Glad they're taking action against someone corrupt as Kiyotada. Someone like him always seems bad for the community.

I love how Tokiyuki stood his ground and put up his confidence to what's in front of him. Despite the tense episode, it's funny how they still threw in some humor into the episode. The eycatchy reactions came back too. Amusing.

Yeah, of course the one with the nicest looking face is the most messed up of the lot lmao. Meanwhile, the actual villains of this show stay having some of the most... interesting character designs.

Btw, I can't be the only person who's seeing how Tokiyuki's defeating his enemies now is just getting more and more... extravagant. Dude really twerked on the dude because he was butthurt over them wanting to die.... nice.

Hope the staff could, at the bare minimum, put some effort into the finale episode.

Only one more episode of my twink bf tokiyuki 😢

I still burst out laughing when I see the ridiculous faces in this show man. I didn’t watch Assclass so I wasn’t familiar with the mangaka game at all. Despite being such a serious mission this was a pretty chill episode. Tokiyuki got his toughest mission thus far in convincing Hoshina to retreat and stop the rebellion. Dying for a noble cause is good and all, but there’s no point just throwing away lives for nothing. The Suwa are going to need all the help they can get.

Also a great chance for Tokiyuki to show his skills as a general and that he can get even experienced vets like Hoshina to follow em.

Some really cute Kojiro and Tokiyuki moments this week, love them both sm!

I too do not need a meal after my battles as received lots of raw meat during.

I really like the historical connections <3

In general, the mentality of "dying gracefully" or whatever only has two genuine values/purposes:
1. amp up your forces to fight without fear of death with delusions of post-death grandeur
2. keep mentality on dying, rather than switching sides (example, scared of death so work for enemy in order to prevent death)

Obviously the samurai here are flawed because this is not the end of their battle/war. They are not going to the enemy side nor letting them win. It's a tactical retreat/retrograde with long-term goal to actually win and not just die because of delusion.

The leader recognized the coward speaking as if experienced great carnage (he has) and takes his words seriously as dodges blow. Luckily got drunk after was convincing as we don't know how elusive the coward is while drunk, though we do know he has ability #buttstrike (I don't say coward because he's a coward, I say because it's fun to call if that just like his friends/retainers do)
5/5, I'm expecting a new season and this eventually ending with Hōjō downfall, but we'll see.

Agreed, but that's only part of the mission. The main mission is to use his Elusive skills en masse as a general to those under him, not just his own person, to minimize loss. I expect next episode to be the true test if he can actually lead as opposed to be an individual of talent and/or words.

Tokiyuki sent on a more diplomatic mission this time. Previously he's been sent on scouting missions, sabotage missions and pure fighting missions. This time he is sent to see just how good those elusive skills are not just for himself but a whole army. A sect of the Suwa forces are outside their territory where Yorishige rules and are trying to fight the enemy. The provisional official is getting greedy and arrogant trying to have absolute victory killing everyone not just running them out. That parked with the Suwa forces refusing to leave will cause needless bloodshed. Especially for the already smaller Suwa forces to lose more valuable men would be very bad. Tokiyuki may speak well but these more experienced soldiers don't respect his words of retreat. They're all locked into the classic samurai mindset of dying with honor is better than running to fight another day. They do face the provisional officials forces across the river to moderate success. Using the elusive warriors help with the fire and opening the river they're able to at least get a stalemate. Tokiyuki and Kojirou know this isn't going to happen twice, they'll be killed the next day. I loved the focus on Kojirou as Tokiyuki right hand man this episode. He will be the Lord's number one general one day, Kojirou did a great job fighting and leading the troops this episode. Tokiyuki not backing from from Hoshina even as he got drunk from the splashed alcohol. Using his butt to beat Hoshina into submission of withdrawal. Cant be that easy though as the enemy forces chase after them.

Tokiyuki's drunken new technique was funny but effective in the end. It did stop the fight and for now, we're going to retreat and plan this through but it might not be so easy to escape this place. But, running is one of the best thing in such a scenario.

Ah yes. Overly feminine male villains trend continues with this show. Great episode, comic relief was great and the strategy to hold the army off worked almost flawlessly. Looking forward to a good finale. For now, this is my favorite of the season.

You need be special a-hole to make Sadamune more sensible and less weird. Now surprise Hoshina and gang rose up after such oppression.
Sadamune & Takauji are great antagonist this guy has only been a clown so far as his makeup.

But thanks for Tokiyuki to butt in and save their lives. This boy has seen true horror of "dying for honour" he knows it's not worth it. I don't think Hojo clan has the option to ran away and did the right thing but this guys do so glad they gave up on the idea.
Some focus on Kojiro too nice. It should be a good finale.

Wow, those Hoshina samurai are basically like a suicide cult. I get that they'll probably die in battle, but still... it's sad how they've got no sense of self-preservation.

And that butt attack from Tokiyuki after getting drunk was hilarious, it seems like our young Lord invented twerking back in the 14th century. I bet he'd easily solo Keijo with such a prodigious posterior.

Anyway, I've thoroughly enjoyed this anime. I'm sad we've already reached the finale next week, so hopefully S2 will arrive before too long.

Really like how Tokiyuki actually brought up sharing the strengths of his teammates to each other to create better plans. I feel like anime should do this more often.

