-I still have no idea why they chose THIS fire special effect. It looks so stupid.
-I find it weird that it took so long in the show for Charce to notice that Aries was a clone of Seira, given what he knew. If he was so fond of Seira, he must have had her face remembered distinctly. The eye color difference is something that he should have been searching for. Or it at least should have been easier to see for him. It should not have taken her pointing it out for him to notice.
-Kanata losing his arm was pretty messed up, but that was so stupid that he stuck his arm towards it like that.
-On the other hand, that shot of his arm floating around above a frozen Earth was pretty great.
-Kanata's "right-hand man" comment got a smile out of me, but I do find it stupid that the rest of the cast is not straight-up fuming mad at Charce. This "friendship overcomes all" crap might be the worst anime/manga trope.
-In the manga version (Chapters 43, 44, and 45 for this episode), there were 2 major differences that I noticed. One is that Charce is a bit more lively as a child. He breaks his arm trying to catch a Stag Beetle. So he's not just some obedient robot in his youth. Two is that in the manga version, when Charce is going on his rant about people fighting for what they believe in, it straight up shows the old World Trade Center getting attacked by the planes. This is especially funny (like coincident funny, not haha funny) because this episode aired on 9/11/2019. What's even MORE funny is that this episode aired at 21:00 in Japan. In New York City, this would have been 8:00. The 9/11 timeline starts at 7:59 when American Airlines Flight 11 takes off. So pretty much exactly 18 years ago, 9/11 was starting to unfold and 9/11 is used as a plotpoint in this story. Pretty weird!
Alright, here's the thing. I don't think these twists are as clever as a lot of people may make them out to be. Some of the stuff was almost comical, like Seira conveniently flipping her handkerchief to find the name Aeris or Kanata sticking his arm out at the wormhole. But the biggest problem to me is that Charce, as a character, doesn't make any sense.
Remember, a convoluted and packed plot does not equal a good plot. Just keep that in mind.
I may end up giving this a 4, 5, or 6. It's definitely the most disappointing anime of the season, that's for sure.
Let's see how they wrap it all up!

I'm only a little concerned as to what the last episode of the series is going to entail since I want to see a satisfying ending and I don't know if that can be delivered in just one episode. Who knows, a possible second season could be announced or we'll just have to start reading the manga.
A lot of people are confused as to why Kanata reached his arm out, or altogether why he recklessly charged towards Charce with pretty much no plan. I think this is where Aries' dialogue about the way Kanata is always running can explain this fairly enough.
Kanata is always running towards something, and it's usually to help someone else. His plan was illogical, but Kanata in the vey beginning of this series made it clear that even if he were stuck in outer space as the result of trying to help someone else, he would be glad so long as the other person doesn't have to die alone. I think he believed that if he and Charce got sucked up, even if they died, they'd just die together and at least Charce wouldn't have to be alone.
So yeah, Kanata's plan was quite stupid in terms of the bigger picture, but ultimately it was just Kanata's pure-heartedness that made him stupid. The lost arm also adds depth and emotion to the fact that he considers Charce his right-hand man. That being said, I really enjoy how much these kids love each other and have created such a bond. Clones and all, they all acknowledge each other as inidivdual PEOPLE, and I just love that. Hate to see this series end!

The anime only has 4 more chapters to adapt. There's no way we would get a 2nd season.

Again, everything concerning the plot was so naive and I find it really hard to believe they would actually want to kill their clones instead of using them secretely in spite of the law. If not for the end where Kanata lost his hand (due to his zealous stupidity) this episode would be very weak.
For a sec I thought Aries actually takes after Kanata's leading example, now that would be actually some developement as Charce would need to turn that thing off instantly to not harm her. But no, guess I expected too much. Also, in the first episode they instantly put their helmets on, now in the face of the well-know danger they actually forget about it? *sigh*
Also, if Aries was an infant back then, that would make Charce like ten or so years older then them which would made his cover as high-school student way too unreliable (I mean, anime characters don't shave or anything but even if he had younger look they would be able to tell he is lot older then them).

Yeah, it really was hard to watch. Kanata is so stereotypical, and in all the wrong ways.

That is a very good point. A lot of things about this timeline aren't making any sense. But he could just be a babyface. It's not entirely unbelievable.

Overall though it was a great episode. I still don't like the message they are trying to portray that fighting and possibly dying for what you believe in is a bad thing. The author of this story really has an unrealistic ideal of what a perfect society would be like.

That did feel a bit preachy, haha. You can't overcome everyone with love and friendship.
SheevPalpatine said:Easily the WORST episode of the entire anime. I felt that they will go with the overused cliché: you wanted to kill us all, but we love you, you love us, the power of love can overcome everything. You will be my right hand because I was so dumb to sacrifice my own right hand to save you shitty life... Come on...
1/5
Pretty nice sum-up of some of my thoughts. Like I said, you can't overcome everything with love and friendship. I have no idea why some people are describing this episode or show as "phenomenal".
