So that concludes sword maiden's arc. Plagued by a terrible past that gave her a great phobia that no one else can understand. Yet even her attempts at getting others to finally understand how terrible goblins are have failed. In the end only able to get 1 person she can emotionally rely on, someone who knows how terrifying goblins can be.

I'm not a lolicon, you're just projecting your tendency to lewd 2D characters.

Man, it feels so satisfying when they finally finish a hard job and with casualties, big relief. I can't wait to see what's nest, is it it for their alliance? Would there be more joined missions to come? I sure hope so, they do make for an amazing team. I'm calling the elve and the Goblin Slayer as a pair in a long time, but I can't help but consider the priestess and the rancher keeper girl, the decision of who to pick really is hard on this one.

@papsoshea I would the source material is pretty decent. While the LN has its flaws (though not sure how much of that comes from original and how much from the translation) it's good compared to your average LN and very good compared to most LN that get adapted. Most importantly it's different (e. g. atmosphere, pace, MC, worldbuilding) and could be a foundation for a good anime, that somehow stands out among bland and childish garbage that every season is full of, but instead got butchered by poor production values and terrible writing. And manga is just good overall.

Then GS and P go out to this sewer, get swamped. P get's raped and traumatized. GS is forced to watch berserk style. He manages to free himself, and runs to P, but she is already dead. He escapes the sewer, drowns his sorrows at a tavern, then hangs himself.

Would be so much better. So much darker.

Lol, well, the writing is a lot more entertaining than what we get served in this show.

Not much to say about this episode since it was more or less, like the previous (it was shit!) lol it was just rearranged differently - Part A being the action and Part B being more chit and chatter. I think everyone can agree that the Sword Maiden's scene with GS was either worded wrong or the subs were trash because anime-only watchers would be confused af from the exchanges between the two, especially the part about her "plan" which in my opinion makes her the most horrible character shown since Elf and deserves no empathy. All this episode accomplished was raising more questions with certain inworld facts and worldbuilding themes. Extra brownie points for the LotR references (I am from middle earth, big LotR fan) and not going for fanservice a 3rd time around when delving into the Sword Maiden's psychological trauma and PTSD (even though any serious moments from her cam barely be taken seriously after episode 7 and 8). Some other things here and there that I could go on about, but I already did that on my page. I mean it's proven now, and I have said it for weeks now, this is just a really piss-poor adaptation of a poorly written story. If you like the show, the manga/LN would prove to be more enjoyable for you.

Interesting revelation at the end, correct me if I'm wrong since either the subtitles or the dialogue felt a little vague to me. The Sword Maiden basically orchestrated this entire event of bringing Goblins into the town just so she could show people how terrifying they actually are because of her own traumatic past with them? The huge monster and the evil eye thing were both her familiars, the former guarding the situation so it doesn't get too out of hand and the latter protecting the mirror so the goblins could move to and fro the sewers and their actually hideout effectively.
I feel bad for her and her past but I think what she did was wrong, I can understand her need of wanting to spread awareness about how dangerous these things actually are but her method of doing was rather extreme and could have lead to something real dangerous.

GS being the cool guy at the end saying he'd slay goblins for her any day. Them pickup lines. XD

Elf blushing at the end was so cute. <3

I think sword maiden also feels embarrased because most people think that goblins are just weak monsters compared to what could be real problems, and she has a trauma with them, so that's another reason she could use to try to show how dangerous they are. The same here with subs, in my case I watch it sub-spanish and that conversation was hard to get.

After defeating the eye demon, they realized that the mirror behind the monster is a portal that let goblins enter to the ruins. But after making a such loud noise with the last explosion they do not have too much time. Lizardman is going to get rid of the mirror while the elf, GS and the dwarf defat goblins. Another ogre appears, but GS has a strategy with the dwarf, using his spells, they destroyed the ceiling, making the hole room (and building) to collapse over the ogre and the other goblins. GS met the sword maiden at her palace, and through their conversation, she explained how scared she’s of goblins due to her tragic past and that somehow, she is the responsible of letting the goblins enter to the city, she wanted to show how scaring they are (what I understood hahaha). They go back to the town.

