Damn, too bad about the soccer game. Oh well at least Ryouta tried right?

I suppose the emotional build up for Kousei is still there if relating to his past especially with his mother. Sigh. Oh well, we also get some relationship building between Kaori and Kousei. Cute. Still, I hope Kousei can get over his fear soon...

I am very happy to see Emi this episode including a bit of her past. Can't wait for her performance!

Friend entrusting being star to the main guy. The black cat trauma and seeing it as another himself? Meeting his rivals.

Showing a bit of rivals' personalities and their minds. KajiKaji's character is more straight about his feelings toward the main guy and only wants to compete against the main guy to the extend that that even when he won the recital last time, he still wants to compete. Hayami-san's character is cold, but is actually the one to hide her feelings.

25:29 next week.

Nice episode once again. Kousei is battling his inner demon. Kaori speech to Kousei was very nice. Next week episode should be very interesting on how Kousei can compete with his rival.

Good episode. Did a pretty good job exploring Kosei's doubts and fear of failure. It is interesting to see how some other musicians look at him: cold and distant, and aloof because of his talent. While it certainly isn't true, their perception of him helps make the fact that they are so hung on beating him more understandable.

They're finally starting to get into it with the rivals. It was a nice introduction for this week before the musical storm that is going to start hitting us next week (with a rando soccer disappointment thrown in for good measure). So far so good.

Nice build-up episode. I really wanted to listen to some musical scores, played by Aiza, Igawa and of course Kousei. Too bad that will have to wait until next week. Things were just starting to heat up.

I'm curious about the reactions of both the audience, and especially the judges when Kousei's turn comes around. I expect a jarring performance from him, with all the support he received from Kaori, as of lately.

Watari's reaction to his loss reminded me of Kasamatsu's in Kuroko no Basuke.

That cat...
and Kousei's story about his cat.

Aiza and Igawa encountering Kousei. Haha, their rage on Kousei as well.
We get a little more scenes from the past.

Everyone sure is nervous.

Aiza not taking the opportunity to go to Germany; but instead going for the same competition he won last year.
Just when he's about to play, of course we have to wait for next week ;_;

Even a show like this can have cliffhangers XD Well Damn <_<

Good ep. Build up and lots of tension. Loved Kosei's monologue and conversations with the cat or more like his fears incarnate ^^

Loved the piano piece at the end when Takeshi was going on stage.

I like Takeshi already, he seems to be an interesting character. That new girl is fine.

Build-up episode and it did its job very well. Next episode will be amazing.

Kousei and Kaori touching hands, ooohhh that made my heart beat, great scene.

Well that's interesting, Takeshi's design suggested to me that he was going to be a cocky badass lol, nice to see there's more to his character. Last competitions winner, yet still extremely nervous. Not sure if that's the pre-competition jitters doing that or Kousei's presence in it.

The cat stuff was weird D:

Very slowed paced episode but I enjoyed it more. I bad for Watari in the beginning since he didnt make the game winning goal he was very sad about it. And also liking

Takeshi he is a rival but I like how they portrayed him in this episode has a person who has struggles like Arima despite being the champion.

The competition starting, I am actually enjoying the pace as it slowly builds up each of their performance!

Kousei's inner self being a cat, why is it always a cat though.

Takeshi and Emi being in the tournament. Looking forward to the favourite to play.

The tension and everybody being scared. Takeshi gaining the composure, he looked really cool as Kousei looked up to him.

Good episode. Poor Watari, it seems both he and Tsubaki failed at their sports, so.. that leaves Arima.

I like how the Emi and Takashi are so mad that Arima kept owning them as kids, didn't even bother to learn who they are, lol. Honestly, i hope the same happens now as well.

That being said, the episode was really slow, but still not bad at all.

Another great episode with good music. This anime does not disappoint. I liked the new characters. I can't wait to learn more about them. It looks like so many people in the piano world envy Kousei. I hope he brings his A game next episode.

