning. In fact, I think it makes no sense if the protagonists won't win in the end (wether they're the good or bad guys), unless there's a good storyline to justify that.

However, what annoys me in FMA, is that only good guys keep winning every fight there. Even though I don't remember well, it must have been ever since the death of Lust that the villains of the series lost their edge and kept getting done in and sucking it up. Maybe a couple exceptions here n' there but too few and far between to do any good.

But I guess, I'm asking too much when I was expecting to see a seinen out of a shounen anime. But it would not hurt to make it a little more harder for the good guys to win? There's no fun in beating up opponents who never seem to do anything right.
Signature? I ain't got no signature! I don't need no signature! I don't have to show you any stinkin' signature!

Dude, I just saw the scene in question again, and her exact words were "I won't let you kill Envy. But still, I don't plan on letting Envy live either. I'll take care of him."

WTF is wrong with the new OP; brings me down man. It's supposed to fire you up but this one is doing exactly the opposite. Although in itself, it's not a bad song, just not fit as the OP such an anime.

So you have something going on?! :P
Envy fell for that.

OMG! Envy was actually scared of Mustang there. Can't call him a scaredy cat. Mustang really was horrendous.

Heh! I was wondering where Cnaw's siggy was from. That was just some cold hearted. Brings new meaning to the term, burning with envy :D :D

Burn baby burn!

Hughes's scenes made my eyes a little wet. I didn't cry though. No really I didn't! <_<;

Man I thought for sure Mustang was gonna kiss Hawkeye. Damn it.

"This is the greatest chance for all of you. Come on, just do it!"
LMAO! Envy was so sute there :P

"shitty even by human standards" ROFLMAO! xDDDDDDDDD;
That was so fucking hilarious.

Wow! Envy's end was... weird... So epic? I dunno why that word comes to my mind. He was so sad. Envy taking out his own philosopher's stone. I already miss Envy.

lol Sloth forgot what he was supposed to do.

Holy fuck! Armstrong taking the heat from Sloth.
Aaaaaand the comeback! Wow! He's strong O_O; If that isn't a CMoA, then I dunno what is.

The housewife is back :D
Yay! I was wondering a few episodes ago where Izumi is...
What's W.C.? It was on her sandals...

The preview said, "Walk proudly with your head held high." Then they showed this:

I think that's a bit too much xDDD;

Yeah I have posted 1000 comments! (of course no one cares)

The scene near the grave must be anime original because I don't remember reading it.

See why playing with fire is dangerous Envy. I am surprised he lasted that long, I think it is because of all the philosopher stone he gathered earlier. Mustang is sure is scary, was Hughes' death that hard on him? I know that Hugues is uber-lovable (my favorite character who didn't last long in the series).

Anyway Envy I don't see what's so great about human to be envious about, human is the worse living creature on the planet, always boasting about how great we are, when we love to hate and destroy. It is true sometimes we are able to do good, but do not amount at nothing from all the evil we do. Yeah a lot to envy us.

Yeah muscles are awesome! This anime is pure win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay I'll admit I really don't get this episode. Are we actually supposed to pity Envy or something? He was one of the characters on this show with absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever. And what was wrong with letting Mustang kill him? Just because he was angry? So it's okay to kill monsters unless they murdered you're best friend in which case it's wrong? It's like they were trying play the usual "killing out of anger and vengeance is bad" card, but completely messed it up by choosing the worst possible characters to play it out. If anyone ever had a right, or possibly even a duty, to kill something it was probably Mustang killing Envy.

On the contrary, I think that these were the absolute RIGHT characters to play it out with. The point is, Roy mustn't give in to anger and vengeance regardless of how much of a total monster Envy is, or how on an emotional level Mustang may somehow feel justified. This way, the message is not tempered in any way by the relative morality of the hunter and "victim" in this case, and is more about the act itself and the emotions involved. NO ONE has the right to kill anyone out of vengeance, anger, and bloodlust, no matter how much they "wronged" you, or how much of a murderous asshole they are.

This scene is not about whether or not Envy deserved to die; the world and the heroes' goal is clearly better off without him, which is why Hawkeye offers to kill Envy herself. It's all about Mustang not going over the edge.

As far as Envy goes, I think there is an element of pity and understanding him and his actions, but pity and understanding are NOT the same thing condoning his actions, by any means.

So in that case why is okay for Hawkeye to kill Envy? Are you saying it's okay to kill someone as long as you don't have a reason? And what do you mean by Mustang "going over the edge?" It seems you are implying that Mustang's anger is wrong in some way. I agree killing a human under the same circumstances would definitely be wrong, but remember Envy is not human, he is a homunculus-- a monster. It has already been established that it is okay to kill these guys; I don't see how Mustang's emotional state has anything to do with it.