The action was good, GS is such an intelligent warrior, he always uses what is at his disposal, this time, finishing with the goblins and also sending some debris to the other side of the portal. I don’t know if is the script, but in sub-spanish, the conversation between GS and sword maiden was confusing, kind of incoherent. Then as we knew, sword maiden has a trauma with the goblins, but she got too far trying to make people understand her fear by bringing goblins to the town, a little excessive. For the comments that I read, sword maiden is gonna have a more importance in the future, so if this is not the end of the character, he must wait in order to watch how she is developed, because here, they spent 3 episodes fixing something that she caused.

I feel like it was far more epic-looking in the manga. And that mirror a different shape too. Lizardman was far less jacked up in the anime...he was clothes-ripping/white-eyes showing/veins-popping/DBZ-level of jacked up in the manga, which I'm rather disappointed now that they didn't do that.

Guess they tried to go for a more realistic or grounded look.

Although I think the kick down the hill looked more funnier in the anime.

My initial understanding from watching the anime alone without reading that far into the manga: (Putting it in spoiler tag because of wall of text)

- The evil mastermind set up the whole sewer goblins/gate mirror/giant eye monster thing for "something" nefarious, but is already killed by the hero at the start of this arc in ep 6.
- The white alligator was her familiar, and the extent of trying to get rid of the goblins but can't do much more because of her PTSD.
- Goblins don't leave behind mutilated corpses of women; they take them back to their lair, and nobody would've known. So Sword maiden most likely pinned the random murder on the goblins (who she already knew was underground), to show the threat looming underground.
-Still not telling anyone what she fully knows about the underground (because either nobody would believe her, or her reputation as the Sword Maiden preventing her from doing so) she hired a first group of adventurers to their doom after people finally realize the victims are being killed by goblins.
- More victims pile up, including the first group of adventurers, and now sword maiden has a bigger excuse to hire more skilled adventurers like silver-ranked Goblin Slayer on false pretenses.
- There are no detailed maps, no giant rat extermination quests, and no adventurers patrolling, all because the white alligator is there as a guardian of the sewers.
- Goblin slayer baited Sword Maiden into revealing her manipulations behind the scenes and/or not telling the whole truth about who really killed the acolyte girl (or leading that first group of adventurers to their deaths by withholding info)...But he chooses to let her go because he has nothing against her personally...although this might be a different story had she herself been the mastermind bringing the Goblins into the city.

-Sword Maiden's goals:
> to get rid of the goblins, but couldn't do it herself so she had to orchestrate a roundabout way of hiring Goblin Slayer,
> show how evil the goblins are, but had to forge some evidence, as goblins would've taken their victims back to their lair.
> ask Goblin Slayer, someone who she thought would understand her, to "save her" which I interpreted as emotional support (maybe even physically too).
> Goblin slayer can sympathize with her, but due to inherent differences in experiences, he cannot emphasize with her plight, so he turns her down.

Edit: Finally got around to reading the manga chapter which corresponds to this episode. And after reading the manga chapter 29, it explained this episode a whole lot more easier to understand, and cleared up any and all questions I may have had...on top of it being portrayed far better by leaps and bounds storyboard-art-wise, which I think they should have used for reference more, rather than the more bland storyboarding they used in the anime. The only other thing I liked better in the anime was the shape of the canary cage, being changed to a round one instead of a square cage in the manga, and overall in this anime--the fact that he takes his chin piece off his helmet to eat/drink.