I understand why they left Shizuku out of the fight, but why'd they leave Ayako who is essentially Kojiro's partner?

not bad, it was nice seeing kojiro get some time in the spotlight. i felt like he was being overshadowed by fubuki since they're both swordsmen and he was just a lot better than him in skill. also i like sadamune a lot more i wasn't expecting him to be given unc status

You know that the new antagonist is pretty bad when it makes the old antagonist seem not so bad in comparison as shown in this episode with Kiyohara and Sadamune. I disliked Kiyohara right from the beginning and it seems like his men don't like him much either.

Anyway, I hope that Tokiyuki and his group are successful in escorting Hoshina and his group to safety in the finale.

Shinano experiencing a barley resurgence that has to be taxed by the provincial official Kiyohara, Sadamune...sure got the short end of the stick trying to suck up to his insane beauty. And in the lead of the rebellion is Yasaburo Hoshina, which Yorishige requests Tokiyuki and the others to stop the rebellion in Kawakana-jima. At first, things are looking good, but being from the Suwa Grand Shrine, they were expecting reinforcements, not kids telling them to stop the fight. And everyone...will fight to the death being samurai.

Hoshina's army willing to die from being humiliated, but as much as his assistant Saemontaro Shinomiya is powerless to stop him, with their small army of 159 against Kiyohara's 580-strong army, it doesn't look like the small army's going to win. Adding the fact of Tokiyuki and the others having no choice but to assist Hoshina's army, their tactics may be many, but numbers and ego make the difference, and what Hoshina is doing is exactly the past of how Tokiyuki saw his entire Hojo Sect be decimated in Ashikaga's hands, enough to teach him a lesson..whilst being drunk? At the very least, the message worked this time, and Hoshina reconsidered his ways to retreat, while Kiyohara is just frustrated that his plan didn't come to fruition.

Of course, Kiyohara would not let them lightly, and the escape plan has to work perfect this time.

To think that someone like Sadamune actually has a heart and didn't want Kiyotda to take double tax.
Fubuki came up with a good strategy for that battle.
Good to see Tokiyuki was able to get Kashima to stop fighting.

I have ADD, ADHD & AUTISM, but this won't stop me. Let's keep having fun together.

I have never seen someone fighting with his butt like Tokiyuki did. He is truly unique😂

Suwa Grand Shrine party must come out with a plan to defeat Yasaburo’s people quick. That provincial official is so annoying and the poor workers are disrespected.

Fubuki, Ayako and Kojiro would do anything to protect the next succesor of Kamakura shogunate and I hope it will be restored as soon as possible.

I am sad that there is only one episode left of this masterpiece, this shoujo anime is amazing!

I liked how this episode mocked avoidable yet "glorious death" that was norm even up to the end of WW2.

I'm surprised MC didn't straight up say "instead of dying here gloriously, follow me and WIN gloriously." Or something like that. Why die and lose when you can use your F-ing brain, live and win.

Strange enough, white face powder, drawn eyebrows, and red lip color were formal attire for aristocrats male and female until the end of the 19th century (Horrifyingly, they dyed their teeth jet black as well). Prince Moriyoshi, who appeared in the latter half of ep. 6, may have worn such makeup (though it would have been bare-minimal since he was a leader of men-at-arms). That is, Kiyohara is a screwed-up tyrant, but his makeup has nothing to do with it, and regardless of his makeup, Kiyohara is a deviant personality.

Kiyohara has four of his men carry a vehicle. It's called a "輿: koshi" (a palanquin). This is an caricatured lore that the nobility did not walk on the ground by their feet. As a ball-kicking sport "蹴鞠: kemari" was one of the nobility's accomplishments, in fact, they had their outdoor shoes. However, they might not have put their feet down in a dirty wheat field or on a river bank.
Even the emperor who attends a traditional ceremony does not use a koshi today. But during many local festivals, there are events in which people carry "omikoshi," a portable shrine, in parades. Those shrines are the remains of symbolic palanquins for the deities.

The riverbank where the two armies engaged in battle is "川中島: Kawanaka-jima" (although it was not called by that name in Tokiyuki's time). It has been the site of many battles besides this.
If you have some interests in the Sengoku period, you may be familiar with the names of 武田信玄 (Takeda Shingen) and 上杉謙信 (Uesugi Kenshin), two powerful feudal lords. This is the same, notable battlefield where they clashed a total of five times. It was 460 years ago, 230 years after the time of episode #11.

"国司: kokushi", a provincial governor, is a civil officer appointed by the emperor to rule over a province. Their duties are to manage the manors and state-owned lands in the area and to collect taxes for the Court [the central government] where they are dispatched from (It's not about big provinces like Shinano, station areas of petit importance or far from the Court are sometimes chosen to be a place to conclude personnel affairs. In other words, a land of exile).

Sadamune's duty is to defend the Shinano province with military force. "守護: Shugo", a guardian, does not have the authority to govern the territory. In most cases, they were chosen from the local leading samurai clans.
Who had the authority to appoint a Shugo? That office was the destroyed Kamakura shogunate. Sadamune was also appointed by Emperor Godaigo, presumably on the recommendation of Ashikaga Takauji, but the rank of Kokushi is much higher than that of a Shugo (even if they were of the same rank, the civilian officials are superior to the military). It is quite possible that if Kiyohara reports to the Emperor, he could get Sadamune himself to retire from his duty of Shugo.