This episode was just awesome beyond words. Not sure what I can say since it was just... so seriously epic. Loved every minute.

I hated Envy so I'm glad he's gone, but yeah he was pretty pitiful... I'm kind of glad his envy/jealousy was deeper this time round than it was in the first FMA series. (Many things with deeper meanings in the manga that are shining through here, I'm guessing?)

Anyway yeah. So amazing. So enjoyable. Can't wait for the next one. :D

I loved how they used music in this episode. The first part where we see Riza and Mustang in Ishbal had really fitting background music and somehow the OP really seemed to match the feeling it was giving.

A really strong episode I think, with loads of Hawkeye and Armstrong siblings airtime and we also finally see Izumi joining the fray. I love how Hawkeye is hot no matter how she wears her hair. Short, tied up or loose, she always looks so good <3

I'm saying that it's NOT okay to kill out of anger. There's a reason why it's okay to kill someone out of self defense, or out of the defense of others, or because doing so would save lives. The morality of killing isn't one all or nothing thing; it depends the reasoning behind it. Riza planned on killing Envy because doing so would save lives, Roy wanted to kill Envy because he was pissed off.

Roy's emotional state has everything to do with it. It's the whole point of the entire fight. Roy killing Envy would just validate his emotions in his own mind and tell him it's okay to let his feelings for vengeance and his anger to overpower him. The point of that scene is to say that it's NEVER okay to give in to your anger like that, otherwise there's no difference between a human being and an animal. This is an -especially- important lesson for someone like Roy who wants to lead a nation. Would you rather want a leader who reacts to a difficult situation just by the whim of his feelings, or would you want a leader who deals with such situations with a cool and level head?

Roy's anger is certainly understandable, but is giving into it the right thing to do? What kind of world would there be if people were allowed to do whatever they want just because they were (justifiably) pissed off?

Again, I would agree with all of these arguments if they had chosen just about any character to play this out except for Envy. However Envy is a homunculus and not human. In fact, we have already seen a very similar scene play out back in episode 19 when Mustang killed Lust. As I recall, he was pretty angry at that time as well. In fact anger is very common emotion in the midst of battle, so by your argument, "it is NOT okay to kill out of anger," just about every death in this series would be completely unjustified. In both Lust's case and elsewhere absolutely no one suggested that these deaths were wrong. I stand by my statement that Envy deserved to die, and it made no difference who killed him.

"every death?" Like whom? Lust was killed basically because she was about to kill Hawkeye, Kimblee was killed to save Al, Gluttony was chopped up by Lanfan because
he was about to eat Ed and Ling...

Plus there is a marked difference in the way Mustang killed lust and the way he killed Envy- With Lust, it was relatively quick, boom boom boom. It was all about efficiency. He didn't kill her to feed his bloodlust there. With Envy, however, it was long, drawn out, and torturous. It was eminently clear that he went well over the line, and he was killing for no reason other than to indulge in his emotions.

Okay, I see your point there. Now that I think about it, I think the real problem I have with this scene is not the implication that Mustang is wrong for killing Envy. I agree now that he probably did drag it out a while longer than was necessary; it was the torture that was the problem, not the killing. However, I'm actually more turned off by the way we are apparently supposed to feel sorry for Envy. With a few minor changes this might have worked, for example if at any point prior to this Envy had shown any shadow of empathy. However at no point does any homunculus show the capacity for human decency, and this sudden "Envy was just jealous of humans" turn of events just rings hollow.

I appreciate the way this anime uses the "revenge is bad" message as one of the main themes and I think the same idea has been portrayed much better in other ways. Compare this scene, for example, to the one where Winry confronts Scar with a gun. In this case, Scar is somewhere in the midst of his redemption arc, and we get a great juxtaposition between Scar's realization that his own quest for vengeance is wrong as Winry realizes the same thing and shows him mercy.

Now look at Envy, who is literally encouraging Scar to start killing people with his last breath. Mustang probably did go a little overboard, but I don't think he would have been morally wrong to finish Envy right there, and it probably would have been a gray area at best. Plus, we also know that flaming a homunculus over and over until they collapse into a pile of ash is pretty much the only way of killing them, so I'm not sure Mustang really had much of a choice. If you look at Lust's death it looked pretty excruciating as well.

This has just been an outstanding run of episodes! To think, Envy of all things met such an end. He was so frightened of Mustang & crushed by Ed's words that he took his own life rather than be finished off. The argument over who should or should not kill him grated my nerves a bit, Envy's death was more than justified. That minor squable aside, I did understand a bit better when I saw Envy's pitiful attempts to fan the flames of hate. It came off as sad and extremely pitiful. Despite how horrible a being he was he still got a hell of a death scene.