Things that were cleared up for me: (Putting it in spoiler tag because of wall of text)

- The mirror on the other side supposedly connects to a goblin village, so no harm in giant rocks hurled their way during the climax.
-The "Jack the ripper"-style murder of the acolyte girl that set this whole arc into motion, was done by demon king loyalists as ritual sacrifices throughout the city.
- The demon king loyalists snuck in to the city underground, using it as their base, and used the cursed (round) mirror to manipulate goblins to kidnap girls as sacrifices for them. They placed the eyeball monster there to guard said gate.
intending to use the mirror and giant eyeball demon monster for some nefarious reason that ultimately never came to fruition as their boss and organization was destroyed by the hero at the start of this arc.
-Subsequent murders of young maidens and children on a nightly basis were because of the goblins, but some may have also been the demon king loyalists too.
- The nefarious reasons assumed to be revenge against Sword Maiden, being their enemy and all.
- White alligator was indeed Sword Maiden's familiar, of which she shares it's senses from the goblin's weapons attacking it's scales and flesh with rusty swords. Since she's mostly blind, I imagine her sense of touch is more stronger/sensitive than normal people, amplifying the connection with the familiar.
-Since her alligator patrols the sewers, she knew full well everything going on down there, but couldn't do anything herself due to her past trauma caused by goblins.
-The city won't send stronger adventurers down there, so the best she could do was hire a group of newbies first, which all died down there...something she probably feels guilty about, which is why she asked what Goblin Slayer was going to do to her...and for withholding vital information overall; one or the other.
- Her reasoning for withholding information was to try and make the problem apparent and make people realize the scope of the danger they pose with their guard down.
- Her nightmares haunt her, and sought to have Goblin Slayer "save her"...whatever that may entail.
- Finally, they reveal of the demon lord loyalists at the end of the arc, rather than the start. And pretty much explains all their plans, nicely typing up any loose ends. They changed the anime version of this scene to be far more dramatic, I assume to save on budget, or to dumb it down for the audience. I don't know why they didn't just use the manga as a storyboard guide, as it would have been more linear, easier to understand, while being more nuanced as well. The anime version just made it seem all over the place, overly dramatic like a shounen battle anime with the cliche damsel-in-distress setup in ep 6, and completely forgettable moment that could have just been passed off as an unimportant small talk in the guild that Goblin Slayer didn't care to hear more about. For that reason, I'm lowering my score for this series....because there was just far too many unnecessary changes, not just cut content and cut out dialogue (which was the reason that led to so much confusion this episode not just in myself).

Off topic: Did anyone else notice how much the Hero looks like Suzumiya Haruhi? Their yellow headband/ribbons are identical.

The final part in which there is the dialogue between the protagonist and the Sword Maiden, I have not grasped certain concepts, but I do not think it was my fault to what I read around. The narrative could be a little more engaging, but overall the whole episode was not bad.

I feel so bad for the Sword Maiden... It's like people expect her to be some brave and strong hero when she's basically still the little girl who went through something horrible all those years ago. I love that scene between her and Goblin Slayer. I don't agree with what she did...but I do understand her reasoning behind it.

Also...Goblin Slayer has definitely changed. Am I the only one who heard an attempt at dry humor? (Not that he intended for it to be like that due to his personality but still...)

holy hype desu, I am consistently surprised by how immersed I get into this. I dig Goblin Slayer's use of strategy; there are real thoughts behind his gambits and it never feels like an asspull.

There was a lot of "reading between the lines" necessary to digest GS's conversation with the Swordmaiden, but that was some powerful shit too. Demented, but powerful. I appreciate that Swordmaiden was painted as a sort of sympathetic villain in this scenario, yet GS gives no fucks. His singular focus on goblins, ironically, adds a layer of depth to this.

I see all these remarks about this adaptation butchering the source... I don't know the source, but I certainly don't understand the criticisms.

Another creative plan by Goblin Slayer! Taking down the whole structure and using the portal as a shield was out of the box (quite literally!) Now what should be done with the priceless ancient artefact which is the mirror portal? cOvEr It iN cOnCrEtE aNd sInK iT DoWn ThE rIveR!!! I feel that they could've used it to their advantage for many things to be honest.

The maiden is behind it all... She wanted to show the people how terrifying goblins are but nobody is fully aware of it. Only those who saw goblins' true nature firsthand could comprehend how dangerous goblins are. I felt kinda sorry that the Sword maiden's PTSD is further made worse by the fact that nobody believes what she said about goblins, but I'm also pretty pissed that she's indirectly almost killed off the party from episode 7! Still, Goblin Slayer's saying that he'll slay all the goblins even in the maiden's dream was damn cool.

