Trying to catch up with anime:
1. currently airing seasonals
2. modern classics (2000s onwards)
3. rewatching anime I watched in childhood as well as those anime that was shown on local TV but either I wasn't interested to watch back then or failed to watch
4. golden age (70s to 90s) anime that were not broadcast on local tv.

hi! I cannot comment back because we're not friends and I can't add you, nor can I send this message.
Anyway, K-On! popularised the CGDCT genre. I didn't exactly enjoy it, but I suppose it's an important anime because other people I know rave about it more than a decade after it aired.
For better or worse, some people refer to it as a foundational moe anime: https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/fpfewy/unoriginal_opinion_kon_is_the_foundational_moe/
It is mostly of historical interest. I enjoyed more Girls und Panzer, which is CGDCT with tanks with the similar moe designs.
K-on can be mindless fun. It's is mostly plotless. I understand that it's all about their relationships.
But if you're pressed for time, it might feel like a waste of time.
No worries man, always happy to accept any requests and wishing you a very Happy New Year. You can hit me up anytime if you want to discuss anything related to anime.
May God Bless You ..😊😊
However, there is one point I must STRONGLY disagree with, and that is the point that there's not much for Rin to see in Eiji. I think she has ever reason to have an instant crush on him.
Eiji's first interaction with Rin was to prank her with pretending to be the only member of the drama club, like in The Beginning of a Story, which is, I presume, a fictional piece from this universe. (Also the title of the first episode.) He later states this was his exact intent. It's obvious they are on the same wavelength when it comes to entertainment. Let's say it's from her favorite movie. The fact he's referencing it is a big plus. Getting the better of someone with a playful prank is also a way to break the ice and show someone you're fun to be around. So now she's thinking he's a clever and fun senpai. Add to this her own lackluster grades, and she's probably thinking he's right inside her league. From there, it doesn't really matter if he proves to be a slight disappointment, she already has a justified crush on him.
Then there's the fact he likes her harem game, which she seems convinced others would find silly. It is a very odd thing she does, and she obviously enjoys doing it. It's a part of her personality to play such games, and he just so happens to like them. Most guys probably WOULD find it weird, even in the drama club.
And finally, with how much women complain about men in general, a clever guy that is nice is already in the top half of all men. Not that she's old enough to know that, but I'd argue he's not so low-tier at all. I think average nice guy qualifies as top half.
Anyway, thanks for the review! I'll probably suffer through a few more episodes till the story gets more coherent, as I'm enjoying it overall aside from the weird format you mentioned.
My main issue is the main character hasn't really taken any of the romance seriously, but does a fairly slow 180. Also the execution was botched. Either way I don't see the show concluding with anyone else being chosen. I might like Yotsuba the most largely due to the 2 episode special and how well-done it was. All we really needed was a bit more scenes with Yotsuba, literally even the montage showcasing all the scenes she was "in love" with him in the past were very limited, yet it's still powerful.
Anyways, those are my thoughts. I wouldn't dismiss her as being faked as emotionally complex. It's just she had no spotlight up until the end. Also I really can't believe they put out this movie how it was before they released the 2 episode special. I can see why people would hate it off that alone.
