Well the thing is that I rarely use visual novels to learn Japanese. It's harder to sentence mine from visual novels compared to anime. So I just read them in English anyway. I also read visual novels in Japanese if there's nuances or wordplay in the dialogue that can't be fully expressed in English. I mainly watch anime (or Japanese media) with JP subs or read manga in Japanese.
Sure! So far, I have studied 4600 words, basic grammar, and do at least 2 hours of immersion each day. For beginner content I can understand 95% of it. As for Japanese media in general, I can understand like 50-70% of it. Unless if it goes over complex topics or unfamiliar terminology then I won't understand anything lol.
TheMoeWay is a good guide to get you started. When it comes to grammar though, I can only recommend Cure Dolly sensei. Don't use any other grammar resource (unless if they follow Cure Dollys guide). She actually explains the fundamentals of Japanese really well. Compared to textbooks or Tae Kims Guide, which don't actually make sense. (For English speakers)
Interesting. What made you raise the score that high for SubaHibi?
Nah. All in English (if they have an EN translation). If I can't find an official (or fan) translation, I will read it in Japanese. I don't spend a lot of time reading VN's in Japanese compared to English. I will say that SakuUta is one of the longer stories so it'll take you a while to finish it.
I actually enjoy the story with the tennis player and her mother. The themes prevalent in the mini arcs and overall plot weren't executed equally.
Even though I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped for, Shigofumi does not hold back on the reality of its subject material. There's also moe but it's not a big issue for me.
So I know which series I've read already.
I also see that you just finished Shigofumi! What made you enjoy it a lot? People compare it to Violent Evergarden since it revolves around letters. Though with Shigofumi, it took a different approach on afterlife message-bearers to add along with some social issues.
There's also anime that I finally found since I first started watching seasonal anime (which was around early 2010). There are still some anime that I haven't put in my list that I've watched. Mostly since I forgot the name of the show since it has been so long. I just recently found Hatsukoi Limited again. (not a good show, but the ed song still hits)
But yea, you won't always see me constantly update my list. There will be a time where I won't update it for 2 weeks.
I totally get that. I'm currently a student and working part time. Most of the time I would find avant-garde works, music videos, ova's, etc. In fact, a lot of my entries are from these types of works. (which also explains my low mean score) So it's not as time consuming compared to your normal 12 episode anime. Kentoushi and Mayumi are great examples
Good. You'll be wasting 4 hours of your time.
I wholeheartedly agree especially if you look at works such as Mononoke and Perfect Blue.
She's more adorable.