If only they'd saved Envy, it would have been the perfect episode! :)

5/5.

WOW!!! I never seen Mustang this pissed before... well I did read the manga but never imagine it in anime!

Don't want to touch on Envy's death... afraid you guys will take it too personal... but I can only add to this...

That was the first and last time, I presume Envy called Ed by his name... instead of pip-squeak, pip squeak, o-chibi-san, o-chibi-san... at least for a change

EDIT: I gain information that Arakawa really crack her head just to think of Envy's death

Ah, they added the background info between Roy and Riza in a nice place. Watching this show and reading the manga sometimes throws me off because I can't remember what has and hasn't been shown sometimes, haha.

Envy came off as really pathetic during his final moments. It's sad that his most sympathetic moments were before his death however. I was never able to like his character before this (verses characters like Sloth and Pride that are on the same side as Envy but more likable either because they never really do anything evil or because they're very interesting characters).

Just noticed how similar the music from the suicide theme is to an Eureka 7 music... *searches OST* "1-15 To Make A Pathetic Decision" featured on ep 42. A most fitting tune.

Holy shit.....angry psycho Roy is majorly angry and psycho..I don't think he's ever been so pissed before. That was just...epic. He actually scared me <__< A lot..

I felt like crying when Roy stepped on Envy when he was a tadpole again. ;~; Oh god..I did NOT wanna see his brains be squished all over the place..Roy really went totally merciless on his ass.

Although I gotta admit..I REALLY didn't like how Envy tried shifting all the guilt trips on Scar one by one..that totally wasn't needed. Sort of a sad attempt..

And damn I wanted to cry again when he committed suicide..I knew it was coming from the manga but still x___x Ugh..it's the background music..is made it that much worse. I sort of wish Envy had been in his human like form when he died. Would have been cute to see Ed hug him or something.

Man..I can see it now..when this anime ends, it'll be ranked #1 like everything else :/

Excellent episode. I usually dislike seemingly forced and generic morality, but this was well done. Envy's rant really showed the futility of letting your feelings of hatred overshadow reasonable thinking and possible cooperation.

However at no point does any homunculus show the capacity for human decency, and this sudden "Envy was just jealous of humans" turn of events just rings hollow.

What about Greed? At least he's not siding with the Father character anymore. I think Arakawa tries to show us that the homunculus are, in some ways, brainwashed victims (except for the Father, apparently).

Greed does not show this capacity either. The first time he sides against Father it is simply because his own ambitions are too large to subjugate himself to anyone else, and currently he is only doing it because Ling is able to exert some control over him. Sure he occasionally claims to be working with the good guys, but I think he really just doesn't want to admit a mere human like Ling can possibly overpower him.

Holy Cow drinking piss from a golden toilet!

I would like to say this was my favorite episode untill now, but all of them have been so good... above awesome, simply mindblowing, the best sequence of episodes I've ever seen in anime, topping my previous one (the final episodes of Zeta Gundam).

This shit has been overdosing me with emotions and excitement, this is it, this series is going to be Tenned right now, there's no need to delay it until the end, this episode marks that upgrade.

Envy was such a great character, it's completely comprehensible the screentime he has been getting comparing him to the other Homunculus, and had what an ending... sad, depressing, deserving... Kinda sad to see such a great character go.

NOTE: I've been marathoning Brotherhood non-stop since episode 47, so this has been a thrilling ride... I'm glad I got sloppy and accumulated so many episodes, and there's more!

Envy's death was very well done. Wish he would have been able to do something to help the good guys in the end.

I was litterally yelling, "BURN THAT BASTARD TO A CRISP!!!!"

And then when Envy was little and was underneath Mustang's foot I was yelling, "SQUISH THAT LITTLE BASTARD LIKE THE COCKROACH HE IS!!!!"

Man, when I saw Envy dies, it remained me how Ulquiorra in Bleach died. I think that because they both, nearly their death were wondering about people lives (Envy, for a change, said what Roy and Scar done without to calculate what he himself done, and you know what...) and they both were jealous about that, but then, their death scenes were very sad...

By the way, I think the plot is going to get advanced in a very thrilling mode, I have to mark...

And that's it. Na-no-ne/De-aru/Relo XD

What an amazing episode this was. Great spot lights for Mjustang, Envy, Major Armstrong, and the passing house wife.

First of all I loved how Envy cried all of a sudden because Edward was the first one to understood him. Such a dramatic scene. Major on the other hand was smart since he used that blow from Sloth to fix the dislocated joint, lol.

Next episode would be awesome. Two Hohenheim will finally mett. I can't wait to see that.

FMA: B's deaths would be more powerful if they didn't all turn to powder after dying. After it turned to powder I was like meh. But yet another awesome episode as of episode 49.