I can't wait for next episode. It ended when it was getting really good. It is funny how Shigatsu has me (someone who doesn't care about pianos) so hyped for piano performances.

Its only normal as children to have those grudges. To keep that growing even now is the natural anime logic. But you see, the girl did understood that Arima is like that because he didn't care about anything but his mom.

Sweet Jesus! The scenes of those kids freaking out backstage brought back some memories.
Used to play piano myself when I was a kid and I can vouch for that "all of us are scared" line. I quit playing when I was 13 because music was taking too much of my time, the competitions are too stressful, and the future of a musician is too uncertain.

Nice episode, I really enjoyed it.
I loved each scene, and I didn't felt the episode was so "slow-paced". Or I'm just the kind of person who like slow-paced episode when it's well done, idk.

I already love the contribution of Aiza and Igawa to the cast, I guess I'm never bored by this kind of trope (long-time rival with some cool backstory).

Damn, dat tension, it give me the chill.
Reminds me the tension before each music exam. It's REALLY hard to deal with it.
The funny thing is although stress is contagious, it's because everyone is afraid that we're eventually find the strength to get over it. It's always reassuring to see that we're not alone.
Kousei just noticed it.

Takeshi Aiza was badass at the end. He's afraid but he walks with his head held high.
He knows that the most inspired and complex performances are in fact the result of a clear mind.

By the way, this episode reminds me a quote from Chopin :

I'm looking forward to the next episode, this show becomes more and more exciting.

This episode was really nice. The soccer part did remind me about some parts from Haikyuu or Kuroko no Basket. Too bad~

It was nice to see some Kaori x Kousei :)

Kaori is so wonderful, full of life and color. Amazing <3

Man competition finally started can't wait to see whats going to happen between Kousei and the competitors that are willing to give up overseas Germany chance just to be believe that Kousei will re-enter the competition and compete with him. That is crazy.

But I can't wait to see what Aiza will bring to the stage next week. Arghhh the cliff hangers! This series is just so golden I can't wait!

5/5 for this episode. Love it all.

Yohohoho~ It's a build up episode.... Not bad, not bad at all...

The pacing of the story is slow in this eps, but almost every moments are gently flowing and brimming like sakura petals in the spring wind... Well, "Almost", because like usual the comedies don't fit the mood. Oh well, enjoyable nonetheless.

Kousei's development seems to be slower, so I'm expecting his "I-can't-hear-the-note" drama will come again when he performs.

4.3/5. next week, things are gonna get real, right?
HOW TO SAVE ANIME IN THREE SIMPLE STEPS

  1. To have Mars of Destruction, Skelter Heaven, and Pupa properly adapted in TV series form by Madhouse
  2. To have Inferno Cop properly adapted in TV series form by Bones, director: Urobuchi Gen
  3. An anime crossover of Mushishi x ARIA x Haibane Renmei.

Should even one of the above conditions cannot be done, anime is still at risk.

skimming through this episode I realized just how much Natsuki Hanae's delivery contributes so negatively to this show. I just can't stand this guys inflection where he seems like he's brutally overplaying the whole part, though that probably has a lot to do with him just being not at all what I envisioned for the role so much as A-1 forcing him onto the project cause they have a raging hard on for trying to promote him in their shows. I think I found yet another thing to avoid when it comes to anime in any case. Note to self, avoid shows with Natsuki Hanae in it from here on out cause he sucks and brings like no personality or distinct quality to any of his roles in anything I've heard. Yuki Kaji is in this now too and I feel bad for calling Hanae the next Yuki Kaji cause listening to the two in the same show I feel that's an insult to Kaji who is definitely leagues better.

At least Saori Hayami kind of made up for it though she could probably act circles around anyone in this show at the best of times. That said a lot of the scenes in this show are still just way too overwrought compared to how they come across in the manga as just kind of more natural. A-1 is really trying so desperately to play this one up as a prestige project yet every single time the awkwardly placed slapstick comedy brings it crashing back down to Earth. Oh well what else is new.
