THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

The CGI style is actually tolerable imo.

If anything else, I'm actually more interested into the science world fiction rather than the plot or characters. From the cast, some noticable characters includes Takuya. Then, there's also the Kirihara brothers who faced their own obstacles.

Might have potential but the plot needs to improve.

Another full-on CGI show, this time by Shirogumi (who did Revisions) that's based on the original 1992 Night Head, with a new story and still penned by the original writer George Ilda (that's standalone alongside Night Head Genesis).

The struggle of survival for power-bearers: the Kirihara brothers Naoto and Naoya whom have supernatural powers whom inflict hallucinations on normal humans. The Kuroki brothers Yuuya and Takuya also have their differential sentiments, but it is too soon to say anything of this intriguing piece of a show that's part of a franchise.

The older audience whom have watched Night Head (or Genesis) before have A LOT to bitch about, and for good reason. Still though, an intriguing start.

I guess an OK introductory episode. CG doesn't look bad and the VA lineup is good. The bar scene felt super cliche, but other than that, it was nothing to really take note.

Hopefully the plot gets more interesting in next episode.

another unnecessary remake, but it wasn't as bad as i expected it to be
the bar scene played out pretty much like the first series, only watered down and worse

i could complain about the cgi and naoya's wig, but i won't
not even surprised an anime based on something fifteen years old is the first decent thing i've seen all season

Scientism society with a bit of antitheism, wonder when we will get there.

The mocking jackass in the bar reminded me a lot of Bellamy. Especially the tryhard attitude even tho he's just a wuss. His fears were quite hilarious.

First episode was fine, I'd say. Kinda interested in the powers and the world.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

Ohh I'm really liking it so far! I enjoyed the world building and the introduction of the characters, definitely a solid start in comparison to Scarlet Nexus and D_Cide, which are similar in terms of the sci-fi/action premise.

Not sure what to expect from the rest of the series, given how the manga and anime adaptations of the drama seemed to have been alright at best. However, maybe 2041 will be more interesting given that there are two new main characters added to the story.

Yamada Yutaka's music though...that last scene felt so grand, gives you a feeling that a lot of things are about to unfold. The OP song was also good too, although I still think Who-ya Extended best songs are from their debut single + album. Looking forward to the OP sequence and seeing how the song will fit there, as well as the next episode in general. I think the pacing so far is perfect.

The take of this anime. Confusing plot of an anime-less world.

At least the brothers got their foreshadowed title: Useless Brothers. Both were without helmets in enemy territory, those suit must have some anti-cut propriety, and lose the bad guy.

And the white-haired brother are just cliche, with the tough-fragile dynamic.

considering the date in the name, do you think it'll be a roughly 1:1 remake?

So far it's really confusing, so I'm hoping we'll get a better grasp of what exactly is going on in the next episode.

The CGI isn't half bad, and the animation seems pretty good in my opinion.

Some stuff seems a bit cliché, but what can you expect when we're dealing with a world that seems to be anti-everything.

This was mediocre. Just a bunch of common cyberpunk cliches mixed with some gay undertones.
CGI is passable, but animation really lacks when it comes to action: way too slow and lifeless.

I'll give this show one or two more episodes before the drop, maybe it will become something.

The CG was actually quite good. I especially loved the glass and water simulation in the bar fight scene.

The costumes and character designs are also nice.

I am liking what they're doing with the story. I have never seen the original TV drama, so I don't know how faithful the story is to that. I have only seen the anime adaptation recently, and this is quite different from it. In a good way.

I am not sure why some characters were done in regular 2d style. Both 3D and 2D characters looked good, but when they were together, it felt a bit odd. Only a bit though.

With characters, I wish they would use squash-and-stretch like you'd do with 2d animations since they can't use motion blur with this style. I think it would make the characters feel more organic. (I might be wrong. Maybe, they've already tried it and it didn't work.)

If I had to complain about something, it would be that I don't like Takuya's design, and also the design of the girls. The girls are too . . . moe? Their designs don't feel like they belong in a psychological anime. Also, the girls speak in a very cute way like they are there to impress someone and not to do what they're doing. Except the woman in the bar. She was a horrible person, and I loved her!

Maybe they also introduced a bit too many names and terminologies in the first episode. That can be a bit harder to remember.

Oh, by the way, the start was funny. Normally, the psychopathic murderers are religious people, but here, people who don't believe in gods are punishing those who do. I am interested to see what they'll do with this. It can be taken in many creative directions. But, my guess is they'll do nothing.

It's a shame that the show doesn't begin with the famous lines below:
"It is said that 70% of human brain is unused; and extraordinary power originates in this region. Some people call the region --- night head."

original OP

As one of chuunibyou, I love this genre. ("Toward the Terra [manga]", "From the New World", etc.)

--- edit ---
I forgot to tell something about the future tactical mission scene. Actually, such kind of operation is existing technology. Here is an example (Palantir's Gotham).

So these guys never heard of thermite or molotovs? I mean when fighting a corrupt government would be the first goto weapon. Even dousing the place in gasoline and setting it on fire with the gov agents inside would have been better than attacking with fire weapons. With a shield (amazing how people in films never use shields) one can even use a sword to attack and would be more effective....

Also KITT is that you?

Anyone watched the old series? (Or at least the first few episodes of it?)

So this is really a remake?

Description from the old series - kids having escaped from some lab in the forest - seems to be the stuff that happened here in episode 1 at least. Not really planning to watch the old series so I'm happy if this really is a remake.a

A confusing start, I barely understood anything. But it does seem to have a scope of getting interesting slowly. The way it ended actually made me look forward to the next episode.

“Worship of Gods and Buddhas is a thought crime”
I would love to live in that world XD

But when they said creation of fictional people and stories are prohibited then anime and manga and any kind of literary things are also prohibited, now that's a shitty world.

The CGI is actually pretty good than I expected. I don't like the character design tho. If it was original then I wouldn't really care but since it's a remake, it would've been better if they stayed close to the original. Especially the Kirihara brothers, I don't like their hairstyle and hair color, they also made Naoya extra fragile looking.

The animation of their psychic abilities looks really good. That bar scene was amazing, especially the bottles breaking scene.

The OST is really good, as expected of Yutaka Yamada and the ED is amazing, Who-ya extended never disappoints.

I actually remember watching the episode 1 of the original almost a decade ago. I was a kid back then, it felt boring to me so I didn't continue. I kinda wish to finish it now but I'm lazy to watch really old stuff. I wish they followed the original in this remake instead of making it look so different.

I am another person that is enjoying this series so far. I really like the CGI and the fact that the plot line is slowly being doled out to me in a somewhat sensible fashion. I also love the sound effects of the psychic powers. I have a wonderful sub woofer and it just makes my chest vibrate when these go off.... lol. This is the first anime in a long time that made me wish that I had a bigger monitor. It is just one of those animation types that would look spectacular to me on a 40" or bigger monitor. Count me on for next week's episode!

Very bad start because all goes so fasssst, HIGH SPEEDEEEEE, so it can be a little (VERY) confussing. And I really think that was a bad introduction to the plot and characters. Shirogumi did such a great work on the animation, as always. I don't expect much from this anime, but surely I'll keep watching it every week.

Considering the staff is completely unexperienced, to see such quality of direction, consistency on modeling, shades and backgrounds and great OST are satisfying, specially during a quite meh season that we're having

Man, a blast from the past, been well over a decade since I've seen Night Head Genesis.

Kinda ironic that they prohibit the sale of anything related to fictional stories, people etc ... when we're watching a fictional story about it :D
Interesting start though, CGI doesn't bother my as much either.
