@rodmanii Three posts in the span of three minutes... guess I was right about the contrarians being attention-seekers. You dropped Legend of the Galactic Heroes and gave it a 3. That's all that needs to be said.

Though in fairness, you did give both Macross: Do You Remember Love? and Little Witch Academia a 10, so you do have some taste at least.

@Purple_Gh0st24 oh im sorry, to you making more than one post must be something quite difficult, isnt it?. "That's all that needs to be said." yeah, what an utter piece of garbage that series was, just as stupid and nonsensical as monogatari, and a lot more pretentious

Overall, I like Monogatari but I do think it has some bad/annoying arcs. Just remember that the series is generally told out of order. Bakemonogatari is the third instalment chronologically so if you don't understand something about the plot, it may be explained in another instalment (which I think is part of the fun of watching it).

I presume many comments will have talked about the 'correct watch order', but I'm not as fussy as those people. I think you should watch the Kizumonogatari movies (which is the first instalment chronologically) which I guess could explain some things and it also doesn't have Senjougahara. In fact, she only really has two spotlight arcs after Bake (first arc of Nise, last arc of Second Season. I haven't seen the recent season though), apart from that, her appearances are fairly sporadic.

But if you can't get past Kizu, just don't bother watching the rest of it (which is not a bad thing ofc, it's just not for you).

I personally found Monogatari great from the start (and episode 12 of Bakemonogatari might be my single favorite anime episode), but it is also probably the series that I have gained the most from both in rewatches after subsequent seasons to catch some of the foreshadowing and things I missed as well as rewatches as my Japanese ability improved to better understand all of the wordplay going on. It was really high up on my list from the start but it wasn't really until the gained value from the rewatches that it became one of my top 3.

After finished binging the entire series last week, I would say it gets really good when it was either centered around Hanekawa, Kaiki and Nadeko. Kizumonogatari trilogies are notable for very distinct direction wise and Araragi's character. The main appeal of the show is mostly the funny or questionable? interactions between Araragi and the girls lol. So if you don't find that appealing then it's rather hard to stick through.

Bakemonogatari pretty much encapsulates what Monogatari Series is in general so if you didn't click with it, I doubt you will enjoy the following installments. That is, unless you find a character that's entertaining enough for you to keep going (Shinobu, Hanekawa, Kaiki, Yotsugi, etc).

Also, don't worry. I'm currently at Owari S2 and still can't understand why Senjougahara is so loved in this community. Her case kinda reminds me of Asuka from Evangelion if I'm honest.

And as for the plot, it's just a dude helping different girls that got involved in different supernatural scenarios while also growing as a person in the process.

I'll give you some advice. Don't bother asking when something "gets good", because everyone will tell you something different.

As someone who had a bit of a hard time getting into the series, if you can't get past Bakemonogatari, don't bother with the rest. Because it'll basically be the same the whole way through.

If you don't like dialog heavy things, don't like the editing, and don't think any of the characters are hot, there's nothing there for you.

Usually you have a story where a lot of ecchi is inserted, monogatari is an ecchi where a story is inserted.
It's heavily brainless ecchi and it's not gonna change if you don't like it drop it just like I did.

At episode 1.

At the Kizumonogatari trilogy is when it gets peak.

Okay, after thinking about it for a bit, I decided to give a serious reply.

Firstly, how you asked your question and where you asked it are wrong. Good is subjective, so what you're practically asking is “when did you start enjoying Monogatari?” Such a question can't give you a concrete answer, as everyone's taste is different. Someone might have disliked Bakemonogatari but enjoyed what comes next, and vice versa (though it's improbable, considering Monogatari tone is consistent throughout all its entries). And secondly, you should have asked such a question at one of Monogatari entries, preferably the last one to date, as people who watched the entire series will mostly be the ones responding to you. Where in Anime Discussion, this will also prop up the interest of haters who might not have watched a single episode (and there is the fact it's against the rules here).

Now back to the discussion. I will say most Monogatari fans enjoyed Bakemonogatari and fell in love with the series at the latter installments; after all, if someone didn't enjoy the first installment, they likely won't continue it. If you didn't enjoy Monogatari it's perfectly valid; not everyone has to enjoy it, and every series will have people who don't like it. Especially in Monogatari case, where the sexual scenes, the heavy dialogue, and the visuals have been used as both a praise and a critic to Monogatari.

Regarding your enjoyment of the series, if you didn't enjoy Bakemonogatari, I will recommend you drop it; as said earlier, Monogatari tone is consistent throughout all its entries. That is, unless you think the reasons you didn't enjoy it are due to your confusion of the events in the series or your irregularity with the series style. That is something I am familiar with, as it was definitely a hindrance to me in Bakemonogatari (though in my case I still enjoyed it), and the only way it can be subsided is by continuing to watch Monogatari.

The Monogatari series was great starting from the very first episode onwards. Bakemonogatari is phenomenal. You'd have to be an edgy, attention-seeking contrarian to claim otherwise.
@Purple_Gh0st24 “Edgy and attention seeking is when people don’t like my lame favourite show.” Nice buzzwords there, I knew you guys weren’t bright.

About episode 1.

Okay it takes a while to get to the peak, for me that's probably when Mousou Express kicks off. But if you're not engaged by the first episode, it probably isn't for you.

Bakemonogatari kinda sucks, because it doesn't have that much fanservice. Nisemonogatari is when it gets good.

if it just doesn't click with you by the time you get to nisemonogatari i suggest you just avoid it and its community entirely, especially the community; they'll touch you in ways you've never thought possible

@LeonhartAugust This is the second lame reply to that joke. Had you read the thread, you'd have seen the joke was a reverse of what @FudiFudi had said.

Bakemonogatari mid, the rest of the show peak. You've done the hard part now discard that trash, literally on the doorstep to glory.

Huh, I actually like Bake the most out of all the seasons. I think if it does not click with someone immediately then it's probably not for them. What you see is what you get.

Monogatari overall is really heavy in dialogue, Bakemonogatari in particular is somewhat over the place and disordered and you can't tell where the story is going till Nisemonogatari.

Now, in my opinion, Tsubasa Cat was the arc that made me want to complete it. The series has a lot of ups and downs in quality. Overall good though even if I found the fanservice to be quite distasteful, fortunately, from Owarimonogatari onwards the fanservice goes down significantly, and by Zoku Owarimonogatari it's almost nonexistant.

Ah also get away from the fandom for obvious reasons.

As far as I'm concerned, right from Episode 1 of Bakemonogatari, and Senjougahara's pleading to the crab god has convinced me that this is a special series.

I've just watched 4 chapters and I don't understand anything. Chapter 3 and 4 are just a nonsense. Would I understand something if I keep watching it? I'm planning on dropping it here if it's always like that