The high elf tsundere blush at the end was so cute!

Round 2 against the Goblin champion, this time with lot better teamwork.

With the city deeming goblins too weak to send forces after, quite smart of the sword maiden to use the death of acolyte girl to make goblins the culprit (which they didn't do) to get Goblin slayer to go after them. From the bit vague dialogue, I guess the orchestrator of the evil eye and the mirror has already been killed by this Hero girl shown in a previous episode.

Continuing off of the previous episode from the mirror that the party found, we got some fights out of it and finally killed the goblin horde I must say they have their skills more exposed

That kick from the Elf-Girl was something else it was just so random and I find it quite hilarious

The Sword Maiden is a questionable character in this story felt bad for her scarring past

When they're on the cart Goblin Slayer mentioned "Ice cream" and Elf-Girl got so guilty that she thought she wouldn't get ice cream.

The sword maiden part was something for sure, I mean, wasn't too impactful as a plot twist but it goes to show her experiences with goblins really make Slayer's existence all the more important. People downplaying goblins when they are pulling shit as they have done so constantly. It's something else, but it is good to know there's a dude out there taking care of the mess.

This. The former Hero is an example of how someone deals with after being attacked by goblins. It leaves a scar on your soul or something. Unlike the Priestess, you should not be all fine and dandy just after one mouth after witnessing what she did. Like I previously mentioned, she should have had some PTSD from entering caves or something.

Graduated High School in May of 2022. Summer vacation has finally arrived. I have once again regained the power of a new anime fan, being able to watch multiple anime episodes in a day. Time to binge-watch every single anime I can into the night until college arrives. SADGE. SUPER SADGE... College has begun as of Monday, August 30, 2022, so you won't be seeing me much around these parks. See you on weekends, I guess... School me is back. Sigh! I'll at least try for one anime a day with all this course load.

I was actually looking for this kind of post. Like I mentioned many eps ago. The author is definitely a fan of Tolkien's work.

Anyway,

I wish I was as stoic as Goblin Slayer when it comes to beautiful women. Man, if I was in his place, that Sword Maiden will be able to easily wrap me around her little finger! She's so damn hot with that long blonde hair and that sexy body to die for!

The demon cult fellas did all the murders in town and sword maiden blamed it on the goblins so that the Goblin slayer can get rid of them. Her past was also traumatic man, she defeated the demon Lord but is afraid of Goblins dam! Epic episode

The Sword Maiden confrontation made me appreciate Goblin Slayer's goblin slaying even more. It's insane how goblins aren't taken more seriously in this world for how much suffering they cause.

Don't know which High Elf moment I loved more - praising Lizardbro's bone warrior like a dog, or that tsundere blush at the end.

Came to say this. SM points out how little sense it makes, that humanity joins together with a hero to fight demons, but no one gives a crap about goblins, but no one explains why. There is no reason for it. The show makes clear, over and over again, that everyone thinks of goblins as nothing but a nuisance.

It's bonkers.

Over and over, they talk about how goblins are easy and how brand new adventurers can handle them...even though groups of new adventurers are being slaughtered by even small groups of basic level goblins right and left. Even when they're warned by the guild ladies, no one listens. More importantly, no one learns. Groups of adventurers get killed, raped, horribly disfigured and traumatized on a regular basis, and the general adventurer population doesn't even notice. It makes no sense.

Over and over we see backstory about entire villages slaughtered by goblins, and yet everyone says they're not a real problem. No one except GS makes any effort to even keep an eye out for them. It makes no sense.

Over and over we see people talk about how goblins are beneath a silver adventurer, and yet we see that high level elite goblins like Champions and Lords are a thing, and that they're more powerful than entire parties of silvers. It makes no sense.

The only explanation is that the story has a deliberate blind-spot regarding goblins over all of human society so that the plot can happen. If it had to be lore friendly, I guess it would be something that the dice-rolling gods did as part of heir game/struggle.

So same-y. Split up the party already or give the bad guy POV. Beerus was cool for destroying planets, not liking sweet things. This turned into a typical boring harem anime.
